I am actually not a student and moved here early august to start my career after graduating this past may. Campus view has been great in all aspects. Everyone is mindful of each other and the staff really takes initiative in trying to get people to meet each other as well as engage with residents through events. Campus view is affordable and a comfortable place to live whether you are in the midst of college or freshly out into the new world.
Overall a great experience living in campus view. The furniture is comfortable, the amenities are nice, and we have nearby pool access. My only complaints are the dishwasher doesnt dry some dishes very well, there is no pantry for extra space, and my toilet is a pain to flush. Those are all minor, however, as I do enjoy living here!
My roommates and I moved in this summer and have had a good experience thus far. The management team was very responsive and fixed an issue with our disposal almost immediately after reaching out to them. I’ve also enjoyed being able to use the 24/7 gym. The pool is great too!
Campus View is a good price for a good living situation. I enjoy having my own bathroom and the apartments are spacious and generally in good condition. There are a few issues that have bothered me since living here for three years now. Guest Parking has been a huge hassle. We are only allotted 1 guest parking tag for the whole apartment and there is rarely any available spots in the one small guest parking lot on weekends. I have had to pay for towed cars three times because my friends would come to visit, and because the lot was full, have no where to park. Management is also difficult to get in touch with. Multiple times throughout the years my roommates and I have had questions or concerns about our apartment and found it very difficult to get in touch with anybody in the office. However, overall Campus View is a great housing option for the price, amenities, and location.
Love the cleanliness and functionally of the apartment, especially for the price! Leasing agents have been incredibly helpful and always a pleasure to talk to
On the louder/more lively side of apartment living I have experienced. I am not a JMU student but dont mind being in the area where many of them live. They are good at fixing problems when they arise. Socials are nice as well because you win free starbucks and they give opportunities to win money all the time. Why else am I am leaving a review... lol
Good price for value! Definitely has everything you could need and then some with great amenities!
Campus View offers great amenities and cozy apartments! Its been a great experience so far!
They tried to charge us each an additional $300 for caret that was not replaced, in addition to keeping all of our security deposit. We contacted them many times saying that there was no need for the living room carpet to have been replaced (especially since we only lived there for five months due to COVID) and they kept talking in circles. They eventually even sent me court papers. After calling the carpet company and maintenance we discovered that they accidentally replaced the carpet in our apartment when it did not need to be replaced. This went on for months and they finally gave us our money back. However, if we had not done all of the digging ourselves they would have kept over $500 from each of us for a mistake that they made.
Management isn’t the best but the apartment itself is nice!
This business/ company has poor communication, needs a more organized management and is very manipulative. If you sign with this company, you will find it very difficult to get things done and will end up having to walk to the office in person many times to complain.
Please be aware that Matchbox Realty/Campus View Apartments offers compensation for positive reviews which is a violation of Googles TOS. Instead of cheating, maybe start respecting your tenants then we wouldnt feel the need to leave negative reviews.
UPDATED: (this used to be 5 stars)It is very affordable housing for college students. Some of the buildings aren’t as nice as others but the quality is still there. I do love that each room has its own bathroom. Some of the furnishings can be older but mine were updated and decent quality. Maintenance is also very sweet and responsive. But here is the kicker..... Terri Miller.... you are the worst property manager ever. I never got responses from you. I didn’t get a response when I emailed asking about a temporary parking pass on a borrowed car when my vehicle wasn’t operational. I didn’t get a response when I was looking and applying for apartments and nobody could get ahold of you for references and I spent a FEW HUNDRED on application costs to any place that would take me. When I asked those places why I wasn’t making the cut, it wasn’t my income, it was you. Those weren’t the only times but those were the two big ones. AND THEN on the day before I needed to move out, I got this LOVELY email from you saying that THAT DAY I had to be out by noon or else the law would get involved (not the next day like I had been told for some time), nope, you sent me such a lovely, sweet email reminding me that I was in a stressful panic trying to find somewhere to live without references because you didn’t respond. Your responses were all I ever needed from you. Thanks for making it easy to leave Campus View. Thanks for making my life all the more stressful. Thanks for helping my fiancé and I lose multiple homes that we wanted to start our marriage in. Thanks. For nothing.
Campus view is awful. Our AC unit has been broken for a month now and the solution from the front office is to hand out box fans instead of figuring the issue out.
I have been a resident at Campus View for almost two years now. In February 2020 I made the decision to renew my lease and I soon regretted this decision. Signing the lease was a hassle due to the lack of communication. When I was finally able to get in contact with someone I had to go through 3 different people and call multiple times just to get a solution. I do understand that there was a change in management and with that comes an adjustment period but it has been months and we are still experiencing the same treatment. Emails go unanswered and calls are almost never picked up. Due to COVID-19 one would think that the communication would be top priority since the office and clubhouse are closed. Twice now the storm has knocked out our internet. I am currently taking online classes but am unable to access my schoolwork because of this. I have been reaching out but no one has been in the office (even though it is during business hours). I didnt find out until the second email that staff will be out of the office until August 3rd. Parking is another issue since there is only one visitors pass per unit and one visitors parking lot. One morning in June, maintenance was checking the fire alarms but we were given maybe 2 hours notice before they entered the building. Overall my experience here has left me feeling like management doesnt care about their tenants and I would not recommend living here.
I have been living in Campus View for about a month and I already regret moving here. I signed the lease in February 2020 and have had nothing but problems since then. The management is the worst management I have ever experienced in my entire life. They never respond to emails, it’s rare if they answer the phone, i’ve called many times and gotten an answer maybe 3 times. Our table and chairs have been broken since I moved in from the previous tenants, but no one will replace it. The worst part is there is only one visitor parking pass for 4 people, I would like to know how someone thought of that and said it was a good idea and went with it.
While I like the apartment and find it to be a decent value at under $500/month, the management severely lacks the communication necessary. Several times throughout last year (2019) and over this summer (2020), I have contacted the management and am yet to receive a call or email back.Maintenance has been great, any issues are taken care of quickly and without issue, but the on-site management really seems to struggle. This seems to be a property issue more than anything, as we had at least 3 different property managers in the span of 6 months during the 2019-2020 academic year.Parking is horrible, 1 guest pass to share between 4 people in the apartment is a joke... add to that, guests still have to park in the guest spots in the middle of the complex. There is plenty of parking to allow more than one guest per unit, it seems to be a “joint venture” with the towing company more than anything.Edit: 9/2020. Internet continues to cut out while all 4 roommates are on the WiFi for class, unacceptable during a pandemic forcing us all online. Furniture is cheap and wears incredibly quickly. I wouldn’t be shocked if they try and charge us our security deposit for the wear and tear on their cheap furniture. My second year living here is surely my last as I’m sure they will try and raise rates again. Better options just up the road from here.Edit: 10/2020. A/C unit broke. Still don’t recommend you live here.Edit: 7/29/2021. Took time off work for a scheduled call with the property manager to discuss my move out inspection (they were happy to do so given COVID concerns). Never got a call. Typical for this company.
Does not respond to maintenance requests. Complain about neighbors partying and playing loud music 24/7 and they do nothing even though we are in the designated quiet building. Completely unresponsive staff and disrespectful management. Furniture was torn apart on moving in. Stove not working. Refrigerator not working. You can get faster wifi in a public library in 2004. Do not rent here.
I lived in Campus View from August 2014-July 2017. I lived in the same apartment in that period time and I must say, as an off campus living experience, it was amazing. For the interior, the furniture is comfortable and works well. If anything was ever broken, we would simply email Lacey and our things would be replaced. Appliances were fairly new and worked quite well. If anything wigged out, maintenance was timely and took care of things wonderfully.Lacey was great. She recognized all of us that lived in our apartment and was always kind and professional. The only tiny thing that sucked was my room was on an exterior wall with poor insulation. In the winter, my room and especially my closet were absolutely freezing. This leads to unfortunate electric bills in those winter months, but I didnt expect perfection from apartment buildings that were built quickly!Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend living in Campus View.
I lived in Campus View for 2 years (2017-2019) and I enjoyed my stay. Fast forward to October of 2019, I haven’t been in the apartment since May and my roommates and I lose our security deposit and now have to pay $120 each in repairs. We never broke a thing and hardly ever utilized the living room. Yet, they say we had a cat (which we did not) and they replaced all the furniture, ripped-and-replaced the carpet, deodorized the place because they said there was a pee smell. The furniture is cheap (the couch and chair were already deteriorated when we moved in), they falsely accuse you of owning a pet, and they charge you whatever they want when you leave because they are a college apartment complex; They don’t care about you. You pay for their problems.
They’ll charge you for anything they can. Say goodbye to your security deposit (+more) the second you sign. Way too overpriced for what you get and they don’t tell you this at signing, but you’re responsible for 1/4 of your roommates rooms too. So even if you don’t damage yours, you’re responsible for the costs of fixing theirs. Awful management too. Just don’t live here! So many better places in Hburg.
I really do love our apartment. We have a newer one, so it’s kept up really well, the furniture is nice, stainless steel is nice. Good location. Good price. Walls are thin, but what does one expect for an apartment? Anyways, we love it for what it is. My roomies and I like it so much we have renewed a third year. Here’s the kicker: management. Campus View thought we weren’t resigning in spring 2020, though we did in fall 2019. That was the first huge hassle. As a side bar, they didn’t have the correct email for one of my roommates, so the online lease took longer than expected to navigate and complete. Fast forward to this spring 2020. Basically our apartment was put up for lease, they thought we were moving out. We are not. Now, our WiFi got turned off, auto payments are removed from our rent accounts, inquiring a late fee due to the error of campus view not renewing our lease. Now, we have to play the phone and email game with different property people to fix all of these errors. It has been a headache needless to say, with little understanding. The office manager seems to change a lot too, the one in the clubhouse. I’m not sure if this is the property manager or who, but it’s changed a lot and we keep receiving emails about one resigning, and the new one coming in! Im not sure the exact number, but we’ve had maybe 4-5 within the time I’ve been here. That is okay, because they are notifying us, but it makes everything more difficult when us residents have an issue or conflict arise because there is no stability, no assurance of who to call/email, and no assurance of a response. There are just more problems than there needs to be, in my opinion. Getting deferred to other people too, to fix a problem, it seems to be ‘someone else’s job’ sometimes. Anyway, I understand we are college students, but we are all getting a degree and some of us have some wits on what’s going on here.My last comment is about parking, as I saw someone brought this up and I will justify. Guest parking is horrendous. One pass, per apartment, which fits 4 tenants. Please, read that again. The pass must also be in a visitor spot. It is an ‘All or nothing’ deal. If you don’t have the pass in your car or you are parked in a non visitor spot, you are towed. Also, there might be 25 visitor spots for the Whole complex? I’m not sure on the exact number, but if you don’t have someone coming in Monday-Thursday in the day or early at night, you aren’t getting a spot and that’s just how it goes.
There is only one visitor parking pass to share between the four students in each unit. They have 1st choice towing constantly checking the parking lot to tow cars at $150.00. So if you want to visit your kid while theyre in college pick somewhere else.
Disgusting and took 3 months to respond to email. No response to service requests. I cannot exaggerate how much you need to avoid Matchbox. Run while you can. Apartment not cleaned prior to moving in and had no air filter.
I really enjoyed my time at Campus View Apartments. The staff (Lacey, Holly, and maintenance crew) was very efficient in answering any questions or fixing any problems my roommates and I had. With any new building, there were issues...but without a doubt we received a quick response and reasonable accommodations to any problem we had. I loved moving in and having a start up guide to tell you how to solve any problem before consulting a higher power. I feel like many complexes do not provide that type of information or take weeks to return a response. If youre looking for a nice place to live with great amenities and staff this is a great place to live. Although it is a little pricey and I wish at least water was included with the rent, you do get free internet and cable, in addition to really nice furniture. I do wish I would be around for the new club house or there was access to other club houses owned by Matchbox but overall I had a great experience with Campus View.
Below average experience living here. Only 44 visitor spaces available for 160+ guest passes handed out- one guest pass per apartment with a very minimal chance they will be able to park in the visitor spaces. Towing fines are around $190 and there is almost always a tow truck in the facility. When rent is paid on time ($480/person), the management company sends out an email with a prize, this usually being 5% off of a bag of popcorn or something along those lines that no one will use. The clubhouse gym is subpar as it is small and only has a few cardio machines and a squat rack available for use. The furniture in the apartments is included (a plus for sure) but is cheap and breaks easily.Really wish the management was more attentive to what the residents want to see but it seems as they are more concerned with $ than the satisfaction of their tenants.**UPDATE 10/19: All 4 of my roommates lost our $250 security deposit and were charged $90/person for things such as “cleaning fees” and broken furniture that was already in need of repair when we moved in. For example, our coffee table in the living room had a small air bubble in it when we moved in- we were charged for that.
If you are looking for customer service or help with anything related to your apartment, look elsewhere. No one EVER answers the phone in the office and they towed my daughter car and she lives there.
