Normally, I would have selected 4 or 5 stars. Most of the staff at the May building go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. However, the air conditioning in the fitness center and all of the floors above has not been working for over a month, and the Y has no intention of fixing it. Why would they? They have our money. Yesterday, the fitness center had no air flow at all, and it was at least 90 degrees in there. People where absolutely drenched in sweat in minutes. It is not safe for people to be working out in a 90 degree room with no air flow and ventilation in a pandemic. I guarantee if the air-conditioning to the mangers office was affected, it would already be fixed. No thanks, I am canceling my membership and going back to the Rec. I do not make enough money to pay for a membership I cannot use.
This place is good for swimming and most of the time you get to get in the hot tub and it’s so hot and fresh. I really like this place!
I see other reviews here talking about disrespectful staff, yet I have never encountered this myself. All very friendly. I see people talking about old equipment, it all looks to be in good shape to me. Clean, functional, mostly modern. I see people mentioning the price, which seems completely fair to me. I make minimum wage and can afford to go here and pay my monthly locker fees. You have child care on site, 2 pools, multiple saunas and locker rooms with free showers. A fitness room, free weight room and very cheap tanning compared to other places. 2 basketball courts, and more and more. Of planet fitness is your type of gym go there, where you can eat pizza while you lift and take selfies like you actually work out. In 3 short months of going here and some nutrition tweaking, I have built my body to the biggest/strongest it has ever been. The money saved by showering here also cuts into the membership fee quite a bit. One thing I cant out a price on, the inner joy I have of self transformation, the betterment of my body and mind.Oh, and to the two kids who were in the free weight room complaining below, rules are RULES. If you were hurt then the Y would be liable because of your age. You dont know what you are doing with serious and dangerous equipment, period. Follow the rules. Why are your parents allowing this anyway? Responsible, knowledgeable adults have accidents in weight rooms from time to time, it happens. Stop complaining, and ask a trusted adult to accompany you. YOU, complaining about YOU, breaking the rules, and the employee, doing their JOB, is quite hilarious.
I used to go here when I was younger and in elementary school (im in highschool now) The staff here are so funny and nice. Btw I miss you Mrs. Wendy and Mrs. stephanie! I honeslty miss it there and the field trips that we went on in the summer.
The staff and what they are doing (providing great environment for fitness for people of all backgrounds, including handicap/disabilities) is great. The staff and students etc on staff are great, equipment is great. Hours could be better. But I did have one issue, I attempted to change my auto withdraw to new bank account and they failed to make the changeover and I got charged a late fee when the withdraw hit a different account. The young person on staff was having issues at the time entering the checking account into the system and asked the manager for assistance. The manager on staff at the didnt provide assistance to him. She said You better get this right or he will get charged a late fee and will not be happy So she knew things were not being done right but didnt do anything to correct matters. I believe this is not good management/leadership and good customer service. She was also disrespectful to me, didnt make eye contact, and was basically judging me because I didnt have a debit card on me yet for my new checking account and provided a blank check to setup auto withdraws to my new account. This rating is in regards to that one manager and not the gym in general which would get a 4 plus. Also their wifi is poorly secured, I would not use it or let your teenagers use it due to hacking risk.Posted after couple months reflection. So the real so the real issue with the previous review was not the people it was the issues with implementing new technology. And Ive been going there continuing since the previous review. Based on that experience its been very happy and its a great place to work out and they really do a lot of good work. The people at the desk or always friendly they offer a lot of free classes, personal training, and not once has anyone stolen anything from my locker, even though I forget to bring my lock alot of times.
I have enjoyed being there. The only thing that I don’t like is there is not much room to just go in a pool and just relax. The inside pools are mainly for lap swimming.
8/2 non-masker to masker ratio and no social distancing
Billing practice is terrible. I was mislead on the billing. Will never renew my membership with Ymca. This the most expensive membership in the tristate to boot. Plus IvesIve not had any good experiences here. Equipment is run down and old. The staff isnt friendly. They seemed bothered anytime you speak to them or ask questions. No one is EVER wearing a mask. Minus one staff member I observed wearing a Trump mask. Overall only thing they have going for them is they have pool. Its just not worth it.
The lady lifeguard was rude n kinda loud to my daughter for not giving enough time before she went down the slide in the pool. My daughter didnt know and all she had to do was let her know instead of jumping on her. After that she stared at us and knit picked. Ruind our whole time there. Power trippin or something. All other staff are cool tho
Great place to workout, has something for everyone!!
The water FEELS GREAT!!!and its the Y.
Great facility - large and older, but well kept-up. Tons to do - pool, weights, cardio, basketball, and much more. If it is your first time here, navigating the building can be confusing - it is like a big maze.
I’m 13 years old and my friend is 13 too. We went to the workout room and the workers were laughing at me while I was trying to workout. Then one worker came over and said you have to be 13 to be in here and I told them I was. Then another worker came over and said for me to write my name so I did. They looked me up and came back over and said I have to be 14 to be in here and I have to be accompanied by an adult at all times in the whole building. But my friend is 13 too but they didn’t ask her about her age because she’s tall and I’m very short. I used to love that place but some of their workers are disrespectful.
If your looking for a personal trainer who is sweet but will push you to your full potential there is only one person to go to and that is Simin, when I first started attending the Y, I was not happy about my body but in one short month I seen results that I could only dream about. I told Simin the specific body goals I wanted and with hard work and training with her 2 times a week along with following her meal recommendations I seen results! I am so happy about my body, I am now confident and finally awaiting wearing a two piece this summer instead of avoiding it! Thank you Simin!
Its pretty expensive and the hours have shortened by an hour ealier closing time. Day care is only operated from 8-12 noon on Saturday. Wonderful staff though.
I am 13 year old. They have never had a problem with with me going in and out of the Y. This is because I’m tall so they don’t think I’m younger than 14. (You have to be 14) well I came with my friend and her little brothers and mom. She 13 as well both same grade (8th) we go to HEMS. We’re going to HHS next year. They came up to her and made her put her name on a piece of paper and told her she had to be 13 well she is. Then proceed to come back up to us and say she had to have her mom here with her and had to be 14, this is because she’s short so they noticed something was up. The second they saw us walk in they started laughing at her. The whole time we were in there. We left she’s very mad and the employees are very disrespectful.
Every time I bring my children to swim the lifeguards are ALWAYS on their cell phones. If a child was about to drown they would be oblivious to it. I bring it to the other staffs attention every time but I dont think they do anything about it.
They have a good list of things to do but the staff and management are very poor. The staff is very incompetent and the older folks that go to the facility are very rude and hateful. If you do not live up to their standard or look like they do, you feel like an outcast. The young kids that work the desk up front are also rude and snobby and do not care about their job. They are there for a pay check. A majority of the lifeguards for the pool, I would NOT trust my life or a loved ones life with them in case of emergency b/c they do not look prepared for any accident. It needs updated and cleaned in a bad way. The fees for this place are too high for the lack of quality.
Got the Summer pass falling in love with the place now
Stephanie Meade is the worst employee. My wife canceled her and our kids membership because of this horrible woman. Literally take your business anywhere else other than here. Rudest staff in Huntington.
Great place to workout and have fun with the family!
Excellent everything in great shape, staff great.
Awesome facility, very clean.
Needs major updating and new equipment. Very friendly staff
Great
