I just bought a new sewing machine in December and the tension is off and Ive tried everything I know to do to fix it. its still is not right. I read the reviews for Mels and although there is always a variety of experiences with every business, I am surprised by the wide gap with Mels customers. From absolutely horrible experiences to those that think he is amazing. I think it must be due to him being an older gentlemen with a wide range of moods and your experience depends on his mood. I dont think I will be taking my machine here just because of the unstable bases.

I would not recommend this business at all. I took my machine here, and Mel could not fix it nor did he give me a refund for the money that I had paid for service I did not receive. He then in return gave me a pre-owned machine that was in no comparison to the machine he was supposed to service and when I was totally done with the back and forth lies he then told me that one of his workers had trashed my machine when all along he is a one man business and now someone else is responsible. Please stay away from Mels Sewing Machines if you value your sewing machine.

Very fast and a true professional at his work. Im very satisfied. My machine is from the 1960s, all in 1 day.

Terrible experience. He called 2 hours after I dropped off my sewing machine and said the pulley was rusted and to come pick up my machine NOW! Yes he yelled. When I arrived to pick it up and looked at the pulley part and noted that it was not rusted, he became irrate again and said it was stripped and some one had tampered with it b4 he got to it. He charged me $10 for new belts he said were in the machine. I opened the machine the next day and there were no belts new or my old belts. He behaved very irrationally when I called to tell him I at least needed my old belts. I decided to let the $10 charge go. He had a bad attitude about that too when I went back to get my original belts. Again saying my machine couldnt be repaired with a broken pulley. And I asked so where are the new belts and he completely forgot he told me there were new belts in the machine. The story changed yet again and he said he didnt have belts that would fit my machine.So i didnt believe him that the machine could not have new belts installed because of a broken pulley. I took it to another repair man the next day and in 10 minutes the belts were replaced and its working fine. He new guy said the pulley just screws on in a left handed manner and many machines work this way.I would not recommend Mel. He seems to be suffering from severe memory issues.Update: He left two screws off the back of my machine. What a nightmare. Its working without them. When I get it serviced I will ask if they can replace them.

Quick service is all I can say. My sewing machine had been in the closet collecting dust for many years and my reverse lever was not working. Found some recent and good reviews for Mels Sewing Machine Service and called up Mr. Mel. He asked me to drop it of at 10 am and I received a call at 10:50 am, the same day, letting me know my machine was ready and running perfectly. He told me the issue was that my machine needed to be cleaned badly. WOW is all I can say he was fast and the price was comparable to a cleaning of a sewing machine. Will recommend him to my friends and family.

Took a Singer 457G115 sewing machine to him I bought to be repaired. I gave him a spare thread hook that was with the machine.He said that the ruff spot on the spare thread hook was a problem (caused by out of timing and a needle strike). .He said he could buff it out (Same thing the seller of the machine told that could be done)Mel called me two day later and said he could not do anything with the machine. When I went to pick it up he gave me the spare thread hook. It was bent beyond repair for it looks as if he tried to pry it apart without removing the 3 retaining screws on the back.I was lucky that the seller also had (and found later) a new in the box thread hook..After reading up about the machine on line and looking at how to do photos, I installed the new hook timed the machine and now have it running (total 45 min working and 2 hrs reading and learning)Save yourself time and money and look on line and youtube on how to fix your machine yourself.I now have to order another spare thread hook ($86) because that fool bent the once repairable unit

Mr. Mel is the best sewing machine repair guy that you could find. He really knows his business and his services are reasonably priced. He had to rewire my machine and now it runs like new. Also, hes fast in getting the repairs done. I brought it in one day and got it back the next. Additionally, hes a super sweet guy who is a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him for any sewing machine repairs.

I took 2 machines in yesterday morning (each are 10+ years old and had NEVER been serviced) and both were ready for pickup early afternoon...amazing!!! I gave him $270 for two machines. He did a mediocre job on the first one and said the bar was too tight fix on the second one. Told me to bring a copy of the check. Didn’t pay me back for the second machine said my copy of the check was no good

I can only give 5 star but I would rate him with 20 stars. I went today with Mr. Melvin to have my sewing machine checked, after 30 minutes he solved my problem and my sewing machine was working as never before. He is a sweet person and will fix your problem, highly recommend.

Not sure if this should be deserved with such high star review. The gentleman is nice; however, I think he may be good for normal service, not repair.

Awesome! I called Mels place. He answered right away and told me to bring my sewing machine over. He fixed it in less than half an hour. And unexpectedly the service charges were very low. I could not believe my ears! Very nice person. God bless him
