Its wonderful when you can roll back time in Texas a few decades to when everybody was polite and the food at a Roadhouse was always sublimely delicious. Hickory Hollow is one of my favorite Texas memories, great food and a wonderful atmosphere that just screams the Texas of my youth. Had a chicken fried steak it was huge and magically delicious.But what was most memorable about this particular visit was just how nice kind and polite everyone was and sometimes in a big city like Houston that gets lost. So come to Hickory Hollow for the food and enjoy the delightful people customers and staff alike for dessert.

First time here. I found it through Google and the Food network both which ranked it high.I ordered their medium chicken fried steak which was huge, I took half with me. I also got coleslaw, fried okra and a sweet tea. I also ordered some hot tots to go as I heard they were also good.The chicken fried steak was very good, crispy not greasy with a light brown country pepper gravy, also very good. The okra was crisp and well cooked not greasy and good flavor. The hot tots were also very good and the tea was fresh. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly...I will be back.

Amazing. The food is simply amazing and definitely made slow and with love. The prices are insanely reasonable and when you look at the portion sizes it make it even more worth it. This was my first time here, but the family and I loved it. We will be back again. Everything we tried was great!

I’ve been to Hickory Hollow several times and their Chicken Fried Steal is ALWAYs a star!This time, my friend and I decided to order some of their bbq as well. Although the ribs and brisket were decent - they were only “ok” - I’ll stick to the CFS.As for their sides - loaded baked potato is always a must - classic - Texas steakhouse style! Their onions rings are also a must! Honorable mention for the fried okra and salad bar!

Food is perfect. Chicken fried steak Ranger size is huge we shared for 2 adults and a kid.Server was really nice and friendly. Plenty of parking.Just one thing you have to wait 50 mins for the food...

Had the chicken fried steak and it was very good. Went early at 11:30 and there was no line. By noon line was 20 people deep. Ill definitely be back!

Brisket was good, but just good brisket. To be fair, I hold a very high standard. However, the sides were better than I thought vegetables could be. Wow, green beans and zucchini was off the charts.

So this place was on my bucket list for a couple months... and finally we checked it out. Old, country, western atmosphere with that delicious smokiness in the air. I had the sausage and brisket sandwich with spicy jalapeños potatoe tots. Both were really good. The sweet tea was rot your teeth outta your mouth goodness. 😉. Definitely going back. Ohhh, and it was cool that everyone seemed to know each other, very friendly place!!

Used to eat here years ago, and it was great and today we decided to eat here since its been sooooo long and I was very disappointed. Customer service was bad and food had changed over the years because I took 1 bite of the macaroni and it had no flavor it was watery and bland and my mash potatoes were so thick I picked it up from the bottom and flipped it and it stayed together in one piece, but my chicken fried steak was good i will give credit to the chicken fried steak it was good and i also think the server taking orders should put in their routine to confirm if they would like their gravy ontop or on the side .

Great staff takes your order, sit and wait for your pager to go off. Pick up food at the window. 99% of everything you get on your own. Good portion sizes, not a big price tag.

I got their famous country fried steak, medium size. Yes it was huge! The sides were good, although the patty was a little bland for my taste. Other than the size of the steak, theres really nothing spectacular about it.

Its a nice relaxing country themed place to enjoy some good barbecue with the family. The 3 meat comb is always a good selection when undecided on what to have. The loaded baked potato is delicious no matter your choice of meat. Both these meals can be shared. The sweet tea here is awesome!

Everything is made to order and super fresh country style period we loved everything from the chicken fried steak to the brisket and the salad. Even the ranch was real! Great customer service and great value for your money, you will always have leftovers.

The food was ok but seemed as if the meat was boiled and the smoked. I have a BBQ catering business so I know the difference. And Im not being biased Im just being honest. The service was ok. But not as friendly as I would expect. Ive been here before awhile back so thats why I came back and the experience was better back then. This is my honest opinion and I give that because I understand how important it is for a business to know if they really care. I wouldnt be against going back to try something other than bbq. They do have other items to choose from.

Less than one star if possible! Hadnt come here for a while and decided to eat here and enjoy the chicken fried steak we use to always eat... the worst. Order was wrong and once they replaced it the gravy was like water and allll over my 🐔 fried steak. Not worth the amount of money we paid.

I have heard about Hickory Hollow for years. We happened to be on their side of town and gave it a try. Do so, you will not be disappointed. My wife ordered their brisket and I ordered the 1/2 chicken for take out. The food was excellent, very tasty and properly cooked. We were very pleased and will go back.

I ordered a brisket & sausage combo sandwich with fries. Fries were pretty good and seasoned with some salt and pepper. Sandwich was okay bun was toasted but the amount of brisket and sausage in the sandwich was a tad disappointing.

Grabbed some take out bbq, ordered the family meal with brisket and sausage…. top notch meats, delicious. The sauce is a bit ketchup heavy, but still good. Will order again, looking forward to an in house visit to smash their monster CFS.

I had this restaurant on my to go list and I couldnt remember why I wanted to do. But whatever reason I had before, I doesnt matter now. There is something unique about this restaurant. Let me explain but first...I give this restaurant the best chicken tenders I ever tasted. Thats solely my opinion. Now lets talk about the rest of the meats. So to me the meats are lacking favor. But there is a reason so this madness. This restaurant is the king of sauces. Once you combine the sauce to the meats....it is a combination of perfection.

I always like eating here because the food is good and the portions are great, but could not really understand how they were famous for the chicken fried steak as it was huge but the flavor was not really something to write home about and the breading would always detach from the meat amost immediately, so I tried it again after a while and oh surprise the chicken fried steak has more flavour, it is crunchier and the breading does not detach from the meat... plus the big rancher is big enough to share plus bring home enough to make two samiches... Yeahhhh!

Been ordering here several years now. Great food, great service, until today.My first bad experience. Judith, in her 20s, light brown hair and tattoos on her arms, should be replaced. Cant take phone orders right, too much gossiping, she doesnt realize I understand Spanish...get the point? I had to go back two times to get my order right before I finally drove off. And still she made sound like it was MY fault! Ridiculous!!!

We used Hickory Hollow as our wedding caterer. They were very easy to work with from day one. They arrived on time, got everything set up, and were good to go for our serving time. The food was great and the staff was so friendly and professional. When serving was done, they packed up everything left over and cleaned up after themselves. We are so appreciative of all of their hard work and making our wedding dinner great.

Don’t know why I haven’t reviewed my all time favorite place I’ve been coming here since I was little and let me tell you everything in the menu is delicious and will never go wrong for lunch or dinner my go to personal favorite is their baked potatoes and chopped brisket.

I love this place! The food is great. It would be better if their meals came as a combo instead of everything separate. The only other thing I would change is the attitude of the cashiers. They always take your order as if they are in a hurry to get done with you. Never a smile. And you can tell when someone smiles even though they are wearing a mask.

Have been coming here since the 70’s when I was a kid. I do miss the cowgirl and our number being called when the order was ready. Other than that pretty much the same goodness it’s always been. My kids are in their 20’s now and also have fond memories of the “cowboy place”. Keep up the great food and always pleasant employees!!

Despite the strange parking situation, this restaurant is now on top of my list of places to eat when visiting Houston. The chicken fried steak was absolutely perfect. Not all crust. Tender meat, and a unique gravy that was not overpowering. Drinking was fresh and tasted like it cant out of my grandmothers kitchen. The staff were extremely friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Definitely a must try.

Picked up dessert only. Eh nothing special. Got the carrot cake, cherry and another cobbler, cant remember now. Wouldnt order desert again.

Me and my girlfriend visited the Fallbrook location this past Tuesday night. We were met by friendly people and immediate service. Our food came in less than 5 minutes. The flavor of the meats was GREAT! Very tender. Not too smoky, not too greasy and not dry at all! A turkey plate and a 3 meat plate (sausage, ribs and sliced brisket) with drinks cost less than $30!! Google Reviews only allows for 5 stars. If I could, I would give Hickory Hollow 87 stars. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I had the chicken fried steak with mash and green beans. The steak and mash were legit... while the green beans tasted like they were from a can. Nice family atmosphere. And they had live country music. I shouldve have gotten the okra. All in all Ill be back

My first experience here was very good. I had the 2 meat plate with sausage and grilled chicken. The sausage was good but not the best in Texas as they claim. The grilled chicken was excellent however, moist and flavorful. I had fries and Mac-n-cheese for the sides and both were good. My sister had an absolutely HUGE stuffed baked potato. I think it weighed 3 lbs. Ill be going back to try more things. Its definitely worth trying.

Huge Chicken Fried steaks and smoked Chicken and ribs. Hot tots are my favorite snack and the onion rings are legit . Brisket is sometimes on the dry side but a great neighborhood spot . Try now before they close in January. Other location is in the burbs.

I was very excited about trying this place, my family had been craving BBQ for a long time so I went on Google trying to get a good Sunday meal to enjoy at home. I spent a lot of money just because we wanted to try all kinds of things but we were all very disappointed, first of all the brisket was burnt and super dry, we couldnt eat it, the order of onion rings I got look more like a half order and there was no bread for a $59.99 family deluxe pack that states on the menu that comes with it, my husband ended up having to go to the store to buy some. When I called them back to let them know that they had forgotten to add the bread they said that since COVID-19 started they only give it to you if you ask for it, what does that have to do with it? I really dont understand, the girl who answered the phone said well you can always come back and Ill give you four slices of bread if you want, really? That was like three hours later and she also said that the brisket was fine that thats the way it is supposed to be and for the onion rings she just said yeah you should of gotten a few more but that was it, I was not happy at all and for sure I wont be going back. I own a business and that is not the way to handle things when theres a problem.I spent almost $100.00 for them to tell me to go back so they can give me four slices of bread...
