Ive bought several vehicles at Whiteys over the years. And Ive profited from selling them - big time! The ones leaving bad reviews obviously should have done their homework prior to going there. The website explains that vehicles sold under$2000 are as-is. Anything more than$2k then you have arbitration rights. But its not that Whiteys is dishonest, heck, the auctioneer opens up by We assume all the vehicles have problems... Which from my experience the issues have been minor and cheap to fix. But they give you two hours to check them out, so as far as people saying they bought cars with a blown head gasket, they should have inspected it more thorough. Theres several ways to test for bad head gaskets. But like I said I have done well there and I doubt Ill ever buy a vehicle any other way. In fact, since my first experience at a night auction (open to the public) in 1997 in Abingdon VA, I have only bought one vehicle outside of an auction. I bought a 1994 F-150 long bed in immaculate condition for $1700. Drove it for a year and sold it in two days for $3500, this was before free advertising days so selling it that fast was awesome. My experience at Whiteys has been several vehicles under$500 that I sold for $2k or more, and many that I paid 700-1200 and sold for 1400-2500.so Ive at least doubled my money every time. When I go I take with me a decent quality scan tool and a battery charger. Other than that I know what to look for. I dont like that they stopped allowing car owners to sell there, because used car dealers have a bad rap and its generally because theres a reason, that theyre not the most honest people to deal with. I am actually going there tonight. Its Tuesday and its the best night to attend. Thursday nights are mostly vehicles that didnt sell on Tuesday.
Our family loves this auction! We happened to go on a slow day.but. i called ahead of time talked to the gentleman upfront (i forget his name now) he was very informative explained that Tuesdays are there larger auctions and that they had a lighter inventory that particular Thursday but there were some nice cars in the small selection. When he hears we are driving from Gaston he said to be honest i would wait till the coming tuesday when we have more. We decided to go anyway stop at another auction first and ended up at Whiteys so glad we did. Now my husband is no dealer nor car expert but we have had a few previous sale cars and just know to crank the cars listen for noises pop the hood look for corrosion in certain areas and it is a definite plus that at Whiteys anyone can drive around the lot. Its also worth mentioning, there was another nice gentleman on the lot that we stopped to talk to because we could tell he frequented Whiteys and knew exaclty what he was looking for and where to look. He explained that the cars on the rectangular patch of pavement were the best cars to choose from with possibly the least worries. And that the other cars behind the pavement and in the outer field were less desirable had maybe come from dealers and had more issues. AT ANY AUCTION IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK QUESTIONS . We still looked at cars on and off the pavement and used our own judgment. They had maybe 20 or 30 cars going through that night ranging from a brand new 2019 camry some nice Hondas a Mercedes 2010 in superb condition the staff were so nice i had to get the fob from the front office and the guys came to jump the car off(not uncommon for a sale car to have a dead battery that doesnt mean its junk) and we got to drive it around the lot. Not every auction will jump a car for you those auctions and most expect you to bring you own jump box. Whiteys is next door neighbor friendly though treat you the way you treat them and i love that. Now keep in mind some clunkers were there as well some they had to push through the line. Those are more parts cars and such. To me thats the fun comical part. We had a few picks watched as the sale progressed. Then a little 2008 Audi came up in almost excellent condition we bid and ended up buying at $2,900 walked out the door for 32 hundred and came back in about a week and half weeks to pick up the title. The car is perfect for our 16 year old first car. Drove it almost 2 hours home. Now it did have a check imagine light on but was simply a spark plug and a gas cap replacement. At Whiteys we got this car for almost less than half of the KELLY BLUE BOOK value what more can you ask for i mean really. I wanted to take the time to leave this review because some of Whiteys reviews lack the details people need to know about this auction. It is a great auction but like any auction or business the consumer has to do there part too. A little time and understanding go a long way. Hope this review helps future buyers.
Ive purchased a couple of vehicles from here and had a positive experience. However, they do have room for improvements such as having a much faster check in system. They have 1 person signing everyone in which can take over 5 mins per person because the man is slow processing. They also make you wait in line for your number to be Calle instead of 1st come 1st served. This means that if you bought a vehicle or not and you get in line to get your deposit back or to get get your title despite of being in line an hour they go by the time you bought the vehicle not the order that you are in line. This can take over an hour even if youre 1st in line! They also have dealers or placeholders there bidding against the public to drive the bid up and if the actual bidder doesnt win because they stopped then the announcer will say its sold with a phone call because the dealer or place holder out bidded the person by mistake. They shysty to a certain degree but they are running an easier auction then some others.
SHAME ON THIS PLACE. This place only sells for dealerships and allows the dealerships to lie and say whatever they want about the vehicles. I learned the hard way and got a car that isnt even worth 2 pennies but the auction house and the dealership made thousands. Sure you can drive them and look at the engines but you can not lift them to find out what is truly wrong. I got screwed and now the car that was supposed to take my son and I (both disabled) to and from our drs appointments now has to either sit until I get thousands more to fix it or find someone who wants to buy it that is capable of putting thousands into it.
Not the nicest location or building but good to check cars before the auction. You can move cars, usual other places do not allow this. Found a good car for a real low price. But you need time to ensure you know what you bet on. Some cars need lots of work. Some are great pick if you know what you skills are and what the car needs.
Guys very friendly and explained everything well. Good place to look for vehicles.
First time; great experience.
Came here to buy a vehicle and could not get anything started. Make sure you bring a jump box and a variety of fuses with you. When the auction started it was amazing that every vehicle that would start drove through the auction like nothing was wrong. Please don’t waste your time.
Great place to buy cars, friendly staff everyone does there job professionally.
The best place to get your car will be at this soon need a new car
I bought a 2008 BMW at the auction and I know auctions are risky but the car ended up coming to me at almost 3,000$ cheap huh. The funniest thing they parked the car at the first available spot they could and it wouldn’t cut back on. When I got it towed to BMW they said it had a blown head gasket, Major misfires and would cost almost 3,000 just to get it to run. They tampered with this car just to sell when they knew it was done for. GREAT TIME TO TAKE SOMEONES MONEY WHITEYS !!!
Make shure u have cash when u go it fast and u can louse your bid but had a good time there
A good place to find a car
Bought a car and I love it
Its ok but the staff do not smile. They have to push some cars through because they do not crank. Go early and check out any vehicle you are interested in.
Worst auction ever don’t ever come here if you’re a dealer or invidual worst customer service David the manager is so unprofessional with his customers and would never give you any of your titles on time. Go to upstate auto auction much better customer service with much better cars that’s open to the public and dealers
Nice vehicles & Fair pricing.. Open to public as well. Will definitely put Whiteys on my schedule..
Excellent place to get a good deal on a vehicle, anyone can bid there.
Im not very experienced with auto auctions but I did enjoy going here with a friend.
Good place. But the management really needs to enforce a no smoking policy. You cant walk into the auction without having 5 people blow cigarette smoke in your face. Its disgusting, unhealthy and definitely hazardous.
FUN PLACE. GOOD DEALS YOU CAN GET A FAIR PRICE FOR YOUR TRANSPORT NEEDS
Ive bought 4 cars here and have gotten great deals Everytime
Its a super great place to find a fixed upper or a daily driver, even a boat or a camper, if your lucky, workers are super nice and helpful, always plenty to pick from and being able to test drive the cars before hand is epic, not hard to find a good car, will be going again to find me a new car!.
Sometimes get a great car, sometimes being out bidded by others...love it!
David and his team are wonderful people. Great opportunity for our region.
You could possibly get a good deal here but be ready to go through hell to get there if youre an individual. One lady handles all the sign ins and sign outs as well as purchases for individuals so it take about 30 minutes to get in the place and about an hour to leave. No shots to her though its just all the other employees seem to just be standing around. They provide no help and if you ask any questions they talk to you like youre questions are inconveniencing you. They act like its a code in there to be crooked, like they are purposely trying to tell you the least information (That is your right to know) as possible. They also put more effort into making sure you HAVE TO register your vehicle with DMV prior to resale than they do checking their own paperwork and the sellers paperwork. The Seller forgot to put repo date on his Affidavit and the DMV said they couldnt title my car without it. I call the Auction and the girl that answers tells me they will look in to it and to give them an hour and a half or so. I ask her how can they look into it if she hasnt asked for my name or the car information. She said well they are short handed and just opened so someone would have to call me back anyway. I call back to get the Sellers number to handle it myself and she puts David on the phone. He proceeds to tell me that nobody is perfect and they are trying to correct it but they just opened. I told him I just needed the Sellers (A Dealership) number and he said he cant provide it. He finished with saying he could make it harder on me if I would like and have me have to come up there in order to get the repo date. I hung up and got the repo date myself with a quick Google search. So yes, the customer service is ridiculous. Also when I went to pick my car up I had to pull teeth to get someone to tell me where the keys were and basically had to walk the entire lot to find the car and figure out how to get it out the lot. Asked for assistance twice and was ignored. So like I said in the beginning, you May find a good deal. But be ready for the hell that comes with it and factor all that into the price you pay as well.
There are a lot of great deals to be had here. Thet also have a lot of donation sales
What can I say,its an auction with public access....if you take your time and weed through the junk, you can actually find some decent cars at reasonable prices!
This was the worst experience of my life dealing with these people. They sell junk to start with. They cant keep the lies that they tell straight. One day they tell you one thing and the next day they tell you a different lie
Horrible service, they don’t care about anyone and I called to ask one simple question and the Gentleman on the phone goes off.
Public auctions. Fee required to enter. Refundable if nothing purchased. Gates open at 5pm. Auctions every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm
🤑
Good Auctions. 🇺🇸
The dealers selling cars want basically book value for the cars including damages an all so after repairs you have more in the car than its worth and you bought it from an auction lolDont waste your time and $ just go to a dealership
Is usually packed with cars but on this Thursday it was slack
Unorganized and sells dealers unwanted junk. Mostly vehicles with blown engines and transmissions. If you are a mechanic and can fix them yourself ... then you can get a car for under 500.00.
Whitney and Becky, David, good people! Dealt with them for over 25 years!
One of the auctioneers kept passing me over when I was bidding, although his assistant (that was standing in front of him) kept telling him I was bidding.
