I have been attending Thurston academy jiu-jitsu 4 days a week for about 2 years now. I enjoy all of my classmates and every instructor.Every instructor is willing and ready to help you if youre ready to help yourself. If you are dedicated to yourself and committed to your personal growth they will be with you every step of the way.
I signed up for their services in September 2020. Once you sign up it states you are locked into the contract for 6 months. I went to TWO classes due to constantly being exposed to COVID but understood the agreement I signed and never tried contacting the business for my money back. I figured in February my contract would be past the 6 months and I would be eligible to cancel my services and stop paying the $99 per month. (Mind you I happily paid $600 for 2 classes). Well, they charged me for March, so I called 3/28 to request a refund. I just got a call back finally on 4/19 informing me that not only will they be keeping the payment for March, but also charging me for April since they charge you on the 21st of each month and me calling 3/28 did not give them 30 days notice. I explained that I have been pregnant since 12/29 and thats also why I have been unable to attend. The rep was did not care and told me hed contact me back, which he never did and they just charged me. So, $800 wasted for 2 classes. Horrible customer service and a money hungry company.
Alison and staff are very welcoming to new adult learners, and always committed to their students! The two dopes giving it one star sound like haters- Thurston Academy is legit the best!
I thought I was giving money to a local owner, yea no he lives in Florida and he only cares about money not the kids. I took my child out after almost a year there and I never asked for my money back when they were closed and still charging tuition during the Covid.
2 years ago I would of given 5 star review. My son loved it there but after losing a sensei he had gained great respect and connection with the entire attitude of the place went downhill. The owners do not even acknowledge you when you walk in. They only care about the money they bring in. It is not the place we knew previously. All the senseis and senpais are fantastic and truly love and care about the development of the children. The owners do not. They handled disagreements completely unprofessionally. And we’re quite frankly extremely rude.
Great dojo’s great staff great people. All around fantastic program would give 6 stars if I could
I started class here years ago and I still go! Not only do you learn self defense, you also get a good exercise.
I started taking classes here last year and love it. All of the instructors are excellent and very encouraging. They have been able to modify my training to account for my ongoing feet issues with no problem. I have learned so much! I feel great knowing I’m learning karate from Senseis that have learned from a long lineage of karate that can be traced back to karate masters from Okinawa. I would recommend this dojo to anyone who wants to learn karate.
I have been going to Thurston on and off for a bit doing the Jui Jitsu class, and I have never had a bad experience. Everyone that I have come into contact with there has been more than accommodating, from the owners to the students. Its always fun, and you get one hell of a workout, 10/10 would jui jitsu again :).
