I adopted the sweetest dog ever. I like that the people I spoke with about him and his behaviors while being with them were honest and that they didn’t try to “sell up” the dog.He was so very easy to potty train which is not always the case. He’s very loving and has such a great temperament. All the things that Special Pals said about Sioux, but now Cooper, we’re true. I appreciated the honesty because I was able to make the right choice in what I was looking for.

Love this place I guess a couple months ago I adopted a little miniature schnauzer Corgi hes beautiful very healthy the people there are very friendly and courteous and will work with you and make you feel like youre at home and also Ill be back to adopt again theyre wonderful people

Our experience here finding a dog to adopt was pretty easy. Then again sometimes you just get lucky. Our little chihuahua mix bonded almost immediately.I cant speak for those that might have to spend more time finding a pet, but our experience was fairly quick, but non-rushed. The facilities looked clean and the dogs available for adoption seemed well taken care of.The staff were very friendly, and I believe that they work off donations. Maybe people should stop throwing their money at corrupt politicians and spend it at places like this. The world might be a better place.

How could I not give 5 Stars to anyone who does such a selfless job and does it with all heart. I will definitely be putting them on my donation list. Thank you all.

Dogs seem to be afraid of some of the staff but everything seemed clean.

I adopted Moonpie my cat here 2 years ago, and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. She was originally $75, but I got her for $20! They even gave me a free carrier cage. I love her so much and she is my entire world. Thank you for bringing her to me.Update!! I adopted another cat for my brother here named Zippy, however we had to return him because Moonpie was being very violent towards him. The staff were so nice and made the process less painful. I hope Zippy finds a new home🖤🖤Also I bought their shirt and it is now my new favorite shirt. Very comfy!!

I went with a couple of friends that wanted to adopt a dog, instead I found my best friend Spanky! I truly feel blessed to have found such a wonderful companion. I also go there for her vaccinations and medication. The staff is very friendly and you can tell that they love being there helping you to find a companion suited just for you. Their cat playground is the cutest too!

I found this baby in that very sad place. She was waiting for those who abandoned her. She was hungry and nervous! I have no house to keep her. She was adorable, sweet, potty train and a good girl. I cried all night and could not sleep well, but someone told me to go to Special Pals, because it was the best place and there I went. They made a great effort to help me and believe me, that I will never forget! Today I can sleep again, because I know that the baby is safe and will find the best home full of love and peace. I encourage all the people to help that wonderful organization, because they are saving lives, but they still need money and volunteers and most of all adoptions! Please adopt, like this beautiful baby, there are many good dogs ready to be your best friend and give you love no matter what. Please give them a second chance to know what is true love!!!

Thank you guys! Daks (AKA Bullwinkle is doing great!). He is a super smart puppy. Hes been with us a week, and understands the doggy door, sits, and learns commands without voice well. Hes had his second round of shots. and waiting a month for the third. Hes gained 5 lbs, eats well, and also plays pretty well with the older retriever. Not many accidents at all... (Special thanks to David, whom spent much time with us picking out a great puppy. He calmed down well, I was skeptical... LOL). This guy will be loved and taken care of well. He got really lucky! Keep up the great work, and thank you again!

Great place! I got my baby Caramel from here! I take her there for her puppy shots as needed, a cheap mani-pedi and heartworm medication. Great staff, Uncle David love a all of his furry children lol He always remembers Caramel and she absolutely loves him.They really care about the animals, you can see their genuine hearts shine through.

Even though they couldnt take the abandoned kittens I had, they were very compassionate. You could tell they loved animals.

I work with special pals, fostering kittens that have been dumped on its side of the road or found in buckets I help train them to be good pets for Lucky families that will eventually adopt them and give them a forever home.

The staff, wasnt very friendly. There was a lady there who apparently has been there several times, that assisted us regarding the process.

They clearly care a whole lot about their animals here. The staff know the animals really well and are super willing to help.Unfortunately the animals arent getting all the attention and training they might have access to at a larger shelter. Thats something to keep in mind when adopting. Be ready to bring home a baby that isnt used to all the love and safety youre providing them!Special Pals is definitely doing all that they can, and theyre definitely one of the better shelters out there in my opinion!

Just had the worst experience with the people running this place.I found a puppy panting and hiding behind a sign while at work in the middle of nowhere. He looked like a beagle/pit mix, and he was the sweetest little guy. I think he was chipped because he obeyed commands and looked well taken care of. I quickly went out of my way to find the nearest no-kill shelter in my area since I’m an hour from home and I couldn’t leave him there.Upon arriving the workers went through the theatrics of getting him inside the gates and on a leash. I asked the woman who came out first if they could take him from there since I’m at work and they preach being an “animal rescue” service. She is dismissive and points me to who I assume was in charge. She tells me they aren’t a shelter that on-boards, even though she had admitted they took two dogs in the day before. She further explains her reasoning to be that he “looks like a pitbull“ so they can’t take him. A ~5 month old puppy. I told them I couldn’t take him and that I drove 20 minutes out of my way to make sure this dog was safe from 100° weather in the middle of nowhere. They said they’d call the cops on me two separate times instead of offering help or making calls, one time threatening after I had already said I’d take him with me.Would’ve been nice to know ahead of time, but no one answered the phone even though I called multiple times over the 20 minute drive.Glad I found a friend to help with the big scary pitbull mix puppy until I find a foster family. Consider adopting from well taken care of and loved dogs from Cypress Lucky Mutt Rescue. :-)

My daughter and I have had the privilege of volunteering together at Special Pals for the past year. When the staff members talk about the pets their eyes light up and you can just tell that they really love the animals. The animals are well cared for and they take the time to verify that pets and potential owners are a good fit before finalizing adoptions. They also have services for the entire community including boarding and low cost vet services including spaying, neutering and vaccines. If you haven’t been before and you are looking to adopt a pet, make sure you check them out! ❤️Update: We just adopted a dog from Special Pals and had an amazing experience and our new little guy fits right into our family!!

This is the first time I have ever adopted and I hope to always adopt from them. One thing I love is that they are a no kill shelter, so the dogs are a priority. They were really welcoming and friendly while making sure that the dog I got would be a good fit. I got my beautiful German shepherd from here and I dont regret it.I think what I loved the most about them is that they know their dogs. As soon as I asked about my dog, Mary, Ms. Valerie knew everything about her. When I decided to adopt her, she went through all the medical history and general history about her so I knew what to expect. She gave me some good pointers for her and her personality which has helped me tremendously.Overall this is a great shelter, which you can see the second onto the property. The staff get along great with each other and are constantly looking out for the dogs

My husband and I randomly found this shelter while driving home. We walked in and walked out with fostering a husky. Best decision ever! This shelter is the best and the staff and volunteers are THE BEST! You can tell that the people here genuinely care for the animals that come to their shelter. Ive never been to an adoption shelter in my life, but when I first came here, the staff was as inviting and gracious to me as possible. Valerie, the head staff member really trusted me and she wanted more than anything to get every single animal at the shelter to be adopted. I feel every dog is well cared for and trained, and it honestly shows when seeing them or walking them for the first time.You can also volunteer here if you like which is a plus.10/10 this is a great place to adopt from.

These people are Gods angels on earth. We took a stray in from Hurricane Harvey and they were wonderful. The shelter was clean, the staff very accommodating and gracious. They informed us that they are opening their shelter to the victims that have been displaced during the storm and with the help of volunteers, will take care of your precious friend until you are able to care for him/her again. Fantastic shelter. Ive worked with them for the past 5 years and see their dedication and hard work first hand. They are a true no-kill shelter - which means they never give up. Unlike a lot of shelters, they treat dogs and cats that come in with injuries, or are sick. Heartworms...no problem! They dont discriminate based on breed, and they work diligently with purebred rescue groups. They will help you find a dog or cat that is the best fit for your family. I went in for volunteer orientation, they treated me so nicely. They took me on a tour of the facility and explained their goals for the animals and the love they have for them. I can see the time they spend taking care of these animals. They were clean,had toys and treats! I look forward to volunteering for them many times in the future. The bonus is they are a no-kill. We moved to Katy 8 Months ago and we ended up at Special Pals asking questions and the Staff was very informative and let us look around and if we had questions theyd be happy to answer and they did. Know we come on Sundays and help walk all the sweet Dogs that are ready to have a forever home. They also have cats and a few dogs that come as Bonded pair.

One of the only no kill shelters in the area.., a good place to help all your K-9 friends... All the staff are very nice ...

This place really is special. The animals look so happy and they get so excited to see the staff and the staff is so attentive. The animals are so friendly. I hate that PETA is actively advertising that no-kill shelters (like this one) are inhumane or worse than death. That is absolutely incorrect and untrue. Come to this shelter and see how dedicated these people are. See how much they genuinely love and care for animals. See how real, friendly and warm the staff are with the animals. There needs to be more shelters like this one and I hope that people who have the ability to take care of animals in this way get recognized for their courage and dedication to the animal kingdom. DO NOT believe the negative articles about no-kill shelters. THEY ARE humane and the animals ARE happy. As people adopt, they go out and get more animals to fill the empty spots. So please adopt your animals here so that the ones that are scheduled to get euthanized at other shelters have a chance to come here and live a stress free life until the right person comes along. I think it can make all the difference in an animals attitude towards potential adopters, since theyre being cared for in a more home-like setting, with real care. So I’ve came to this location for multiple reasons for vaccines and flea medication this location is great. I’ve boarded my animals on 2 occasions the first time was great. But the second time was not a good experience at all my pug came back about a size to smaller her harness no longer fit. My dogs harness tags were mixed up... very strange and all 3 dogs came back greasy and smelling of urine..

I cannot more genuinely express how important this establishment is! Their love & dedication is unmeasurable! I adopted not one, but two sweet babies from here. My husband saw one on their site and I saw another that I liked. Low & behold, when we arrived, we learned they’re a pair and shouldn’t be apart! It stands true to this day! Flint & Steel are still companions in our home & I couldn’t imagine one without the other! PLEASE listen to Valerie’s advice when you’re looking at a pair - they should NOT be separated, and you won’t regret taking them both home!

Today was the fist time I walked a dog there...I was very impressed with the staff and the love and care they give these precious animals...I actually witnessed a double adoption and saw the new family...when the head lady took a picture of the fur babies with their new family and then held them and told them by and was given thank you farewell kisses...tears filled my eyes...i love this place completely. Went in to see about a neuter for my cat and it took them a long time to get to me; I think they mistakenly thought I was with another customer. Unfortunately their vet is out so well have to wait on the neuter. There was a sweet office kitty that came to sit with me, and staff were well-informed and even recommended a nearby clinic for us.

The volunteers are so friendly and appreciative of your donations. The only no kill shelter around this part of town! Their fundraising events are great and I try to go to as many as I can.

Amazing staff and they are not breed discriminating. They have a wide variety of breeds to choose from and a very knowledgeable staff whom know every detail about every animal. Ive adopted 2 dogs already and the experience was amazing!

So disappointed. Adoption fees offensively high!! This “shelter” sells dogs. THIS IS AN ANIMAL RESALE SHOP. Here, It’s all about the profit they can make and not about helping animals find homes. They do not make them easy to adopt. They price their dogs based on breed. They don’t try to find them good homes, they are only trying to make quick money on these STRAYS. I understand having adoption fees but they price some strays at $500 with NO papers, NO background information and NO vaccines. (That’s more than some breeders) The people that work here may be nice (sometimes) but they are just trying to profit off these animals. They are trying to take advantage of people. And the last time I was there almost ALL the staff was extremely rude to me; Rolling their eyes at me and yelling at me to not pet the dogs. Just before one of the staff members rolled her eyes at me, she admitted that they are SELLING one of their dogs for $500 because she knows “someone out there will pay it”. This means The dog will sit in the shelter until that happens. How sad, that this stray dog has to sit in a shelter because of the selfishness of these workers.When we called her out for being greedy with the price of that dog she rolled her eyes and walked away from me because she knew how wrong it is. She wouldn’t even finish talking to me(lack of customer service). Not all the animals are equally adoptable and it is because of how this animal store is run. I just can not support people that run shelters like greedy breeders. Please support ACTUAL animal shelters and not these fools selling animals.

My frustration has been that I am using a walker due to my disability. The adoption has fell though on first holds and second holds. This leads me to believe that they are being discriminatory because I have cerebral palsy. There adoption process is biased by people who work there. The last time I was first in line for a dog and they came running out to ask if I had finished my paperwork for the dog asking did I still want him? I said yes. So he was in process of getting spayed and shots. It was a 10 month old Shih Tsu, and was healthy. They called me the next day and told me that he was dead. I was so sad!!! I hope that they lied and hes alive. Id rather believe hes alive with a new owner than dead. But I dont have transportation. My neighbor took me many times at her expense. Each time I have been put off. So I am living alone without a fur baby. Just wanted to warn others that not all people get a happy ending.

I have been doing rescue for a very long time and I have used different boarding facility and different shelter. But for the first time I have found a NO KILL shelter who the entire staffs care so much for the animals in their care. Most of the staffs members would take home puppies or kitten who were abandon and bottle feed them nurse them back to health. How many people willing to take their work home and do it for days. The staffs spend time walking, playing giving my dogs treats sometime spending their own money. They care so much for the animals in their care it make me so happy when Elizabeth agree to help my rescue when no one else steps up to help us. Specials Pals trying to do their part to help eliminate the over population in the state of TX by offering low cost spay and neuter also low cost vaccination.
