We had a very pleasant experience, my mother and my adult son and our little dog Milo were all in the small front area and there were other dogs barking and kittens jumping around but Milo was very focused on the puppy Pluto we wanted to adopt. Pluto is just a 3month old baby so he was very nervous but after like 30 minutes he calmed down and tried to play with Milo a bit. everything went so well that we got to take Pluto home with us. he is the cutest chiweenie ever and he is getting much more confident in the house but its only day 2 but he is just so adorable we all love him. I think the ladys that work at the shelter were very nice, but cautious as they should be to make sure we are a good fit together. I. an imagine they have met some people that were not for to have pets so they have a right to be cautious for the sake of the animal.
I initially had a great interaction at first with the woman fostering the dog. During the meet and greet I was really disappointed with the way the staff set up the meeting and communicated with me in a very unprofessional manner. I was put into a small space that was very hectic and overstimulating with several cats and barking dogs, one who was in a low open cage and growled at my son when he went near the cage. I have another dog and a small child who I disclosed I was bringing with me so the staff was aware beforehand. The environment was really overstimulating and there were 5 other people in the room in addition to at least a dozen other animals. My dog, who is not naturally anxious, was overwhelmed and stayed by the door. I did the best with the visit and was told at the end that the puppy was scared because of my son, which was offensive and also inaccurate because he was well behaved and not aggressive or overbearing in any way toward the dog. One staff member told me that my son would corner the dog and the dog would bite him. I assured her that wouldn’t happen as he lives with two animals and knows to give space and be gentle. She then accused me of not caring if my son got bitten. There was so much going on that it felt very inappropriate to blame the dog being scared on my son and unfair to put a small puppy in such an overwhelming environment. I tried to call to give feedback about my experience and the woman was really rude to me and told me that “she didn’t want to hear it” and hung up on me. It was unfortunately a really negative experience and I left feeling very discouraged and offended. Overall I feel if the shelter is going to accept applications from people with small children or other animals there needs to be a space or environment without so many other people and animals, especially for animals that are in foster homes and aren’t used to that much stimulation and make sure the environment is kid friendly and safe.
They seem to really care about the animals and proper placement. Their fees are far more reasonable than others I saw. The pet I adopted is good natured with a sweet disposition, and meets the description they advertised.
Not a good place to foster. Foster from here only if you live in Illinois. I took 1 hour and filled out a foster form and it said that you can only foster if you live 1 hour away. Misleading information.
Great place, wonderful friendly staff, and amazing good. Highly recommend going here if you want a fancy night out with friends or family.
Ive adopted two animals from ofosa, a dog ten years ago and now a kitty. Thank you guys so much for all your hard work and helping me make sure my cat is healthy and happy.
Very kind and helpful people! The adoption process was quick and easy and we couldnt of loved it more! Plus we got our fur baby from them.
We just adopted a beautiful puppy from OFOSA, and we could have not been happier with our choice. The process was smooth from beginning to end. The foster parent of our puppy was wonderful! She responded to my initial inquiry promptly, arranged a meeting day and she asked all the necessary questions before proceeding. Once she decided we, as a family, were the right fit she sent me detailed information about the adoption process. She fostered two pups from the same litter and I loved how her only request was to keep them together the longest, needless to say this was not long at all, both pups had eyes on them and we end up bringing ours home very fast. The administrator over at OFOSA was great too, she was very detailed with the information, and took her time to explain everything and answer our questions. I will definitely recommend this organization to whoever is looking to adopt an animal.
They were so wonderful and caring as we adopted our newest little furry family member from their wonderful organization.
We appreciated your quick & detailed reply to our email questions. We couldnt believe how much you understood what we were looking for and introduced us to the exact combination of cats/kittens that we wanted to add to our family even though only one of the four cats/kittens were ready for pick up and were posted on the website. Our family couldnt have asked for a better experience.
We adopted our kitten Tuffy here recently. She is the sweetest and our whole family loves her including our other cat. She is a petite girl and needed a little time to make weight to be spayed before she could be adopted . During this time her foster Mom was great about keeping me updated and sending photos. I would definitely recommend this shelter. Thanks for helping us find the newest addition to our family!
This group is Awesome. Animals are safe in their Loving hands.
We recently adopted our newest fur baby from OFSA. The cats foster mom did an excellent job raising her and we are very happy about our new baby! Scheduling a meet and greet as well as the adoption process was very smooth. Please be aware that OFSA does not test their cats for FIV/Leukemia unless they appear sick. This test at the vet runs $50.
I adopted Stella a small 6lb. chihuahua on Jan.2021. After not getting any results from other adoption rescues, i turned to OFSA an got returned feed back on several adoptable animals. The staff and foster mother were truly helpful in every aspect of my adoption of Stella. Since losing my 16 yr. old Dashand i wasnt sure i was ready for another animal, but after meeting the office staff and hearing what the animals had been through, i fell for the tiny little girl. Now a week into having her hear i couldnt ask for a more loving giving dog. She has truly picked up my energy level. thank you to all the volunteers at OFSA.
Adopted my best friend thru this place. Thank you
Very professional. Provided detailed information through the adoption process and follow up too!
Providing a great and needed service. Rescue animals are the best!
We got our new fur baby here. And we are happy we did. They made it easy to get our new dog.
Small organization of kind hearted people doing the best for furry babies.
Amazing place. Got my fur baby from there and most of my friends and family have also.
Great place! Small and staff were kind.
They are wondeful advocates for cats
Good people who take very good care of animals. Kris is very understanding and kind.
Wasn’t much there when we went (not a bad thing) nice staff clean facility
Im going with not professional because not adopting to us because we live 40 miles from Portland area seems just ridiculous. And we found nowhere on their site that says they only adopt to Portland area.Devastated. Why? Just seems unfair! Weve looked for years, finally find a perfect pup and simply cant adopt because we live 40 miles away? Is this normal for OFOSA? Why would that not be in web site info? And if it is, it must be fine print because I looked really well. We would have been such a great place for the dog we found. Just perfect. So bummed. I gave them 2 stars out of kindness. Ill bet they would take our money for donations but wont let us adopt. 😔 Ill change my post and review if they change their heart. Denying a dog a great home makes me feel they dont want whats best for the dogs. They take their pets to petsmart....ANYONE from ANYWHERE can adopt at petsmart. We really didnt want to lose out on the dog we found but just dont understand why they didnt even give us a chance.
I had met one of the kittens under their charge five days ago and when I called about adopting him, I was told he was on a medical hold for a possible infection and they had no idea when he would be available again. I asked if a note could be made, or if I could be contacted when the kitten was available again as I was very serious about adopting him. They were very non-committal and just said “if I remember” and to just call and check their website. I did so over the weekend as they were closed and the kitten was not listed. come Monday morning when they were open again, I asked about the kitten and was told the kitten had been adopted out because one of their volunteers did not realize the kitten was on a medical hold. While I’m happy the kitten found a home I am absolutely devastated and will not be dealing with this organization in the future
Lots of good finds
OFOSA was kind enough to pair us with the absolute best dog for our family. We feel honored to be chosen as her parents. We attended a meet and greet, which went well. I enjoyed working with the foster mom and her son, who told me all about her likes and dislikes, her character and temperment. Thank you, OFOSA, for our beautiful baby boy.
I love what they do, fostering strays is 100% a noble endeavor. However, weve been in twice in the past couple weeks in search of a kitten, and told of where their foster kittens would be, only to go and find they never showed up. No one ever answers the phone, either. The concept is great, but how do they get the pets adopted out if theyre nowhere to be found? Maybe we just caught them at a bad time, but it has been very frustrating. Theres room for improvement for sure.
Kris was on the phone with me twice today, and was extremely helpful and Patient with me on her busy schedule with people in the background and phones ringing. Ive had a great experience with Ofosa Hillsboro and would recommend to anyone looking for a smooth experience looking for a furry friend!
They take at risk animals from high kill shelters, give them the medical attention they need, and make sure they are adoptable. I am a foster parent for them. I love the work they do and feel as if we are making a difference.
I got a rescued Chihuahua from here. Over 8 years ago. And she is my service dog. She goes everywhere with me. She is as close to being perfect as a dog can get. The staff are truly loving and supporting. I refer many people to this organization.
We have fostered a few dogs over the past few years and recently adopted our dog from this rescue. They have been through some big changes, and no longer have a shelter, just fosters. Everyone who works with them does so out of a genuine love of animals.
We adopted a shelter dog and we love him with all his quirks.
They are an excellent organization taking great care of rescued animals
I have recently become a foster for dogs through OFOSA and Ive been very impressed with their mission and dedication to rescuing animals, providing surgerys and medical care before even considering finding a home for them. Great people and I love that they put animals in foster homes not cages!!
The people are very nice!
💗
Just looking to see what animals they have.
I wanted to meet a couple of dogs and I live in the Eugene area. The only option they gave me was to go that day to an adoption event in Hillsboro. I wasn’t able to go that day due to work and being two hours away. They didn’t really offer any other ideas on how I could meet the dogs so it was a bummer. I ended up adopting from a Eugene foster. Seemed easier that way for everyone.
Posts have been made about the lack of customer service. This is an animal shelter. The staffs first priority is taking care of the animal. There are many volunteers who are giving their time and energy and are still learning how to do their job. I waited a bit for service but understood that the volume of animals that must come and go throughout is a huge task that they undertake everyday so I waited my turn!I was helped in a very friendly way. The staff, though busy took time to get to my questions.I adopted Sammy, a male kitten. He became very ill and I called the number given to me for emergencies and my call was immediately answered and I was told to bring my kitten in for treatment. This was after hours, when they were closed. The lady, Cathy is genuinely concerned and caring. She came in on a day they were closed and gave Sammy care. She told me to call any time and I could bring him in.This shelter goes over and above. If they do not get right back to you or answer your call right away its because they are doing the very best they can tending to the animals and getting back to you.
This place is a scam. How places like these stay open is beyond me. Very unprofessional, they don’t know what animals they have, one minute it’s a puppy, then it’s an adult. Then he’s almost an adult so he cost $50 more. And because they make a mistake they lie and say you’re on the wait list cause you know they control that. Same day the dog is magically gone after I threaten to call in this mystery dog that they wouldn’t send me pictures of. Funny part is my daughter is on these sights religiously and that dogs picture has been there for a long time now. Puppy my butt
Great place to foster or adopt! Having it be foster based is great for knowing the temperament of your new pet.
The best and easiest place to adopt an animal
I’ve adopted all of my of my pups from OFOSA, three in total. The staff and fosters are AMAZING, they love and care for their rescues with all their hearts. They were helpful, and patient with all my questions, and sent me home with more than enough supplies to care for my new family members. I can not recommend them enough!
I got my rescue from them. Awesome people and clean establishment.
I brought my newest rescue home from this place. Other than being hard to get through to sometimes (they sometimes get busy), I got really good, friendly service from them. I get the impression they really care about the dogs they are adopting out.Princess is happy to be home with us!
We adopted our new family member from OFOSA. They made it easy. She was well cared for in her foster home, healthy and happy and the transition to our home was easy. They are also here for us post-adoption if we have any problems.
Great customer service very knowledgeable..good smoke 👍
Very informative, nice, and caring. We dropped off a baby squirrel that my son found. They quickly jumped into action raising the squirrels body temp to keep it alive. They then sent the squirrel off with someone who rehabilitates them.
Very helpful! They make pet adoption easy!
Got my dog here! Great staff!
Always helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend.
Great place they matched us with the perfect dog.
They do such a great job helping these animals.
These people love the animals and are amazing
Seemed like nice people there, but - wow. I went to look at a rescue and was really surprised by the lack of cleanliness, urine all over the floor even outside the cages, the animals kennels not tended to and a smell that could truly knock you over. The staff seemed nice in our brief encounter but clearly did not know their dog breeds and seemed inexperienced with dog behavior - letting several dogs run freely through the facility, peeing everywhere, barking uncontrollably and displaying aggression towards each other, yikes! I am sure they have the best intentions here, but I have been to many shelters in my search for the right pets, and was honestly kind of shocked by the lack of organization and sanitation. Isnt there someone that oversees these places, for safety of the animals? Sadly, based on my experience and other reports, this does not seem like a safe place to adopt.
Bland food. Order wrong.
A couple of weeks ago I dropped in to the shelter. I had a dog in mind to visit that I saw on the website. After visiting and learning a bit about her I left to think about this big decision and prepare my home for a dog. I called back on the following Monday and was told that the shelter was under quarantine. The person I talked to knew very little about the dog, but took my name and number while telling me someone would call the following Saturday. Saturday came and went. I called on Monday and explained my situation. She put me on hold and came back to tell me Hazel was adopted Saturday afternoon. Why is such an uninformed, unorganized (I could tell from her voice that she was the one I talked to before) person interacting with the public and why are animals getting adopted from a shelter that is supposedly under two weeks quarantine? Two weeks of preparing to adopt Hazel and now I am just left mad and frustrated. Be wary of what this shelter tells you if you decide to adopt from them. My search for a companion continues, but not from OFOSA.
Really just the best people!!!
Horrible rescue, please do not support. I rescued my boy from one of their events. They had neglected serious health concerns including but not limited to severe pneumonia and extremely underweight. They take in more animals than they are capable of caring for properly.Update: After taking my dog to a vet, the vet was shocked that he was still alive with how severe his health issues were. He is healthy and happy but OFOSA had nothing to do with the recovery and care.
I adopted my cat here 5 years ago. Her name was Emma at the time. They let me meet her and gave me a sort of adoption interview. They were very firm with me that they were absolutely not going to adopt an animal out unless the adoptee was 100% sure they were prepared to give that animal a forever home. While their demeanor was intimidating, I understood and appreciated that they really wanted what was best for their animals. Today she is a happy very healthy sweet 6-year-old cat. I just wanted to say thank you for taking such good care of her and uniting me with my lifetime best friend. My one complaint is that they are difficult to reach for donations. They say on their website that you need to call to make an appointment to donate but they dont answer that line or call back.
Lots of information, great mission
Make sure to call them before driving an hour out to see them during their operating hours. Showed up yesterday (a thursday) at 4:15 and they were closed. Hours on the site show they are open til 5. Cool, thanks for wasting two hours of my time. Ill make sure to donate to someone else.
I saw a post about a dog named Gigi this was on Facebook. They are going to let this dog have babies even though it had a fractured hip. When I told them the dangers of this, they asked me what my business was. I told them I was not a veterinarian, but that I had spoke with one who said it was dangerous, it could re-fracture the hip and be un necessarily painful for her. I asked please dont do this unless the dog is put under or given pain medication or given a cesarean section, as it may excruciating. They said they had the situation under control and would take the dog to the doctor if it needed. Does that sound like a company that is concerned about the animals welfare? Then I stated they could have her in a hospital for a c-section, and it would be $500 as opposed to $2000 if there were complications. They got offended and banned me from Facebook. This dog will have puppies that will be provide more then enough money to take care of a c-section or give pain medication.Yet they are still asking for donations. They will not answer questions publicly on how they intend to use their money or how the care is being provided. Instead they skirt the issue and allow the public to think they are doing more good because they rescued the dog from a kill shelter. Other people were sad about this too, but they kept focusing on all the good they do, instead of the fact they are going to allow this dog to have puppies without intervention. They were probably banned too.Highly unethical standards for a non-profit to not address those concerns and instead ban a person for asking them. Dont believe 5 star ratings from a company who just bans the negative. And certainly dont give money unless you know exactly where it is going. There too many non-profits that are profiting and making people feel sorry for animals and other causes. You should be allowed to ask questions and be concerned about an animals welfare when they are asking for donations.
Great place to adopt pets
Worst experience in customer service aside from Hannah pet society from the moment I inquired about a specific puppy they had listed and called in the receptionist gave me a terrible attitude (maybe she was closing) I was rushed off the phone and any questions I had about next steps was answered with a deep sigh and irritants and was told just to come in and go from there. I came in to the home which carried the puppy no one bothered to greet me or acknowledge my existence for 10 mins of me standing behind this gate and once the receptionist acknowledged me she answers again in a snarky tone Can I help you?! Not what I expect from a pet rescue center... We progress to meet the puppy. She began asking me questions that had nothing to do with my interest in the puppy but rather questions like do you have other pets I said no this would be my first and I respect shelters for second chances she asked does anyone else love with you I said yes my girlfriend who Im in place for. As soon as she heard a smidgen of a reason why she couldnt let me adopt the dog she jumped right into it, rush she told me I needed to bring my girlfriend in to approve of a puppy to adopt when it shouldnt matter when I said we are both busy cant make it in that too bad dogs are still available that if someone else comes in they have no respects of keeping dog for a loving home or care. Its more ran like a business then a animal rescue shelter.Tips get rid of your lazy front desk receptionist with the terrible attitude and disorganized manner. Just cuz you dont wanna sit and file paperwork to do your job you push away families that actually want to adopt dogs and rescue them. Super turned off by this employees unprofessional attitude. I never write reviews but this shelter and this experience with there organization and staff need to get off there high horse and see what the real mission is instead of what can I do to not do my job. Horrible front desk employee atrocious customer experience
Expensive! Clean.
They refused to adopt a cat to my family because my husband could not pre meet the cat. When I pointed out that their web site states thats only the policy for dog adoptions they changed their story and claimed I cannot adopt a cat because our elderly cat had passed away too reciently. I do not appreciate their customer service or assuming the rule of grief counselor.
I adopted my pup from Ofosa last year. Hes an amazing dog and Im so thankful they were able to save him. I had a wonderful experience with Ofosa and the wonderful foster family that took care of him. I would for sure go to them again when looking for a new family member.
Great people very friendly
This organization is wonderful. They go well out of their way to ensure pet health and happy adoptions.
Recently adopted a kitten from OFOSA. Shortly after getting him he showed symptoms of an upper respiratory infection that quickly spread to our other pets. After getting this taken care of the poor kitten started having diarrhea which was due to a whipworm infection. Given the incubation period of 11 weeks and the fact that all our pets are indoor only and were previously healthy I am inclined to believe the source of the infection is the shelter. This too spread to our other pets and has now cost us upwards of $600 in vet bills for visits and antibiotics to attempt to clear up the infection in not only our newly adopted kitten but our other pets as well. I know that it is somewhat expected for health issues to be more common among shelter animals but with this being our first shelter adoption more information should have been conveyed regarding these concerns. Regardless I would not forgo the adoption if I could do it again because this new critter has quickly become part of our family, although that is solely attributable to the kitten and not the shelter.
They are so kind
I have worked with the volunteers at OFOSA for 1+ year now. Ive found them all to be professional, loving people who seek to save pets and make a difference in the horrible euthanasia statistics. Because they are rescuing unwanted pets that were dumped on the streets or in a shelter, not much is known about their medical history. Often these pets have been subjected to horrible health and living conditions. Everyone Ive met at OFOSA is dedicated to the health of the dog and finding families, suitable for each pet. Even after adoption, OFOSA volunteers want to be kept abreast of the progress of the pets acclimation and progress with its new family.
I have fostered dogs and adopted my dog from here. Very sweet and friendly people.
While there are a couple of top-notch small rescue orgs in Portland, you have to be really careful who you support. The problem with supporting low rent organizations that call themselves animal rescue orgs is that youre contributing to a system that has no oversight with regards to animal care standards. Over and over again, in Oregon and throughout the US, legitimate animal rescue orgs have to shut down backyard type rescues that arent providing proper care. People mean well, but they can easily get overwhelmed and before you know it, animals are living in filthy conditions or they arent provided with proper medical care (which is expensive and tends to be neglected when small orgs are trying to save money). If you want to rescue local animals (from Oregon), go to a county shelter- the Portland metro area has 3, each of which could really use your help. If you dont care where the animals come from and you want lots of young animals to choose from, go to OHS or CAT (like most no kill shelters both pick and choose which animals theyll accept from the community and occasionally bring in animals from other states to meet the local communitys demand for kittens/puppies).But most importantly, whether you choose OHS, CAT, Multnomah County Animal Services, Bonnie Hays (Washington County), and Clackamas County, ALL have veterinarians on staff and proper vet care is given to every animal. OHS and MCAS are both AAHA accredited (which is a big deal for vet care standards). If you want to do the most good, the animals in county shelters are the communitys neediest. My problems with this organization are:- theyre bringing in animals from somewhere else when there arent enough homes for local shelter animals we already have- there is no professional oversight over the care these animals are receiving (and because they arent in a central location and spread out amongst foster homes, it is almost impossible to monitor)- a huge portion of their revenue goes to salaries for 3 people (if you check their tax statement at the OR DOJ charity site)
I learned of OFOSA through Fidos Dog Tap House in Tigard which is an establishment where several OFOSA dogs live until adopted. I became a foster home for the rescues until theyre ready to go to Fidos. OFOSA is run by a few people, and many Foster families, who love dogs and volunteer much time, effort, and 💓 to ensure adoptable dogs find loving homes after being rescued from high-kill shelters. We continue to foster and have even adopted our own new little dog from OFOSA. Im sorry to read the reviews where people have had less than ideal experiences. I have no doubts that anyone with OFOSA is involved to do right by rescue dogs and their potential new families. I hope anyone would give them a chance and meet some of their wonderful adoptable dogs!
First of all as of writing this, OFOSA doesnt have a traditional animal shelter. People volunteer as foster parents to the animals then OFOSA does adoptions through petsmart (the one on walker road is the closest one to me) or if you call about a certain animal you see on their website. The volunteers are very quick to respond if you call or email them.Just always be aware of any animals you adopt from any place. Always keep your newly adopted animal seperate from your resident animals for at least a week or 2 because the adopted animal can always have a health problem that can spread to your other animals.I adopted a cat last year who was super sweet and had a nice temperment. But i saw that she was severely underweight (could be from stress) but they had her for months and months. I finally adopted her and the next day she had a really runny nose. I take her to the vet and they also found that she had a bad yeast infection in her ear. I know they cant keep tabs on every single animal, but they didnt have any medical record of having a bad ear infection or even a look inside her ears.Months later i adopt another cat he ended up having worms as i see worms crawling around his tail end. I take him to the vet and they also told me that he has an ear infection too. I look over his medical records and he hasnt been dewormed in 2 years and also hasnt had an ear swab or even a look into his ears.Im not saying to not adopt animals from this organization because the animals need good homes. Just if you adopt a new animal always check everything. Claws, paws, teeth, eyes, ears, butt, etc. every single day because who knows what problems any animal can have.I was told upfront that they dont adopt out animals with health issues. Even though this is the 2nd animal ive adopted with a health issue. I dont expect them to be 100% healthy, but i expect a current simple checkup. Not every pet owner is going to look over their animal unfortunately because they expect the organization to be current and up to date with the animals health condition. This isnt a good or a bad review. Just sharing my experience and hope it helps someone in the future.
Un organized staff. Not enough individual attention given to animals. Accidentally aborted puppies while i was volunteering there
Great place very nice care for dogs and cats and care for the owns of a new dog or cat.
Why is it that the only time you get a review is when someone feels like they have had their toes stepped on? I have adopted & fostered with OFOSA and yes there has been times that communication has failed but never at the cost of an animal. Bigger companies are just as bad or most of the time worse when it comes to communication. The animals come first! These guys are a rescue. They rescue animals from shelters in CA where people think its OK to dump your cat or dog at a shelter because they got board with it or due to lack of training, a puppy get beaten because it peed on the floor or chewed something. These animals are about to be killed due to selfish people that want a perfect pet without having to do anything. Those very frightened, timid, unhealthy dogs and cat come to OFOSA for LOVE, compassion, food, healthcare and some training, so they can find a safe, loving forever home and be added to the family. Some people go there expecting a perfect animal, one that is already potty trained, knows commands and even a few tricks. It isnt going to happen. You have to train a puppy, and older dogs have to be train too, in a different way because they are the ones that remember being thrown out. It takes time for the dogs and cats to settle in and then they get adopted and they have to settle in again, to adjust to their new home, new rules, new people, and sometimes that stress will cause them to get sick.I have been thur alot and could not have made it myself without the support of Cathy and the rest of the people at OFOSA. If any of you watch the facebook postings, I was the foster mom to Brandy. Cathy did not give up on her when some of the local vet said to put her down its not worth it. Let me tell you it is worth it! We fought to help her servive and almost make it but her little heart lost the fight, BUT OFOSA tried. and with Brandies help they now have a plan in place with treatments and information to help the next one that comes down with distemper. They love the animals and they sometimes get a little protective but after the life some of them have started out with, they need someone to protect them.OFOSA have set standards that have helped CA shelters keep the animals healthy. They have worked wonders with medical plans, like when they get a Provo Puppy in and a few week later it is outside running and playing like a normal puppy with no sickness left in its little body. They have had babies born on the bus coming from CA because their owner didnt believe in spay & neturing and when the dog got pregnate they throw her away and go get another puppy. its an endless cycle and OFOSA is trying to stop the unnessessary killing of pets. They have had dogs come in with no hair because the owners couldnt be bothered with getting them to a vet to find out they are allergic or they just simply need a pill everyday. They have had dogs that did not know there was life outside of a wire cage.So next time you toes get stepped on think of the happy little puppy or kitten that was saved and finding their forever home, because animals come first!
Volunteer run animal rescue. Adoptions at Petsmart most Saturdays. Specializes in dogs and cats. Majority of animals are in foster homes. On site medical care for animals in foster.
They take in a lot of sick pets, and they try, but these guys are simply unorganized and most of them, not that smart. It takes them forever to do the simplest of things and they dont communicate at all... I went in to pick up fosters on a Saturday and I ended up falling in LOVE with a kitten there, and was told by 3 different people working there that I should adopt him. I paid full price, and if you have fostered multiple pets, you are supposed to get a discount. When I went to pick up the kitten after his neuter, I was told very basically that my adoption was being cancelled, I couldnt have him, and I would get a refund. This is after showing pics and videos all weekend to my boyfriends 5 year old, who was expecting a kitten. Apparently, I couldnt have him because he had to wait 30 days per Oregon law to be adopted since he came in as a stray and already had a waiting list of 3 families, eventually, he was adopted by the president of the groups friend, not sure what to think about that..... I decided to pick a different kitten. I specifically picked it over its sibling because I was TOLD by the medical personnel that it was a male. I found out 2 weeks later it was a female when it came back spayed, and I was simply told that the paperwork always said it was female so they didnt know why I was so confused. Now this whole time I had been calling it a boy when talking to them, they called it a boy when talking to me too. When I explained that their staff TOLD me it was a boy and that I did not want a female AT ALL I was told that Abi would talk to the president Kathy and the medical personnel who told me it was a boy, Renee. Well, they never talked about it, wouldnt answer my phone calls (they have caller ID) unless I called from a number they didnt know, and would never call me back to discuss my frustration. Now I have also known the president Kathy for about 3.5 years, and she has no respect to call me back. I was basically told that they were going to do nothing for me by Kimberly the receptionist, and yet was told that if I wanted to talk to Kathy I had to come in and sit down with her to talk about it, but shes too busy with dogs that have parvo so Ill just have to wait. Why would I go in there if they refuse to do anything for me? Why take time out of my day to look at her and have her tell me too bad so sad? Finally, Renee answered one day and asked if people were not answering my calls, I was glad someone could finally acknowledge SOMETHING. She also said that she was sorry and that she has nothing to do with this. I said I know she didnt mean too, and I think she is a good person, I just wanted Kathy to call me so I could tell her about what happened and how I was feeling. It was then that Renee offered me to exchange the cat, something that is against their policies. I said I would consider it, but I felt bad doing that and my animals and the 5 year old already loved her. I still wanted a call from Kathy. That call never came. I called on a Sunday knowing people are there, and I called until they answered because I know they dont answer my calls. Kathy answered, said she only did because I was blowing up the phone and she thought it was an emergency. I told her I was calling because she has yet to call me back and I have been waiting. She refused to discuss it with me unless I came in and said that she was told I wanted to exchange the cat. I told her that I did not, and that if she would have called me back she would know that. They have no respect, they are disorganized, rude, and need to get it together. Way to loose yet another volunteer because of your issues and attitude. Good luck ofosa.
I was at the local PetSmart and fell in love with this cute little kitten. She was a Tortie, all face and feet. When I first saw her through the window, I knew I had to have her. I asked the petsmart people if I could see her and they told me I had to call someone and she would show me the kitten. I called and she scheduled a time for me to come and see the kitten.I loved her from the first time she set her paws on me, and I knew I had to have her. I adopted her and took her home, 3 days later after she was home, she started coughing and sneezing. I called my vet and he said she had an Upper Respritory infection. She got very, very sick, I called OFOSA upset. Tiffany talked to me for a minute, and then put me on hold and went and got the veternarian tech, and she told me they would help my kitten get well. I took her in and they took care of my kitten for a whole week. I got her back and she was really thin, and they gave me some special food for her. I have talked with my vet and investigated and found out it is common for cats to get Upper Respritory infections, when they are in a shelter. My kitten is 6 months old now, and I find new and wonderful things about her all the time. If I ever decide to get another pet, I will get it from here.
The interactions that I have had with this place have been bad. The staff have been massively unhelpful and unprofessional.
Good people doing good things
