Im about as green as it gets with fly fishing. Chuck was extremely patient and helpful. I had a great time and caught some fish!
I have fished with Captain Chuck Ragan numerous times in California both on the river and in the Delta for Striped bass as well as trout and bass in the foothill reservoirs over the last 4 years! I come out from Utah to make a point to target bass with him yearly. Its always fishy, fun and full of laughs and stoke! He takes his job seriously as well as I do when we are on the boat and always have fun along the way regardless of the catch. I always learn something new out on the water with Chuck as well and recommend him highly.
Fished for Striper back in October with Capt. Chuck. Top notch all the way. We had a great day in the boat. All gear supplied by Chuck was high end modern gear, well tied flies and the right ones to get the job done. Lunch and snacks were tasty and the conversation was great. Caught a few fish including my PB stripe. Ill be back soon!
My daughter moved to Grass Valley a few years ago so I decided to hire a guide to check out the Yuba and was referred to Chuck. Chuck runs a great operation and works hard to put you on fish whether youre a novice or experienced. He accommodates lunch needs and provided quality tackle for a great day on the water. We are looking forward to another trip withhim in March.
Chuck has one of the best fishing guide reputations in NorCal, and for good reason - he knows his stuff inside and out!Ive fished with Chuck on a few occasions and his knowledge of the rivers he guides, the fish that inhabit them, and the ecology that makes it all come together is awesome.Chuck is also a big supporter of CastHope - a non-profit focused on getting underprivileged youth on the water. He donates his time to help them out and that speaks volumes about his character.Def fish with him if you get the opportunity.
As a longtime bait/spin-cast fisher, I’d always been intrigued with fly-fishing and I was finally over missing out on my friends fly trips. As I became more interested and started down the road of exploring the fly, I quickly realized that like many activities in life, there were many methods, styles, preferences and personal opinions and it became a bit overwhelming. Quite simply, I needed to find a guide that could show me some foundational skills which I could then build upon, Chuck ended up being that guide. I contacted Chuck and explained my experience level, he understood and was surprisingly excited about my lack of fly skills. Chuck quickly adapted a trip on the Yuba for me and I spent 2 days learning some basic techniques which I will carry with me for years to come. Aside from the great camaraderie and learned skills, Chuck has a passion for fishing that makes the experience so personal. For a man that’s been fishing the Yuba for well over a decade and caught thousands of fish, one would expect a bit of complacency when a customer catches yet another trout, not Chuck. There were times Chuck got more excited about a fish on that I did, and that is why I will continue to fish with Chuck for years to come. I pick my trips and where I spend my time and money very carefully, I’m on my third trip with Chuck, you won’t be disappointed.
