To all who read this I would love to shout out how thrilled we are with our experience with Borgess. We can not thank everyone from housekeeping, cafeteria workers, to all the nurses specially on the 3rd floor and The covid ICU, and all of the Doctors with a special shout-out to Dr. Hooks who was straight up and honest with us and helped us more then I’am sure he knows. To all the others who helped my mom’s surgery take place when things looked hopeless and all the care afterwards. Dr. Kotaru who did the amazing surgery and the kind words before and after, we will never be able to thank you enough. This hospital and the employees went above and beyond with everything. There was kindness in everyone we met there. To the Ascension Borgess Medical Center we thank you all more then you will ever know. They never treated my mom like a patient, they treated her like family and I can never thank them enough.

Unbelievable experience. I am not sure what’s going on with some of the staff over there but they need to really consider looking deeply into how patients are being treated! Yesterday, I had a nurse snatch my mask off my face, while I waking up, in the recovery room. She took it and laid threw it on top of my body. I then replied “Excuse me, I am awake and can you please go and get me another mask”. She then laughed and said “Oh yeah, I can get you another one.” In about 3-4 minutes, she returned with a new mask, then asked me if I needed anything else. In the era of Covid and the Delta variant that has so many hospitals (including Borgess) either at capacity or near, and with some people losing their lives, I don’t find that funny or ethical! She obviously doesn’t take her position seriously and/or believes she is invincible to reprimanding, termination or legal pursuit if a patient becomes ill because of her cold hearted behavior! She is wrong - Completely!

My dad fell and broke his hip on Monday. Bronson was full so the ambulance was diverted to Borgess. Borgess is not allowing visitors right now due to Covid. My dad had surgery on Tuesday and was discharged on Thursday. There was no communication between the hospital and our family, even after my mom called and specifically told the nurse she wanted to be part of the conversation relating to my dads discharge. My dad was not offered a chance to bathe or be bathed in the 60+ hours he spent at Borgess. He was not provided with a toothbrush. He was given food late on Tuesday but no utensils. He waited 45 minutes for a plastic fork and by then his food & coffee were cold.He fell again at home today (Friday) and thank God Bronson is accepting patients again. He should not have been sent home from Borgess until he is strong enough to stand up from a seated position. If Borgess wont allow family to visit then we need to be able to trust that you will provide basic human care and dignity to our loved ones. Borgess did not do this. Im not the type of person to air dirty laundry online but no one from Borgess is answering my calls or returning my message. Maybe this will be seen by someone who has the authority to make positive changes in patient care.

I have been hung up on just for asking about my mother. It is currently 07/29/2021 and considering my mother has a long term condition on top of COVID I expected the hospital staff to at least be a little helpful or act with integrity, instead they have conducted themselves in a ill manner, hung up telephone consistently (without being disrespected or cursed at). Unfortunately, I am willing to sue at all cost and demand reparations on behalf of the horrible work conduct exemplified at this hospital.

Multiple issues with bills from borgess. I only saw providers here for about a year and a half and have had many different times Ive had to call and get things worked out because things were billed incorrectly.Still waiting for a bill from last year to be fixed and it was sent to collections even though I went back and forth calling borgess billing and my old insurance company trying to figure out what went wrong. Now waiting for them to re-bill and reprocess this bill to the right part of my insurance.I always went to bronson and switched back there over the summer and Ive never had any billing issues with them ever. HORRIBLE experience! My husband was recently at Borgess for an ER visit. Anytime we go to the ER we expect a ridiculous amount of waiting, but this time took the cake. After giving my husband a liter of IV fluids and him repeatedly pushing the call button for FORTY FIVE minutes, he finally had to pound on the glass doors in order to get anyone to check on him! Amazingly enough, 3 nurses came within about 3 seconds. Unacceptable treatment!

So far a nurse gave me a neck brace, and put it on so lose it was useless. I had to fix it myself. And ive done nothing but sit in a lobby in a wheelchair and neck brace for 2 hours.Update: they gave me a ct scan. Made me wait another hour. Then tried to discharge me without going over any results or conducting x rays

DO NOT SEEK MENTAL HEALTH HELP HERE.Ascension hospitals are not equipped to take care of mental health patients. My family member was kept in a room with no widows or clock and not allowed to see the light of day for 5 DAYS! This entire time they were not allowed to see anyone the knew.To top it off they lost their personal belongings including items family members brought, that they never received from staff.A complaint was filed with Ascension and of course corporate says none of it is there fault. This is standard practice of the Ascension hospital system. They take 0 responsibility for the care they give there patients. If you need mental health help please look else where. You will not get better at Ascension

Covid restrictions were lifted at this time as it was in July. Came in with a huge dental abscess covering the roof of my mouth, in tremendous pain. Check in was chaos with the two women interrupting each other and being borderline snippy. Girl who did my vitals didn’t seem to know she was at work. Very nice but didn’t seem to know what was going on. Went back to a room and the room I was assigned to was missing a bed. So had to wait for room to be switched. There was literally NOBODY else in the whole area. Two doctors came in and said they were going to change my antibiotics. I asked if the abscess could be drained and I was told they don’t do that and I’d need to go to a dentist. I told them I’m trying but it takes time since I don’t have a regular dentist. So they say just give the antibiotics time and keep taking Tylenol and ibuprofen. Then they said they weren’t changing anything at all and discharged me. It’s been 2 days and I can’t eat anything at all, can barely drink, it’s grown a ton and another abscess has come up. Wasted my time.

I dont know if Ascension monitors their google reviews or not, I hope they do because this is correctable. My family and I have received decent care from Borgess and their specialists over the years, I have no issues there. However, their billing system and processes are abysmal and continue to be. First off, they do not share insurance profiles for patients between Borgess Hospital, and Medical Group, and instead opt to assign patient information by location instead with no shared central database. I have received numerous bills from the Hospital that did not go through insurance and created a massive headache before I realized what was happening. Then, after realizing it, I tried to submit my Insurance to the billing department.... I have now had to resubmit my insurance information 4 times now in the last 6 months and when I asked if there was any way to verify that my account would stay current and show that my insurance would be pulled for future bills against my account I was told that everything was approached by a case-by-case basis and that there was no way to ensure this would not continue to happen. This is difficult as my last two hospital bills were from urgent care visits where exam results had to be interpreted offsite and I had no idea until the outsourced secondary bills showed up. This is not an industry standard issue from my experience, this is a Borgess Ascension issue. This should be correctible. If the time is spent employing decent medical professionals, then the time should be spent as well establishing efficient patient systems to support those staff. I have now since decided to cancel different services from being performed at Borgess and instead used different healthcare providers due to this continued issue and not wanting to deal with a lack of transparency in their billing, which is a shame. How many people just pay bills under the assumption that their previous visits are translating to current insurance profiles. Please fix this Ascension, I know you have the resources to do so. Or if you wont then pay someone else to handle your billing for you.

They were very kind, reassuring, and gentle with our broken up bodies. They explained everything they were doing, even though there was a lot going on. The staff kept my husband and I updated on each others conditions every few minutes, and let us see each other once we were stabilized, and ready to be admitted for overnight observation.Once in observation, the nurses and support staff were amazing. Thank you so much, Stanley, Katy, Tae, and so many others, for making one of the worst nights of my life bearable. Not only was their nursing care absolutely on point, they listened to me, dressed and helped to clean wounds. They really cared about my personal well being, as well as physical well being. Honestly, so did the trauma docs that came by to check on me. There wasnt a single person that was rude or unpleasant, and even though they were busy, they took a little time with me to listen. The staff at Borgess helped my husband and I on one of the darkest nights, literally and figuratively, of our lives. Sorry, but ERs arent built for toothaches, theyre built for trauma, and this ER worked like a well-oiled machine.

With a great deal of understanding to the workload that the women and men of healthcare are doing under these pandemic conditions, I must say I am incredibly disappointed with my experience trying to get up to see my father post surgery. I was allowed up before surgery and tried to see my father after surgery and repeatedly had my phone call hung up on. I’m aware of the restrictions to end of life and critical care, however my father has dementia and has had a major procedure done. I’d like to believe that I was not intentionally hung up on, but I don’t think that’s what happened. Healthcare workers are under incredible stress right now, but that should not be directed towards the ppl they are claiming to help. As a veteran, I had many many stressful and dangerous days- that did not clear me to violate my oath or treat locals disrespect. Very disappointing.

As a local I seem to notice people here are pretty evenly divided as to which hospital they like to go to. Borgess or Bronson. Despite being taken to Bronson for most everything as a child here. As an adult I choose Borgess every time. I were recently hit head on by a drunk driver and was taken by ambulance to Borgess. The driver was on a gurney and I was slowly walking behind clutching my injured back. I was all the way to the ER backroom desks before I ASKED for a wheelchair. No one offered. Despite this I was brought a chair and taken immediately to a temporary room. From here on out the staff was amazing. Most everyone had an excellent bedside manner and my attending nurse Val was fantastic. The doctors and nurses kept me in the loop as they checked me and thankfully there were no signs of major injuries. In about 3 hours they had us totally checked out and released even offering to arrange a ride home for us which proved unnecessary but welcomed. Thank you to the ER team at Borgess and thank you Val!

Unfortunately I have witnessed close at hand the downhill slide of the level of care the nurses are able to provide, Ascension acquiring what used to be a 4 star hospital has made poorly calculated moves, not based on excellent patient care but what appears to be profit driven at the expense of wellness. Advocacy is needed for your loved ones, RNs need time to do their jobs well, not be so spread thin that morale trickles down to the ill that wish they were well enough to go home And yet long for better care to get them there.

That is ridiculous. All your desks are not identified to know where to go. Why is the desk where the you finally end up not marked as outpt surgery?? Not even a paper sign. Many people already have high anxiety going to a hospital and this process makes it worse. I was a visitor waiting and had to help multiple pts that were just as lost trying to figure this process out. The whole day I heard people at the desks having to redirect people. They have to be tired of that! Make that process easier. Been to many hospitals and Never been to a hospital so unorganized in this way.

I have had good & bad experiences with Borgess but mostly bad. Even with past bad experiences I have stuck with them due to being the easiest one in terms of location. I am transferring all of my services elsewhere from now on. This most recent visit was eye opening to how bad they really can be. I was admitted for surgery on my colon. The nurse had no idea I was even having surgery & said that I was there for possible appendicitis. The doctor ordered tests & fluids to prep me for surgery and make sure I was okay for it. I was extremely dehydrated. I was there 4 hours or more before surgery & the whole time I saw the nurse once and never received the tests or fluids that had been ordered. Get down to surgery and the surgeon realizes that none of the orders had been done. They take a pregnancy test and continue with the surgery. I was not given any blood tests until after the surgery. I was scared to continue without it but they insisted. This is totally not the first nightmare experience I’ve had but the most recent. The surgeons were fantastic and a few nurses but other than that it was a very bad experience.

The NP asked if I had any concerns or questions, and asked how I was progressing after an in-person visit on 2/27/20 when PT was prescribed- again, a THREE MINUTE PHONE CALL. I just today, 7/20/20, recd a BILL for $220 dollars for that phone 3 minute phone call, which my insurer has determined they will NOT COVER, I can only presume because they too think that $220 for a phone call is outrageous. I also have no idea if in fact my insurer would have paid for a telemedicine visit. I get NO satisfaction from Borgess when I ask for clarity, except to be turfed to some other organization that manages billing. I find this absolutely appalling, and I have to wonder if charging this amount for follow-up isnt price gouging. Who at BORGESS is actually making these kinds of decisions? With out them id give it no stars at all. Please try a dif hospital so many things went wrong if be typing for 30 min or more. But for sure there is an RN named courtney who was the most uncompassionate and uncaring RN ever. She litterally said to me when I was in terrible pain you can lay there for 30 min but then we need the bed for someone else because i was supposed to be discharged but had been throwing up all morning and then became dyhydrated and then the pain meds i was on wore off because the last dose they gave me was pill form and i ended up throwing them up. Then the doctor came in and said im staying another night because i was in terrible shape and it took them 2 hours at least after the doctor put the order in for an IV and more meds for them to get me hooked up.. meanwhile i am in so much pain and courtney comes in and looks at me and says whats going on? My response was i am in pain!!!! No urgency on getting a patient help to get them to feel better no compassion from her at all.. the next day thank god we got an extremely nice nurse named kim. Please dont go here and if you do make sure you dont end up on the 4th floor.. if you get a courtney for a nurse ask to be moved .. like i said some of the staff we delt with were absolutely amazing. Breathing was even back under control by this time.I told them I didnt want to be treated if they were going to put me in the cover 19 ward. They o no we just put you were they tell us.Sure enough they take me rigjt back to that part of er. As going down hall was they are venting a patient. I said no im not staying here I told you that.So i spent the next hour being exsposed to virus trying to get discharge papers.Tjry say well the room been srub down etc. As the door is open and closed 10 time.So now i have to live fear of getting virus after spending almost 5 months in isolation.

Ascension Borgess HospitalWhy is the 4th floor so ridiculous? Sister went through major surgery was left in the Chair the following day from 10am till 10:30pm, as if Blood Clots are uncommon??? Then last night nurse refused to give her, her prescribed pain meds...Family is stuck out of state due to Lockdown. For a Christian claimed Hospital we can only pray for someone to show compassion.

The Doctors and staff have been wonderful to my Mother. She was sent home by Niles hospital and 10 days later had her 2nd heart attack and Borgess got everything addressed and she is on the road to recovery. The Critical Care unit and staff were top notch. The nurse Lindsey went above and beyond. Thank You!

I would recommend no one to go there! It has really gone down hill since I was there 2 years ago.Supposedly close to having a heart attack and never seen a cardiologist. Seen the hospitalist whom I couldn’t understand a few minutes a day. Couldn’t get a shower, wash cloth toothbrush or toothpaste, nothing! Never even got my bed straightened up.Less than 5 minutes before I left was told only by R N I had appt’mt with a surgeon? for what I said?My husband had 2 open heart surgeries there, numerous stents, myself 1 stent, hospitalized different times and I couldn’t believe how bad it is now, I’ll never go back!

I should of never been put to a room with a person that has Intestinal problem, I have a heart issue, and have a pacemaker surgery, was supposed to have a private room, every time I try to sleep she would wake me by hitting the bed to wake me, would leave television on all night and day, would drop phone call the nurse, at least 2/or more times a day would have someone come in to clean her bed, the smell was terrible, I will never recommend, This hospital, the nurses Were great, very Concerned about my well-being I refused To stay any longer, finally they found me another room, after midnight, I feel that this hospital should take care of the patients, that has serious problems that need urgent care, like heart problems, All they want is to make sure they get paid and not about the patients

I wish thumbs down was an option for my experience at Ascension Borgess Hospital surgical unit ! My mother had a out patient surgery we were placed in the worst waiting room I have ever been in !! One window and 40 people crammed in what was once 2 maybe 3 patient rooms! Families just sitting on top of people! Then if your loved one has to stay over night the family gets to see them as soon as they go to there room! If your loved one is outpatient you don’t get updates regularly you get a lit up board to tell you where they are but are not allowed to see your loved one till they are ready to go home! Your asked if your a big family to go to the atrium and sit but have no way of knowing where your loved one is until they call you! Oh but there is no cell service here so you wouldn’t know anything anyways! I would honestly never even come here not even to die! They don’t give a damn about family’s who are worried sick about there family member and just want to see them! But a catholic hospital and they don’t care about family or people??? You can see them when they push them out the front door!! The staff were friendly that’s the only thing I will give Borgess!!! Other than that I will push my family to get to Bronson and there doctors and facilities from now on!!!!After speaking with my mother I am even more concerned with how this surgical unit was ran! My mother was rushed out of PACU way to early following her surgery !! She even told us that she was asked to go to the chair and out of the bed! She stated no she was tired and nauseous!! When she got up to use the bathroom and came out she stated the bed was gone and she was then placed in a chair till she was wheeled to the door!! This facility which is catholic and supposed to care for there patients and families doesn’t care! Seems like it’s all about the money!!!I am beyond disappointed in how this facility and experience was ran! My mother and family will not be coming back to Borgess!!The only good experience was the staff! Yo them thank you!

If I could give a negative number I would! Twice I have had surgery at this place and both times barley received the care I needed both times. I’m not exaggerating even a little. The first time they let me sit in a hospital room that the sewer backed up into for over 10 hours before moving me. I even asked to just be put in the hallway because of the smell and they refused. I have pictures and video to prove it. The so called staff is lazy, incompetent and unpleasant. I will never come here again.

The Nurses and doctors in the CI8 Critical Care unit are amazing and filled with compassion!! My grandmother was in there unit about a month ago. They were always willing to answer any questions we had never got irritated when i called 5 times a day. They did everything they could to help my grandma unfortunately she didnt make it, it was her time to go but they did everything in there power to make sure she was comfortable and taken care of. If it wasnt for the CI8 team my grandma wouldnt have made it as long as she did. Thank you CI8 for everything from me and my whole family.

If I could rate this hospital 0 I would the staff are very rude and obnoxious. My grandmother is staying with her husband because he has heart problems. And I keep hearing that the staff and the nurses are being rude to my grandma. They told her to walk to the lobby and sleep. She can barely walk and the nurses knew that but wont leave her alone about sleeping with my grandpa. And they classify this hospital a Christian hospital. Thats really sad. I might know the owners are Christians but the nurses are just obnoxious.

Horrible experience for me at Borgess. While I was hooked up to an IV, I wasn’t being monitored and filled up with so much liquid it caused me to go into heart failure. They quickly transferred me to the heart floor, where your room feels more like a jail. The door has a little window at the top to look through. 1 shower area for all to share! Never again will I go there!!!! The doctor came in and told me they caused my heart failure! I recorded the Dr. telling me this!! Don’t trust them with your life or someone you love!!

Worst hospital my dad could have been sent to. This hospital is so money hungry. We have been trying to get my dad transferred to a different hospital for a week they keep giving us the run around. We made sure through Medicaid and the other hospital that everything would be covered and borgess keeps telling us that they need money to transfer him. I highly recommend if you have to go to this place... DONT.

I went in to the emergency room, and when I was seen by someone they didn’t seem to know what they were doing, had me wash my own injury out in a sink (that was busted) with saline solution then after disappearing for 10 minutes, put a bandaid on it and said to come back if it got worse.Well next day I have a huge infection so I return where I am promptly admitted and told I need surgery. I was told that I should have been admitted the first time (okay? You guys are the ones who didn’t admit me) sure fine. I’m told tomorrow, I get the surgery, great. I’m told I’ll be dischargedBut then another doctor tells me I needed to be held until some cultures came back which would be ready the next day, but I have to stay 2 extra days because the doctor won’t be here to look at them. So now I’m irritated I have to be here longer just because someone has the day off. Finally I get the all clear to leave after five days, I spoke with the doctor they said A-okay. I’m waiting on my discharge, for probably over an hour so I finally ask and then I’m told I’m not being discharged until TOMORROW. When I tell this new doctor that the infections specialist doc (who’s in charge of my care) Just told me I can leave he gets an attitude with me, so I tell them no I’m leaving. Because apparently the doctor I spoke with HAD LEFT FOR THE DAY. Which then he tells me is a refusal of care. It’s not a refusal of care if I was told I could go by the person in charge of my discharge, it is total incompetence on your part to not have the person in charge actually update my chart. Then months later I get a bill telling me my insurance refused to pay due to a “refusal of Care” which isn’t true because I called my insurance company and Borgess hadn’t even submitted a claim to them. Then when I try to straighten this out 3 times, they try to charge 3 different insurances (despite being given the correct insurance info 3 separate times) finally my insurance company got so irritated by their stupidity they dealt with them directly and got it handled for us.Overall the general theme of this hospital seemed to be a total lack of communication, understaffing, and just general cluelessness. The nurses I had were all amazing, two of three doctors I spoke with were very nice but the third had a total attitude when I was just a frustrated mom trying to get home to her family when I’d been constantly told “you should be going home today” for 5 days straight. To be honest I felt like I was there because they wanted money not for my well being. I felt like my treatment was mishandled and lazy.

My grandpa was recently in there for a few weeks and they dehydrated him. He couldnt swallow so he couldnt drink water and apparently theyre too incompetent to know that if someone cant drink water they need another way of getting that water. They didnt give him an iv until we (not them) noticed he was dehydrated and pressed it on them. They couldve killed him. They also dont check their patients to see if they wet themselves and change their stuff as often as they say. They told me every 2hrs but I was there 4hrs and they didnt do that. Also the male nurse saw fecal matter on his sheet and pretended he didnt so he wouldnt have to change it
