Prepare for a hands-down, stellar review!I was recently introduced to Ray Lam and Silk Road Solar by way of a referral from Puget Sound Solar here in Seattle. The ten-year old Velux solar hot water system on our carriage house was leaking; given the age, I assumed the hot water tank was ready to fail. Ray engaged with me patiently first by phone (aided by text photos) regarding possible fixes. We decided to replacing our rather antiquated tank (with built-in backup electric heating elements) with a less-expensive, straight solar hot water tank, but coupled with an on-demand electric mini-tank water heater for those colder, cloudy days in the Pacific Northwest. He was quite happy to allow me to order the separate mini-tank unit separately, without any markup. We then scheduling a pre-installation meeting onsite to confirm our plans going forward. It was at this meeting just yesterday that Ray discovered our hot water tank wasnt leaking at all--it was just a loose fitting on top that allowed water to stream down the side, and making it appear that the bottom of the tank was rusted through and on the verge of failure. Ray proceeded to fix the leaking connection on the spot, then waited with me over a cup of coffee (and wonderfully enlightened conversation) to see if any more water appeared. One day later our solar hot water tank is still perfectly dry. Ray Lam walked away from a $2,000+ repair/upgrade estimate--and refused to take any compensation whatsoever (other than that cup of coffee)! Instead, he left a loyal future customer and reference. I am completely sold on this brilliant, honest, vivacious gentleman, and will go nowhere else to maintain our solar system, as well as eventually expanding solar to our main house. I urge you to do the same!
