Dr. Chepke and his staff members have been responsive to our needs, quick to understand concerns and very efficient. Dr. Chepke has a wonderful style and interaction with my adult son. He has helped him tremendously. We are very thankful for his expertise and intuitive style that has been very effective with our needs.

Dr. Chepke is the only psychiatrist that I have ever seen who takes lots of time with his patients, addressing his clients concerns by formulating a custom plan for them, instead of my previous experience of psychiatrists who just keep trying standard meds, adding more to counteract others, regardless of their clients specific needs and concerns. Dr. Chepke researches each and every medication and therapy that he prescribes and recommends, AND he figures out a way to get that medication to you if you are, like I was, with inadequate or non-existent health insurance. His staff not only researched my insurance to see whether my medications were covered, THEY applied for financial assistance programs through the pharmaceutical companies on MY behalf. When I suddenly started having an inexplicable response to a medication I had been taking, Dr. Chepke listened to my concerns and acted on them. He suggested a test that would determine how my body metabolizes certain meds to better understand my bodys tolerances. He let me make the decision about it, since I was a bit cautious. After I decided to have the test, his staff again contacted my insurance company to see what my co-pay would be, and then applied for financial assistance on MY behalf. I am now on one daily med that has quite literally been a life-saver, and doesnt cause the fatigue thats exacerbated by my neurological condition. With every previous psychiatrist, it seemed that prescribing meds was just guesswork.Dr. Chepke checks in with me, he answers questions immediately, he can always make time for me in his schedule, and when I was without the means to pay for his services and without health insurance, he reduced his (already reasonable) fee without my even asking for a discount. Because of this, I could always see him, even when I found myself without adequate work.I cannot recommend Excel Psychiatric strongly enough. A friend of mine raved about their services and sent me their way. She was absolutely right. Im never going anywhere else for psychiatric care.

He, by far, is the best psychiatrist I have seen in my 20+ years of suffering with depression. When I came to him, I had been severely misdiagnosed and felt worse then I had ever felt in my life. Thankfully, he straightened everything out in a very short amount of time and I feel so much better. The office staff has been very nice and when I email them with a question or concern I ALWAYS receive an answer with 24 hours or less. I’m very grateful for them.

Ive been a patient now for some years, first in Kannapolis and second in Huntersville. Dr Chepke (and his team) have always been caring, responsive and thorough. He really knows his stuff - is extremely knowledgeable about the drug therapies available to patients but treats his patients with the utmost respect - explaining any treatment and the reasons for/against as well as being very clear on timeframes for seeing any benefit, what other options there are, etc. He talks to his patient like they matter and we do. There can sometimes be a wait to see him - but that is inevitable given what his practice does and that some patients may be having a rougher time of it on any particular day. Hes never let me down and Ive had better all round service from Dr Chepke and his practice than anywhere else in this country over the past decade. He has never over medicated and really strives to understand his patients and their unique needs.

AVOID THIS DOCTOR IF YOU CAN. I was a patient of Dr. Chepke for more than two years with good rapport and no interpersonal issues or behavioral issues on my part. Then I told him my anxiety was getting really bad and he prescribed an extremely low dosage of klonopin which he promised could help me feel better almost immediately. It did nothing at all, and I began to panic. In this state of panic I read the wrong medicine bottle label for a different anxiety medicine which instructed me to take up to three as needed for anxiety per day, when I was only meant to take 1 klonopin. When I realized this mistake I started to freak out even more and I was having a full-blown panic attack. I called their office right away and told them I had accidentally overdosed and was concerned, but also that the medicine was doing nothing to make me feel less anxious. The receptionist promised that they would get back to me soon, but they didnt call me back. Over the next couple of days I called a few times, trying to get assistance or something to help me stop worrying. The receptionists continued to make empty promises about calling me back and they never did. On the third day I went in to the office in person and calmly explained the situation to the receptionist and asked if I could talk to the doctor in-person briefly between patients. I waited for roughly 15 minutes, and just sat quietly, only briefly making small talk to the receptionist. She explained that they were busy because the doctor was going out of town soon, but they would have a response for me by the end of the day. I thanked her for her time and went home. An hour before they closed I called one last time because I was feeling worried that they hadnt called me back. The woman who called me coldly told me that they were discharging me as a patient immediately with no warning. I asked why, and they said they had three reasons. 1. They claimed I intentionally abused my medicine. This is obviously nonsense because I did it accidentally, had a good reason to make a mistake as I could show the bottle with the misleading information, but they wouldnt listen to my explanation. Furthermore why would I call them to tell them I had overdosed if I were doing it on purpose? 2. They claimed that my calls were too frequent and were inappropriate. First of all they never once told me I was calling too often, they never suggested I should just stop or anything like that. I only called AT MOST 3 times a day for two days or so. And I only called them at times when THEY promised that theyd call me back. Additionally I was never anything but polite and patient with them on the phone and I was never rude in any capacity. Finally, and perhaps most insultingly, they told me that when I came to visit the office it was inappropriate and rude. They said that I refused to leave which is the worst slap in the face of them all because I was not once asked to leave. The receptionist didnt look uncomfortable or upset, and she smiled politely at my small-talk.This all happened to me when I was in the middle of a anxiety crisis that lasted several days. My doctor who had promised to help me just decided arbitrarily to stop treating me and leave me with no psychiatrist when I was freaking out and without medicine that could adequately treat my problem. If I couldnt fall back and rely on my primary care doctor, something unthinkable could have happened. Even with my primary care doctor trying to help without a psychiatric specialization I had to go to the emergency room within a month to avoid hurting myself. I have still not been able to find a new psychiatrist to replace him, because the office my primary care doctor referred me to refused to treat me. Its been nearly a year now and I still feel dreadful and hopeless, and I cant find anyone who can really help meI dont think Dr. Chepke is an evil person or some kind of psychopath, but he is a backstabber who is unworthy of being called a doctor.

Dr. Chepke is not only a truly propitious vanguard of a physician, but those qualities are combined with his humanitarian spirit and genuine compassion for his clients. He is a rare gem who not only possesses wisdom and expertise in his field; he has the courage and vanguard to try cutting-edge methods of treatment with his goal of not just improving the quality of lives of his patients, but strives to give them the “ability” to lead a life of superfluidity and abundance. Most psychiatrists are merely living organism pharmaceutical Pez Dispensers of psychotropic medications. Dr. Chepke “does” employ medications when needed; however, he spends an abundance of quality time with each patient--employing what the great psychologist Carl Rogers called, “Unconditional Positive Regard” where he is: present, compassionate, and affirming. His empathetic nature is always present and is reminiscent of those great healer physicians throughout history such as Albert Sweitzer and Carl Jung, just to name two. Anyone fortunate to see Dr. Chepke will leave with a newfound sense of being truly “heard” and know he/she has received the best possible care to be found. His quick rapier wit, authentic benevolence, excellence in his field, and pioneering methodology in his practice as a true healer, makes for a blessed person to be honored by him as their physician. In fact, his counseling skills far surpass those of PhD level psychologists. The fact that his adroitness regarding neuroscience, psychiatry, and medications, make him a pioneer in the field, in my opinion. We are fortunate to have him in Huntersville, NC rather than lose him to an ivy league university research department. In the fields of neuroscience, psychiatry, and medicine, he is truly a tribune to the people. While many physicians turn away complex cases, Dr. Craig Chepke warmly welcomes them as if they are family. There aren’t enough accolades I can bestow upon this physician to truly do him justice. Words pale when describing him. His brilliance, beneficence, ingenious approach to patients other doctors do not possess the competence to treat, innate warmth, kindness, and genuine sympathy to the plight of his patients, make him truly a beacon among physicians.

First lets start with Dr. Chepke he is a great, professional, compassionate doctor. However, he needs to make more time for his patients. In the office he will see you and give you his undivided attention. BUT when a crisis comes along or you need help with a matter between visits he is nowhere to be found. He has you make another visit and you have to come up with that copay again! Now his staff is insanely hard to work with. Megan has been helpful ensuring my messages got to him. Even Jennifer was wonderful at first and then the I dont know or Im unsure of what the doctor wants started coming about. To the staff it feels as if your feelings or whatever you are going through mean nothing. I have seen Dr. Chepke for 3 years and this is the first review I have had to make. The office needs to change and the Dr. Needs some more time for patients when they need him for anything. It shouldnt just be about that next appointment it should be about helping people Even if that does mean helping or adjusting something until the next visit. Thats what Excel was when I first started seeing him. It was about helping people when problems and helping in any way possible. Thats not the case anymore. My largest complaint is that the patients are not a priority. I have been calling for at least two weeks trying to get help and Im still sitting here with no help. I did finally get a call back though...

Everyone at Excel Psychiatric is caring, committed and patient-centered and the office is run that way. Like a well tuned engine, everyone communicates and works together efficiently. People at Excel are genuinely happy at what they do and it shows. On wait times, I NEVER wait longer than 5-10 minutes to see Dr. Chepke or for a ketamine treatment. I find the top notch interactions I have with the staff a luxury as I routinely wait over an hour to see my PCP and sometimes days for PCP prescription requests or adjustments. The staff at Excel is attentive, cheerful and always responsive, whether I need a refill, insurance authorization or paperwork. Despite my ups and downs, its been my consistent experience that if I need an appointment or to change one, the practice is extremely flexible, always getting me in in a prompt and timely manner. As Dr. Chepke is very involved in education, (and this is a bonus), he often travels to conferences and seminars. He and his staff always take this into account and offer scheduling at non-traditional hours INCLUDING typical holidays and weekends. As a graduate of Duke University, Dr. Chepke is well-educated and knowledgeable. More importantly though, Dr. Chepke is highly involved in the latest treatment advances in psychiatry. I am currently receiving ketamine from him and it has truly changed my life. Dr. Chepke is one of only a handful of docs in NC approved to administer this medication. Ketamine treatment is time-consuming and probably not a money-maker, but Dr. Chepke and his staff offers it because it is, as in my case, what works when all other therapies have failed.Equally important, Dr. Chepke is compassionate, dynamic, caring and kind...he always focuses on me and my needs and never makes me feel rushed. Its the little things that make Excel Psychiatric exceptional. For instance, I am gay and at Excel, I always feel welcome and able to be candid about my life. The office is a true judgement-free zone. Ive never had a question or concern not addressed, and Dr. Chepke and his staff are timely with answers and/or a plan.Lastly, I want to mention that I am a physician assistant and because of my knowledge and experience in medicine, have very high expectations. I speak as an unbiased patient and provider when I say that Dr. Chepke is truly a doctors doctor. He is THE physician a doctor wants. Dr. Chepke understands and is passionate about medicine, using his knowledge and experience innovatively to provide the best treatment possible. He thinks outside-the-box when needed and is not afraid to go the extra mile to keep me feeling my Very Best Self. Thanks Doc and staff!

Dr. Chepke is the most caring, knowledgeable doctor I have ever met. My stepson and I have seen him jointly for almost three years now. My stepson has seen many doctors in his 28 years and Dr. Chepke is his favorite. His office used to be two minutes from our house. After he moved, the ride to get my stepson picked up and to his office takes about an hour and a half, but we love Dr. Chepke and its well worth the effort to get there. Were so blessed to have found him!

Do you even have to give a star?! Dr chepke is the SORRIEST excuse for a mental health physician I can think of. Half the time I was seen, I could hear other patients meetings through the paper thin walls. The appointments were NEVER on time. And HALF the time all of his children were running through the building. Completely unprofessional. I had many issues but a week after having a baby, I was told I had to take my mom off life support and prepare for her death. I called dr chepkes office to tell him I needed emergency medical attention, as I was going to need something to deal with all of this. His front desk receptionist told me I couldn’t be seen since I “missed my last appointment”. (I was having a baby. My apologies.) I told her that I was in the hospital and wasn’t even aware I had missed an appointment. She responded... & I quote... “Maybe if you hadn’t missed your last appointment, you wouldn’t be in this situation.” I lost it. I said a few choice words and would you believe this man discharged me from his practice. I got a letter in the mail 10 days later saying I could be seen for emergencies only for the next 30 days. So I called to be seen. I was told “Dr chepke will be out of the office for the next 3 weeks.” (Over my 30 day emergency window.) DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. DO NOT SEND ANYONE YOU LOVE. This man and his staff are NOT understanding, nor accommodating and do NOT care about the well-being of their patients. I recommend Carolinas behavioral wellness in Davidson. That’s REAL care.

Due to my crappy health insurance w no mental health I was paying him $110 cash at each visit. I thought everything was fine until I got a letter in the mail (about a week before he moved his practice to Huntersville) saying that due to the complications and irregularities of my payment arrangement he was going to discontinue seeing me. I some how had damaged the Dr patient relationship. I didnt know u could do that w a pyschiatrist. Hes a nice guy and I do believe he cared for me bit getting a rejection letter in the mail w a three month supply of meds was kinda harsh.
