I went with a group of my friends yesterday and everything and everyone was GREAT. The people were so nice, everyone was welcoming and very generous with their resources, information, etc. I even registered to vote! My only problem with the event was one specific cop. I entered the event when it began at noon and waited at the entrance for my friend who was put in a different line because she had a bag. While I was waiting a cop came up and asked me what was in my pocket. I told him it was my pepper spray and he told me I couldnt bring weapons in. I said it wasnt a weapon (I personally have never seen it as a weapon. It doesnt do any permanent damage. But in hindsight I understand why they were cautious because it couldve still been used in an act of hate during the event if I wanted to), in response he laughed at me and gave me some sarcastic remark about how its obviously a weapon and Im dumb with his hand still out and to avoid conflict I gave it to him. I asked if they were going to hold it and if I could come back and retrieve it later. He told me yes and walked away. Moments later a couple in line behind me said he threw it away after I turned around. They said he did the same with their cologne. He told him he could come back and get it later and his partner in line behind him watched the cop trash it. I come back about three hours later about to leave for lunch and I ask the cop if I can get it back and put it in my car. He recognized me and turns around and starts comically searching the table next to him. The table is just a plain white foldout table which visibly has nothing on it but he continues to pretend to look for it while the other cop smiles at me and straight up tells me they threw it away anyways because they arent responsible for MY property. I totally get it if they are required to throw things away or if they cant watch my stuff but the cop told me they would hold it and that I could come back later to get it. If that wasnt okay he shouldnt have lied and said it was, I wouldve turned right around and put it in my car. I know its a small thing, pepper spray is like 10-15 dollars max, but the laughing, disrespect of my property, and the comical searching of an empty plastic table, had me in a bad mood for the duration of the event and kind of killed my first Pride expierence.
