Dont believe the open time- Twice he showed up after 11 am. Quality of cut is inconsistent - fist time was decent and second time was horrible. $30 seems too high for this place. Save your time and money
I got a haircut here after 5 months in quarantine and I’m really happy about the results. Daren was a real professional, listening to what I had in mind and doing something even better. Just a heads up, you need to make an appointment beforehand because of the COVID situation. Just call him and reserve a time.
Darren is great. Accommodating with his appointments gave both my kids a great haircut.
Very punctual and clean. Loved my hair cut!
Always Late. $30 for this unprofessional place is a lot. Too many fake reviews here
Hey everyone. I’m Mike and I just got my cut done by Rutgers Barber Shop newest sensation. She was attentive and very through. I can also say all of the employees there do a great job in achieving exactly what you want if not more. If your ever in the area or wanna go to a new barber, swing by. You get a few laughs and a spectacular cut.
This place as I have known has been there since 1973 when I first moved to HP. Owners, employees, have changed. An institution! I dont know how they cut hair as I never went there, but you dont get to be an institution by doing what you pick when you curb your dog or other significant other.
By far my best experience at a barber shop. Thats not an exaggeration, just the truth. I highly recommend Rutgers Barber Shop! The environment is very laid back with that old school barber shop vibe. Whether youre going there for the first time, or a regular, youre welcomed and treated to a quality cut regardless of the style. Ive been going there for a while and Ive always felt like its a place that I could just chill out at even if Im not getting a cut.The staff is friendly and engaging and are great with kids. My little brother has been going there since he was 8 and he refuses to have his hair cut by anyone else than the staff at Rutgers Barber Shop.As far as the price goes, youre paying for a quality cut. Ive been to world renowned salons and paid more than Id like to admit for a cut that I wasnt crazy about. Here, youre paying $25 for something fresh, clean, and always on point. And compared to other salons and barber shops in the area, its by far the best for the price.
Place is pretty great. Been here 10+ times and never had a bad cut, no matter whos giving it. Barbers are all friendly and help you decide on a good cut. Probably only downside is the wait on weekends can be pretty long.
Tried several places in town to get a simple and even cut(harder than it sounds sometimes I guess). The Rutgers Barbershop did a wonderful job with my hair and the barber is extremely friendly. If you are in highland park definitely check it out for your haircut needs.
Great hair cuts, progressive for young and old alike. A master with a straight edge and hot shave for a detail finish feels great. Tell him lightbulb Lenny sent you.
For 30 dollars you can go to Made Man or razor-sharp, both of which are far superior to this shop. Their cuts are not bad, but you can bet far, far better haircuts for the same price. Id pay about 20 max for this place. Id suggest the places Ive mentioned for the same price but far superior haircuts.
After 10 years of bouncing around different barbershops, Rutgers Barbershop is finally the place I go to get my haircut. Darren, the owner, does a phenomenal job with my hair and beard style, cutting it just how I want it. If you’re being cut by one of the other barbers on staff you’re also in great hands.
Been getting my haircut by Daren since 2009. Awesome barber and dude. Highly recommend him.Great atmosphere in the shop too.
The only barber in Highland Park who listens to exactly what I want. Dependable, skilled, affordable. Now most of the guys I work with go here too.
Great experience! Daren by far is the best barber around. I told him what I wanted and thats exactly what I got. I will definitely be a returning customer.
I moved into the area a year ago and have been going here ever since. The barbershop has a great atmosphere. I’ve gotten a cut from all of the barbers here and never dissapointed. I would definitely recommend this barbershop.
These guys know how to efficiently and carefully make great cuts and trim beards. I wasnt satisfied with another barbershop, so I tried these guys, and I have always gotten the cut I was looking for. Great guys.
My first time going here and Im really pleased with my haircut. Good attention to detail, really nice guy - we had a good chat. It came to $30 for a fade and a trim. However, I did have to wait for quite a long time; close to an hour. They had only one barber working (on a Monday), so that was not ideal. Luckily I wasnt in a rush.
Clean, social, old school feel with some guys who put out quality cuts of all types. Ive seen them perfect all kinds of hair, and Ive never left disappointed. Highly recommended
Going here 10 years strong. Never a complaint and staff is awesome. Shop always super clean!
As a Rutgers student I needed a fresh cut but was not happy with the reviews other places in the area got. Decided to check Rutgers Barber Shop out and I was very impressed. These are real cool guys running the shop, who specialize in contemporary AND classic cuts. You will get a good cut if you know what you want. A wide variety of guys came in to get cuts, some received crisp fades and shape ups while others like myself received a skillfully cut high-and-tight. Would differently go again. Wouldve received 5 stars if this place didnt charge 25 a cut, which is a little steep in my opinion, but you will not walk out disappointed.
Very friendly staff, skilled and flexible. Got a modern style haircut at a reasonable price. Hot lather and straight razor finish was awesome. Definitely recommend.
Good cut, employee Dan was a great, funny person to have a conversation with.
Love this place! Ive been coming here for years and Ive never been disappointed by a haircut.
Have gone here regularly for a few years and have always been completely satisfied. Would highly recommend.
They know how to cut hair, unlike some of the bargain chain places. If you get a bad haircut here it’s probably your fault. It’s a little bit more expensive than the bargain shops, but you get what you pay for. Been here several times and haven’t found anywhere better.
Great place and very good service. My haircut and beard came out better than I thought it would.
The Best Barber Shop in the Area Great price and service.
The first time I tried and definitely good !!!! I’ll definitely go again .
Great barbers with incredible skills, but they don’t open at 10am. They open when they feel like it. Currently waiting in the cold and it’s 1017am.
So inconsistent. Sometimes you leave feeling great and sometimes you dont. Very pricey for what it is.
I have never heard of $30 for a haircut, from a barber shop at least. I wish I would have read the reviews before going there, the prices were $25 4 years ago apparently. I can get a great cut for half that price anywhere in New Brunswick. But people keep paying I guess cuz they’re still open. Kudos to them but I know I’ll NEVER go back. $30!!!!!!!! 2 stars only cuz the cut was fine. But damn $30......
I dont remember his name but one of the young guys that works there cuts my sons hair very nice
Does nobody in this neighborhood know what a classic taper hairstyle is anymore? Isnt that the standard at any school? Or does the Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling hand out licenses to anybody now? If not, just Google it!Twice now, at two different barbers in Highland Park, I go in telling the barber Im growing my hair out and aiming for the classic taper hairstyle. I just need the sides and the back trimmed so my head doesnt look like a puffball. The first barber gave me a very short high fade (BACK TO SQUARE 1). So I went to Rutgers Barber Shop, thinking theyd be more detailed as the reviews say, considering they charge double what everyone else charges. WRONG. Again with a high fade!Definitely not going here again, definitely not worth the $25 when several barber shops within 5 blocks can do the same exact fades for half the price!
Great shop old school feel the master barber is the greatest I get my cut the every week
This place is way too expensive for a haircut. I paid $28 for a simple tape up. $28?!? I didnt even get a shave!! I guess you pay for the atmosphere
Great haircuts - nice people - fun place to go - Im a regular customer and really like the place
Nice, clean barbershop very friendly and talented barbers. My grandson loves it
The staff is really great and the they cut the hair in the way you ask them to.
Tried a few barbershops in the area, but settled on Rutgers Barber Shop. Been coming here for a few years now. Consistently great cuts from everyone on staff.
Best haircut around hands down. Professional and quick. I refer this barber shop to all my friends you should to!!!
Quality haircut for a quality price, use hot shave with razor finishes, Sharp and clean fades, seen people get long hair thinned out and trimmed, pompadour cuts on white or Indian clients and quality barbers are only the ones who cut here. Only people who might not have been satisfied couldnt explain their haircut lol. These guys give the best cuts in middlesex county.
30$ for a simple buzz cut, that says it all really
Been going here for years. Great haircuts and nice staff. I refuse to go to any other barber.
Great haircuts, but no appointments and only 2 barbers so service can be on the slow side.
For 3 years it was the only place Id allow to cut my hair. Lstar is the best. However long the wait, its worth it.
Prices are higher than the average barber shop and there only 2 chairs, so at time the wait can be lengthy. But you get what u pay for great cut, warm towel shave.
Over priced and shady - Inexperienced staff, well can we call it a staff? The owner looks like he will steal your wallet when you ar not looking. Overcharging college kids and looking to steal is the feeling here.Go find someplace else to go... this place is NOT good.
Lost at least 2 customers I saw. Came at 10:30, should be open. Waited until 11:10. Still nothing. No hours on the door or window. Embarrassing.
Over price and terrible service. No mannerism.
Very knowledgeable barbers who are welcoming and know how to give a great cut at an affordable price. Went here and not looking back
Extremely over priced for extremely average haircut. I didnt get a tape, or a fade, or anything other than 5 minutes of buzzing and 5 minutes of scissor work, and was charged $25 for what is $15 at most barbers. I even walked out with uneven sideburns, and had to fix them up myself. As much as I cant stand going to a chain like Super Cuts while Im at school, its places like this (that overcharge) that keep me going back for a cheaper average cut.
Barber kept one sideburn approximately 2 inches longer than the other. Poor attention to the detail.
I think the barbers here arbitrarily decide a rate based on their mood. Yesterday the barber charged me $30 for an extremely average haircut. Never going back here.
Great haircut
Great cuts every time!
Great atmosphere, excellent barbers
A little expensive but decent cuts
Star is the best.
Excellent service
