The single greatest place Iβve ever been. Jiu Jitsu changed my life and I have faith it may do the same for you or anyone else willing to commit. The discipline solely has transformed my worldview, and that stands without mentioning the amazing people you will meet and all the cool moves you will learn. You couldnβt pick a better place to learn! I hope to see you there soon π perhaps we can roll together
Professors Shane and Chico are two consummate professionals with dynamic teaching ability, and pour every ounce of energy they have into the art of Jiu Jitsu. Iβve taken a few 1 on 1 lessons with Chico and thereβs never a dry moment. Iβm always floored at how much I take away from each session. By the way, this gym wouldnβt take my money for the 3 weeks Iβm visiting. So I payed for a few 1 on 1s as returned gesture.
I signed a 6 month contract with combat club, and I absolutely loved the place. They literally have everything you could ask for in a gym. The instructors are awesome and always willing to answer questions, the gym is very clean, great atmosphere, and amazing people! As far as the contract, they explained everything to me thoroughly so I knew exactly what I was signing. I have recommended this place to multiple people and theyβve also enjoy it.
I went to Thailand twice and fought in Muay Thai but trained here pretending not to know anything, the overall gym was good and I liked the environment but the coaches there unfortunately arenβt good enough to be coaches in my opinion. You most likely wonβt go far if you plan on trying to get really good. The main thing was the cancellation fee makes the whole gym look bad. Thereβs only a year contract and if you donβt like it they pretty much donβt care about you and make you pay a huge fee to cancel, if they wanted to be a good gym you shouldnβt be that worried about the money.
Great atmosphere and wonderful teaching staff. Canβt rave about them enough. Just good people and knowledgeable instruction. The below isnβt to keep you away from CC - just to make you aware and sure of how you deal with them financially. Then why not five stars? Wouldβve been five, but when we moved due to the military they refused to refund the money (several months worth). When we signed up and paid for the year in advance, we were very clear that I was likely to move. We were assured REPEATEDLY that all we had to do was provide the cancellation and it would be pro-rated.So we did, and were denied refund because we had received a discounted yearly rate. Having moved with the military for over 20 years - I know what questions to ask: they did not honor their agreement. It was really disappointing, but I feel like the βback officeβ is sorely (and gratefully) not much to do with what happens on the mat. Kids and parents alike will revel in the instruction and environment.
Was Amazing! Very welcoming and has everything you would need. As long and youre willing to bring the discipline and dedication. Highly Recommend 11/10.
Always a great experience. Friendly coaches and able to assist and teach no matter how much experience you have.
Loved this place coaches are amazing, great staff, clean, and great place to bring children.
Changed my life got me off the couch and back doing what i love. when i moved up here if you wouldve told me Id meet the people and make the friends Ive made. and experience the change and growth. Id probably just roll my eyes. I dropped 35 pounds. and in a year i put 4 stripes on a blue belt. then 4 months later. That belt was Purple. Combat Club is a Martial Arts Facility and what you put into it is what you will get out of it. But the instructors are also some of the most enlightening and wonderful people Ive had the pleasure of knowing. Ive made a family of out this place. maybe thats biased because I see them as a family after so much time with the Brazil 021/Combat Club Team and becoming friends with the students and faculty. But getting back on top of it The Muay Thai Instructors are amazing down to earth and have a genuine love for teaching and sharing knowledge of the art. The Boxing instructors are So knowledgeable that they come from different walks and styles that youre getting a bargain for the coaching. And I reforged my love for Jiu Jitsu with several instructors. 3 Professors. and Several Coaches who all come from different walks of life and styles in Jiu Jitsu all have one goal in mind making your approach to jiu jitsu the best it is for you. Your Journey in jiu jitsu will be a marathon not a sprint -Professor Chico and everyone has to start somewhere. A car wreck, Depression, and myself all tried to stop me. And this place didnt let me beat myself from being better and Im still going. Do yourself the favor. Whatever you wanna get into the combat sports for. Fitness? Self Defense? Confidence? If this place did it for a guy like me. it can do it for you.
Not just a gym but a family. All the staff is personable and more than willing to help. Owners are more than willing to work with you as long as you actually talk to them about whatβs going on. Striving to make improvements and raise the quality of the facility.
Definitely my second home and family. Great owners, instructors and teammates; a great range of class options and an amazing, supportive atmosphere. Come train and find out more about yourself!
We love Combat Club! The staff is amazing, helpful and extremely nice! We are so glad we found them! The coaches really care about the kids! I would give them more than 5 stars if I could!
My favorite place to go train. The coaches are amazing and the environment is so welcoming. I fell in love with this place the first day I stepped into the building.
I have been teaching traditional Martial Arts for over 30 years. The Combat Club is just a couple towns away from my club. They are absolutely best place to train in Jacksonville. Great instructors and staff!
8 years in bjj, coming from Miami, FL itβs very hard to find a high level gym that has varying people to roll and great instruction/ a lot of mat space and in a town where thereβs pretty much nothing I feel extremely lucky to be able to train here and I have been all over the states I have trained JJ with some of the best guys in the world and when I tell you this gym is legit I mean it, the environment is super friendly and welcoming yes the training is hard but it is a combat sport with that being said the guys and gals here do take care of each other with out question there is no better gym in the area .. one of the best things about it is their unbiased approach to teaching if a move works theyβll teach it they are incredibly straight forward and donβt push you to buy any extra bs they really do treat you like family. 10/10
This place hands down saved my life. The staff will welcome you with open arms no matter what. Theyβve became my family and combat club has become my second home. They push you beyond what you think you can do and youβll be surprised by what you can do. They are encouraging, caring people that know what theyβre doing in terms of training with every single discipline they offer. I strongly believe theyβve perfected their practice. I highly suggest this school.
I love this place. The staff is so friendly and they take the time to say Hi to the kids. Its a great atmosphere for everyone. They are very helpful. My son does the kids boxing and his coach is very nice and takes the time to teach the kids at their skill level. I have never had any problems with anyone here they are super supportive and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a kid friendly place to take up one of the many classes offered here.
Great staff and atmosphere
Best staff in town
Absolutely love the place, training was great
I donβt know why it took me a year and a half to write this review, but in that time this place has been my sanctuary, training grounds, and battlefield all in one. This place has helped my family through transitions, a deployment, grad school, and so many other things. There are no clients, just new family members. This place has instilled a confidence in not only myself as a female fighter, but my 5 year old (who started at 3). I have learned that I am capable of more than I couldβve ever imagined! All of the staff is knowledgeable, approachable, and willing to teach. Itβs not easy, yes you may get hurt, but thatβs what it means to train in martial arts!Iβve seen several posts regarding billing... itβs simple. While yes you may indeed be military, you are still obligated to provide a 30 day notice of cancellation.... Simply put you know when youβre leaving cancel 30 days prior then there is not issue! You wouldnβt tell your apartment the day youβve packed everything up to leave thatβs the day you want to terminate a lease, same rules apply. They work with any budget, can freeze billing if you deploy, and as I said, will cancel your membership with no extra charge. Go in for yourself, be open-minded/coachable, and make your own decisions!
Wonderful people. Their kindness and professionalism helped me get out of a dark place. Especially coach Dara and Brad. Best investment of time and self development Iβve ever made. Worth every penny and bruiseπ€π½.
Great family friendly gym
Myself my wife our 5, 6, 14, and 19 year old train here. The membership for a family is very affordable especially when you consider how many classes are offered each week and the other ammeneties offered at the gym. Our two youngest train under Coach Shane and Coach Robert who both have an amazing way with our youngest two ( including our special needs 6 yo). The instructors for kickboxing and the boxing classes are world class athletes and take their time breaking the basics down so it is easy for a beginner to learn and for a seasoned fighter to fine tune there fight style. Yoga is offered 5 days a week ( check out the drop in rates for Yoga in town and see what a value it is having it included in the family membership). There is also a weight room and a room specifically for private lessons. I have been studying martial arts for many years and am happy to have found a school of this caliber in Jacksonville NC. Thank you to all of the amazing teachers and professors that have had a positive impact on mine and my families lives. Combat Club for life!!
My family and I have been going to Combat Club since they opened and it has been nothing but a great experience for us. We felt welcomed from day one. Theyre very family oriented. Great instructors, amazing community, and awesome facility. I recommend this place to people of all walks of life!
My three boys, my husband, and myself started going the end of February. Since then we have made new friends and found a second family. The staff not only run the facility but also participated or teach classes. Very family oriented and there is something for the whole family. I would recommend anyone here not only for the fitness but as a place to expand your experience and to meet new people π€. The manager Chuck is very helpful, informative and so professional.
Combat Club is like no other gym. When you go there, you become part of the family. My family and I feel very comfortable here. CC offers a variety of disciplines for both adults and children. The instructors are knowledgeable and do an excellent job of demonstrating the proper execution of a move, explaining it, the method behind it, countering it, as well as different ways to achieve a maneuver. Strength, fitness, and flexability goals are definetly reached here!
Absolutely phenomenal instructors and staff! Were so grateful for this gym, Coach Dar, Coach Brad, and the other outstanding staff members and coaches. Theyre all very dedicated to offering you and your family the tools and tips necessary to succeed.
Great place to train with knowledgeable coaches from all disciplines. Come check it out!
From the first day I stopped in to inquire about programs offered for my 7 year old, EVERYONE has been nothing but helpful. Chuck, the manager, and the entire staff have been incredibly courteous and supportive... the instructors (coaches) are INCREDIBLE... and the entire environment is structured to provide a positive experience for the kids and parents alike. Coach Shane and the other instructors have helped my son learn Jiu Jitsu skills, improve his overall athletic abilities, gain self- confidence, and also learn valuable life lessons. HIGHLY Recommended!
Five stars isnt enough. I have come in with zero experience. The staff has been extremely welcoming as have the members. Everybody has been amazing and enthusiastic to spread their knowledge. Bring the family.
Avoid this place. I used to go to this club when I was stationed in Camp LeJeune in 2012. I told the clubs billing personnel to cancel my membership because Im leaving North Carolina and that Im getting out of the military. The club told me that they will cancel my membership and everything will be taken care of. A year have gone by, I got a letter in New Jersey that I owe the club $750 for membership, and that the account will go to collection agency. I called the club to tell them of the situation and that I had cancel the membership. They insist that I pay the $750 and they deny that I cancelled my membership. And now they are hurting my credit score. Avoid this place at all cost, especially if you are military. They are scam and a con artists.
My son has been going to this DOJO/Fitness Center since Late in 2012. We spend between 4-5 days a week at this facility. The staff is friendly, the instructors are top notch, and your fellow practitioners attempt to get everyone to strive to become better at whatever art you are practicing. I would recommend Combat Club to anyone who wants to learn martial arts.
Best Muay Thai Class in Jacksonville, The coach is very nice and will do everything he can to help you succeed. If you want to learn you need to stop by the Combat Club
Awesome gym, family oriented, great staff, outstanding instructors across all disciplines.
Dirty gym, and dirty business practices. I went there on and off for about a year and even after I cancelled I got billed for another month. I work law enforcement locally as well as being in the Air Force Reserves, so I wanted to learn how to handle myself if I had to. A buddy of mine from my LE job who was stationed there as a Marine told me about this place so I went and checked it out. Its definitely a bunch of dirty tattooed fake tough guys trying to act like they are going to be the next UFC champ. I got ringworm twice, and several times I showed up for boxing class and the instructor was late. Once on a Saturday I came in and the instructor never showed up. Also, do not bring your wife there, since she will get more attention from some of the workers than you do trying to train. I just talked to my friend that got stationed in VA this summer and they are screwing him, trying to get money from him even though he quite going there over a year ago and they told him they would cancel the collections. I know this guy well and hes called several times and they wont call him back. DONT SIGN ANYTHING with them. I know two other guys who are Marines stationed there who had the same problem when they deployed. I told them to get on here and tell what happened to them.
I came from a different gym when I moved here a few years ago and at my old gym our closest blackbelt was 3 hours away so we would travel on weekends to train with him. When I moved here I asked my professor which gym should I join in the area. He instructed me to join combat club saying that the Jiu jitsu falls under the affiliate Brazil 021 which is well respected in the Jiu jitsu community. After hearing this I joined . At the combat club they have 3 certified black belts under the Ibjjf. To have 3 different minds to learn from is such a blessing to my martial arts journey . One of which is actually a published author of a book on how to teach kids Jiu jitsu . This place is veteran owned and operated and will doing anything within reason to help any service member, veteran To get some stress free training. I love how being a marine of lower rank doesnβt mean you are less than anyone else when coming to this gym. Young marines get the chance to leave the rank behind and trainalongside people who could be private or a captain and rank is never even a subject of discussion . Everyone is equal on the mats . I am not a huge boxer but for the sake of stand up fighting for MMA I have taken a classes and many Muay Thai classes . Granted the boxing coaches arenβt household names from their boxing career . I was presently surprised to learn they all had extensive years competing and most of which have been inducted into the marine corps boxing hall of fame. If they didnβt know what they were doing then they wouldnβt have achieved such an accomplishment . The Muay Thai program has instructors of all sizes and shapes and this really helps because of the student base could go from kid to soccer service members mom who wants to get fit to to super athletic . It reminds me of traditional days of martial arts where instructors would teach each student is what is needed instead of a cookie cutter program where they can cash in on money easily.
I am very impressed by the staff & facility. Their ability to teach different ages, on the necessary level of the individual student, was quite a surprise and not what I expected. I have gained understanding of the discipline necessary for an individual to be able to focus on everyday life....... just by watching how training is handled and taught. As a grand mother, I watch quite often and have been very pleased by the change, for the better, in my grandchildrens level of self asteem yet respect for their piers.I have great respect for Coach Shane and his ability and different technique, for the sport from the youngest age thru adulthood.
My family have been members for almost a year and love it! All the staff and management are kind, patient and helpful. The kids bjj coach, Shane, is incredible. My two kids love him have learned so much. The Muay Thai instructors are also wonderful. As a woman with absolutely no fighting experience they welcomed me into their classes and always take the time to answer my questions. The facility is clean, memberships and equipment are very reasonably priced. I cant say enough good things.
Avoid at all cost! Unreliable training schedules and dishonest cancellation policy. I was stationed there in 2013 and signed a membership with the understanding that i was on a year contract and could cancel if I received orders. I told several people at the front desk, including the owner Brad that I was deploying in 2016, well after my initial contract had expired. I was told by Brad and another front desk worker no problem that they would cancel my membership and I even paid the month after the 30 days notice just because I wanted to be a good dude. I was gone for six months, came home, and received orders to Quantico. Last June (a year later) they attempted to bill my checking account, and my back denied the charge. I called and told them I was not in the area and was told sorry, well take care of it. 4 months later I got a call from a collection agency saying I owed Combat Club money. I immediately called back and talked to the same desk guy, who assured my that he served too and understands. He said the accountant would be in on Monday and he would get the issue fixed and get back with me on Thursday, 26 Oct. I provided my email in order to have confirmation as I am becoming aware that I am not the only Marine that has had problems with this place. In a simular review, the owner tells the person to call any time Mon-Fri from 9am on and they will work with them. I have called several times and either it goes to voice mail that is not set up, or it automatically hangs up. I looked at my contract and to make matters more comical thr contract is actually dated incorrectly, so by those dates i was never obligated since he wrote the same year as the expiration date. I am attempting to report this issue to the Better Business Bureau as well as the base off limits board since I believe this business has done this to several people.
Muay Thai instructors are good. Staff is unhelpful, too many people working different hours. Never know who Iβm talking to. Billing is set up inefficiently. Waste of money
Literally the only martial arts gym in the area that is qualified and know what they are doing. Ive watched my son transform into a true athlete because of this gym.
My son started about 2 weeks ago after Coach Chris told his sister about it...he loves it and I love the family atmosphere.
Great trainers and coaches. Recieve alot of close training with purple, brown and black belts. Great atmosphere, everyone is friendly and helpful.
Terrible gym. Instructors have no real experience and teach YouTube lessons... literally off of YouTube. Worse, this place has some unsavory people hanging around and the equipment is filthy. The only real Muay Thai instructor left years ago and opened a gym in New Bern. Drive there and avoid the convicts and fake tough guys.
The absolutely best place to train in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Great instructors and wonderful atmosphere.
Excellent programs keeps the whole family involved.
My family and I have been coming to the Combat Club for almost 9 months. It has been a great experience for all of us. Very family oriented, there is something for everyone, (Jiu,Jitus, Muay Thai, Boxing, MMA, and more). The instructors are patient and great to work with you to ensure that you understand the technique or show you away to modify for you.I recommend this place to everyone.
Great. Gym
Great people, good instruction
If you in your 40s like myself and curious trying something new to challenge yourself then look no further. The place awesome!
I had always been interested in Krav Maga and since this was the only place in eastern North Carolina that offered it, and since a friend of mine suggested it to me, I decided to give this place a shot.Things were going well for a while and I was genuinely learning new things but it wasnt long until problems began to arise. For one, the instructor had no qualms about not showing up on time - or even at all on several occasions - and didnt seem to think it would have been at least a little courteous to inform his students that he didnt plan on showing up. At the time I was living in Sneads Ferry and a trip to Jacksonville was at least a 25 minute ordeal on a regular night. Driving a half hour to one of the most god-forsaken cities on the east coast just to find out there wasnt going to be anyone there to teach class is something that I cant imagine many people being OK with. There were times when the rest of the instructor staff and those that manage the club couldnt even tell me where the instructor was, and I dont know any place on this earth where that is acceptable. I was informed by some of the staff that another instructor, a man who taught Isshinryu Karate, didnt even get paid to teach, but you better believe I saw him there every single time I stopped in.The front desk staff were mostly helpful, although none of them could ever seem to spell my last name correctly (despite the fact that I had written it down rather plainly when I filled out the paperwork to join the club) which invariably lead to issues whenever I tried to sign in. (No, its spelled this way, but you have it spelled incorrectly in the system... STILL.)I wouldnt recommend this club to anyone who had other options. The sad fact is, the only reason this school is so popular is that it is one of very few in the area, and they capitalize on the local military populace to make a buck.
Awesome place to train.
Manager was inpatient and rude. No thanks !
This place is a rip off.
Highly recommended
