They have tutors, but they WANT to place you with WHOEVER they want to teach you, not with a tutor who youd actually understand and learn from..The women behind the desk looks down on students, and treat us unfair..And they speak to you any kind of way..LIKE THEYRE BETTER THAN THE STUDENTS trying to obtain their GED..Today I was removed from the Program, cause I requested to be tutored by someone who I understood. And that plays a big part in obtaining my GED.Instead of having someone contact me, the staff continued to text me, and didnt like the FACT that I was being straight forward, and honest..Think it was more of a racial issue..
First rate agency! What makes this place so great is the people who run it. All of them. They have motivated me to change my life! I hope to be able to pay it forward someday...
Ive been going to United Ministries on and off for quite sometime seeking the help to get my GED. This is a great place to start if you are not trying to pay $ for GED classes. They help prep you for the GED and they are great at helping you get on your feet in other life situations. My ONLY problem with them is that they have way too many students and not hardly enough tutors, and most of the time you cant find one and stick with them, because someone else may need/have that same tutor and youre having to get with another tutor. Overall 5 stars
I dropped out of High school in the 10th grade, they helped me get my G.E.D. Its a Christian based organization, & Im not religious. Not one time did they preach to me. They are caring, loving, & giving people.
I am a volunteer receptionist at the United Ministries Learning Center. Every Thursday morning for four hours I watch an impressive group of people, staff, volunteers and clients, strive to achieve common goals. The employment program provides clients the support needed to enter the workplace, including financial management, transportation, and advanced skills. Deserving of great admiration are the people striving to earn their GED. Helped by dedicated staff and volunteers, many are able to achieve this difficult objective. The work of United Ministries through its many programs combines the compassion of faith and the results of efficient management. The clients, volunteers, and staff treat each other with courtesy and respect. United Ministries makes a difference in this community.
The United Ministries Learning Center helps people who want to be helped. Working with people who are motivated to learn is a joy. Being able to help someone overcome the perceived barriers they may have faced in their past educational experiences, and help them realize their potential, is priceless. As a volunteer, I believe I get more from the volunteer tutoring experience than the students get. It helps me keep my mind fresh and the feeling of utilizing my skills, even though in my case they were acquired long ago, gives me a much appreciated feeling of accomplishment.
I think this organization is so great and I can honestly tell that each and every person who works at this location genuinely cares about your education and your future, they go above and beyond to get you where you need to be.
This organization is led by people with their heart in the right place. Additionally I would like to add that I was in need of help, having an autistic wife and five kids and they were there for us. Too bad Marietta water and sewer said their commitments mean nothing and refused to wait two days to receive a check. Apparently Greenville doesnt support the United Way at all.
Awesome! !
