I bought two chins from here and purchase supplies as well and I am 100% satisfied with the quality. Ashley goes the extra mile when it comes to answering questions and is extremely caring and considerate. She takes absolutely amazing care of her animals and makes herself available to answer questions. When one of my chinchillas was sick (this was a chin I didnt even purchase from her) she took the time to reach out to other breeders to see if they had any idea as to what was causing his symptoms. She is AMAZING! How many other people would do that for someone? Not many. I strongly recommend NWI to anyone that is looking for a small animal or supplies. You will not be disappointed. I cannot say enough good things about NWI!!
Very friendly and helpful, was on time loaded everything into our car, had a wonderful chat even. Showed me both girls before transferring them into our carrier. During all of this she had a lot going on and still managed constant communication, sent almost daily pics/vids and updates before, during and after the bonding process. My girls have been friendly since day one that tells me she puts lots of time and love into these animals this isn’t just a business, there is a good woman with a head on her shoulders that loves doing this for the precious furbabies and to spread that happiness to their forever homes. My life definitely wouldn’t be as interesting without my girls who will both be a year in November, I will add pics when I got them to now. But if I ever were to expand my babies even other critters, this is hands down where I’ll do it.
NWI is the BEST! Ive gotten 7 chinchillas from her and each one is in great health! What you have to know about NWI is that its really run by just one woman, Ashley. Yes, she has some help from family & friends, but this is not a big shelter that youll talk to someone different anytime you call. So you have to understand that youll need to make an appointment versus just showing up (its her home, not a separate location). Her business is thriving between breeding chinchillas, taking in rescues, participating in expos and shows, and fulfilling supply orders (which funds the rescues!). Be patient, give her time and I promise, you will NOT regret working with her!!
Not sure where the detractors are coming from. I adopted a chin from Ashley about 8 years ago. Whiskey was the cutest chin ever. Ashley made sure I understood everything I needed in order to be the best chin mommy (seeing that I was a new chin owner). Through that transaction, we became good friends and discovered that we actually knew each other when we both lived in Indianapolis (I worked at the humane society there and she brought her dog there for training classes). As far as the claims regarding not being notified of certain clauses (price fluctuations/deposit availability), people need to learn to actually READ contracts…and not skim them. After working in legal field for nearly 10 years, it amazes me that people still pull the ‘I wasn’t told’ excuse. You don’t have to be told anything…you need to learn how to read. If I still lived in Indiana, I would get a chin from Ashley every day of the week and twice on Sunday.Moral of the story…Don’t be a Karen or a Daren if you don’t get your way.
Ashley is an amazing and knowledgeable woman. I have adopted 3 chinchillas and a rat from her and all have there own quirky personalities. We have bought food and supplies from her that are of great quality. I have never been disappointed and I love how her website will give you a brief overview of the chins personalities.
We got our GORGEOUS girl, Twinkle from NWI Chinchillas & couldnt have been happier! She is a Pedigreed Locken (Curly) Chinchilla. Great quality, awesome personality... We absolutely WILL be purchasing through her again!
I would recommend Ashley at NWI chinchillas to anyone looking for a chinchilla or small pet! Ashley is very knowledgeable about the animals she breeds and rescues, and answers all questions that you have! She has lots of resources available to support her clients.... detailed care packets, lifetime text/email education & support, as well as a webstore full of healthy and safe foods treats and toys!
Great place! The owner takes her time to explain care and gives tons of advice. Always answers questions that you may have and has a great set up for the animals!
If you like them, cool, but if youre a first time chin owner or another want one because youve had one before, dont go there::BEWARE::They are not straightforward about their pricing. I wanted a brown velvet and (pictures below) he says $550, and their pricing says the highest price for a BV is $475. At BBC, a male BV is $375.Go to Beer Brand Chinchillas. Even if you live in Indy, with BBC their pricing is cheaper, and they have videos showing how caring and proud they are of their chins. These people do not. If you gas up to BBC, it is still less expensive than getting a chin from NWI and they have a bigger selection as well.I really think theyre for profit. And when I mentioned the discrepancy and wanted my deposit back, (yes I was rude, people dont deserve to be hustled) they wouldnt give it to me. Even though the clear difference in pricing was there. By default, my money should have been given back under those unique circumstances.Oh also, they dont make the information about whether the deposit is non refundable or not. I was not informed whatsoever. Make sure they give you their rules first IF you choose to go to them. Dont assume. I would say dont give them your business personally.Poor business ethics, price, and they arent trustworthy..Add on edit: Theyve responded back saying that it depends on quality. That is not explicitly stated anywhere on the site, and he isnt pedigreed, he should not cost that much. Plus, he is a boy. Girls cost more, that is way too much money.Im not spiteful, Im genuinely trying to help people out. After the initial costs, it isnt very expensive to care for a chin, but you need to have time in your life to socialize them.
Ashleys awesome. Her website has so much information. Lots of detail for people like me, who like to obsess about their future pet! all her procedures are clearly spelled out... deposits, making appointments, even the care of the pet. you can really tell ashley loves what she does and is knowledgeable.
Ashley and NWI Chinchillas are amazing! We got our rescue Tula from them and she’s been a gem. She’s always willing to help and offer advice!!!
Very knowledgeable and has great, safe, personalized products for chinchillas. Truly a great place to get a chinchilla, and/ or supplies from for your critters.
NWI is a phenomenal Chinchilla breeder and provides top quality information, help, and supplies! A wonderful place to get chinchillas, both bred by them, or ones they have rescued and help get back to top health!
Highly recommend. Responsible breeder, very knowledgeable, good care, and great quality. Highly recommend.
I got a chinchilla from here a few years ago. He was in perfect health and he was a good price
We adopted from here and got our own little fur child. My children absolutely love Misty and pickup was easy, despite it being in the pandemic when we adopted.
I love NWI Chinchillas. Ashleys chinchillas are very well cared for, and very healthy. She also has many options for food, snacks, supplements, and cage accessories. Occasionally she will also have other rescued rodents.
Thank you Ashley for helping me and my chinchilla out with some ledges! I’m very excited for him to try them out as they are very sturdy and good quality.
Got a chinchilla here and she is amazing. Presently we tried to get her a buddy but our chinchilla was not agreeing with the other chinchillas. However she was super professional and no chinchilla was harmed. I really recommend this place if you are looking to adopt and if you have question about their care.
This is a chinchilla rescue, not a professional breeder. You should be aware of that when you come here so you dont expect a tip top healthy chinchilla like youd get from a show breeder. The ages are estimates - remember, these are chinchillas that got dropped off by people who couldnt care for them. I got a few chinchillas from here and they were all fine but she was rather sleazy in her sales tactics on adoption. I definitely figured out she is more or a business/sales person than a philanthropist who wants to help chinchilla awareness. i.e. she will come up with a line to hold a chinchilla past her sales promo periods, if she knows you really want it, so you cant get a sale price on it.
I just went and adopted two baby guinea pigs from here and the lady working here is so sweet and nice! She gave a care package as well and overall she had great service.
I would recommend NWI to anyone looking for chinchillas and other small animals. I have found quality chins here, as well as a plethora of relevant supplies at very good prices. I have even repeatedly used NWI to board my own pets and they are always cared for with love! Ashley is well educated in her field, professional, and loves to teach people about chinchillas. If I could give more stars, I would!
We absolutely love this place! We got our first chin about 3 months ago and Ashly prepared us soooooo well for what we were getting into. I don’t think our chin would like us if we got it from pet smart. We came all the way from NJ to get a chin from her and it was absolutely worth it. She tells you exactly what’s wrong with products that are “chinchilla safe.”Definitely recommend NWI Chinchillas and Ashly !!!!!
This lady is awesome. Got my little friend from her and he’s healthy, happy and friendly! Drove 6 hours to get there and it was worth it! She’s the best!
Ashley is the greatest! Its a shame shes being forced to move by the city
I have adopted 3 chinchillas (2 rescues and one bred) from Ashley at NWI Chinchillas. She is more than just the owner of a rescue or just another breeder - she truly cares about her chinchillas. I reached out countless times to ask her questions about my chins, and she has taken her time to answer each and every single one of them. She also has supplies for a great price and really strives to do her best to produce quality items. If I were closer, I think Id be there all the time! :)
I got my chinchilla from here. She is great to work with and knowledgable. She really cares about these animals.
Amazing folks. Took in my chinchillas when I couldnt care for them any more.
Ive been a chinchilla parent for over 20 years. NWI is a great place to get a rescue or a young chinchilla. You love them and take care of them correctly; chinchillas can be great companions for decades. My oldest chinchilla is over 21years-old.
The breeder is such nice person and gave me a lot suggestions after I adopt lovely chin. She gave me very fair price for cage and pellet. If you want to adopt a chin, choose this place
Ashley is an incredible source of information and advice on everything to do with Chinchillas and many other small animals. The fact that they are a no kill shelter and rescue in addition to a breeder and supplier made me feel very confident adopting from them. Not only do they make sure each and every person adopting an animal from them knows how to care for the animal(s), they also provide a lifetime of support and advice, which, for me at least, was very reassuring the first few months with my young Chinchillas. Even the website is a great resource with a Chinchilla-friendly pet product buying guide I havent seen anywhere else outside of the occasional blog post.
I adopted 2 young female chinchillas from NWI Chinchillas 3/30/19. Ashley is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and my husband and I are greatly enjoying being chinchilla parents.
Absolutely love this place!! She’s helped me multiple times when I’ve been given Chinchillas randomly and helped me adopt and bond 2 chinchillas. Great place!!
Always great seeing what he puts up every year
Very knowledgeable and accommodating chinchilla rescue. Im grateful for the work they do!
So many cute chinchillas glad to have adopted from here!
I had been using NWI Chinchillas for my feed and got our little chin and his cage from them a few years ago. I even donated to them when they got robbed last year so I was a long time supporter. I follow them on Facebook and noticed a post about planning to participate in the Empress Chinchilla National Show. Being curious I look up this other group and discovered this Empress group does pelt shows and even was raffling off a teddy bear made from chinchilla pelt. While I know that NWI Chinchillas doesn’t pelt their chins, I still posted a comment condemning this Empress group and their pelt shows and chinchilla fur coats. That comment ended up getting me banned from their Facebook page and my comment deleted. Shocked to see NWI Chinchillas defending a group who kills and plets chinchillas.
Great service ... owner has lots of knowledge on chinchillas and other small rodent like animals
