I was very surprised at how this place was run. No long lines, and very helpful people staffed. A night and day difference in comparison to dealing with the dcf offices in south Florida. I was very impressed.

Alright I reckon if y’all are not in a hurry y’all can get some help here if you’re interested. Put in your application, go home and wait for a letter to tell you what you need to provide, wait some more for your appointment or phone interview.

I really wish that I could give them a 5-star rating because all of the people there have been extremely friendly and have been taking time to explain every step of the process and really do everything they can to help. But the two star rating comes from the amount of time its taking to get approved for food stamps and the over the top amount of paperwork and things that they ask for.Ive lived in a few different states and anytime Ive applied aid for myself, my husband, and my children its never taken more than a week at the absolute most two weeks to get approved for food stamps and all the other places Ive been to all ask for the same basic paperwork such as ID, social security cards, birth certificates, immunization records, proof of residency/rental agreement, and any kind of paystubs or employment records which are all the standard verifications every other place Ive lived has asked for.We moved to Tennessee from California and had been receiving aid from California when we moved and before applying here closed out our case in California properly like your supposed to. We then applied here in Tennessee after the other case was closed so there would be no lapse in benifits and its been nothing but a nightmare trying to get them to make their decision on approving us for food stamps. A nightmare that has been going on for 3 1/2 weeks and still has not been resolved. We have all of the proper paperwork, even the excessive things they asked us to get such as asking my husband to have his boss print out a statement verifying he is an employee there and what his hourly wage is and what the estimated amount of hours on average he would be working.I dont understand why paystubs from his job with all the same information wasnt enough and I think it is extremely degradeing to make someone have to go ask their employer for a written statement and I feel it should be a breach of someones confidentiality as well to ask them to do so. The argument in regards to the confidentiality breach that could be made is that you arent required to tell your employer exactly what this document your asking for is for but then that would mean that the department of human services would be asking individuals to lie to their employers which no matter how you look at it is not ok.To add ontop of all of that mess, they further asked us to humiliate and embarrass ourselves by requiring us to give them names and phone numbers of two separate people here in Tennesse that they called and asked them to verify that we were in fact residents here. They introduced themselves on the phone to our references as the department of human services and yet again I feel like that in itsself is a gigantic breach of an individuals confidentiality.I understand the need to establish someones residency exspecially when the individual is so new to the state but the rental agreement we provided proof of, the electrical account opened in our names, the account opened in our names with the water company, and my husbands paystubs all with the same address should have been enough proof without them having to call other people and ask them as well.It may seem odd that I would think its such a big deal that others would find out about us applying for aid and I know its extremely commen and alot of people these days do receive food stamps but my point is that a struggleing family and their children should not have to be put in these kinds of situations. Its nobodys business weather or not someone is applying for food stamps except the person applying and their caseworker.
