Mailboxes has phenomenal knowledge and customer service, for both personal and commercial mailing/shipping. They always do their best to provide complete info on your available options and price points, and they are always courteous. They went the extra mile for me many times while I was in charge of mailing for a commercial employer, boxing and looking after very large quantities of outgoing mail, and frequently checking in so I wouldnt lose any incoming packages. I recommend them to everyone.

Not great for parking at, but a good business for mailing needs. I rented a mailbox, and can call in to see if I have mail, which is cool. And my Amazon packages are safe, they text me when I have a package, can sign for deliveries for me. I work nights and sleep days, so its a nice convenience.

A VERY helpful staff that is willing to get you the best rates on shipping small and large items alike. They offer a wide variety of shipping options, including UPS and Spee-Dee (cheaper for Midwest shipments.)

Mailboxes has been a good option for shipping with FedEx or UPS, or shipping internationally--and has been a resource with useful advice when Ive had international packages go astray. Additionally, especially if youre buying in bulk, they can be a good source locally for affordable shipping supplies. Im more than happy to pay a premium for a speciality shipping service at a downtown address.However, the Mailboxes markup on USPS parcels appears to be more than 100%. Recently, I sent about 60 packages to students for an online course Im teaching at the Iowa City USPS office, with an average price of about $5.50 per parcel. All but one parcel arrived, so I re-mailed it at Mailboxes for convenience. The Mailboxes upcharge on the package made it twice as expensive to mail--about $5 more for a domestic parcel that was the same weight & dimensions as Id mailed through USPS earlier that week. In fact, Mailboxes USPS ground pricing make the USPS ground rate the same as other private services, like Spee-Dee and FedEx. So, I opted for a different, more expensive service than USPS ground--hoping that this would ensure delivery the second time. The package didnt arrive by its ETA, and the student still doesnt have their supplies. At the point of sale when I was mailing it, I asked the employee why the USPS ground markup was so high--about 100%. The employees response was I just work here. I also work a sales/customer service job, and I dont think it makes someone a difficult customer if they ask for a reasoning behind a price--in fact, customers often ask, and we usually have a logical reason--for example, sometimes the manufacturer sets the price for a product rather than our individual store, or a service is priced the way it is because we try to do things right rather than quickly, etc. But were not selling a service from a government agency at what appears to be a 100% markup, without being able to provide the rationale. The USPS locations at Hy-Vee dont charge a markup on USPS services, and I dont understand why Mailboxes isnt forthcoming about this markup or why its necessary for their business model.

The location is very convenient. Very close to downtown. But there are not plenty of parking spots. So walking there from anywhere close to downtown would probably be a better idea.

Shipped 2 packages here one of which was international. I went in with the stuff and 2 addresses. The staff was helpful my stuff got packaged and was sent out effectively. I will be shipping anything I have from there in the future. Pricing varies depending on where you are sending stuff obviously.

First time shipping here I Shipped a 800 dollar camera from here that I sold on eBay and it never left the facility. My mistake was not putting enough insurance to cover for the lost package, since I’ve never had a package get lost I didn’t think it would get lost. So now they are only offering me 80 dollars back. Something fishy is going on there. Never shipping a package here again. I thought it was weird that the guy opened up my camera and checked Thoroughly what was really in there. And since he knew I didn’t put insurance on the package they are probably the ones that took the package. Place is a scam.

Friendly and helpful staff. But their charges are ridiculously high. For a $40 international mail they charged $80. I was not using any personal or business account and this was one single document.

Every time I go in everything goes really smoothly and quickly. The staff always knows what they are doing and even goes above and beyond to make sure they are sending it correctly. I was sending something internationally and I didnt know how the address would work and Joseph called the post office to make sure we were putting it through right. It made me feel a lot better about it getting there.

I not only send a decent amount of mail and parcels globally, but I also deal with lots of last minute projects. Mailboxes is always helpful, open just for those panic moment when I need them, and has knowledgeable, courteous staff. Ever visit is efficient without being rushed, and every question is answered politely (without being insufferably sweet), no matter how silly.They have packaging, stamps, PO boxes, and more--there isnt much I cant get there, and I definitely dont miss the Downtown Post Office since the service here is so much better!

They claim to offer FedEx Ground on their website, but apparently theyre really just a drop off location. If you dont already have a shipping label, you get turned away. They just give you some nonsense about FedEx Express vs. FedEx Ground, you should have called before showing up, etc. If you cant show up with a package, an address you want to ship it to, and a FedEx account to charge it to, how is it any different from a drop off location without any staff? Apparently you either have to call and get a shipping label, arrange a pickup, or drive 20 miles to the Cedar Rapids location. Pain in the you know what.

Like another users review, I also see surcharges in the $25 dollar range. I wish they were more transparent in what the actual cost of shipping was and what the cost of their services are. If Im shipping something and postage is $20 dollars but it ends up costing me $45 dollars then I would like to know what Im paying for.However, theyre so nice and friendly that I cant really give them less than 3 stars. I just dont think their services are worth $25 for 5 minutes of assistance.

Efficient, helpful, fast. Had one sticker shock moment when shipping a computer screen/monitor to North Carolina (I asked them to package it), but otherwise usually reasonable and quick.

Beware. This place is a rip-off. They charge a big premium on top of actual rates. They quoted me $14 on a priority mail package. I mailed that same package with that same service at the Hartig Drug Post location for $8.

That said, their habit of asking whats in the package youre planning to receive is troubling - my mail carrier doesnt get to ask that question, why do you think you have a right to know?At $5 a received package its not an overwhelming cost, but again - stop asking whats in the box, because its none of your business.

Every time I come here the interaction is like heres my stuff, please mail it, and they say, great, thatll be $x, and I pay them and walk out. I dont even have to have packaging, I can just come in with a pile of stuff to ship.Theyre always friendly. You should come here if you need to ship something. Just walk in and youll be out of there five minutes later.

I had to send a letter the other day, these guys were more than helpful, they offer stamps not in bulk which was nice, and they helped me get everything I needed done quickly and with a smile. They also ship large items and are fairly priced.

This is a nice place to go for cardboard when you need a piece cut to specific dimensions. They also have tape, envelopes, boxes on display for you to choose from.

Their people are very nice. They keep in their system customer information including name, home address, cell phone number, home phone number without customer consent. It is very convenient but very expensive. They charged me $60.40 instead of USPS online price of $50.75. My brother got charged about $40 instead of about Fedexs $22. Overrall It is good place to drop off but not mailing because of the overcharge.

Dropped off a Fed ex Pre labeled Package on December 21st with very expensive merchandise in it. After 5 days the package is nowhere to be found, Fedex customer service tells me that they never received the package from them and mailboxes of Iowa city tells me that they have shipped it however they do not have any proof. Horrible experience and stubborn staff, unwilling to help.

Tried to send something FedEx Ground. They used another delivery service who couldnt find a valid address. So it cost me $60 to have them overnight it after it came back to them. If I wanted to use Jeffs Delivery Service, Id be doing business with them directly.

Overpriced shipping. Ive gone here twice to ship packages and each time, their rates were much higher than shipping online or at carrier specific locations. The first time, I thought maybe it was a fluke. They wanted $10 more to ship a box via FedEx, so I used one of their computers to print my own label from FedEx at the cheaper rate. I tried them again. The second time, they wanted $25 more to ship Spee-Dee than the rate listed by Spee-Dee Delivery. Both of my boxes were ready to go, so I didnt use their packaging services (which might explain the much higher fee). They are friendly so a surcharge of $2-3 would be worth it to avoid places with longer lines, but consistently charging $10-25 extra will keep me from going back.

Any mail carrier can be used out of there. They have cardboard boxes too.
