I highly recommend this company, are rental management put in a work order and they came out the same day. Cody was very nice and did not mind my crazy son at all, he was quick on fixing are ac. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. They got here quick and same day, which you don’t get with a lot of these companies.

Customer service was very disappointing! I called and had an appointment scheduled for Monday 8 am to get an estimate on gutter installation. I took off work and stayed home all day and no one showed up or even called! Around 1 pm I called again to see what had happened and I was told they would look into it. Once again no return call! If this is how you do business I am GLAD that you didnt return my call or even show up. This is unprofessional. If you were unable to make the appointment due to other higher priority projects, a simple phone call and reschedule would have sufficed... Thanks for wasting my time, you guys are AWESOME pieces of trash!

Good quick service however having to pay for service to fix equipment on a 2yr old house sucks.
I called on a weekend not knowing if anyone would be available. I received a call from the tech on call who explained pricing and availability with me. He came out and got us back up and running quickly. For the repair, he offered 3 options which was really nice as opposed to my experience in the past with other air conditioning companies. He also explained their maintenance plan which saved us some money on the bill due to the discount I received for having the plan. The tech was very respectful of our home and wore a mask and shoe covers. Very professional and a pleasure to deal with. Im glad I have the service plan and highly recommend Kenneth if you need service.
Kenny came out and quickly found the issue with my ac and after explaining what was wrong as well as what caused the issue, he presented a couple of solutions for me to chose from. He was very professional and courteous, even wore a mask and shoe covers every time he entered the house. Great job Down East, you have wonderful staff! I just moved to the area back in late summer and called to get my ac/heat serviced. While Cody was out here I asked him about solutions for my allergies that I never had before I moved to NC. He was very knowledgeable and not only offered affordable solutions but he knew so much more and explained how moisture control can effect irritants in the air. I did my own research to verify this and everything he said was true. This was a completely different service than I ever experienced before.
After $1200 and 2 home visits, days of going without a/c with 3 children and 1 elderly/disabled person and 2 dogs in the house. Temp at 97 degrees inside. Told us the a/c would be fine just take a stick to spin the fan outside. Smh. Outdated, horrible customer service, and no emergency services. Have had their service since 1992 and sorry to say will be changing companies after this.

We have had a wonderful experience with Down East Heating & Air. There are quite a few HVAC outfits in the Carolina Beach area, but we will ONLY use Down East. They are knowledgeable, prompt, and completely transparent about the costs of the job. Moreover, the quality of their work is excellent. Al, the owner of the business is actually involved in the details of the job, which gives one confidence that each job is taken quite seriously and with his personal attention. And last but far from least, Adam, the project manager is just fantastic to work with. We really couldnt be happier with their work!
If every business responded to their customers the way Down East in Wilmington does there would be many happy people! They are ALWAYS on time, perform excellent work, are fast and very careful to cleanup after themselves. The prices are more than reasonable. Adam has helped us twice, once with a duct issue (from our previous system) and recently after a hurricane for a checkup we requested. Both times he was fast, courteous, and explained what he was doing and why. This is very important to us. Been using Down East for 13 years at our current home. Upstairs unit went out. Needed to be replaced to due bad coil and leaked refrigerant. Kenny is very professional, easy to talk to about your problem and gives his recommendations as to what to do. New unit install was very thorough and they worked well as a team. Unresponsive. Called multiple times for a service call and was told someone will call you back. They never did, so I assume business is booming and they can pick and choose which customers to engage.

These guys came out three weeks ago and replaced an ac capacitor in our brand new gone of 2 yrs, afterwards air came back on but there was hardly any pressure. Had to set thermostat to 67 to be comfortable in the house. Hated the thought of setting the temp so low for a two story house but what else can u do. Thermostat would say 67 but would feel like 72 in the house. They swore it was the humidity outside. Guy said he would check the thermostat but he left the took he needed at home. Um WTH. So after going back and forth he checked the refrigerant which he said was low along with the head pressure and the plastic caps were broken so he replaced with brass ones. After that I guess going to get the tool to check the thermostat went out the window. These guys do the bare minimum just to get out the door. Who wants a repair man that you have to tell them what to check or what to do! That’s why we call you!!!This is our 2nd year in our brand new home so we’re under a 5 year warranty, we’ll be setting up a scheduled maintenance with a different company and just pay the cost. This was Extremely poor service with lazy technicians. If you want thorough service go elsewhere!!!! Save yourself the headache.
We have had to use Down East to fix issues with our system twice since moving into our home, and both experiences have been wonderful. The technicians are friendly, knowledgeable, and quick without sacrificing quality. Our technician today was Ken, and he provided fantastic service with sound and affordable recommendations for moving forward to keep our system functioning as it should. He took time explaining everything he was doing and why it was needed and also did the same with his recommendations. I appreciated that attention to detail as someone who knows absolutely nothing about system maintenance. I would highly recommend this company to anyone, and if you can ask for someone specifically, I would highly recommend Ken!

After putting up with diminishing service over 15 years finally had enough. Every year for last 6 I had at least one event. Poor customer service. Technicians always busy until next week. Lady who answers phone giggles about wait time. Technician shows up to charge service call then admits no parts to actually fix the problem. Always seems to be at least a 10 day wait for parts on a unit they HEAVILY sell as one that is built for area, worth the extra price!One technician fixes problem that breaks next eeek. Next comes out to refix problem and wants to charge for another service call.Good luck if you use them.

I called Down East three times to get an estimate of work to be done at our church. Three times I was greeted on the phone by a polite woman who said that someone would return my call. On the third call I even mentioned that Ive been told twice before that someone would call me to set up an estimate and this woman PROMISED me that someone would call that day. Still no phone call. I guess they dont want my business.

Got our ac replaced a little over a year ago and it’s already having problems call them out right before our warranty ends (it’s only a year) they tell us it just needs cleaned. Have someone else come look at it and they didn’t even install everything that they were suppose to and that’s why it’s having problems 🙃 of course our warranty is up now but we are missing a piece that every ac is suppose to have. It’s only been a year we shouldn’t be having problems already 🙄

I had my Bryant HVAC system installed by Down East in 2008 and it has been great. In almost 9 years I believe Ive only needed servicing twice and that was in extreme heat which is expected. Both times the repair was minor and they responded very quickly.Also in 2010 Down East Gutters installed all of my gutters. Ive noticed many others since I had mine installed and these are definitely better quality. They installed the in only a few hours and did a phenomenal job.Id recommend them to anyone. Quality work and great people in every area of their business.
Down East replaced one of my commercial HVAC units for me and the experience was good enough that I will call them for any future work I might need done. I had already gotten an estimate from another company. I called Down East for a second estimate and it was over $2000 lower than the first company, which I then realized was seriously ripping me off. I fully trust Down East to be honest in their prices and their work.
Had a 10 cent plastic tab on our wall zone thermostat control break-couldnt change zones. They sent out a young, friendly (and someday experienced) tech who said he wasnt sure what to do but would tell the boss to call us that afternoon and advise us. Wrote a $90 service call check and never received a call. We fashioned a tab from toothpicks and scotch tape and its been working fine for the last year & a half. Customer service took a back seat.
They were rude as hell, an didnt even do the job right. Had to call them 3 times to get it fixed..
Had my A/C go out last night and called them this morning. The receptionist said that someone would be out later today, but couldnt give a time estimate. The technician (Larry) came out around noon and after I described what the A/C unit was doing, he quickly pinpointed the problem (bad capacitor). He had the part already on the truck and quickly replaced it and we had working A/C again in about 20 minutes! The technician was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
Very unprofessional phone staff and non responsive when called to do repairs on the unit they installed... Rude and judgmental.
Ken at Down East has always taken great care of us. We have a rental property in the area that has needed A/C service here and there and he has always been great!
If I could give this company zero stars, I would!! Absolutely horrible customer service at the reception office! The ladies that would answer either would not know anything about our service call or said that service men were on their way. After having to fax over multiple copies of our information to their office and calling three or four times a day for two weeks to set up an appointment for a week later. It took almost a month to fix our A/C for our home and we will deal with these people again! Unfortunately, this past time we had to because our property manager has a contract with them but when we get our own house they will not be on our list and they will never get any recommendations from us!
STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!! Our a/c unit needed replacing because of a blown compressor that happened on Saturday and I have had service with another company for 12 years and they were ones who diagnosed issue but were not timely in giving me any info without me calling them back twice and they were not able to put new unit in until next week. I called Down East on Monday morning and Jason came out that day to see what we would need. Jason came back to our home on Tuesday with a typed up estimate. Every person I spoke to, Tayler, Joan and Jason were very friendly and professional. I took time getting other estimates and decided on them because of best price and called this morning at 830am and they said they would be here tomorrow which was great! I received a phone call from Joan and she said they had a cancellation and was sending a crew right over. We are so excited and thankful! Thank you to Josh, Cecil and Ty for being awesome techs and putting our new unit in and answering all my many questions !!!
Air Conditioner quit working and it was on a Saturday. Technician came out, evaluated and had it running. Within a couple of days, it stopped working again, and Technician came out and found the root cause this time. Part was ordered, Service scheduled an appointment and Technician installed part swiftly, performed total system check and we have a comfortable indoor environment once again. We found the company to be efficient, effective and professional.
If I could give no stars I would. Previously I’ve had no problems with them. Today however is a different story. Super unprofessional. Nasty attitude from whoever is working at their office. I guess I have no choice but to use their services because I rent and that’s who they send out. It’s either that or come out of pocket, though, I’m finding digging into my own exspenses may actually be better than to deal with such bad customer service. I’d rather not support a business with employees who treat their clients so poorly because THEY(Down East) made a mistake and got it wrong. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND
Horrible customer service!!!My air handler had been damaged from a storm so I called Down East to come repair it. After I had talked with Down East I called my insurance company to find out about filing a claim, which I did do. Down East came out to my house and did not perform any diagnostic work or repair work. I explained to the technician that I only needed an estimate for my insurance company which he totally understood and provided me with. However, I was charged a trip/diagnostic fee of $72.00. I then called the Down East office a few days later to discuss their reasoning for charging me this fee. The secretary I talked to at the time said she would have her office manager call me back. The office manager called me back later that day and was still unable to provide me a refund or at least a portion of the fee I had paid. I was told that the owner would give me a call because he was the only one that could provide me with a refund. Two days had passed and I hadnt received a phone call so I called Down East and explained the situation to the gentleman that answered the phone. Their stance was; that it was my fault because I called for a repair and not for an estimate. The gentleman that I spoke with told me that the owner was already giving me a discount from $85.00 for my zip code to the $72.00 that I paid. I informed him that was the amount I was charged the day the technician came out to my house.My advice to anyone needing any type of HVAC work done is to avoid this company.
Brand new system doesnt work. After two days they came out and said it needed a relay. Three days later in coldest NC weather in history, they say cant get into shop to get relay because its locked. Dont buy from them -they are losers.
Called on a Friday morning. Was asked for my name/number and was told I would receive a call for scheduling. Little while later I was contacted and was told a technician would be at my house this afternoon and I would receive a call before their arrival. I was contacted shortly after lunch and was told the technician was on the way. Technician named Terry showed up and diagnosed the problem and was done in about an hour. Air is working fine and I appreciate the service I received.

On 14 October 2015, I had the first winter service check on my homes heat pump system completed by Mr. Daniel DeRosa the companys service tech. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and thorough in checking both the attic and outside components of the system. He was also patient in answering my questions regarding the basic preventive maintenance steps I should take as a homeowner. Based on my experience with that service visit and the cost, I would not hesitate to recommend this company to other homeowners.
This was the work order that I received from the technician.Checked over unit, Found grounded out compressorto replace compressor with labor and parts was going to cost me $1730.I called another company to verify. Turn out they Replace 1 Pole 30 Amp Universal $229.47 and Replace Capacitor $109.50. My AC is working great and I didnt have to replace the compressor that the tech said it was bad. Recommendations: Hire a seasoned tech that know how to trouble shot the unit. Train tech on looking over everything before tell the customer the problems. Verify before you have your AC replaced or repair with this company.
I only gave them one star because I didnt have an option. I have never encountered such an unprofessional and unreliable service before. In the past my heating and cooling places were here within hours if an emergency occurred. We have been without air conditioning for 28 hours now. The customer service tech even hung up on me after I called multiple times wondering where they were. A tech will be paged is always their answer. I have two small toddlers and two dogs who have been suffering from the heat. We had to leave and go to a hotel. Are they paying for our hotel?? NOPE. This company does not care about its customers. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. Save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere!!!
We bought our new house with a unit installed. Our house warranty was for one year and the unit came with a 5 year warranty. Three weeks ago, 18 months after the purchase of our home, our unit stopped working. It had frozen over and it was getting into the midst of summer weather. Our house was 82 degrees after it being out for a few hours. We have two dogs and a young son so this was not ideal. After finding out that the builders warranty wouldnt cover it, we contacted Down East. They said it would be two weeks until they could get to us! Needless to say, we contacted our home builders and they somehow persuaded Down East to come out to us the next day...incredible! The tech was polite and explained that when they put these units in, they used the cheapest brain and that it was what stopped working in our unit. He replaced the circuit board and our unit was back to working like new (as it should be considering we have only lived in this brand new house for 18 months!). Although the part was under warranty, we still had to pay for $160 worth of labor! We accepted it because we needed the AC and at least we didnt have to pay for the expensive part..right? Then, this morning---three weeks after the brain had gone---we woke up to a hot house: 80 degrees at 8AM. The unit isnt frozen over this time but we dont know what the issue is. And after speaking with Down East, they will come out to fix it but guess what we have to pay another $160!!!! Im sorry, but if a brand new unit quits twice within a month I dont feel I should have to pay for anything the second time! On top of that, we cannot have any other company come to work on it because then it will void the warranty! This feels like a scam to us and we are so highly disappointed in the service of Down East.
Horrible service! Had service contract for several years and strangely enough they had large service technician turnover. As years went on, quality of service kept declining. Three years ago had technician tell me to replace unit immediately because its going to crash. Its still running. Last year technician told me a valve was bad, and I said Id wait until it goes before I replace it, he told me he already took it off. It was without my permission and I was outraged! He didnt tell me it was falling off, just hanging there, so I made a fool out of myself complaining to management. After the problem was corrected, they completed the check of the unit which is in the attic of the house. They failed to clean the drain line and glue a pipe joint together which resulted in the condensation pan filling causing water to leak from the unglued pipe joint onto the insulation and down onto the sheetrock causing it to mold and putting a bulge in the hallway ceiling. Luckily, we signed a contract with a different company whose technician found this stuff and corrected it. A few years ago I had them replace portions of attic components after a lightening strike and came home to no heat. They failed to thoroughly assess the damage which included the power plug which had to be replaced. Ive given this company plenty of chances to redeem themselves but incompetency is all too prevalent. AVOID THIS COMPANY!

I would give zero stars if I could. We moved into a new house with a brand new unit they installed. In the first year, we had to call them twice to come and fix it. Six months after the year warranty, it broke AGAIN. I called and was told it would cost $135 for them to just come and look at it. How is it possible for a new AC unit to break THREE times in 18 months??? Apparently there is something wrong either with the unit or with their service; they stand behind neither. I refused to pay a cent to them and called a local guy to fix it. I wouldnt recommend buying a house with their units or calling them for any reason.

Let me tell you what 14 years of loyalty gets you....So Down East people were here today. I pay for a yearly contract and they come 2x a year and check stuff out. So I needed freon and while I had no problem with the price of the freon but they wanted to charge me another 60 some odd dollars to put it in. Basically a service call and they are already here. I even asked for a little slack as I had been unemployed for 3 months due to my surgery. The guy that was here tried to ask but the folks that make the decisions said no dice. So having a contract doesnt help squat if A) they cant help you when you need it. B) they want to charge you to come out here when they are already here for the bi-yearly check-up. I am renting a home that is only 4 years old. When I moved in, I was without AC (At the end of May) for 5 days. The thermostat was working but the fan on the unit was not rotating thus only residual, warm air was coming out of the vents. My filters were not dirty but the technician that finally showed up claims the breakers were off. now here I am 19 days later, same issue. I leave my AC on 72/ Auto everyday and all of sudden it just shut off on saturday afternoon. This time I know for a fact that my breakers were not off because I checked them and reset them. Turned the thermostat off and on again. Filters are still clean. So the tech calls from a restricted phone number and leaves a message Sunday morning, (with no callback number!). Of course when I do call (around 1pm) the dispatch says that he is now booked and can not come out until the next day. My house is now 83 degrees downstairs and 89 degrees upstairs (where the bedrooms are), my two kids and I are frying and fans are not helping whatsoever. I ask, is if there anyone else?? No. Come 9 pm, I cant take the heat, I call back hopeful that there is an after hours service of some sort. Dispatch now says that they do not send anyone out past 9pm. UM EXCUSE ME?? So had I called at 8:30, then what? What happened when I called at 1pm?? Why did anyone not come out then?? Of course my leasing company does not have an emergency maintenance line and this is the only company I can use so all I can do is wait on Low- Down East. I called first thing the next morning at 0730, as I was told to do by dispatch and of course, they are booked up already, MAYBE they will get to me the next day. While I understand that I am not the only one with AC issues in this hot, hot summer, perhaps they should consider hiring more staff to meet the demand and actually fix the problem and not pacify it. This company is unsat.
Our upstairs air conditioning stopped working today in the home we are renting. Called our Property Manager who immediately called Down East Heating & Air Conditioning. As soon as Chris (the technician) arrived at our home he was very pleasant. After fixing our problem (draining our over flow), he proceeded to make sure everything else was working properly. Prior to leaving he explained everything and answered all of my questions. If I was a home owner I would definitely call this company again if I had any heating or air conditioning problems.

I had Kenneth install my new smart thermostat for me. I am not very tech savvy but he installed it and was able to show me how to use it.
I had the best customer service from Ken at Down East. He spent time explaining the options I had in replacing and upgrading my homes heating and A/C. I will definitely recommend him to all my friends.

I called 4/14 at 10:36am to set up a gutter est. A woman said Raymond handles that I will take a message and have him give you a call. 5 HOURS LATER he called and set up an apt for the following day at 1pm. 4/15 at 2:10pm he calls and said he is running a little late. (that is 70 mins late) I explained I had to go soon please leave the estimate. I left at 2:40pm (1 hours and 40 mins late) and when I returned no estimate. No show. I called the office the next morning to complain about the service she took a message for Raymond to call me. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, HORRIBLE COMPANY. Call Austin at Eastern Seamless Gutters. Much better service.

Friends called at 5pm with a newborn, they said they would call back and someone would be out to set it up. Nobody answered, nobody called and nobody provided any comfort.
I have (had) been a customer of Down East for seven years. Three years ago they installed a new heat pump/AC unit. They used to be a great company. Last night at 930 I called to report my AC was only blowing warm air. The answering service said no repairs past 9PM and he put my info down for a call back in the morning. No one called so I called them this morning at 745AM. They said someone would be out today and did I want to renew my service contract right now over the phone? My gut said no. I called back around noon and they said someone would be out today or this evening. So i called another company on here that had great reviews, all great and they werent kidding. That company was out within 3 hours and fixed it. Dont know what happened to Down East but its not like it used to be.When the Down East guy finally came- 10 mins ago- (in my anxiousness to get on with my day I forgot to call and cancel the appt and no one called telling me he was coming) he pointed out something that he thought was wrong with the unit and it has been like that since they installed the unit three years ago!!! He then asked if I wanted to renew my service agreement (used to be $125)Um...no thanks.
Weve done business with Down East before but this time I guess they are so busy that they dont need the thousands of dollars we have here waiting for them to replace our Heat Pump. They cant return phone calls either. If they are this busy with other customers then they are not doing anything and if they are really so busy they cant return our calls and take our money then they need to hire more techs. We are going to find a heating and ac company that would like to do the work for us and take our money. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE...wait, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE
Kenneth is the example of what a true, great hard working HVAC man should be. Always polite, down to earth, and will go out of his way to help you out. If in need of a true HVAC guy, just ask for Kenneth. Trust me.

Called the evening my A/C went out, said theyd make a ticket and informed me they would contact me the next day, never heard from them, called them back the next day, they said the technician would be out no later than 3 days after that, then received another call from them (acting like they were going to set up the appointment) and I informed them that a technician was supposed to come out in three days, they said theyd annotate that, call them back on the third day and told me that they had me scheduled for 4 days AFTER the third day. DO NOT USE.

Do not use this company! Very poor customer service. Al is the worst he’s quick to collect a check before service is complete, but now won’t return my call.
Came out very quickly and replaced air conditioner and ductwork. 6 months later we are painting and I take a vent down and see mold. Yes they left the old boots in!!!!. Every single vent covered with mold. instead of replacing everything which I was very clear I wanted. On the very positive side, I called them up and did not get any resistance from them whatsoever. The system does work great, and they were quick to fix the mistake they made. Every company you have will make mistakes, but only a great company will man up and own their mistake. No cost to me for them to come out and fix it. Thank you guys for being a reliable company. There are too many companies in Onslow county that try to rip you off. This company was the lowest quote I recieved, and they were out here 2 days later. Highly recommended!!!
Called for a simple inspection on a hvac. The person answering had no idea what price it would be but after mentioning that the inspector quoted 50 ish bucks...he was very quick to respond no, way more than that. Probably just $130 for the service call. They wanted $130 just to come out.
They installed our system when the house was built so I felt compelled to call them for service. After years of the downstairs unit not being able to keep up with summer heat, and them being unable to fix it, despite hundreds of dollars spent, Im going with another service. I would not recommend them.Update: Airflow Masters quickly found and fixed the problem. Call them before you call Down East.
I called last night to make an appointment for this morning on a Saturday. I never got a call back 14 hours later. I called back and asked again for service and still I did not even get a call back or an appointment scheduled, so I canceled my nonexistent appointment so I would not get charged by them.
I had a technician come out Monday (June 20th 2016) to service my AC, which stopped working. The technician that was sent complained that he had knee issues and would not climb into my attic to service my HVAC system. I was charged a service fee and told someone would call me later that day to be out to fix my issue. I was told when the technician returned, I would not have to pay another fee. After 24 hours, without a call, I called them back and was told they cant send someone out until July 7th 2016, even after I paid a service charge. Now I am left out of pocket $75, with no AC and two dogs suffering in the heat (one of which suffers from respiratory issues in hot weather). They refused to make any accommodations to hold to their technicians word. Garbage company, I would never use them again.
Would have a 5 but thier after hour cells are set up so they are blocked an cant return calls to land lines so we spent a really hot labor day weekend leaving land line number when we could have gotten service if we knew to leave our cell numbers came out as soon as we called Tuesday morning after they opened now we know so expect the service will be great from now onKenny was nice to explain the problem hopes this helps other customers out
I have never had to call a company more tines to get a technician out to fix something. I was told yesterday morning a technician with be here to fix my unit at some point this morning. It is now 6pm and still nothing. I have called them 3 times today and still cannot get a straight answer. Worst service I have ever had. Please do not waste your time and money to keep this business running!!!
The technician Ken arrived during the time frame given by the office, was able to quickly figure out the problem, even had replacement parts needed already with him. Excellent, professional service!

When my heater failed they told me they would be there first thing the next morning. After taking the day off, at 3:45 they stil had not showed up. The person answering the phone was rude and told me it was going to be at least another 3 hours...i called another company and cancelled them.
Were hours past what they said they would be here. Called receptionist she said it will take hours. Technician came in asked what was wrong told him. He said he had to go to the end of the road and the jerk left!!! Tried calling to complain and they ignored my call

There is no heat in the house, it is 60 degrees in the house currently and it is supposed to get down into the low 30s tonight; the technician tried to talk us into waiting until tomorrow to come fix the heat. Really? Would he let his two children stay in a house that cold? I highly doubt it!
I contacted this company two weeks ago providing them with detailed information regarding replacement of my HVAC system, which is failing. I never received a response, so I crossed them off as a potential contractor.
Very friendly staff, we called on Monday, came the same day and gave us an estimate on a brand new unit. Called them today to say yes we wanted it and they are here now putting it in
