Its very unfortunate that Im having to leave this review as I came to Chahal & Associates with the hope of finding a long term CPA for my personal and soon to be business tax needs. They have stellar yelp reviews and that was a big consideration and deciding factor for me even though their rates are substantially higher than other firms I contacted.Last year my taxes were a little more involved and I was told fees this year should be lower. Turns out the fees came in even higher and the biggest blow came when I received a straggler tax doc after my taxes had been filed and submitted. I contacted their office via email and asked how this would be handled as my tax return had already been submitted. After a week I received an email stating an amended tax return had been filed and I owed an additional $200 for this service.Needless to say I was a shocked at the invoice amount and the fact that instead of notifying me ahead of time that this is how this would be handled and giving me an option to proceed, it was done and I was on the hook for additional costs. I let the girl know that this should have been communicated in advance. I received a call stating the fee would be waived- which was much appreciated.Fast forward a couple days and I received an email stating that due to a shortage of staff they would no longer handle our filing for 2020. Clearly this is a very passive aggressive response to my disputing the additional fees and just over all unprofessional and hostile.And if in fact they do have staff shortages, its not sound business practice to start dropping existing clients instead of meeting future staffing needs a year in advance. This makes me very weary for their current and prospective clients as they may begin to drop them without any consideration. I reached out to Navjeet who stated this was not a retaliatory move and that he would be happy to keep me on. At this time I asked him about a tax credit that I felt they missed and he stated that he could file an amended return at a cost. I agreed to this fee but it turns out that he needed to verify something w the IRS and he passed that obligation on to me. If I wanted to spend an hour plus on hold with the IRS I would have done my own taxes and not gone to a tax specialist who should be versed on the tax law and handle all inquiries for me- especially given how high their tax preparation fees are. Needless to say I decided not to proceed w the amendment. Thinking I put this experience behind me, I was surprised when I received an email from their office. Turns out they forwarded me IRS correspondence for another client in error- this is very unsettling. Needless to say my experience was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional.
