Has anyone lately been able to reach him?? I picked up my vintage Kenwood KR-9050 receiver from him a couple months back and just found out the inner case is missing!! It certainly won’t do anyone else any good but I DAMN sure need it!! I know it’s just sitting on a shelf and no one has a clue what it goes to!I’m 200 miles away and even attempted driving to get it but no one at business and no one answering phones or emails!!C’mon Jim!!!It looks just like this one in pictures!

Should be negative stars for this place. Took in a turntable for repair. Paid $85.00 bench fee and was told He needed another $190.00 to fix it. When I got it back, Jim had removed all the damping fluid thus letting the tone arm/cartridge slam down on album. The turntable speed was oscillating and never able to turn consistently at 33rpm. Tone arm tracking was completely out of adjustment. Turntable came back with more issues and problems than when he received it. Jim in a very rude response said the issues are not covered under his warranty. None of these problems/issues were present when I took it in, only after Jim fixed it. Had to take it to Electronics Center in Overland Park Ks. to get it repaired and working right. Lesson learned...

These guys are amazing. They have repaired multiple pieces of equipment that other repair shops said were unrepairable. They brought back my equipment to better that original. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves the vintage era as I do. My Sears and Roebuck audio equipment (unusual off brand) has been siting for years while I searched for someone that would, could, and wanted to fix them. A++ guys. I will soon return to them with more unusual and more important family heirlooms that only the good lord and I are allowed to touch. Go check them out.

I had a Pioneer SX-850 receiver that had stopped working, and was having issues before it had finally went down completely anyway. I took it in to Jim and left it with him for a complete rebuild. It was costly, but ended up being worth it. This thing sounds so much better than it ever did, completely functional with no noise or static in any knob or button and the bass is so rich now! These old Pioneers from the 70s deserve to be preserved and maintained and Jim understands that. I was not in a hurry to get it back as it wasnt being used anyway, but it is an item to be truly cherished at this point for another 30 years.

Horrible to work with. This guy is one of the last shysters in the electronics business. No shop organization, he might loose your item, it might get shuffled to the back of the line for months at a time, or might even fix the wrong thing. Does only what is needed to get your piece working rather than what is best for you and your items long-term future. Overcharges customers on repairs. Steer clear. You have been warned...

You have an F rating on the BBB. The phone number you give on this site gives recording that call didnt go through, please try again, and you wont even give unrepaired equipment back to owners. Why is it so hard for you to treat people fairly? If you arent willing or able to do that at least turn the equipment over to someone who will return it to its owners. In effect you are stealing money and equipment from people just because they tried to do business with you.Jim and Vintage Turntable & Stereo is the most incompetent repair service I have ever dealt with. I asked Jim to replace the phono power transistor on my stereo amplifier and fix a CD player that wouldn’t eject. After 2 months I called to check progress. Jim said he was having schematic issues on the amplifier and hadn’t put the CD player on the bench yet. When I asked if he would be able to repair the equipment, he rudely told me he would fix them and call me when they could be picked up. He never called. After 8 months I didn’t care about the $85 bench charge on each piece he ripped me for. I just wanted my equipment back. That took 5 trips because he couldn’t find my items. He even tried to convince me on the second trip that the turntable he set on the counter was mine. I reminded him that I came to pick up my amplifier and CD player. I also had to point out to him that it was not my name he had taped to the turntable. He said it would be another week before he would have my amplifier. The next week the amplifier was sitting on the counter with the cover missing and he didn’t know where it was. He said I had to come back in 2 weeks. So all he was able to do was take the cover off the amp and lose it. The CD player never got on the bench. This cost me $170.00 and 8 months to show me what a complete idiot could do to my equipment. Never again will I let this counterfeit outfit touch anything.

Brought them a sansui 9090db stereo receiver that had recently stopped working. Was quoted the work in a weeks time and repairs done 3 days later. They talked me through all the work they did and even gave a copy of the notes they took while working on it. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable people who have a passion for the work they do! Pricing is reasonable and they gave me an amazing warranty on their work. It’s hard to find a business that will stand behind their work and are meticulous to chase down any problems your equipment has.

I visited this shop to have an early 90s 440 watt Technics reciever/amplifier repaired. They took a full year and over $200 to diagnose and test the unit just to come to the conclusion that it was not repairable. When I finally received one (1) phone call (the only correspondance I received from them) I was asked if I would like to leave them with the unit so they could scrap it. All other correspondance was by me visiting the shop to check up with them. I found out they had my name spelled wrong and the wrong email address, but the correct phone number. I asked for a PARTIAL refund, but it was denied on the grounds of We have over 6 hours of work in this unit. Over one year? Thats not my fault.

If it allowed me to rate lower than 1 star, i would (and i have NEVER rated any company or service lower than 4 until now).I bought a used turntable for my son in Feb for his birthday in April and called them about taking a look at it as it was skipping. The owner, Jim told me they would have it done in a 3-4 weeks in plenty of time for his birthday.I dropped off the turntable and paid my deposit, then they heard nothing for several weeks so i finally started calling to check on status only to find out they didnt even look at it for the first 4 weeks. (Additionally, even though his website says they accept credit cards, he makes you pay cash for your $60 deposit to look at your turntable)After multiple phone calls and voicemails, they finally looked at it, diagnosed the problem and indicated it would take another 3-4 weeks to fix. So again i waited. After over 8 weeks and no updates / responses unless i called to ask, i finally got the turntable back only to have it stop working within the first week after a nearly $200 overhaul. When i paid for the first fix, they indicate they fully stood behind all of their work and that it was under warranty for life. When i contact the owner, Jim, about the issue he put me off multiple times, did not return emails or phone calls or weeks. Finally i reached him by phone and said if i drop it off, he should be able to take a look and see whats going on within a week or two but that it likely wasnt going to be covered by warranty.STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

I brought them an amp that worked but had a light crackle on one channel. I paid the $100 deposit and left it with them they told me it would be about 3 weeks. After 4 weeks I called and got no response. A week after that I stopped in and was told by a guy that said he was a new tech there that he would check on it and get back with me on Monday. I didnt get a return call that time either so I called later that week and was told they would get to it soon. They finally called me at the very end of the week and told me that the amp no longer had any output and that it needed a new transistors and capacitors. They said it was going to cost $395 in addition to the $100 deposit. That is substantially more than its worth so there was no way I was going to spend that kind of money. I ended up going and picking it up from them. In the end they had it for 6 weeks charged me $100 and returned it to me in worse condition than when I dropped it off.

If I could give a negative review I would. I called to ask how long his backlog was and to get an idea on cost before driving an hour to bring in my table. He then abruptly hangs up. I call back to discuss how unprofessional and rude this is and said this is exactly why your reviews are terrible. He proceeds to yell at me for wasting his time. He kept treating me as though I was looking for a speed job and he was all about quality. I cant see how that is true when he clearly isnt quality in how he treats people, how can one trust that he is quality in how he treats equipment. Ridiculous. I cannot believe the nerve of people to treat others like garbage.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HIM AND HIS BUSINESS. If you cant give a potential customer your time over a phone call to discuss the issue first, I wouldnt trust you to repair anything of mine. Rudest person. My brother called him to ask him a question before driving hours (we live in Springfield) to bring it in and the guy rudely told him he doesnt do that and doesnt have time to do that. Well, he is eventually going to have all the time in the world if he treats all his customers like that because he wont have business. I hope he goes out of business (and he probably will with the way he treats people). My brother would give him -10 stars if we could. After reading the owners comments on other bad reviews, its very easy to see that he doesnt care because its always the exact same response. Pathetic excuse for a business, and this is just from our horrible experience from the FIRST phone call to this company. Do yourself a favor and take your beloved pieces somewhere where the people who own/work there treat people with respect.

ALL I WANT IS MY EQUIPMENT BACK.....DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO HIM. As the others are saying, I would give negative stars if I could. I brought in a turntable and receiver that my Dad bought when he was in the Navy during Vietnam.....this was 2 YEARS AGO. I was wanting to get them fixed up so I could use it for the next 40+ years that he did. The turntable needed some cleaning and a new stylus and he was able to get it back to me after a couple months......I still dont have the receiver back. He is never at his shop during posted hours, the phone doesnt even ring, so goes straight to voicemail. One message on the voice mail says that they will only respond to emails. Every time I talk to him on email or on the phone(if I can ever talk to the man in person) he says it will be done next week, that started over a year ago.I probably will never get back my receiver, so my hope is that nobody else will get any equipment lost to him. I never leave reviews, but I really dont know what else to do now.

Horrible, terrible experience. Over a year ago I brought my reciever in to be repaired, it quit picking up radio stations, couldnt give me an estimate, just demanding a $ 100.00 deposit to diagnose the problem. Said he was 7-8 weeks behind. That my reciever, pioneer sx 1080 was one of his favorites went on and on about how good he was. And how many times he has worked on similar projects. That anything could be wrong with my reciever. That he has completely restored many of these. That a complete restoration would cost me approximately $ 650.00. I asked him if I paid upfront how long would it take him. He said 3 - 4 weeks, so stupid me paid. 4 weeks later I call, no answer, after numerous attempts I finally go to his shop and he has no recollection of his agreement with me. Doesnt remember me and cant find any information on me paying upfront. I produce my receipt and he makes a copy. Every 2 weeks I would try and contact him, no answering the phone. So I go back to the shop and he again doesnt remember. I again get my receipt, he again makes a copy and tells me to quit stopping by, that hell call me when its done. A couple months later I tried calling, no answer. So I again go to the shop. One of his employees looked around and found my reciever, it now was missing knobs, had scratches and bent controls. The employee said that he was going to work on it then. A week later I tried calling and no answer, I went there again door was open and nobody answered to my yelling so I left. I returned a few times and finally catch up with him. I ask for a refund so I can take it somewhere else, he refused saying he had too much time invested, that he is 90 percent done. That Ill be put on his priority list. 3 months later he still had not contacted me. I started going to the shop once a week, every time I was given an excuse. Finally, one year and a few days later he calls me and said its complete. I go pick it up, its still missing knobs, I said it wasnt missing anything when I brought it to him, he said that I can get them on Ebay. I was upset needless to say, he also said he was going to replace the antenna, he didnt.and some of the station markers were broken. I took my reciever home, hooked it up and it has the same issue as it started with, now worse because of the cosmetic issues. Ive been trying to contact him since and ofcourse I cant. Not only was I lied to, I think he used my reciever as a parts. Heed the warning ! I am going to file charges against him, I cant believe he doesnt offer me a refund !

So I read all the reviews and should have followed the advice of all the horror stories but there were a few good stories but I failed to look that most of them were from a year ago ......... Here is my story ... I took my Technics 1200 turntable in to Vintage to get a pitch adjustment replaced before Thanksgiving of last year I already knew it needed to be replaced but Jim insisted he could repair it and charged me 85 dollars to do a diagnostic on something I already knew what was wrong I also took my Phase Linear Amp because I had one side shorting out so to make a long story short I paid for all the parts to repair my turntable and picked it up 2 days ago on Friday keep in mind he has had my equipment since before thanksgiving of last year when I went to pay and he tells me the credit card machine is broken so I write him a check which he knows is good since he already cashed my 1st check for the diagnostic I get my turntable home and I am missing my platter and my counterweight for the tone arm and my friend opened up my Amp and said there is NO WAY he checked out this amp if he had he would have seen it was a loose connection that just needed to be soldered THIS GUY IS TERRIBLE PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE LISTEN TO ALL THESE BAD REVIEWSTHEY ARE SPOT ON This guy is a Con Artist

I brought my Sansui g7700 in for repair in June of 2016. Every five or six months I would stop by to check on status and the answer was always parts on order. In mid 2017 I stopped in and again got the same answer and Jim basically jumped down my throat for questioning the length of time to get the parts. I finally ran out of patience when toward the end of last year Jim told me he would call me with update in 30 days. I never received a call. A few days ago I went in and picked the unit up and when I got home I noticed that the paperwork that was attached had all the dates and work that had been done . Supposedly some parts had been ordered back in 2016. Then last December Jim had listed that the unit had multiple issues and he could not fix it and the customer was a prick. I don’t think I was supposed to get this sheet with service history...anyway I think this man is a con artist and worse and anyone who takes a piece of equipment in for repair, good luck!

First of all I dont feel that this wanna be repair place business deserves one star but I had to put at least one or I wasnt allowed to put anything. Secondly, When tried to call this place no one answered the phone and the message machine had a recording of Jim saying something about his business but the guy sounded like he had a mouth full of worms 🐛 .Long story short as possible. I brought my Technics turntable in to repair a short in the cord on the arm of the needle, I could have repaired it myself but I had no free time anyway, only one side of the speakers would unless you jiggled the cord in back then it would work off & on . I speak with two guys and they say yeah it sounds like electrical power harness and possibly replace needle cartridge If they do this it will cost me $180.00, I say ok but in order to look at it I have to give them $60.00 cash up front no checks, no debit so now I got to go and find a bank to get cash and if I let them do the work theyll take the 60.00 off the cost of total repair & labor . Almost two wks.later Im askin for my turntable and say I thought you guys were gonna call me ??And Jim says stop your complaining Im busy you want me to take off parts I put on ... at this point Im pissed ! But I want my turntable backI show up at his business jims there and he keeps his mouth shut for me to pay and says we changed harness and took apart electrical connections on needle assembly an cleaned them up I get the turntable home and it has a high pitched sound that it didnt have before an the needle arm wouldnt track the album at all I called them back no answer they know my number is why Im sure I get no answer . They suck !!! Big time . My next complaint is to the BBB
