We called whitmers days ago and told them we had a bad wheel bearing on our car that needed fixed before we left town today. They say bring it in around 12 Thursday. Brought it in an hour early only for them to then tell us they couldn’t fix our car today. We’re going out of town so once we found a shop who could fix our car we went to pick it up from Whitmers. Charged us $30 for them to do nothing after THEY told US to bring the car in and then could not fix it. It’s a shame you try to use a local shop and this is the practice? To top it off the other shop is charging us $75 less.

Do. Not. Go. Here. This is almost two weeks after my initial appointment. I waited for a second opinion before writing this review, but here’s my story. Buckle up and get a snack because it’s a long one.My state inspection was very overdue, but being a one car household made parting with it very difficult, so I looked for a place close to my home and found Whitmer’s. Some reviews spoke highly of them, so I took a chance and made an appointment to have my state inspection done with an oil change. When I arrived and entered the welcome area the air was thick with stale cigarette smoke and looked very uninviting. To go with the uninviting atmosphere, the receptionist was very curt and seemed to be angry. My appointment had been at 11:00, but I arrived ten minutes late, so the receptionist informed me they’d have to do it after lunch and that it’d be “sometime after lunch” that it’d be done, but couldn’t give me an exact time. Since I was late, even though I had hoped to have it within two hours, I took responsibility and said it’d be fine. I walked home. About three hours later I get a call telling me my car “Is all done and ready to be picked up”. When I arrived to pick it up right before they closed, I saw that I had missed a call from them a few minutes before with a voicemail informing me again the car was “done and ready to be picked up”. So, you’d think my car’s work had been completed and all was well. I had walked with my puppy, so I picked her up and walked in, and the receptionist was pleasant for the first and only time when her and another woman working there complimented my puppy. She then picks up my file and tells me my car is going to need some work to pass inspection. She informs me the car needs a few parts replaced; both the windshield wipers need replacement and something under the right side tires and that all in all that work would cost around $300. I was honestly baffled because in every other instance when my car needed work to pass inspection in my 15+ years driving and 4 cities I’ve lived in, every shop has always called with this information and given me a quote and the option to get the work done before rejecting the inspection. I asked why I hadn’t been informed because “I would’ve preferred to get the work done today before picking it up” and she very abrasively answered that “We wouldn’t have gotten to it today anyway”. Nothing else. I said $300 was a lot and that I would take it somewhere else and she got oddly defensive and stated that because I’d asked for the quote and she was giving it to me. She then proceeds to tell me that for the oil change, rejected inspection and new filters I hadn’t consented to buying it’d be $95. I paid, and she finished our interaction by telling me that if I returned within two weeks they’d reinspect it for $1 (that’s the law).Once in my car, I called our trusted family mechanic at Shank’s Auto Repair (who my family has seen for a long time but they’re so good they stay super busy) and got an appointment ten days later to see what they thought. Wouldn’t you know that I just got off the phone with them, they checked it out, and according to them “There’s the slightest ding on the part but by no means does it need to be replaced to pass inspection. It still has a good life but we can keep checking periodically to make sure it’s fine.” The bill is $50 to reinspect it and change the windshield wiper blades.All in all, I’m happy I didn’t get the phone call because I would’ve approved the work out of convenience, so their own malpractice cost them money. But I do feel the need to spend 25 minutes writing this review hoping I save someone else from encountering this type of service. So sad, because they could have been a great local mechanic to give my business to.

Did some things I didnt ask for and charged me for it ? All I wanted was 4 tires and an oil change. I got a 10 dollar lube ? 7.95 for brake fluid ? 3.00 for antifreeze. 2.5 hours later sitting in an un air conditioned waiting room hot as heck. No need to return.

The worst service ever !!! Front brakes alignment 2 control arms 2 tires 1,100 !!! Not to mention did not put correct size tire on my car and put my back (rwd) tires on the front .My tires was shaking I had to drive back for them to switch my tires around!!! I received hep from state to fix my car they obviously ripped me off saying my control arms was just 450.00 for parts !!!! Instead of fixing the issue they argued with me about the tire size didn’t matter if was 245/255 IT DOES MATTER !!! My car is back in shop for a oil leak took it to mid Atlantic motorworks they said the control arms that was put on was the most basic model !!! And yet they charged 450 !!!! I wouldn’t give it one star do NOT TAKE YOU CAR HERE !!!

I have an odd tire size that most places dont keep in stock, Veronica made great effort to get my tires to the shop and get them on that day! The big chain tire stores give you the couple day runaround, and your money goes outside our community. Do yourself and the community businesses a favor and keep it local. Thank you Veronica!

As a young woman, I get pretty tense and nervous when I have to go to get an auto repair or inspection. Whitmers exceeded my expectations. The price was low and my tire repair was excellent. Extremely friendly and laid back staff put me at ease and I was back on the road in no time.

We just moved to the area and were looking for a locally owned automotive service center. Whitmers answered the telephone right away, got us in right away and did good work. It is always fortunate when we find an honest and customer service friendly place to care for our cars and Whitmers is a keeper.

They were amazing! I was prepared for a $600 bill, but they were able to fix rather than replace a part and saved me more than $400. What was so impressive was their honesty and willingness to build a customer relationship over collecting a bigger bill. Will definitely be going back!

They are so helpful, I had a blown tire on the way to take my cat to the vet, and they got me two tires for a good price. They was so sweet and understanding. I would recommend them to everyone, great people!

My vehicle inspection showed an issue and they were able to repair it immediately and very cost effectively. No angst, no drama about the issue, just routine excellent customer service and automobile repairs.

I will never ever take my car to this place for any work.This place is a RIPOFF place. I had them to replace two tires, after replacing those two tires they told me the Wheel bearing on the passenger frontside is bad and need to be replaced and they put a $460 bill in front of me. And they told me they MUST do the alignment, as well. As curiosity I took my car to MIDAS asked them JUST to do the alignment, Guess what they did the alignment and found NOTHING wrong with the Wheel Bearing. I report you decide. This place to me is a RIPOFF place.

They take such great care of me and my Mazda. I live in Hampton and drive up there because I love it so much. They first helped with my Grand Prix, and now they help me with my Mazda. Much better than Firestone or Midas.

Hands down the best tire shop in town!! Extremely friendly and quick. Always thoroughly goes over your car. Sincerely cares about their customers safety.

Great prices on tires but terrible prices on service (parts and labor). I was advised that I needed outer tie rod ends, a right upper ball joint and pitman arm for $905.00 including an alignment. I can get get the parts for under $120.00 at Napa so the markup is ridiculous. I then asked what just labor and the alignment would cost and it was roughly $520.00, what a ripoff. I went to Big L in Elkton as they quoted me $250.00 for the labor and alignment and they jacked the truck up just to ensure I didn’t need to buy any other parts and turns out I only needed the ball joint. So for $20.00 in parts and $100.00 in labor and alignment, I am saving $785.00 on parts and labor I don’t need. Again great and friendly when it comes to tires but do not get any other services taken care of there. Also very disappointed in how I was talked to when I called to discuss the situation. They were very definsive and unreceptive. I was not hateful, just wanted to state what had occurred.

They are kind, helpful, and have treated me fairly.

I cannot recommend Whitmers enough! I had a brake malfunction while traveling through Harrisonburg. I had set up an appointment on New Years Eve to get my brakes and rotors put on my Mercedes just to have that company tell me they didnt have the computers to finish the job. I HAD to get my car fixed that same day so I could leave and get home before New Years Day. EVERY car place I called couldnt get me in, but Whitmers worked their magic and got me in right away and had my car ready to go by 3pm that afternoon.If I ever need service on my vehicle in that area again, I will certainly choose them! WHITMERS TIRE IS A TOTAL RIPOFF ! ! ! they charged me 1489.00 dollars for a cadalitic converter, low quality tires cant even get michelin tires . I wouldnt even recommend whitmers tire for a state inspection the head mechanic failed my truck because he said the blinkers didnt blink at the right speed . . . yeah . . . I took my truck to auto experts on rt.33 across from blue ridge tire got the truck inspected right away and we all got a good laugh out of that one but I guess the joke is on me for a 1489.00 dollar cadalitic converter, Im aware of the fact that a converter contains platinum but are they solid gold ? the most expensive converter I could find on line for the make and model of my truck was 186.00 dollars and that was a genuine G.M. factory part. 1303.00 in labor for a cadalitic converter ? WOW ! ! ! . . . NEVER AGAIN

The place is full of cigarette smoke. We went to the place and they said the window cleaner on the right side was bad. It replaces it. They told me that was it. Upon arrival I was told that the other windshield wiper was not good. They told me it hadnt happened yet. They beat me around and wanted to charge me triple the rest. I went to another more professional inspection place and they only charged me $ 16 and everything passed. This place tries to take advantage of peoples desperation.
