There were a number of shops and mini-restaurants inside - plentiful buffets, a gift shop, and even an ice cream parlor. During lunch time, it can get pretty crowded. There were Tesla Superchargers and EV chargers in the parking lot. Railroad museum and handmade gift shops share the parking lot. Ice cream was delicious, and so thick that you could turn your cup upside-down and not have any fall out.
They have some pretty good food. Its mostly country kitchen foods like fried chicken, fried catfish, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rolls, and more. Their cracklin cornbread is wonderful. They have some really nice people working for them. Weve never had bad service here. The only downside is that they are really popular so sometimes they are very busy and it may take a bit to get a large party seated. I love to bring my mother-in-law here for the fried catfish. She always enjoys eating here.
I was passing through on a cross-country journey when my truck broke down 13 miles from this place. I came here stressed and a little tired. That all changed when I walked in and was greeted with smiles and warmth and hospitality. It was genuine. Everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. Kat is an amazing representative and ambassador for this place. Everyone who played a role in my meal, from the person bringing me lemonade and checking on me, to the young lady at the register, they were all just so genuinely kind. But, down to the nitty-gritty: the food was off the charts amazing! Down-home. Simple buffet-style and delicious. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! to the chef. If you’re passing through Jackson, Tennessee, or if you break down nearby, then you must stop here. 😂 You will not be disappointed. Thank you everyone at Brooks Shaw’s!
The food was delicious what your able to find. Its buffet style eating. Food trays were empty and refilling them seem to be very slow process. Meat trays were empty and appeared to have been for quite some time by looking at the bottom of the pans. Guess you should get there right when the doors open so you get a chance of getting any meats. No comments on recommendation.
I was so disappointed just because Google is not your personal site you should be updating it as it represents your business theres nothing on there about the buffet only being on the weekends that I saw. theres no sign in the lobby just a woman hollering and everybody that comes in are you here for breakfast and they say yes and she points over the other way and says we only have the buffet on Friday Saturday and Sunday and they all said the same thing that I did well thats why we drove over here. The big breakfast says $8 and something but by the time you leave with the cheapest if its almost $15 this place used to be the absolute best breakfast experience in the nation and now its just like everybody else they get too big and then take the cowards way out because of covid
If you are looking for a nasty, fast food, quick to eat, diarrhea causing restraunt then keep looking! This is not the place, If you are looking for a good old fashion country cooking this is the place you can stop looking.Food was delicious and good. We were seated promptly and served our drinks then went to town at the buffet. 10/10 would recommend to my only 2 friends.
This has to be one of the worst places that we have ever reviewed. Now given most of the staff was nice. And there is obviously different parts to this place. But as for the buffet part and most of the staff on that area of the place was really not friendly or even cared if they came by and checked on us or refill our drinks. Everything that was in there was hard as a rock other then a couple of the items. Which was kind of good I will have to say there homemade strogan off and catfish was the only eatable thing they had on the whole bar. And there was dirty dishes where you get the clean ones. They where charging people to come in to eat and they never filled anything back up and people was like hey where is the food and they just said oh we are closing in a couple of hours so we are not putting nothing else out in the empty trys and that is so wrong to charge people to eat if you are not going to refill the buffet if you are still open for 2hrs. People save your money do not eat here. Oh and the walls where so filthy look like they had never been clean befor with splattered food and everything else my daughter got mash potatoes and went to eat a bit and there was a ball of hair in it. This place is nasty we ask to talk to a manager and all they would tell us is there is no one available to talk to us.
This is one of those restaurants that really fit the theme of its name. And actually a little too much in a not so great way. Im all for the vintage and distressed appeal, but this place is too distressed for comfort in a eating environment. The brick flooring is something I find so hard not to look while Im eating, and the distressed benches are way pass my comfort. And as for the food... Well sometimes its good and sometimes is cold... If u want great HOT cheesy macaroni and cream spinach, than I suggest u come on a Tuesday but other than that, il pass. And staff is friendly.
This place is tried and true and Ive been going here since I was a kid 25 years ago. The buffet is always great and the servers never disappoint. My wife loves the old country store thats connected to the restaurant like your traditional Cracker Barrel. All I can say is its worth the drive and the main if not only place I like to eat in Jackson.
Buffet style, excellent variety, delicious cuisine. Many tables, slight wait less than 10 minutes. Home style food. Can get anything you have a desire to eat. Nutritious vegetables, variety of entrees and sides. Homey atmosphere. Busy restaurant but worth every dollars. Buffet $16.99. One of the best restaurants I have ever dined in. Every member of the family can find what they want here. This was my 1st time there and I loved it. I was there for lunch.
Candy from childhood here, candy cigarettes and gum cigars 🤣 Plenty others too. They have a southern style buffet restaurant, ice cream shoppe, and a pay by the plate to go style food spot too. Even has some heatable food options in the refrigerator and freezer there. They even have a little woolworth stool display, marking an important time in history. Theres also a gift shop. The place is worth stopping even just to checkout all the fun old antiques.
Food was awesome! Service was great. Best fried catfish and chicken is the best Ive ever had in a restaurant.
This is the 4th time I have been to Brooks Shaws Old Country Store and it has never been disappointing! Me and my family love to go here because of the food, family atmosphere, service, store, museum, train and country style of dining. The food is served buffet style and there is plenty to choose from. A variety for every picky eater where you cant miss something on the buffet that one would like. Our family loves to dine here because everyone is satisfied and there is enough room to seat us all at one time together; we have a big family! The service is very friendly and tend to your every need. They earn their tips because they are hard workers and they take good care of you. The store is special because they offer novelties, old fashion candy, ice cream, floats and etc. The museum is amazing and gives history of Brook Shaws and the surrounding areas history. There is much to see and learn. The train is really fun because you can take photos in front of it, as well as, Brook Shaws Store. Who doesnt love a good train ride? The Country style dining is A-1 because its like being at home around the family table at Sunday dinner regardless what day of the week you visit on! Love this place and the next time you visit Tennessee, check it out!
Great variety, something for everyone here! The food turnover is fast so the food is always fresh and tasty! Highly recommend!
My wife and I eat here every Sunday for breakfast. We look forward to it every week being Sunday is the only day I have off. I have not a bad word to say about this place or the staff. Working in a family owned food service business myself I know all the prep and hard work that goes into running a restaurant. So to see a couple of the reviews being negative simply tells me they know nothing about the business and or work side of it. And also the inspections that have to be passed in order to even operate. Anyone can sit and nit pick anywhere even your own kitchen at home. Its obvious that some are simply looking for something or anything to complain or be negative about. But we all know you can not and will not please everyone everytime. BROOK SHAWS OLD COUNTRY STORE,KEEP DOING WHAT YOURE DOING !!! LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO THE ENTIRE STAFF TOP TO BOTTOM !! WE THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU CONTINUALLY DO EVERY SINGLE WEEK ! GOD BLESS !!
We did not got to the buffet, we went to the meet and 2 side. We did not know where everything was, and the workers seemed to get agitated about the multiple questions we asked. Overall, the food was good.
Buffet was good but my girlfriend got food poisoning due to not very well cooked fried chicken- Hunter johnston
Got some Tn postcards. Had coconut candy. Surprisingly they had candy cigarettes. I havent seen since my childhood. Thanks Marilyns gifts. You were right. They did have postcards otherwise hard to find these days.
Great atmosphere! Food was fantastic. Will definitely go back when in Jackson.
Pretty good choice for breakfast, they have all the southern choices youd look for.Staff was friendly, coffee was good, all you can eat breakfast buffet. If you need to charge your tesla they also have that in front of the restaurant. All in all good experience, a little pricey if you get the buffet and you dont plan on eating much. If youre doing Keto definitely stop here for a low carb feast.I knocked off 1 star because this place can be a little hit or miss with food being on the bar. As pancakes go QUICK and sometimes they just dont have everything it seems. That being said Ive never experienced edge evening atmosphere to review that, but they have a stage for a band. Maybe someday.
Hated the breakfast buffet wasnt there and that they didnt have the strawberry pancakes anymore but the food is STILL worth it. The staff working on the other hand, ehhh... they were to busy talking about their plans for after payday that to let me pay them for our food. They also had me waiting for more than 15 minutes (sadly that isnt exaggerated) with only 2 people ahead of me. I came back to order just one pancake for my 2 year old, and I had to go remind them that I had paid for it. Offered strawberry jelly instead of the strawberries they used to carry on the breakfast buffet, so yeah... then there was that. Smh service was 1 star food was 5 star. Ohhhh then my 2 year old spilled her drink and NO ONE offered us any assistance with getting it cleaned up. My son had to go hunt down a mop while I cleaned my toddler up, and then I cleaned the spill up without a single employee EVER recognizing that a drink had even been spilled. Adding pics to show staff experience and us having to clean up our own spill.
Visited Sunday, 07/25, food was good, some selections better than others, fried cornbread excellent, fried chicken excellent, meatloaf excellent, candied yams excellent, shrimp and grits excellent, soups excellent. Id never been there before, had heard mixed reviews but was pleased with the food. So I give 5 STARS for the food. My issue is with the facilities, SHAME SHAME shame on you ... the ladies room was filthy, 5 stalls and two of them out of order, smelly, hot humid, dirty floor, outdated fixtures. Do your patrons a favor, clean your bathrooms every hour and fix what is broken. Better yet, update your restrooms, you can afford it. I give 1 star for restrooms, would give none but had to choose something.
I tried chocolate gravy for the 1st time. I had never heard of it before. Biscuits were great. LOTS of food on the breakfast. Food was delicious. Cute atmosphere.
Not a bad place to eat but not some place I can recommend. The price is good. Theres not much service. Its a small buffet so theres not much for a server to do.The taste of the food is not great but it is eatable. The access was easy.
Some of the best home cooked food I have ever found out side of my Mothers and Grand Mothers kitchen. The turnips and the white beans were seasoned to perfection. The catfish was coated and fried with cornmeal taste as if you had just reeled it in from the banks of the Mississippi River bank. I cant tell you about the desserts ( although they looked very good ) cause there was no room for them after such a wonderful experience with their buffet of such great food
Escaping Memphis while heading to Nashville trying to find something good to eat was a chore. Most of the restaurants in between had terrible reviews except for this little Gem . We were impressed from the time we pulled in. The food was awesome,. They had a nice variety of country style cooking on the buffet as well as a nice fresh salad bar and the most amazing blackberry and peach cobbler ever. If I ever come back through TN I will definitely stop again. Thank you for the great service, meal and atmosphere.
My first time here and the food was ok. We didnt eat 😕 what I spent. I spent more on candy for the kids, but it was nice. Customer service was okay as well.
Great find! Good food good service, good prices. Down home cooking! Be sure to check it out, if youre passing through
All I can review is the food, we went for breakfast really early around 8 am. We were immediately greeted and seated. The place gave me a since of grossness. I get it’s an “old-timey” place but the buffet area looked scary! I saw some very interesting items on the buffet line too. Like a vat of melted butter 🧈! The bacon had a weird taste, my grits were cold and they definitely use powdered eggs to make their scrambled eggs and any egg casserole. For the price they are charging and the huge dining areas they have, there’s a lot of profit not going back into the customer experience! I wanted some pancakes but a large group came in and got them all. These did look like they were fresh and being made on the griddle beside where you got them, but there was no person there making them. No pancakes 🥞 were replenished during our visit. We were also asked at the front entrance what drink we wanted. We were shown our table and the buffet. When we returned to our seats, still no drinks. And there were maybe 8 total diners in the restaurant at this time. A young lady said she would fetch our coffee (which also had an odd taste) then another woman said she was getting our coffee and we told her somebody already spoke to us and she rolled her eyes and said she’s handling it now! This scenario happened at every table sat after us😬😂. The staff were nice. But inept at times. The place looked grimy and gross. Our table faced an employee only area and we saw doors that had duct table on them for stability?I will return to see the shops and the trains, but not the restaurant.
Food is EXCELLENT!!! Great friendly waitresses. The only reason Im not giving it 5 stars is that the bathroom was highly lacking in maintenance & not clean. These days thats very important.
The food is down home country good. Not enough workers fir the Sunday lunch crowd!! Stood in line 30 minutes at a served buffet. BUT, the ladies’ bathrooms should be an embarrassment to the manager!! Broken and/or unusable for over a year. Please fix!!
We had already eaten somewhere else. But we wanted to shop a little bit. The young man at the register was 100% awesome. Do not remember his name but it was between 1 and 4 I think. You could tell he really likes his job.
The food is so good. Its usually got a nice crowd, but not over crowded. Very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Great place!!!
Always good food here. I tried the fried catfish and bbq, both was delicious. Many other choices plus a big salad bar. .
Service was exceptional and the food was without question some fin comfort/soul food. Highly recommended to all. Will return in the future next trip through.
We visited a few weeks ago, up in the area for a baseball tournament. The restaurant was very good for breakfast, service was great. Came back the next day with the kids and visited the ice cream polar, also a nice experience!
Buffet style food. Catfish, Brisket, Baked Fish, very good.Fried & Baked Chicken ok.Greens & White Beans, straight from the can.Baked Beans bitter and too sweet.Mac & Cheese tasted like glue and cheese, tasted bad.Cornbread Fritters no good, straight up bad.Banana pudding all wafers, no Bananas.Blackberry cobbler, great. So was it worth the $15 and tip I gave..heck no.
I stopped in for dinner during a layover in Jackson. The place is like a buffet version of cracker Barrel. YES a real buffet! I love fried chicken and it is outstanding here. Just like my Mom made with the right level of breading that doesnt retain pockets of oil. Many traditional favorites to choose from.. mashed and a couple other styles of potatoes, brown or white gravy, succotash, creamer spinach, yams etc... and a soup and salad bar!! There is also a store if youre into that. The staff and locals were all very friendly. The price was more than reasonable. I always pass the chains and look for the local places and this one was a real winner.
Pretty good buffet, only downside is they could have more choices
The food was good, but the floors were nasty. There are spiderwebs and dirt on all the vents.Right above the dining room tables. Ive never seen it like this before. Sad. Please bring it back up. Its a nice place.
The food is good hike cooking! The staff are wonderful, and make you feel like youre at a family dinner. I would recommend them to everyone, and I go every time I go to Jackson. ❤️
Really cool place with great southern food.It looks like a cracker barrel with real props. But it tastes like Grandmas cooking whether you get it from the buffet or you get it to go.If you are looking for a good wholesome meal without the randomness of a corporate restaurant then give this place a try.
This has been one of my familys favorite places to visit prior to the pandemic. Our recent visit on July 3rd, was not so enjoyable. The staff was very nice. We didnt have to wait long to be seated. Now the food has gone downhill. The sides taste like they were straight from a can. There was a constant wait for meat. There was fish, but people in my party had fish/seafood allergies. Some food had sat so long til it was dried out. There were no dumplings in the chicken and dumplings.someine brought out a new pan of them, but when they saw that there was broth left, they took the new pan back. People stood in line for 20 min waiting on fresh food. I really hope for improvement in the food area.
Love eating there..the staff is so nice and professional.
Food is so good it taste like my own soul food! I Came from Houston Texas. This was my first stop when I got to Jackson!!!
Could not get a seat in a reasonable time. Will try again if traveling thru area
I know they have excellent food, but we were shopping the costume jewelry couldnt really find anything within our money range.
Dont waste your time. Its like cracker barrel at closing. Poor selection. Food hardly edible. And way too expensive. Dont believe the pics. Theyre outdated. D-
Staying at a nearby motel within walking, the wife and I decided to mosey on over to Brooks Shaw’s Old Country Store for breakfast. Our 1st time being in there was a blast. It was or we choose the breakfast buffet. The setup to pay was a little different than expected.Anyway, the breakfast buffet, for us, was delicious, no doubt! Trust me, I stuffed my face with 3 plates/trips of food. Yes, it was way to much to say BUT it was worth it. The waitress limited me to 2 OJs which was odd but understandable. If I’m ever in this part of town, again, I’ll make an effort to stop in here for breakfast early an the morning.
It was really good! The food was great and the service was awesome too lol! My only complaint is that they only had buffet available and not from the menu dining! But it was really good though lol
Food was okay seems to have slacked off some in the years. Still a great place to eat when in the area. Recommend not going for Dinner as the prices are more expensive and not worth the price IMO.
The line wss long for dining. The store was very nice and had a great selection of goods. Their milkshakes and malts were delicious.
Great staff. Everyone was very polite and the Catfish, breads and sides were awesome! Wish I wasnt just driving through!
We accidently got off at the wrong exit and ended up at Brooks Shaws Old County Store for dinner. We were glad we did. The variety of food was great, I am a vegetarian and was able to have a fulsome meal. The buffet was continually stocked, and the service we received at our table was very attentive. We didnt lack for refills on drinks or anything else we needed. Glad to have made this accidental discovery!
The buffet is FANTASTICHomestyle, southern cooking that You dont have to slave over a stove to makeGreens, beans, fried bologna, fried chicken, catfish, red beans, hush puppies, corn bread, biscuits... To name just a little bitGreat staff too
Great food, good choices, fair price. In an historic setting with a store. It was a pleasant experience and a good price.
Meat loaf, squash, and broccoli cheese soup were really good. However, fried chicken and fish were extremely fried too long. Chicken was tough and inedible. Fish was dry. Maybe just a bad night for the guy on the deep fryer.
Casey Jones restaurant is a mighty fine place to enjoy with family and friends! Enjoyed celebrating my mothers 87th birthday 🎈💐🎂 this past Saturday!
Sure was a VERY LARGE DISSAPOINTMENT. Have been there several times, was always good. Place changed looks for the bad, and the food was barely eatable.
Has really gone downhill. Used to go out of my way to go there for their buffet. Since the last time I went there a year ago they cut the buffet down by at least 25%. The dessert area went for 45 minutes with 75% of the trays empty. Looks like they have changed their focus from food and unique candy to selling kitchy t-shirts. Will not return.
Home style cooking at a buffet. Friendly service. It was busy when we were there so some items on the buffet were out. That didnt bother me because there were still plenty of othet choices.
If I could give this no stars I would. Spent $42 and the food was not edible. When you think of southern food this place is FAR FAR from it. The green beans looked like they were canned then frozen and then left out all day. The macaroni and cheese tasted like paste, brown gravy was tasted like burnt salt and flour. The chicken noodle soup looked like it was mashed up by a toddler. Absolutely gross. We left feeling like we were robbed, and we were. I wish we could have gotten our money back.
Not impressed. I have not been to this restaurant for a long time because the food has not been that good to me. It has been almost 5 years. Went as part of a wedding party, we waited two hours to be seated and the food still was not that good. Jackson can we bring back a Golden Corral or something. It was ridiculous. At 20 dollars an adult, it could have been better, especially the service and management.
Pretty good, great catfish and banana pudding. The sweet tea is perfect. Bad spaghetti, the greens could have been better. Try it out! Its a great place, similar to Cracker Barrel.
My favorite place in Jackson. They make the best meatloaf! Our waitress was adorable and took good care of us. It is a good value and everything is delicious. Best green beans and new potatoes Ive had in years!
Good home-cooked food. Great service. Fun to look around while waiting.
This place was great. The food was delicious and the service was amazing, while the buffet wasnt as large as I was thinking it would be the food was worth the wait(about 10-15 minutes) and the sweet tea was well balanced, not to sweet
The Employees was very nice and willi ngly, also Food was Fresh and Delicious 😋. Will make a trip to come back. Loved it.!
Good food. Great customer service by all staff! Perfect accommodations for my clients with developmental differences!
Very disappointed in the lack of food kept fresh on the buffet. Had to keep waiting for all eggs, pancake & biscuits to be brought out when the serving dishes were empty. Also I had told all of our family from Kansas how great the chocolate gravy along with biscuit and gravy tasted only to find it was not even close to being flavorful as the previous visits!!! Wont waste the money to eat at your buffet in the future.
When I come home to visit I always have to go here! Always good
The food was ok. I did like the variety of items. But I never knew what the food was because the buffet isnt labeled for each item. I thought I found roast beef but upon eating the first bite, I immediately knew it wasnt. I spat it out and it was friggin beef alright but it was beef liver. Which I do not eat. The decor was the coolest part. And we had good service. But wont be stopping by there in the future.
The food at the buffet is okay. Not very fresh. But the docoration old fashion is well done.
This place is a Jackson staple. Great place to hit the buffet for some down home southern food.
Even with the ladies being short handed today. They acted professionally & keep their calm & they had to rush getting all the delicious food put out they remained friendly & professional. I was impressed with their poise.
Ohmydeliciousness!!! Such good vegetables! Have been looking for a great veg buffet and fired porkchops and found it! Some of the best food I have had PC (post covid) hands down. Will definitely return. The staff is super friendly. Won’t disappoint! Stop in and enjoy!
Food was excellent! If you leave here hungry, youre doing something wrong. Service was outstanding, they make you feel right at home. The gift shop is an awesome spot for anyone with a sweet tooth. The grounds, train cars and old buildings were a great place to explore. Dont pass up a chance to stop in!
Lots of goodies...great prices. Friendly and nice staff
It was decent food, really good banana pudding! The staff was very friendly and had great service! Loved that country feel and comfort food!
