Nice room. Beautiful ocean front. Water in shower and sink would just stop intermittently. Was random. Maintenance man never could replicate the problem but believe me there is one. He would have had to been there when I showered!
Amazing hotel! I usually don’t write reviews but we were impressed with their customer service and room condition. Although the hotel is not new and definitely needs some improvement, it is very clean, room was comfortable and the hotel it is located close to the beach. We really liked that everyone is polite and willing to help you! Will definitely return here!
We were a little nervous about our stay based on recent reviews, but the hotel is honestly not that bad. To be clear, you are paying to be beach front, not anything else. Yes, the hotel is dated. Yes, it is a bit musty, but what do you expect from an ocean front property in SC? The staff is friendly, and they are trying- we saw people painting and cleaning the whole weekend. They are clearly understaffed- our room was not ready until close to 6 pm, but every place is understaffed. I don’t know that I would stay here for a whole week, but for a quick weekend get away it was just fine.
Everything about this is hotel was wonderful. The staff was very kind and especially the manager Mark - he went above and beyond to make sure our stay was special. This kind of service goes a long way and Ill be sure to share this with my family and friends. Mark is exceptional at what he does and is a great example to his team. The resort is in the perfect location for easy access to just about anything you could want. The room was amazing and had such a beautiful view. We were very impressed by how clean the room was, as well. I would highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be back! Thanks again and hats off to Mark.
Great location and still a decent place to stay, but the old girl is in serious need of some updating and renovation. In our room, the carpet was frayed and the popcorn ceiling was coming off. Building stucco seems to be flaking too. But, it’s such a nice location for beach access, we were willing to overlook a few things.
It was our first time in Hilton Head and we couldn’t have picked a better hotel to enjoy.Staff and servers were all great. My favorite thing about this hotel was the room service, breakfast buffet ($100+ for a family of four but worth not getting in the car to drive) and the location of the pool to the beach. We enjoyed being able to swim in the ocean, relax on the beach and then come back over and grab a quick meal from the outdoor service restaurants, use the complimentary pool towels and then head back to the beach just steps away from the pool/restaurant. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were wonderful for kids.Beds were very comfy, the room was clean and the view from the balcony was wonderful to wake up to.We will definitely return!
My room was great but the bathroom is so outdated, this is 2021. There was no vanity, hairdryer, the floor looked dirty, peeling tile and a small table that was peeling as well. My bathroom at home is more up to date. I won’t dare speak of the travel size products for 4 people to use, good thing I carry my own There were no Microwave in the rooms, even Motels have them. I will never stay here again nor would I recommend your resort
I am a frequent traveler and normally my hotel of choice is a Marriott hotel, because their rooms are nice, clean and the staff is friendly....normally. Unfortunately, not at this Marriott. I requested a high floor as usual and we were given a room on the 1st floor, which seems more like a basement, with absolutely no view. They said that they could not accommodate us, nor did they try. Then we get to the room that smells like mold and feels damp, just to find out that the bed duvet, sheets and mattress cover is filthy. It was supposed to be a quick weekend trip for my birthday, and the unfriendly staff and dirty room makes it a little difficult to enjoy. I wouldnt recommend this Marriott to anyone!
This property needs a lot of work. While the lobby appears to be updated, the rooms are poorly maintained. Popcorn ceilings, stucko walls badly painted. The doors appear to be the original ones from 1976, even the elevators are outdated. Clearly the property owners are not investing to make your stay a delightful experience. Beds were comfortable. So its all about what makes a great stay for you. For me....I like beauty and these rooms do not offer that.
Overall, the hotel experience was good. Breakfast buffet is nice, pools are good. Access to the beach is right behind he pool. However, this is the first resort that I have been to that charges a resort fee but does not provide beach chairs or an umbrella. You have to rent them through the city of Hilton Head. If you do not get there before 9AM, you are out of luck for the day as they have very limited quantities. The hotel offers no solution to this. The hotel should have this posted on their website clearly. I may have chosen another place to stay instead as I have no way to bring my own equipment flying in from DC.The hot tub is also quite small for a hotel this large.
Staff were wonderful. Jessica at the front desk immediately addressed an issue we had with the room. Professionalism was noted and appreciated. Devon was our server at the breakfast buffet. He handled a very rude customer next to us with a pleasant manner. Would recommend this place. Note that housekeeping is every three days.
Stayed at this location for 3 nights and was very disappointed in everything that they had to offer. Arrived at the hotel after driving a long time so we were all very tired; to find out that they hadn’t even given us the right room. There was back and forth with that fiasco but at that point we needed some sleep. Showered that night and the drain I guess was clogged because the water almost overflowed onto the floor. Called downstairs and they sent a repair man up, he did unclog it but left all the debris in the shower (who knows what they debris was). Spoke again to manager and he gave me attitude about the whole thing. One of the pluses was they gave us a $50 credit to use for whatever at the resort so we decided on the last night to order room service. Food was very disappointing and way too expensive for what you get. Overall very disappointed in the whole experience and spent way to much money on the resort. The price you pay for the hotel and the fact that it’s a 4 star hotel one may think you would have better amenities and better staff but obviously that’s not the case here, think twice before booking a stay at this hotel. Also when booking this hotel their website states that there are provided robes and Bath and Body Works toiletries and neither were provided. One more thing, the remotes don’t work for the tv and had to have 4 replacements for a 3 night stay, which became a big hassle.
Stay here, but only to save some money.Pros: Beds are comfy and you can get a room overlooking the ocean. Staff is pretty nice too.Cons: How you gonna charge this price with not even having a microwave in the room? The wifi is straight outta 2002 (absolutely not an exaggeration) If you want food, just expect to order pizza because “sub-par” doesn’t do the on-property food justice. The in-room fridge fits 3 bottles of water and is in an enclosed, unventilated cabinet so it’s only 3 degrees colder than your room. We had to slam our room door because it refused to close fully otherwise.TL:DR - stay here to save money, but be ready to be wildly disappointed by everything except the staff and ocean.
We had a wonderful time in Hilton Head!Pros - the hotel was in a great locationCons - this hotel is overdue for many upgrades, the decor is outdated for the rooms and pool area. The restaurant did not offer a wide variety of particularly for breakfast.
I read some of the negative reviews and was not sure at first, but decided to try since I stayed there years ago. Well, our room was beautifully appointed! Bathroom’s shower was awesome!.This was our last stop on our road trip and worth every dollar? Excellent staff as well!
We had reservations booked here last week and cancelled them upon arrival. The whole hotel needs a massive makeover as its extremely outdated. The hotel hallways smelled like mildew, when we got into our room the ceiling was a popcorn ceiling with mold stains all over it, furniture very outdated and the bathroom was horrendous. Dont trust the pictures you see of this place online. Its bad! As most people are most likely traveling quite a distance to have an enjoyable time and experience I would NOT recommend to stay here. We ended up booking a reservation at The Westin up the road and had a stellar experience. I would highly recommend to book at The Westin instead as you wont be disappointed. The beach, amenities and vibe is one youll enjoy with a minimal cost difference.
Very disappointed in the quality of service at the customer service desk and attention to detail in our room. We have been coming to this hotel for over 7 years now and this has been the most horrific experience here. The 9/3/2021 at 2030 Manager was rude to me when I asked about renting the pool chairs, made me feel I was bothering her and putting her out of her way, no sir or anything else, but rather this is the way it is, so get over it.The 9/3/2021 at 2105 host at the Blue was put out because I asked her about ordering deserts and said they were on the back of a bar menu, when I asked for one she gave me a disgusted sigh and stormed off to the dinning area to grab a menu off a table (even though she said bar menu), no sir or any other respectful gesture. Our room, the worse shape I have seen these rooms, especially for about $600 a night… we are staying 3 nights, so about $2,000 total. We had mold everywhere, we n the ceiling, in the shower, and even on the curtains… WTFrack, do they not clean anything! The paint on the walls and ceiling in the bath and right above our bed was peeling (huge chunks)… don’t get me started on how dirty/black my white socks were from walking on the carpet and the pubic hair in the tub.All I can say it WOW, so so disappointed, what happened to this place! The reason I am not giving them 1 star, is because of the wonderful times we had here, unfortunately this maybe our last time.
This hotel was amazing! The beach was beautiful. My sister and I enjoyed building sandcastles. The rooms could use a renovation; they looked a bit old. The restaurants served DELICIOUS FOOD! The breakfast area served all sorts of fresh foods! My sister loved the animal decorations on the wall. The waiters were kind and helpful. The Blue restaurant served GREAT dinner foods for both children and adults. The view was SPECTACULAR! We managed to see the sunset and sunrise and they looked absolutely stunning. Thank you!
Booked a ocean view. Got a resort view.Shower is clogged up. Called and told the front desk and nothing happened. Still clogged. Our other guest complained and got moved from having black mold in the room. The ice machine is broke and has been broke the entire time we have been here. We are staying on the first floor and it smells like sewage in our room. You can complain all you want and nothing gets done. This is the worst 400/500 $ per night I HAVE ever spent. Will never come back here nor will I ever recommend anyone
We have stayed at Marriott properties around the world and this is one of the worst. If this was not on the idea. It would be a 3 star hotel. It’s a bit run down and dated. This property underwhelms.. It’s in need of a remodel, as well as a customer service overhaul. We arrived excited as it was our first time in Hilton Head. We checked in, which was fine and easy and quickly put our bags away and went to the bar for a drink and a snack. The three bartenders were all less than thrilled to be there. They were not engaging or smiling. The drinks were fair, not exactly what we ordered but we gave them a break. We tried to have conversation, but as I said, they were very disengaged. Fast forward to the morning when I called around 7 am and requested a few items due to our room not being serviced due to covid. I had to request 3 time until I got the items at 8 pm. There’s only one bar open late and the atmosphere was boring and not fun at all. There’s got to be better options for the price. We won’t be back to this hotel..
We did not get to stay since when we arrived we found out that our reservation had been cancelled. It was a nightmare, traveling from NJ, I had called twice (one week before and day of) to confirm our reservation which was confirmed for Friday-Sunday 9/24-26. When we arrived at the desk to check in at 6:30 pm we were told our reservation had been cancelled and there was no availability! The manager Carissa Limon was extremely rude, unhelpful and acted as if she had no more information, just that it was cancelled. She actually gave us a card and wrote down the cancellation number as if that would clear everything up. I called the main reservation number and spoke with Victor who was very kind, compassionate and tried to get to the bottom of this. He informed us that the PROPERTY cancelled us and that they were supposed to send us an email with explanation. There was no explanation. The only thing we can surmise is that we had a good rate locked in from booking this back in August, and the PROPERTY (or Carissa Limon) decided they could get more money for our room. As Marriott members for years, this was a disgrace, and very upsetting after a long travel day. There was no compensation for cancelling, my husband asked if they could comp a free dinner, drink, how about a bottle of water while we stood there for 1.5 hours trying to get some answers and find another place to stay? NOPE - Carrissa Limon just smugly said Have a great night which was uncalled for, since obviously we were not going to have a great night. She should be fired.
I am a long time Titanium for life Marriott client but have stopped using Marriott after my experience at this location. Not only is it dated but unsafe with extension cords exposed and able to be grabbed by children. The suite I was in had a couch bed that was so old the springs we popping through the mattress. They offered a roll away and dropped it in the hallway for me to move furniture around to try to find space. The cabinet doors did not close and the refrigerator was open for the children to access. I was in a 2 queen bedroom and was upgraded due to my status halfway through my stay. I was put in a 1 bedroom( with 2 kids) and when I complained I was told I could leave. the manager Mark did not care and sent me a templated letter sating he would upgrade me next time. The upgrade was the problem. I am not even sure he read the complaint. This location lost a longtime customer. DO NOT STAY HERE.
Going to break this review down in different parts.First the bar staff at the pool were excellent and wish I could rate them differently. They were fast and friendly with great drinks. The outside pools were nice and not super crowded. The beach lifeguards had our chairs setup on the beach and were helpful if we couldnt find our seats. The did quit at 5pm sharp and they packed up the chairs and umbrellas. The room is my main dislike of the hotel. The headboard hadnt been dusted in a few weeks and there were hair clips and socks under the bed from a previous guest. The air-conditioner when it would turn on would make a winding sound and wake me up throughout the night. I let staff know so they could hopefully look at it before the next guest. One of the lightbulbs in the shower didnt work (no big deal) and the exhaust fan didnt work either.Since we ate so much on the island we would normally use the stairs and those I dont think have been swept or cleaned in a really long time.Overall for the price for the room I understand the location cost but I would have hoped for a cleaner room and hotel.
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, especially for the price. The entire hotel seems rundown. One of the elevators was not working the entire week, and the other was extremely slow. One of the staircases outdoors leading to the pool was covered in rust and one of the railings was completely fallen off the wall and left hanging on the stairs for multiple days. The room was humid and the carpet was constantly damp. There were mold stains on the ceiling of our room. Our comforter had black spots all over it, which also looked like mold. We asked for a new room and a new comforter, both of which were not any better. By the third complaint about the disgusting bedding, they finally brought a new comforter out of the package. I stayed a week, and the entire time felt like I was breathing in mold, causing me to persistently cough the entire week. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone and I won’t be back.
As covered extensively in the reviews, the hotel needs an update. That is something we can all agree on. Im a bit surprised, to be candid, that Marriott has let the hotel go as long as it has without an update. The bathrooms are very tired, though I understand that updates will start on them in December 2021. The common areas (except for the pool) look a bit older, but are reasonably well kept. The pool is very tired as well, though, in all fairness, for the number of people who use it, it did appear to be reasonably clean. The beach access is amazing. Though I would warn the beach attendants (not part of the hotel) think they run the White House, and if your child touches one of the 100 chairs that they set out for $40/rental that is not being used, you can expect it will be quickly retrieved and you will be reminded of the daily rental fee and the need to make a reservation. The reason I am still giving the hotel five stars is that the staff does try its best. They are overwhelmed as you will see when you call the hotel (oftentimes they do not pick up). But when you do get a hold of them, or speak with them in person, they are professional, understanding, and do make an effort to do the right thing.Despite the general condition of the hotel, we did have an excellent time. Mark Cortes in particular was a real professional and is an asset to this hotel.
So Marriotts international commitment to clean. We had 6 night stay day 4 is cleaning day. No vacuum no new towels no washing bathroom they dont change garbage. So why did they come into the room. We go talk to management they are supposed to do full service cleaning on day 4. If this is what they do for full service I cant imagine what they do between customers. Scary to think. I did not see any cleaning of public areas (high touch points which they advertise) doors to rooms dont shut on there own. Ceiling popcorn falling down. $500 per night ocean view balcony I would expect much better from Marriott. I do not recommend this hotel, but the beach and pool is great wait staff very friendly in restaurants. This is the reason for the extra star, otherwise I would give 1 star. I am a titanium for life Marriott member so this review does not come lightly. I hope management reads this and addresses all these issues. Mark the manager was somewhat helpful in solving some issues but he said he would send towels to the room and he failed at that simple issue. Thanks for reading.
Had bugs in two out of the three rooms that I stayed in and every time I went to the desk they didn’t even care. When asked if it’s normal to have bugs since they were so close to the beach, they replied “definitely not”. If that’s true, they definitely had a bug problem then. It was a holiday weekend so they were limited on rooms, which I understand, but not once was an apology even given, poor hospitality and will never stay again.
One night stay in Room 738. Ocean facing room with a balcony from which to listen to the waves and watch the sunrise and sunset. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was average and could use a refreshing, touch up. Boys enjoyed the pool off to the side that was much deeper than the larger pool. There is a standard daily resort fee for $25 per day. The beach is right behind the hotel and very accessible.
Greatest place.... so clean so pristineRight on the beach, 2 different pool and hot tubsThe views and atmosphere is incredible 👏😍I will bring all of my people back hereWas the greatest vacation 🙌
A hotel thats been around for decades... it shows but the location makes up for the stuff thats outdated! Nice outdoor pool area with movies every night. Steps away from the ocean. Comfortable Marriott beds with clean rooms... thats about all you need.I will say this hotel still has so much potential to be the best on the island. Simple things with a good pressure washing and fresh coat of paint would really give out a lift. My family had a great stay and we look forward to visiting again, but just a few simple basic maintenance moves would make this place spectacular!
This is a tough resort to review. If I’m judging based on the room, I would probably rank it 1 star. When we arrived, our room had a mild odor, though we were able to air the room out. The AC didn’t worked very well. We had to set it at the lowest to get the room down to 76°. On the last night there, I noticed that the popcorn ceiling was separating from the ceiling near our doorway. The toilet ran frequently. There was a significant leak on the LL right next to the elevators one morning when I went down to see the sunrise and I slipped and fell. Overall, this place is badly in need of renovations. The worst aspect of the room was that we paid for an “Atlantic view” and it was only enjoyable on the right half of the balcony. You almost couldn’t see the Atlantic or the beach from the bed. “Beach front” is the room to book, as the view of the condos next door and their parking lot was mostly what we ended up with. I felt duped but I wasn’t about to ruin my vacation by fighting with the hotel staff. The pool and jacuzzis and the beach view from the pool area is fantastic. The cocktails at the bar were top notch. The breakfast buffet, though pricey, had fantastic food - the scrambled eggs and the grits both tasted like home. If I were to rate the amenities outside, it would be 5 stars. The gift shop Starbucks is worth skipping.
Absolutely terrible everything smelled horrible! We reserved a junior suite for a week, upon entering the room it smelt musty. After further inspection, some of the carpet was missing, found mold on the curtains and the bedding was damp. Bathrooms weren’t clean and beds were very uncomfortable. Called to cancel room, spoke to manager who was unsympathetic and rude. The only nice people were the waitress at blue cafe for breakfast. Do not stay! Found an Airbnb for 1/2 the price but twice as nice!
Nice pool and beach area. The property definitely needs updating but everything was clean except fitness area. I had to argue with the front desk to get a better room view than A/C equipment. I would have thought a Gold Bonvoy Member would have gotten a better room selection without arguing. I was pleased with the room they eventually gave me - it was clean. FYI housekeeping only comes once every 3 days which wasnt mentioned at check in. Breakfast buffet was overpriced. Lunch outside by pool was reasonably priced and good.
Not worth the cost. Beach access only asset. Air conditioner was broken, staff was overwhelmed. Used points and our room was above kitchen exhaust fans. Servers were nice, but not enough. Prices were crazy high with few options. Even morning coffee was 5.75 for an 8oz cup. Bring your own snacks and drinks, book through third party and enjoy the beach with your own towels and chairs. Or go next door.
I stayed here on two separate occasions for three nights total. The first visit we discovered the floor (carpet) of our room was completely soaking wet from the bed all the way to the balcony and smelled really badly. I complained and we were promptly met by a front desk attendant and given the keys to another room.On our second visit our room smelled like a musty flooded basement. The carpet wasn’t soaking like the first time. The front desk did not answer the phone this time after ringing for several minutes so I returned to the lobby. I was told only one other room was available and given the keys to it which I visited only to find that it smelled even worse then the room I was already in, and it didn’t have two queen beds like my current room. After leaving the room I ran into a man who was also at the front desk exchanging rooms at the same time as me and he asked about my situation, why I needed to change rooms. He said he had been given keys to 2 rooms both of which had the same smell like I described and was about to check a third room but wasn’t expecting anything different. He said his son was also in the hotel in another room and described the hotel as “not really a nice place”.The front desk staff member wouldn’t do anything for me when I explained that neither room was acceptable except offer to refund my $25 per night resort fee which I think is unacceptable. Why would I want to stay in a room on vacation that smells like mold is growing in it? Given that I’ve been in four rooms in this hotel and only one did not smell, that’s a low rate of success and I would think the hotel management is ignoring a serious problem.
The location is great, and the staff is friendly. The bell staff is extremely helpful and very nice. However, this is where the pleasantries end. When we got to our room we immediately noticed a musty smell. There was condensation visible and running down the wall underneath the air conditioning vent. The thermostat did not work. We notified the front desk & they sent maintenance to our room. The gentlemen replaced the thermostat & cleaned up the wall. We thought things were fixed however this solution did not fix the problem. The air-conditioning did not work properly and after a day the room smelled musty again. In addition, we called maintenance directly the first day and asked that they replace a light bulb in the main entrance hall of our room. They never showed up & the gentlemen who were sent to fix the air-conditioning had to replace the light bulb the next day. We are Marriott Bonvoy Rewards members and generally stay at Marriott hotels on our trips. I must say that I was very disappointed in the quality and cleanliness of this facility. We reported piles of empty beer cans which were left in the outside staircase - this took at least 2 days to clean up - only after I found a manager and reported the issue directly. Overall, this place is very over-priced for the current level of maintenance and management. I would not recommend a stay at Marriott Hilton Head Resort & Spa at this time.
We booked 3 days from 7/26-7/29 room 340 with a “ocean view room” we could not see the ocean from the room due to trees so our view was really not ocean view. The door to our room was hard to open and close, during our stay we had no housekeeping to our room, called the front desk for clean towels which took 2 hours to get. There were no luggage carts available to get luggage in to the hotel, it seemed that staff cater to certain customers only. The waitress were amazing and the food was good, access to the beach was good. Leaks of water here and there. Overall experience was fair, we would definitely not comeback here.
The staff were friendly and the Blue restaurant was very good for in house dining, but the property needs serious work. While we were there the elevators went out, the fire stairs were rusty and in need of repair and there was mold on the lamp covers in our room. We ran into another couple that were flooded out of their room. Marriott needs to step up and spend some money on this old girl if they are calling it a resort and spa. The location is the best feature.
Although this hotel is a little dated, it has a great bang for the buck. Right on the beach, fully staffed, great service, beach rentals, bikes(need to be upgraded), but everyone friendly. Great location, lots to do in the area, ready to come back!
We stayed in room 820, beach front view. Its a beautiful view but I have issues with the room and the food quality. The air conditioning barely worked at times, the buffalo wings were very small and ridiculously overpriced for their size. Salads were advertised as fresh but the croutons were soggy and the salad was turning brown at the bottom. Obviously not fresh. The bathroom was questionable, the faucet for the tub was pulled out of the wall which exposed the pipe, there were stains in the tub. Power outlet in the room were very worn to the point where my phone charger fell out of the wall multiple times. The door to the room could not shut all the way by itself which seems to be a problem with other rooms as well. The safe in the room locked us out even when the right pass code was entered. The vents in the room for the air conditioning were very dirty. The curtains for the balcony are also dirty. I expect higher standards for a resort that charges a lot of money for one night.
We chose to stay at this resort for our honeymoon because it was on the beach and we wanted ocean view rooms. The only thing I have positive to say about this resort is that the beach access is great. Customer service was HORRIBLE!!! the front desk associate Stephanie was rude and not very accommodating. When we arrived I let the front desk know that we were just married and were visiting Hilton Head Island for our honeymoon. Not that it matters but we didnt even get a congratulations or anything. I asked Stephanie if they do anything special for honeymooners she quickly snapped they do not. Fast fwd to checking into our room...the 1st room....the sheets were a yellowish color, the balcony pole was broken, the room wasnt clean. They move us to a second room not much difference in the cleanliness and the entrance door wouldnt shut it was jammed. My Husband goes to tell the front desk about the door, Stephanie quickly snaps again, we already switched you into a new room. My husband quickly responded, that we didnt ask for a new room the door is Jammed. They decide to send someone up to check it.... the maintenance guy says oh yeah this door has to come off... guess what that means.. We are now headed to our 3rd room. The 3rd room was also not clean... but we dare not say anything. They did try to make it up by giving us a 50.00 room credit. which we used on the breakfast that should have free. Breakfast 25.00 pp and it was not worth $10.00. All this to say.... This hotel needs to do better! From the cleanliness of the rooms, to the old worn down furniture in the rooms, BREAKFAST should be free and the staff.. specifically Stephanie needs some lessons in customer service. We had a great time when we left the resort sight seeing and having dinner. If we were to return to HILTON HEAD ISLAND... we would not choose to stay at this resort again.
Place your full faith in the negative reviews. They are, unfortunately, true. Crazy high prices for ...- Outdated rooms, very run down. Felt like the Motel 6.- Mildew smell in hallways and room.- Cold showers every time. Mold in shower. Bugs in shower. Water smelled old/like garlic.- Exorbitant pricing on everything from the only sandwich available at the Starbucks ($8 for a sausage egg and cheese croissant) to the dry turkey sandwich and burger ($16-17) at the poolside cafe. If you have 4-star hotel pricing, you better give a 4-star experience.- We asked the front desk to use a separate card upon arrival for our final charge ... they took our info and never switched the card on file?! They charged the wrong card upon departure. Thanks Marriott.- 2 stars for location and the very kind bellhops.
Its a nice hotel overall, great location, but Wifi is pretty much non existent, our bathroom sink would not drain, even after they fixed it once, I grabbed a safety bar and it literally pulled off the wall, so maybe not enough attention to the details and things that make your stay more pleasant. Also I ice in the ice machine.
Property is beautiful, staff friendly, and a great ocean view, but that’s where it ends. The rooms are not nice and the amount of mold leaves me concerned. It smells musty and old, hence the mold. It looks like it’s from the 90’s and the walls are paper thin. We could hear our next door neighbors entire conversation word for word. The only good thing about the room is that the beds are very comfortable, but other than that, the room had mold all over the place, next to the bed, over the door, ceilings, vents etc I felt unsafe. I would prefer to be farther from the beach in a nice, clean, modern room.
Pools and beach access is really nice. Free beach towels available but way too many people reserve spots with towels and never come to them? No social distancing required but staff wears masks. Mobile key was delivered after I requested checking (5 hours later) and didnt work. Cold continental breakfast ($17.95?) was a big disappointment. Stale items and fruit. For $6 more you can get eggs and bacon. Rooms had the typical beach room weird moldy smell, especially with the AC turned on. TV was nice, can sign into netflix/youtube/HBO. Some of the cable channels didnt come in. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Bathroom layout makes no sense (cannot turn shower on without getting wet, toilet paper hard to reach when sitting on toilet). Staff was nice and friendly
The rooms are in desperate need of renovating. Ours smelled like urine. The AC was half working but not really. It was humid and musty in the room. We asked for an upgrade but there were no other rooms available. The pull out sofa bed was dirty and they supplied no linens for it. The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Wait staff is nice enough but mostly forgot about us when we sat down. The bar service is lacking terribly. The elevators are slow and tiny! The outdoor pool was dirty every day and I never actually saw them clean it. You aren’t supposed to save seats but people did and no one cares. The beach is the only positive. This is a motel. I don’t know why there’s so many good reviews. We won’t be back.
YUCK. Ive been coming to this hotel for 12 years and I will not be back. This property has fallen into a state of disrepair. The building is damp and musty. My room had a strong mildew smell. The furniture and duvet were stained, the carpet was damp. There were multiple water leaks in the building and they had dehumidifiers running. The concrete on my balcony was crumbling... but I wasnt able to use the balcony anyway due to water leaking from somewhere above.
Our room was nothing like advertised. It was to be a ocean view. (See pics). First night AC went out and was out for hours. NO room service during the day to refesh towels etc. Way over priced for what you get. Front desk was not friendly at all. The gentleman loading and unloading the car were excellent.
When you pay almost $2,000 for a room plus $250 resort fees, and you get a room with tons of water damage to the ceiling. I wonder how much mold is growing.🙃
Worst hotel experience of my life. I wouldnt recommend this MOTEL to anyone. AC was out first two nights, we were given our points back for those two nights, so water under the bridge right? No. We stayed from Thurs-Wed and room service never once cleaned our room, changed our sheets or gave us clean towels(we were told when we checked in day four they would come clean our room ). We called on Saturday after the AC came back on to see if they would change our sheets since it was hot the night before and we were sweating all night. The front desk told us housekeeping was gone and they could bring some up but we would have to change them. We werent going to change them and they told us the fourth day was when our room would be cleaned so we just decided to stick it out one more night, but when we walked out in the hallway immediately after the phone call we saw that housekeeping was in our hallway. We only got clean sheets and towels after calling the front desk at midnight when we came back from a night out. When security brought them up they were thrown at the base of the door in a trash bag. And on top of that I had to change the sheets myself! I dont work there so why was I doing their job, and paying for THEM to do it? Staff was less than accommodating and didnt seem to give the slightest ***k about you. Hallway smelled like piss, stains on the curtains(probably mold), uncomfortable beds and pillows, door to our room didnt shut unless you pulled on it, the list goes on and on. My wife is 7 months pregnant and they offered nothing to us when the AC was out and it was 85-95 degrees in our room. We wouldve gotten better service at a Red Roof Inn. The hotel is in extreme need of inspection and renovation. Walls are very thin and we could here the neighbors all night. When we checked out my wife went to the desk and when they asked how our stay was she told them not good at all and the front desk worker didnt even acknowledge it. For the money they charge you would expect more. There is nothing they could do to make me EVER come back to that hotel. Maybe if they bulldozed it, built a new one and hired all new staff.
I am a long time Marriott Member, that only stays at Marriotts when I travel . This was one of the worst Marriott hotels I have ever stayed at. We got there on Monday and they put us into our room when we got to our room, our room smelled like mold, everything in the room was damp. I went down to the front desk and said there was nothing we can do as they were fully booked. So there solution was to put a dehumidifier in our room. They finally got us a new room at midnight with a toddler so we had to move all our stuff to another room. The new room was better but was still damp. The hotel is very out of date, very understaffed. The pool was absolutely disgusting mold was growing under the lip of the pool. The pool was so cloudy that you couldn’t see your feet. The only nice thing that the Marriott had was the beach.I will not be staying here again
Positive: Great location, staff serving at the outdoor restaurant were excellent. Negative: Old property, needs a facelift. Pool music on Sunday ends at 3.30 PM and when the singer lift so did the atmosphere. Food was expensive and sub-par.
I’m a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member, I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past. Over the years the rooms have worn down specifically the bathrooms. I give it a 4 star review because I know they have plans to remodel and The staff were all friendly and helpful which made the room conditions easier to overlook. All of the staff I interacted with this weekend were friendly, helpful and worked really hard to ensure every guest was taken care of. The staff get a 5/5 review. Looking forward to visiting again after a remodel of the rooms.
The location of the hotel is great. However, when I got to my room the TV would not turn on so I was determined to figure it out. Everything was unplugged behind the TV! I was shocked haha. Also, my shower had some random hairs on the wall and in the tub - eeek. The gym was nice.
Very disappointed. Rooms were dated. We checked in at 9PM on 7-29-21 to discover at midnight that the AC was out for the entire resort and had been out since 4PM. This was not communicated to us at check-in. We were told that it was unknown when it would be back on. We had to ask 3 times for a roll away bed for our 9 year old (which arrived at 1215). They did compensate us by not charging us for the night. After contacting corporate Marriott, we were moved to the Courtyard. The pool area and beech access were amazing. The staff was very friendly.
I booked a room at Marriott Hilton Head resort in Hilton Head, SC for Aug 8-9, 2021. I didn’t realize until tonight one day before my stay that I payed $329 for a resort view room. On the website $329 is the cost for Ocean view, $249 is the cost for resort view. But because I booked through a 3rd party vendor I paid a higher amount for a room with a lower value. And of course Marriott nor Priceline can do anything about it. Lesson from the story DON’T USE a 3rd party vendor if you don’t want to pay more for something that you could book through the resort for cheaper. And it doesn’t say much for the Marriott either. I wish I could rebook somewhere else but then of course I would loose the total amount. This experience has really lessened my desire to even stay there.
The location is beautiful and we could see the beach and sea right from the room balcony. So even when we had some rain, we could still sit and enjoy the great view and go out to the beach within minutes when the rain stopped. The pool was good and the the staff very friendly and helpful at the restaurants. The room was clean which we were greatly relieved to see having seen some the reviews here.
Just checked out from a one night stay; if youre on the fence about staying here due to the many negative reviews, Id recommend you try it on for size; we had a great stay.Bottom Line Up Front: Yes, the hotel is relatively outdated and in need of a refresher per the many other reviews. However, other than sleeping, I think we spent about 12 minutes total in our room and/or the hallways that were a little worn and in need of some TLC (time, love, and care). We came to a beach resort to park ourselves in the water with a cold drink in hand, and we had a great time doing that.Other tid-bits:- Lobby area was very nice and updated.- Bring allergy pills as the rooms were a little musty.- Pool has cabanas for rent for $75; I wouldnt recommend wasting your time or money with these, unless you really want to feel like a king next to the pool.- If you enjoy a mid-afternoon nap, request a room not overlooking the pool; the music is bumping from 11-8ish.- The staff were very friendly to us, however I am a Marriott Elite member with relatively high status, so that may be part of the reason why.Overall, we will likely go back to this hotel when we return to Hilton Head, especially at only 35,000 Marriott points a night, and the only Marriott property on the island to accept point redemption.
Totally not worth the price of the hotel. We arrived at 2 for a 4 o clock check in and were understanding of why no rooms were available. We went out for lunch and came back and nothing available still. Fast forward to 8:30 with no explanation we were still left without a room. No luggage carts to transport upstairs. When we finally got into a room. It was smaller than pictures show. Bathroom was old and outdated. AC barely worked. Beach access was nice. Staff was unapologetic. Everything was disorganized and subpar of our expectations. Will not be returning
Positive: The only thing that was good was that it was close to the beach. Negative: I do not have enough room to say what I didn¿t like about this hotel. Overall very bad experience.
Positive: The Spa was phenomenal. The staff greeted and explained every step. Negative: Explanation of charges.
Positive: The location to the beach. The pool area was also great and accommodating. Food was very good and fresh. Negative: Some things seem worn and outdated for the price
WOW Complete Tranquility!Direct oceanfront room absolutely beautiful view + private balcony is a bonus.Friendly and professional staff.2018 AWESOME Christmas surprise from my husband. BEST Christmas EVER!Thank you hubby, I Iove you so much.We will definitely return.
This is the type of place that as soon as you walk in, even though it needs a face lift, you still want to give it 5 stars. Unfortunately I have been here less than a day and the personnel here have made that impossible. From check in being completely rude, no information about the hotel, its events, restaurant locations, or even the free breakfast I didnt know I was supposed to get, to the rude bartenders in Blue, to finding out there are fun events for my kid that no one told me about. When I did go ask for the event schedule I got looked at like I was a pain and then handed one from June! I called room service and asked where the menu was and I was told I had to go to the front desk to get it. I asked what the point of room service was if I had to leave the room to go get it and was answered with silence. This place would be really great if they could get their stuff together. Well see how the next 24 hours goes if its better Ill update but Ive lowered my expectations.
This hotel is rundown and smelled like mold or mildew throughout. We were in the five-story tower and the halls and room had a powerful odor like the carpet had been left wet. I’d expect that in a rundown Atlanta motel, but not a Marriott at this price.
Walls paper thin. No sleep. Had to call security 3 times. Railing so loose on balcony that 2 bolts popped out. Toilet paper holder fell completely off wall. No maid service until you have stayed 3 nights. had to call for fresh towels and to pick up trash from room...other stuff too. 2 of the 3 elevators broke and repaired. Other issues...too many to list.
Awful Experience. $500 a night. The air conditioner broke throughout the property during 110 degree heat index. Management NEVER provided updates but instead lied throughout the whole experience, telling us they fixed it to keep us here. They could have provided us all fans but never even acknowledged the misery they were putting us all through. Beyond the miserable experience, the facility is old, the furniture is stained and the elevators are nasty. They get away with all of this because of the fabulous beach access. But it’s NOT worth it. Do NOT stay here.
The room smelled terrible, there were repairs marks all over the ceiling and the shower head had green globs on it. Management only offered to send housekeeping to check the room. They were full so no place to move me. After putting an ionizer in the room for the smell, it actually smelled worse. My wife and I could not stay there. It was awful. They did not offer to find a room elsewhere.
The good: The view from our room was great and room seemed clean. The bad: regardless of the time you showered the water would get cold even when on full hot multiple times throughout your shower and the drain was super slow. While the AC was set at 65... it was still super damp in the room so that was super annoying. Walking into the hotel and down the halls smelled like a wet dog also.
Went for a week. Just got a hotel room. It was ok. Patio door lock was broken but didnt really care since we were high up off the ground. Had the obligatory kids running up and down the halls at all hours of the night slamming doors. You were told wed get housekeeping twice throughout the week but didnt get the first until we complained 5 days in. Was easy to access the beach from the lobby.
While the location was great — it’s definitely not worth the price.Room was dated. The toilet “gurgled” every night. The room and hallway smelled musty. The laundry room smelled and didn’t offer a change machine. Had to hunt around the “resort” for quarters.Only one working elevator. One exit had five+ stray cats constantly hanging around and smelled like a litter box.Had to find a maid in the hallway to get clean towels.Disappointing for a Marriott. I wouldn’t call this a resort/spa. More of a run down smelly hotel in a great location. Shameful.
I gave this place 1 star but would prefer 0 stars. Was a guest on a business trip. Stayed 4 nights. Air conditioner went out first night, Thursday. It was not fixed until Saturday. Temps outside were 95; temp in the room over 100. Hotel kept signing in guests-WHY? Found out the AC had been out the week before. Management did not even offer fans. Housekeeper on 6th floor refused to give clean towels; put her arms over the cart and told me to leave her towels alone. Toilet overflowed first night there. Requested, and finally demanded, the floor be cleaned 3 times. Maid finally came on third day and mopped the floor. Used business card to pay for the room. The hotel did give a partial refund on the business credit card but the balance due was put on my personal credit card that I had to provide upon check-in for “incidentals only.” Still trying to get my money back, a week later. The hotel is in need of serious renovations. I’m sure it was once very beautiful. Such a shame; I had enjoyed all my previous stays.
Worst hotel I’ve ever been to. The air conditioning didn’t work. Middle of summer and no one in the whole hotel had air conditioning. Our toilet wasn’t working and we weren’t able to get our room fixed. Took almost three hours for them to have our room ready and it was past the check in time that we were told to be here! No one came to clean our room. No One would take our order for room service! They kept transferring me and all we needed was an order placed! Severely understaffed and definitely in need of an UPGRADE! The building felt like it was falling apart and no one wanted to give us any type of customer service. We were very patient. And we’re not the ones to cause trouble or even leave reviews but as a company paid trip from my work I expected better.
Hotel is average....kinda. Pool is beyond packed as everyone from the beach comes up to eat and visit the bar...but that’s normal. Wait staff is understaffed. Waited 1.5 hours for a hamburger and chips. Front desk...now they gets a score of 1. You visit and make your own call on that. For a little more money, and some pre-planning, stay at another hotel. Bell service is on point! They were great.
Havent started our stay yet.1 hour and 20 minutes past check in, and 1 hr 32 minutes past when we were told 30 more minutes..There cant be enough staff. Will update at end of stay.Edit: Staff is excellent,...helpful in every way.Room is perfect for us...beds are greatly comfortable.Everything is looking up day 2.
Our stay for the most part was decent. Although the staff made us feel pretty welcomed, many guests and locals did not. One incident in particular is causing us to likely not return to this Marriott and Hilton Head in general. Upon entering the indoor pool, several parents with a herd of children occupied the room, which was no problem, but, the children were extremely loud, running back and forth between the multiple outdoor pools and indoor pool. Our parents were tucked away in the corner of the indoor pool to allow the children space to play and throw their water toys around. The children became disrespectful moving closer to our parents and intentionally splashing water on them with no corrective action from the parents. The parents all remained seated and found their children’s disrespectful actions humorous. The adults stared at us and allowed their children to act in such a poor manner in hopes that we would leave, which we did due to the level of discomfort we felt. We complained to the front desk, but are unsure if anything was done. Aside from this incident, the ceiling in our room was peeling and created a pile of debris on some of our clothing. The view was great and right on the beach. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that we will return.
The location is fantastic! Literally steps to the beach…. Easy to go jump in the ocean and then back to pool. Beverage and lunch service poolside were very convenient. We were able to find chairs/ umbrella if we got there early in day.
My stay was terrible. The customer service was terrible. The rep that I spoke with at the front desk was rude and tried to rush me off thr phone when I called for towels. The room I was put in had such an old musty smell I had to be moved to another room the next day. I feel that for the amount of money I paid for 3 nights I should have gotten better service.
The worst hotel I’ve been to in a long, long time. The views and pool are awesome, but their staff is the worst people I’ve seen in a hotel crew. Ignorant, rude, have never stayed at a hotel this bad. Would highly recommend anyone with platinum or titanium not stay here, the perks are completely useless. Go to the holiday inn beach resort or the Hilton Head Island tennis Beach Resort, they have great people, do not stay here in 2021
One of our favorites. Always a pleasure to visit here. Clean facility and personnel are friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is plentiful and convenient. We will continue to stop here when we are in the area.
Positive: There was a beach outside to escape to. Negative: Tried to get room cleaned twice and no one came while we were out. Called and asked for clean towels, was told on their way. The next morning I went to the desk and told them to send towels to my room. The amount I spent for this room was negligible for
Well, it’s an old hotel, really needs renovation. Pics are great but I had a feeling that I’m back to the past, sometime in 70-s, had great time though. To add: I really do not know how people on wheelchairs can move there, there was only one rump, to come to it from the elevator you should jump up 5-6 stairs, the access to the beach is also with stairs, no rump. What about people with kids and strollers? I had a wagon with the stuff for my kids, was jumping around with it on the stairs. Location is great but with the renovation it could be the place where I would come back.
Very nice place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of Hilton Head Island. The service is outstanding!
Stayed 3 nights, good location and that is the only positive thing I can say about my stay. Room was in desperate need of renovations, wallpaper falling off the walls, huge scratches on the furniture, holes in the ceiling and deafeningly loud squeak from the faucet every time you turned it on. Extremely noisy, no sound proofing at all, woke up multiple times in the night each night from noise in the hallway or next door. Even the TV would crash repeatedly. To top it off they overcharged me at checkout and it took a solid dozen calls to get a refund. Will never be back. Look elsewhere, $400+ a night will go very far on vrbo, airbnb, or just any beach condo. If Marriott offered me a free stay I would decline because I would only come back here to suffer if you paid me handsomely.
Covid rules are really in place and it was not packed at all! Loved the beach ⛱very clean as well the pool area was nice to hangout at as well.Promise you and your family will have an awesome experience. The only downfall the spa was booked for over a week when we had asked. Other then that it was great.
I totally agree with the abundance of reviews stating this place is in desperate need of renovation. There is zero reason for this location to be a Marriott category 5 property. We travel as ambassador level and have a certain standard for our stays.Lets start with our immediate disappointment on arrival. Theres zero signage and the staff is less than helpful. My initial first impression was that of a zoo with children running free everywhere- this only gets worse in the pool area, where it seems unsupervised children run the place. We didnt even dare to try and sit there and relax- as our dip in the pool was interrupted by balls being thrown everywhere, snorkeling kids, jumping teenagers and just generalized loud debauchery. Now, I am all for family friendly resorts but this was all just too much.We were able to check in early- so that was nice BUT the room we were given was dilapidated and begging for its carpet to be torn up and placed in a dumpster fire. We were unfortunately assigned room 325. The balcony opened up right to the roof- and since they were undergoing some kind of maintenance (hopefully for their leaking ceilings) there were men walking back and forth at any given time. Not the most welcoming for me to feel comfortable changing or even just freely relaxing. The rooms are outfitted with down pillows- and we are both allergic so we requested they be exchanged for foam/cotton. A giant garbage bag filled with pillows was placed outside our door as our replacement. The resort fee does not match the amenities. I think it is important to highlight here that thereIs beach access but that does not include beach chairs or umbrellas- those are provided for an additional fee through the town. The fee does include parking. The shuttle goes basically nowhere and is really only useful for those who are mobility challenged. If we didnt have breakfast included and had to pay $18 for their sad continental breakfast bar I would have been even more disappointed. The breakfast staff were all kind and helpful though.Overall, this place is in need of some desperate attention and we would likely not stay here again without a renovation.
Nice hotel. Pulled in at midnight on a Saturday; parking was a cluster and more obvious signage pointing you into the right direction would be helpful after a long drive, but thats really the only complaint. Service was superb, needed linen at like 1AM and had it in 15 min, great customer service!
I only spent one night and half a day here. The hotel is very nice. The pool deck has a huge pool 3 to 5 feet and then another big pool 10 to 13 feet deep. I never saw this arrangement and it was very nice. There are chairs and lounges everywhere. Lots and lots of shade seating too....the grounds are very nice. Pricey for sure.
The location and view are phenomenal! BUT the condition of our room ($514 per night) was unacceptable. Carpet shredding, paint peeling, shower and faucets leaking, no air vent in the bathroom, some sort of disgusting gunk all over the faucet that would not come off with a Clorox wipe. When we requested to change rooms, they were sold out but offered a $150 credit??? So disappointed...love Hilton Head, but will not return to Marriott Resort.
Nice hotel. Great beach with warm water and great sand.
If you want a good bar experience, visit the Blue lounge bar and see Alexis. She is awesome and will take care of you. Ive had the best old fashion in Hilton Head by her and Im very picky.
This place is a dump. Go stay at the Westin or Sonesta. Stains on the ceiling. I have stayed here several times and everytime I stay a this motel 6 there is a problem. I have experienced the front area by the lobby floods when it rains, a drunk random lady walked into my room. I have no idea how she got in. This place is old and not up to standards. The front desk staff is rude and non accommodating. Gave me a room and said it had an ocean view and it doesnt. Phone didnt work in room (they probably disconnected it to avoid complaints from people because this hotel is a dump). One time we stayed and we found roaches in the bathroom upon check in. Tv hasnt worked on two stays. Today is the last time I will ever set foot in this dump motel.
Best hotel has food shops and a big pool and deep pool a baby pool and Hot tubs and indoor pool with hot tub they play movies in the indoor pool at night the best hotel the rooms clean beautiful property the food was good at the restaurant the room is good ac works fine.
Older hotel, but you sure cant beat the location or the excellent service we received. We slept well listening to the ocean waves. The pool is well organized and inviting with plenty of shaded seating, too. Despite needing some upgrades to the building and rooms, I still have to give it 5 stars. Location location! We will be back!
Bed Bugs!!!! Room 172…this motel and I call it that because absolutely no one here knows what customer service is whatsoever. I tried to stay the night over a month ago and my fiancé was eaten by bed bugs. We left at 5 am because we were told by the lady at the front desk that they didn’t have any clean rooms available and would need to come back at 7 am when someone from management came in. I’ve called the main hotel to report the bed bugs 3 separate times and each time they take my name and number and say they need to “inspect” the room. So this means these past 30 days whoever has stayed in this room has been susceptible to taking these bed bugs back home. I did just learn today after calling the 1-800 number that the motel credited me back half of my points for the stay. At this point they could credit me 30 free nights and it wouldn’t matter. I will never spend my money with this company again.
