I live here and people are nice to your face. Was supposed to help me with food stamps and other thingsBeen waiting for a long time because I cant eat the food here because I have stomach issues and they dont do special diets . So I had to go to the food stamp office myself and now I will be able to get the help I have needed. Guess what Im saying is that you cant rely on any one other than your self to get what you need in life!
Hello, my name is Shannon. Ive been calling for the past year to get help with shelter. Ive been able to hold things down until I had surgery. I just need a place to go for my family and I and would really love if someone answers back before my family and I are thrown out on the streets. Im really starting to break down because I dont know what else to do and I dont have family thats willing to help out even though I have kids so I dont have family that I call family. We are out here alone. Please respond back.
It was a great program but people need longer than two weeks and more staff that care and actually go and help people everyday till we all get the help we need not being able to do the things they say they can do so I dont find a place and only got help twice in tree weeks then the boot but.... Definitely longer stay and alot more one on one help like every day so people can actually succeed in their goals..... Like I couldnt find a place and oviesly couldnt do what they said they can do so I needed help but got none
I volunteered to serve lunch on Christmas day. I truly enjoyed giving back. I met two of the chefs. The food smelled marvelous and was presented beautifully! The kitchen was clean. The process was well planned and staffed. If you have a weekend or week day free, go serve your neighbors! You will not regret the experience
Restart shelter does wonderful work when I first came here to Kansas city Missouri I was at the mens shelter on 9th which was a joke and a waste of time someone tolde about restart I called every day for about a week and a half finally got in mety case manager chance the second day I was there mr.chance had already started finding me permanent housing he brought me a application I filled it out he turned it in kept corresponding with the high rise in a month I had permanent housing if u can get in restart I strongly suggest so and if u r very lucky maybe u will get me.chance as your case manager
This place couldnt even help me those bumble bees are rude i see landscapers do there job but see the supervisor sleeping or talking on the phone in the truck
Obey the rules and regulations and itll be smooth sailing. Dont talk about others. Keep it to yourself. Handle your business and move on. Its a shelter. Not the Marriott. I was there 1year and a half ago. I thank them. Ive been housed for the last year and a half and doing great.
If you like being treated like your worthless. Come here. Its dirty the staff is mean as can be. Def dont see many people getting put in to housing either its sad...
ReStart is a fantastic non-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering people who are facing or experiencing homelessness. I commend reStart and its team for the great work they do and support them in their efforts to help those in need and improve the community as a whole.
They had a recent bed bug infestation this place is really bad
They wouldnt let me use the phone
Something like family really good help an all ways there if needed
My favorite place to donate clothes and toys...
They are taking great care of my granddaughter
It is a great place for help.
The most wonderful and helpful staff thatll do anything to help no matter what it takes! Theyre LGBTQ friendly and recognize transgender women as the women we are! Thanks to everyone at ReStart and all the people who donate to keep it so nice!
Great place
Its a transitional living facility helps people get back on their feet in life.anyone that helps people get their life together is a step in the right area of human needs in these days and times.
Organization was clean and hospitable. Very accepting of volunteers and had a very goal oriented team to work with. Great volunteer opportunity.
The work this place does is amazing. The only outreach in the city that services LGBTQ homeless and they allow teenage boys to stay with their families instead of separating them.
The day after giving birth I checked in this place with my newborn and 2 other children. As I was doing my intake the director, Donnie, heard my maiden last name and to my relief he announced that we were related. I had just moved to the state. I didnt know anyone or had any other family there outside of my husband and our 3 children. When we finally made it to our room there were huge roaches everywhere. Still, we decided to stay until we could do better. For dinner they fed us red roses, and baked chicken. I had no idea that roses could be eaten. Because food was limited we were only allowed 1 piece of chicken each which meant that I was stuck eating roses so that my children who were 2yrs old and 3yrs old could eat. Still, I didnt complain. I was just happy to get out of the heat and rest. When my husband finally arrived after work he had bought our things to our room, took a shower, and climbed in bed. I got up to kiss my children goodnight before I could even turn the lights off bedbugs were crawling on our children and husband as they slept!!! We left that night forced to leave all of our babys pampers, kids toys, blankets, and most of our clothes behind. All that bedbugs didnt attack the roaches did. Thousands of roaches had gotten into our babys bag that fast. I didnt understand why because I had no formula or food. My children were all breastfed. We rushed our kids to the E.R. to have them inspected for bugs. Thankfully, everything was alright. I reached out to Donnie to see if some of our things could be salvaged from the bugs but he treated me as though I was asking for a hand out. He treated me as if I was a bomb. Im no bomb! To make matters worst, because my maiden name is so popular in Kansas I couldnt get help from anywhere. So, there I was with a business degree and my husband a CDL Driver lost in the middle of Kansas. I didnt plan to change my last made until I had finished my Engineering degree (I wanted to made my Daddy proud). Instead, I was forced to change my last name just to even be considered for an apartment in Kansas. I lived in Kansas for 4yrs not even knowing who my family was. Still, I was screwed out of almost everything that I applied for because of them.
Have had friends get help from them and they were very pleased with the out come.
I didnt get to really work with anyone so I cannot give an accurate review
A great place for those who truly want t a new beginning if a person is willing to put in the work and stay deadecateted to the program they can help put a life back together good people there lots of resources at there despot but a person has to be serious for it to work but by the grace of GOD they can and do help humanity
They are still available to take in more people that are homeless and they will also be happy to try to help you with anything you need help with
This is an organization wherein I like donating clothes, household items and other things that people may need who are trying to get back on their feet. This place helps the homeless find a new start in life. It would be nice if everyone could give to this organization and not just during the holiday season.
Honestly Im glad this place took me in Ive had fun here with staff and the pople and I love it here I have no bad restart is not a bad place they have good services and good people
It a great place to stay at I have two friends that stay there its wonderful place when youre trying to get back on your feet they help you with a lot of things in a lot of resources I get it a 5-star rating great scythe great people great place to stay when you need to get back on your feet again check them out on the web page thanks Kansas City
Its a great place to be if you need to get a restart in your life this will be the place
Good for those in need of a home for family and females they mainly focus on family and people mostly in need. its always filled.
A good organization. They are helping people in need. They are doing a good thing for the community. I donated some clothing items for the Homeless.
The organization really helps veterans and civilians with children.
Alot of resources and assistance... But there is alot of confusion about when and where you need to be. Staff is assistable and helpful though
Place saved my life in 1998. Great support services.
We donate to the facility once a week.
Great work they just dont awnser the phone.
Provides private room for Veterans homeless program. Also pays application fee, security deposit and up to three months rent to assist veteran to move in a apartment or a house. Has warehouse to provide veterans with free furniture appliances and dishes, pots and pans as well as linen.
Normally I wouldnt write a review but this time I feel it was necessary. I called to see about emergency shelter and was placed on hold for about 15 minutes. The call was then disconnected. When I called back I was sent to the general voice mailbox. On my third call I wasnt greeted properly. The operator answered and said we dont have any beds available. So thats lets me know that the this person seen the number I was calling from and first of all hung up the phone when I was on hold. Then choose not to answer me the second time. Thirdly felt I wasnt worthly to be greeted or spoken to respectfully. Very unprofessional and unsympathetic. Just because people need help doesnt mean they should be treated poorly.
Its very helpful it offers shelter for the homeless feeds the hungry also theres a youth program there that shelters our lost youths they have GRATE guidance counselors. Its an all around GRATE place to receive the help you may need and if they cant help you trust me they will point t you to the right place that can help you.!!!! my name is William RHODES and I approve this message.
The place got me on my feet in a timely manner, its a bit scary at times regarding the safety here, but Im eternally grateful for the support Ive managed to get.
I have not had the chance to experience the good things about restart. I have been trying to get in there for three and they are always full. Today I called them and tried to ask them some questions and the man I talked to hung up Im my face.
Not the best shelter out there. Some of the staff are rude or treat the clients as lessers. The staff that are the good ones are overworked or have gone to get better jobs. However, from what i heard, its the best shelter in Kansas City, which makes me sad.
Best option for a homeless shelter. 3 hot meals and plenty of resources. The staff can be overwhelmed, make sure to know your case worker and their schedule. Appointments could be difficult without planning.
Called to inquire about services. The lady that answered the phone was rude in simply said “we don’t have availability” and hung up
This is a public shelter. This is a great place to regroup and build a good life.
Hardworking, dedicated Staff that shows compassion for their job and what they do. Always very friendly and helpful.
I stayed here for many years and this place is a great place to become responsible and they also give you the tools you need to excel in society good work to all the people that work here even the one that didnt like me.
It is a great place to get back on your feet. They supply you with everything you need for a fresh start.
TO ALL LANDLORDS- the program is not so great as a landlord! I had a one year contract with this program for a tenant and EVERY month the payment was extremely late. It was always an excuse on why the payment would be a month late and sometimes even 2 months late and they dont want to pay late fees. The communication is even horrible. I would have to email every month to inquire about my payment! Overall, this was not a good experience with this program for me as a Landlord as they dont pay on time nor even consider late fees.
Amazing Shelter will provide you with tools and help to make this a stepping stone in your life and not your final destination.
They help you get back on your feet they have many resources like computer lab job fairs that comes there every week they help with getting you clothes for work or shoes hygiene products and many more there the best
Our family was at Restart in 2015. They helped us to the best of their abilities. The staff we dealt with were nice and professional.
My family and I are homeless and everytime we call them they just give us a runaround and dont even try to help.
This is a great place for people who are down on their luck on the verge of being homeless or actually homeless. They have a great program to get you started and back on your feet
It would be better but I had gone in to take a test for help since Im homeless and have been for some time. They havent followed up or thru since then and I have health and mental medical concerns.... Ive been brushed off like most other places seem to do and it takes me alot to even ask for any kind of help.
Its a good place if you need a place to stay in order to get back on your feet emotional and financially stable enough to get back out on your own.
A great pace to go when life throws you a huge curve ball. Great staff they know you are going through a hard time and want to help!
This is a great place to receive help if you need emergency housing as an adult with or without children!
This place has great resources and help for those who need it. Its a great clean place to transition.
The BEST organization to help people get a RESTART back into society.
I have the most wonderful case worker I have ever had. her name is Christy. they are helping me with housing assisting me with all of my social programs like SSI Medicaid Social Security but most importantly with my immediate needs being met
Havent checked it out yet. Review should be done by the end of the week.
Grate place to get help if youre homeless, hungry or in need of help with your bills and the staff is wonderful from maintenance personel to the director.
Great service offered for runaway and homeless teens.
Just another good social services help source here in Kansas City.
Never knew about this place! What a great place for people to get their lives back on track.
Great organization doing great things for people.
A think of it as purgatory, just steps away from Dantes inferno and the layers of hellish treatment by liars, besmearchers, thieves... And dont get me started of the lack of professionalism if the staff. Okay, this one anecdote, a black male worker left the dining area before the meal, used the restrooms the either flatulence or having had a b.m. in gloves then opened the door to serve us, ate in those gloves as the 1 person signed tbeir name before dishibg up food for her... Even those of questionable intellectual abilities started yelling until he was removed from the serving line only to reappear five or so minutes later... Oooh! Yuck!
Their customer service in back of building sucks, but in the dining room customer service is awesome.
I called to get information about shelter and I am 55 years old and single just need a leg up. The person on the phone was rude and said theyre full didnt even answer my questions. If theres are bugs there they need to be getting a bug man there. Thats a health issue.
This place is infested with Bedbugs, tons of mice that may carry the deadly disease hantavirus. The staff tolerates gang violence, prostitution, drug infestation and their food and food service are terrible. They throw good people out into the streets for no reason. I am a homeless Veteran and they threw me out for nothing. They are plagued with roaches, and Rats as well.Across the street from their entrance, you can buy any drugs you want. From the residents of all things.Other than that they are a decent resource for very temporary transitional housing. They make money off of their residents and can offer very little for long term homeless issues. Their staff is unfriendly. They allow homosexuals to live and have sexual relations in their morgue building. They do not allow heterosexual couples to share quarters and they seem driven to drive a wedge between couples, rather than help them. They seek to find relationship issues and then exploit them. Evicting one of the pair and victimizing and not enabling the other I think clearly with their promises of helping them. They have torn my GF and I apart by separating us. Over a long term, usually a few weeks, the pair separate and Restart,Inc jumps in to save the day. Do not come here unless you want to be institutionalized.Thank you,TFT
Over the past 20 years Ive witnessed the improvements at ReStart and the services they provide to the homeless in our community, including teens forced from their homes. Thank you for all you do to make our community a better place to live.
They will help you get back on your feet
Loved it
They really try to help people. Its one of the few places I feel confident donating to.
Great staff and safe refuge.
Its ok place, they there to help homeless individuals. If you need help just ask and hopefully they can help.
Nice friendly place and people.
Some of the staff were very cruel. I am glad to have gotten out of there
Too much bad things to say concerning them... Over long list of very bad issues that they have... ... ...
They do good work here. Just came to drop off some Christmas presents for the homeless.
Love this place, love the organization...
Wish they would move to Overland Park so these people could get real help. They just burden KC here.
This place is rude they have rats and roaches do not go there i will rather be homeless then go there. This place is stupid why did they even make this place? it was just a waist of their time. They barley even help you they just throw you in a home that is nasty just like this place.
Some staff are very lazy and give you the run around
I heard of this place and someone told me they had bed bugs, the lady when I called was quickly dismissive and wouldnt listen, just tell her part to call Monday and hung up, I called back and she seemed annoyed smh, only reason its not 1 star is cause it may help people out
Raggedy as hell
Dont expect help here... If you have legitimate issues, theyll find a way not to help you. If youre a drug addict, youll get more help than if you just need a hand up. They are liars and criminals - I have proof.
Restart handing out food and water across from my husbands Masonic Lodge
Good people doing wonderful work.
Be safe if you go.
Would like to see records department to get my sons requested information to he and I asap even if it was ten years ago
Its nice
A Great place to volunteer .
Good luck!
