We bought a brand new pool from this place and there are definitely some of the staff that are extremely friendly and helpful however I would NOT SUGGEST this place at all! First of all you spend a ton of money when you get a pool the installation was done wrong in many different ways. They had to have someone come out multiple times to fix things that they messed up. They did give us some store credit but it really does not cover the inconvenience of their mistakes.We gave them the benefit of the doubt and had them come out to close our pool for us. They did not do everything correctly as well as left some of our pump plugs just laying in the grass.....Nancy is extremely rude and will argue with you over EVERYTHING. She has no tact when talking with customers.We also still have a part on our pool that they still have not fixed and it has been over a year.....As someone who loves to support local and small business I will NOT go to them for anything else. Please find another place to do your service with. There are plenty of other places to find help with pool supplies.

We were not at all happy with the service we received from Nelson‘s. We bought a new home that has a pool and as first time pool owners, we had no clue what we were supposed to be doing. I called Nelson‘s and explained we were interested in someone coming to explain the equipment to us and show us how to maintain the pool. They asked if we wanted the pool “opened” and although I knew the previous owner was currently using it, I said that would be great but I wanted to make sure we also got some “training”. I figured we could see what they do, they could make sure the equipment was all working properly, etc. I was excited when they seemed friendly and eager to do that. The day of the appointment came a couple weeks later and two kids showed up with 4 gallons of chemicals. One of them dumped all 4 gallons in without explaining what any of it was and not testing the water first to see what it even needed. My husband went with the other one over to the equipment and started asking questions about what the pressure on the pump should be how often we should backwash etc. and received very vague answers. My husband is a mechanic and already knew the basics but wanted specific information. There was one piece of equipment he wasn’t familiar with so he asked what that was for and it turns out it’s a salt chlorine generator. We didn’t know anything about how that works but the kid said it didn’t seem to be working so he couldn’t explain how to use it. We didn’t even get vague answers for that, nothing useful. We did ask that they take measurements so we could replace the ripped canvas on the automatic cover. They said sure they would do that and someone would be in touch with a quote for the replacement cover. They left and we figured we would do our own research and figure it all out ourselves. Then the next day the bill hits my credit card and I found out I was charged almost $400 for that 20 minutes of useless time. We stopped at the store the next day with a water sample and I asked if I could get an itemized bill to see what I paid for. I was told that was the standard opening fee. I said the pool was already open, they did absolutely nothing except put 4 gallons of unknown chemicals into it and we didn’t get what we had asked for - some training. The guy at the desk was totally unapologetic and just said I should call and speak to some woman on Monday if I had more questions. I went to the back to have my water sample run and the advice was that I should add about 180 pounds of salt! I asked if I was supposed to add salt to a chlorine pool and the high school student who was working seemed absolutely befuddled and said oh, no, if it’s chlorine you don’t add salt to it. I left at that point and haven’t (and won’t) be back. Oh, and we’ve never been contacted to follow up on the pool cover. I have no idea if they can’t or just don’t want to provide a quote. In any case, we’ve moved on and they lost what could have been a lifelong customer.

#Bobby #Patrick - Please tell me why you have to wait 6 months for a new hot tub? You havent talked to Nelsons Hometowne Recreations thats why. If you have begun to read this review keep reading because you found where you are going to buy your new hot tub. I didnt step foot in the door, they can verify that. I spoke with Bobby and told him what I wanted and I could tell by just talking to him that he knew what he was doing. While others are still waiting for a hot tub I had mine delivered next day (Thanks to Two Guys and a Spa Dolly). It took some time to get the electrician out but it happened and when I filled up the tub there was a leak. Literally no questions asked, Patrick was out and fixed it next day. Best service ever! Have fun waiting for your hot tub if you dont go to these guys lol.

I needed a cover for a hot tub that a friend gave me. I was helped by knowledgeable staff that took the time to teach me how to correctly measure the tub for an exact fit. I measured the tub and they had the exact cover I needed at a great price. I was very impressed with how helpful the staff was- everyone dropped what they were doing to make sure the cover would work. I am comfortable with Nelsons and will be heading there for all of my future hot tub needs.

I had this company come fix parts of my hot tub that were leaking after getting an estimate on the cost of repairs. Months later its still not usable because of other broken parts they didnt catch. Ive called them numerous times and left messages. Its now starting to freeze at night and the parts I recently replaced will likely break again. Every time I call, Im promptly sent to a answer machine just to be left hanging. Poor customer service.

Very poor service, had to wait four months for parts, but had to pay for parts up front. Parts charge was $1000. When parts came in could not and still not gotten them to install parts. We dont even know if these parts will fix problem.

Buying locally is very important to us, so we thought we would buy from Nelsons. Wanted to order liner and several items for our pool. Mike was helpful when my husband talked to him in the store. However, there has been zero communication or follow up pricing for almost 2 weeks. We left 2 messages and an email, and nothing. Im sure they are busy, but there is no excuse for such poor communication.

I have had good experiences with Nelsons, they helped open my in-ground pool that hadnt been used in over 2 years and was a mess. Free water testing, good advice, Nancy the owner spent lots of time with me on the phone answering my questions.

The people at Nelson’s are very friendly and knowledgeable. There prices are good compared to other similar stores but obviously you can cheaper things at Wal-mart. The price on hot tubs and pool liners are very competitive. If you want good quality and a team that stands behind their products check them out .

The staff is awesome! became a customer this summer after buying a home with a hot tub. I was having some major water issues and they were wonderful in helping me figure it all out. My water has been perfect since! I loved the family atmosphere so much that I decided to become part of their team and I couldnt be happier. All I can say is great job Nelsons!

Are you looking for excellent customer service, knowledgeable techs to support old and new pool and spa accessories alike then look elsewhere because this is not the one. Unlike thoteview there employees are brief in action and aptitude. Techs will leave a job half done and there office employees will blame it on how busy they are this time of year which thre first time I was more then willing to accept. But the best had yet to come. When I was working from home during quarentine, a tech simply let himself in my yard and garage without ever telling me he was there. Which wouldve been fine if the problem was fixed, however when it wasnt and the tech was asked to come out and figure out why there was still a leak they told me they were going to bill me again for having a tech come out to assess why thre first time round there was no resolution. Why would I pay double for what couldve been done in one trip if thre first tech had simply let me know he was here and I couldve checked over the work when he was done.Nancy though cordial was nothing but undermining and full of excuses. Id recommend management looks at how they treat customers or theyll be hard pressed to keep other local customers.

I rarely write reviews but this place is so bad, I cant help myself. Absolutely awful. They came to level my pool table. They didnt level it correctly and when I called, I was told they have never made a mistake ever! The owner Nancy actually told me this.... Then they also told me the table just shifted on its own and its not their problem... I was promised a call back... never happened and 3 voicemails went ignored. Now they want to charge me double what they charged me before to come back out and fix it. Terrible, terrible customer service.

Terrible communication and, at best, mediocre work. After 2 months of unanswered phone calls and emails, I actually had to go into the store to get attention. Then, they didnt even do the work I asked - which was the repair of some shoddy work they did during installation of the liner.

We cant say enough great things about Nelsons! Wish we would have had them do the original installation. In addition to having crystal clear water all summer long with their pool service, they have worked diligently to help us resolve all the issues that the original installer couldnt address. You wont go wrong with this company. They are super friendly, incredibly helpful and work hard to make sure you know how to care for and maintain your pool. I give them the highest recommendations!

This is one of the worst places I have ever been. Bought a rather expensive pool cue. There was a flaw and due to the price of the cue my husband and I took it back to see what could be done. They said they would contact the seller and get back to us. (While they kept our cue and money). We let a week go by, no phone call, so we called them. We were assured we would get a call back and they would try the seller again. This went on for 2 months. The service in returning phone calls is horrible. Not only that, when we did ask for a refund, the owner had just left and apparently we couldnt get our refund. This happened twice. Now our refund is being mailed to us. Unbelievable. We are the best kind of customers for this establishment. We have a hot tub, no children, we have a recreation room, and both play on billiard leagues. Stupid move Nelsons, we will always be taking our business elsewhere and be sure to spread the word, do not go here.

I give Nelson HomeTowne Recreation a big thumbs up. The business is family owned by Nancy and Duwane. They go above and beyond to make sure you are buying exactly what you need. Everyone who works there is very knowledgeable about their products and extremely friendly. You can tell that their management style trickles from the top right on through the entire employee staff. Service is excellent as well. All of my previous comments are the reasons our family continually returns to Nelsons to do business.

Bree is in charge of service. She get requests from over 50 people per day, but when we really needed help to open our pool cover, she made it happen. She has guided us through a lengthy repair process. Tyler is knowledgeable, respectful and capable and even shows up on time. Duane Nelson came out too and he and Tyler personally repaired our cover, then checked some other pool issues out and gave very helpful suggestions. What a breath of fresh air! Thank you Nelsons!

Horrible, horrible, horrible on the service side. We tell them whats going on with our hot tub and simply need a repair vs. replacement estimate for freeze damage over the winter due to the cover blowing off and snow blowing in our winterized hot tub. Tech comes out, removes several jets, bypasses drain pump, said he fixed A leak, and leaves. System is still leaking and parts that were removed are sitting in bottom of tub. We get a voice mail a week later telling us that our hot tub is in bad shape from mice damage to insulation. What?! I call back and speak with the service department. We are only asking for an estimate related to freeze damage and nothing else. The mice didnt cause freeze damage to the fiberglass. They say they will send someone out several days later so we make sure were home. The day theyre supposed to come, they call and say theyll come the next day. Next day, no call no show. I call and leave a message for them to call us if they want our business (as we will likely replace the hot tub but need a repair estimate first). Still no call. And we still have parts missing, etc. from when their first tech came. Obviously customer service is an issue for this place based on other reviews. Dont trust all the positive reviews on Google since they can be fake reviews from the business.

If you are a first time pool buyer this is not the place for you! Expect you know everything, not helpful at all. With hold information from the beginning. Give quotes on builds and entire project, when the build is contracted out to the owners sons company, so prices don’t match up. Build done over 2 weeks after potential date was, weather excuse used way to much to believe. Nancy and son Jason told us two different stories on several occastions. I was accused of “blowing up their phones”, when calling Nancy once to inform her how unhappy we were, and texting Jason twice, only because he didn’t answer the first day, for which we got two different excuses. Awful customer service. Do not expect anyone of them to care or listen to your concerns. Once they have your money, you are out of luck! And it makes me sick up think of how much of my money they have! Also, I encourage more people to go to the better business bureau because I have seen and heard a lot of unhappy reviews, and I was the first to report, so they look like they have a good rating there. Save future potential customers from this god awful situation we have had to go through!!UPDATE to response: As I said before, I attempted to call and discuss, and got accused of blowing up phones, so I don’t know what calling again would do to fix this situation!

I also heard the owner in the back yelling at someone while I was there - scary! We bought a hot tub and needed to replace the filter it came with (it was dirty when we got it) and they charged $50 for a filter that is $25 at Menards and $20 online. The chemicals I purchased were about twice the cost of what they are available for elsewhere. When inquiring about moving the tub to our new house, they wanted $500, but graciously agreed to lower the price to $450. Other local businesses quoted prices of $350, $250, and a max of $300; all with insurance on the tub. I certainly advocate shopping locally, but not when businesses take advantage of you. The service you receive here in no way justifies the higher pricing. Theyre charging Cadillac prices for Chevy service; explore other options before you buy anything here.

I would not recommend this company to build your pool! Ive had many issues with the installation of our pool including improper concrete installation, major ground water issues, poor fence installation and now a gas leak! They wanted to charge $90 hr to come diagnose the issue! You would think after you forked out the cash to put an in-ground pool in they would want to make it right. Btw...that is what the owners told me when I decided to go with them! They would be there to make it right if there were any problems!In addition they are WAY over priced on annual maintenance.Find a better company to spend your hard earned money with!

Customer service for repairs/maintenance is seriously lacking. It takes a week to actually talk to Bree, and then she has to schedule so far out that you arent able to use spa for a month. Then when they are out and ran into an issue, they need to order part(a week out) and once part in then schedule repair(another 1-2 weeks), then do repair, and not finish going thru hot tub from first appointment...we gave up, and are getting new hot tub(not from them) and do not reccomend using them. Plus would not take back unopened/brand new chems with reciept! I do not reccomend going through this place! I understand there are delays and things they cant help, but this was ridiculous.

Nelsons is friendly, but they are inexperienced, too busy, and extremely over priced. Being new to the area and new to pool ownership I put my trust in Nelsons to help me open both my pool and hot tub. They quoted me around $600 for opening both. When they arrived, they hooked up my pump and ran a hose to my pool to begin filling it up. They then took a look at my hot tub. They said there was a leak, but they would have to do diagnostics on a second visit at $99 an hour to figure it out. They also said I would need a new top panel display for the hot tub which would cost around $300 not including installation/trip fees. After filling my pool with chemicals, they gave me instructions to let the water run into my pool until dinner time or until the water level reached the 2nd screw on the face of the skimmer. At dinner time, we saw that it wasnt there yet, At 7pm, the water level was just at the bottom of the skimmer, but had not reached the designated fill line, and finally at 8pm when my husband and I saw that it was still not full, my husband walked down to the pump and found water gushing out of open holes in our pump that were supposed to have been plugged. He found the plugs laying on the ground and plugged the spouts, but there were leaks from the skimmer box and the filter. I called Nelsons and talked to Bri who had been out there with her assistant. She admitted that her assistant was new and still learning, and that she did not check his work on my filter and pump before leaving. With my strong suggestions, they gave me a $50 discount and offered to come out and look again. They said I would need a new skimmer $200, a new housing for my filter $100 and install would be around $100. There was an older filter and pump system under my deck. They took one look and said that the housing for that one would never fit on my current filter. I thanked them and let them leave. Since they did not open my hot tub, and they could not successfully open my pool, I only had to pay $125. I say only, but it was $125 for nothing, as my pool turned green despite the chemicals since I didnt have a working filter, and we were unable to use our pool or hot tub. I called Hot Tub Tonyz and begged him to come out all the way from IL to fix my pool and hot tub for a reasonable price. I still have to buy a skimmer, but he sold and installed the display panel for my hot tub, and the new panel he sold to me for the amazon price of $91.! It took him 3 minutes to find the broken part below the hot tub that was causing the leak, and he replaced it and didnt charge me for the part saying that it was cheap. He then saw that I had an extra pump and said the housing would fit onto my new filter! He switched the housings and yes, perfect fit! I paid less than $400 and my pump and hot tub are now in working order, and he helped me find a skimmer box for $100 online. I will be using Hot Tub Tonyz for my future pool and hot tub needs.

Darts customer: Friendly staff. Short, typical small-town hours (I hate when stores close at 6, when the majority of people who have money to spend, most likely work until 5 or 6, and its not made up for on the weekend either.Has a decent selection of accessories at a slightly cheaper price than say Bullseye in Madison. Could use more accessories like Darts-line tapes, bristle boards, different flight systems (beginning to find that Fit Flights are a bit overrated).All that being said, this is my go-to place in the Stateline area for Darts supplies.PS - also has a decent Innova Disc-golf selection, along with other recreational games.

I would not hesitate to recommend Nelsons Hometown recreation to anyone! After a botched job putting in a pool liner by another company (just horrendous) I called Nelsons to the rescue. The liner put in by the other company did not meet seams at the corners, used pennys, dimes and quarters to level the coping, and get this, gorrilla tape to hold the coping to the side wall of the pool! Nelsons came in and fixed it all. If I hadnt called them, my pool would have been un-openable next year! Will never ever stray from them again! NEVER. Honest, friendly, professional and reliable! Sure, you can pay a little less somewhere else, but believe me, you get what you pay for! I learned my lesson. Nelsons from here on out!
