As for shelters this place is pretty decent. The food is great. The staff does what they can to help. The only thing is the lack of control over the clients. Continual arguing and fighting. You must leave at 630 rain, snow or blistering cold. Its way better than sleeping outside.
I spent 3 months at the Open Hearth after coming directly from Cybulski Pre-release Facility, a level 2 Connectivity correctional center for short timers. I didnt appreciate how wonderful the place is.For most guys finding a job is the biggest hurdle faced when released from prison. Those fortunate enough to be at the Open Hearth have the help of 2 full time employment counselors to virtually guarantee every ex-con a decent job.The food is bountiful and generally delicious except every piece of meat is cooked beyond recognition. The staff members are are generally very kind and helpful. The arentloads of unnecessary or silly rules. Residents can go outside for a smoke 24/7and smoking is very popular. If you have to be in a halfway house, it would seem hard to surpass all that the Open Hearth has going for it.This place deserves 5 stars and it must be remembered that the Open Hearth has been helpingmen since 1876,..
Good counselors that will assist obtaining jobs.
Ghetto and the shelter section smells like Feet. And some of the staff are very rude and disrespectful. An overall decent halfway house.
