The gals there are always great. Our vehicle required us to stop about every 300 miles for air in one of the tires. It would set off the sensor alarm and drop as low as 18# pressure. That’s a lot of stopping on a 2000 mile trip, especially at $1.75 a fill at most places. Would have been nice if they had at least offered a $40-¥50 discount code for our next week rental.
It was a hassle at first. My address changes 2 weeks before thankfully I had all of my paperwork though to help make it easier

Great place to rent a car reasonable prices
To be honest, the employee I dealt directly with at the location was the only redeeming factor here. The only reason I went with budget instead of Enterprise like we normally do was because it said I would get 10% back in amazon gift cards - I linked my account to the reservation but nothing ever came of it. God forbid you need to speak with customer service because the chances you can get someone from corporate or the local office on the phone are very slim. I was unable to resolve issues with getting the amazon gift card and unable to link my reservation to my budget account to use the application. The website is terrible and doesnt allow you to speak to a representative either. The rental smelt like marijuana for the full week we had it, the employee at the desk acknowledged this had been an issue with the vehicle before. Unfortunately there was nothing else on the lot in the same category or Id have asked for an exchange right away. Instead, we had to buy air fresheners so the kids wouldnt smell like a Rastafarian party. No real issues with the vehicle itself but if I had know these things I would have stuck with tried and true Enterprise.

Awesome service. Switched to this Budget location for my rental needs after years with Enterprise and have not looked back for a second. Great employees that do a wonderful job of making you and your business seem important to them. Wonderful franchise owner. The only negative is that they are often extremely busy and tend to have little selection, but considering this they do as good a job as possible to manage their fleet and accommodate their customers.

Because we received a phone call an hour before our pick up time telling us they would not have the car we reserved, so I get down there to discuss the matter and they tell me that for $10 a day EXTRA they could get us on the road.. this was / is unacceptable.

I was given a car that smelled like smoke, required a oil change, and did not receive any assistance from in-person staff. I had to waste a vacation day exchanging my vehicle at an alternative out of state location. Not offered a upgrade when asked or any compensation. I will never rent from budget again!
Terrible return policy. NO drop box. NO early return availability. LONG checkout process with crowded front desk because of the process. VERY inconvenient!!!
First and foremost, I was happy with the actual vehicle I rented as well as the pricing. What I was unhappy about was being accused of smoking in a vehicle when I did not and being accessed a $250.00 charge that I am now disputing with Budget. The owner/operator of the location accessed the charge even after we called and filed a complaint against the claim with Budget and had a claim number. This happened even after the Budget employee we filed a claim with stated that the $250.00 fee cannot be charged or assessed until it has been approved by management. The owner/operator said shed never heard of such a thing and had to close the account out so she HAD to assess the $250.00 charge. Not happy at all.
It surely looks like they don’t care about customer or anything. Reserved a car for weekend. And once I arrived to pick it she told me that they don’t have a car for me. Gave me. Customer service number to call and I called they with hope that the will show some respect but nope. Customer service told me you Called late and also I should have take the smal car they offered. So ruined my weekend, waisted my time and cancelled my hotels. Nothing was matter to them. Extremely bad.
I have used Budget car rental for a while now and it has never let me down. Easy to book online, pick up car and drop off car. The staff are helpful and easy to work with. I always recommend Budget to my friends and family when they need to rent a car.

Legitimate but unreasonable charge. While the office notified us that there is no after hours drop off they did not notify us (1) There is only 29 minutes after they open that you can return a vehicle and not be charge extra or (2) That we could have dropped off after hours at the other Grand Rapids location. It is understandable to discontinue after hours drop off since your wooden door keeps getting broken into and keys are being taken, but until you fix this the drop off time should be extended to a reasonable time frame since customers need to coordinate rides. For dropping off 1 hour after the location opened I was charged $83.25 (75% of a day). Charging customers almost an extra day because you are unable to create a reasonable drop off period is an unacceptable business practice. Seriously, we were 39 minutes out of the limited window on a work day. Again we were not informed of any option to drop off between Saturday after 1pm and Monday at 9am, and not told what the acceptable window was.
Service is always great Tina the owner of the Alpine store is wonderful and so is her employees I would advice you all to go and check that store out wonderful service.
Vehicle was uncomfortable, dirty, and overpriced compared to what you get at enterprise. I had to inspect the vehicle by myself for pre damage. Vehicle was not ready for me and was covered in ice and snow. Will not be renting again from this company.

After booking a car through Priceline and paying for full coverage collision was told that we weren’t covered. How??? Then told that we needed to pay addition for a vehicle because the one we reserved was not available. Stay away from this company scammers to bait you in.
One of the best experiences I have had with car rental in my life. At other places, I always had to struggle from reservation all the way to receipt in my life. But this story with this car rental is great. Deborah who was kind enough to help me get a rental car in less than 10 minutes as I had to catch a flight to London from Detroit Airport. Great smiling service. I picked the car from Alpine Avenue, Grand Rapids and dropped off at Detroit Airport. Once i wanted to get the receipt later, the Budget customer service put me through cycles, but Deborah stepped in and helped me all the way to the end to get the receipt after 45 days. She was very professional and patient to help me in spite of her work schedules. Thanks again to Deborah!!
The van we rented was never vacuumed out or wiped down. My husband and I had to spend and hour and a half cleaning it before anything else, it had expired proof of insurance in the glove box, and the tag on the plate did not have the same plate number.
Well the budget i go to is on alpine nw. They treat you very kindly and very good professionalism especially Tina she is pretty awesome thats why I go there all the time I would recommend that place to anyone.
This is the first negative review I have ever written about a company. One star is far too many stars for how horrible our experience with this company has been. From pick up to drop off, every minute with this car and dealing with this company has been unpleasant. Not only did they put us in a dirty, unsafe, broken car, they also have treated us with nothing but disrespect the entire time. I have never seen a company in my life make it so obvious they care so little about their customers. I am a small business owner myself and I would be ashamed if I ever allowed a paying customer to experience what my family did dealing with this company. It started when I booked the car online I requested to have it six days with a return time of 5:00pm on the sixth day. My family was taking a trip up north and wanted five nights. We picked Up the car on the morning of our trip the woman was late, so my wife had to wait for her. That was fine, we understand people are sometimes running late. But she was very impatient with my wife. She did not walk the car with my wife and she did not inspect the car with my wife. Then she told my wife the car needed to be back at 9:00am on the sixth day. My wife explained we needed a later return time so we could have five nights. But she did not care. She told us it would be an additional charge. So our trip was now cut one day short. It was fine. We are a “glass half full” kind of family so we moved on. When we got in the car the dashboard steering wheel and front console were filthy. It was very gross. But we had our own Clorox wipes so we took care of it. About 2 miles into our drive a light came on informing us that the car required service. So we called the place we got the car from and she told us it was no big deal, probably from when they did the oil change. We have a two year old and a seven month old. We had a 400 mile trip ahead of us. We did not want to risk our kids lives in a car that was “probably” safe. We got about 250 miles into our trip and we hit a spot in Michigan that is very small and in the middle of no where. We were driving through some Construction and we heard some noise under the car. We figured it was rocks or gravel. But when the construction ended the car continued to make an awful noise. We pulled over and looked. There was a big plastic piece hanging between the front tires. The car was so low to the ground we could not get under it to really look at it. I tried using the tire jack to raise the car a little but it didn’t help. So we called the number on the pamphlet we were given. The boy who answered could not have seemed more annoyed with us. He never apologized or pretended to care. He interrupted my wife several times so he could transfer us to roadside assistance as fast as possible. Roadside assistance was very patience and apologetic towards us. They tried to help us but the only option was for us to go to an airport 15 miles in the opposite direction of where we were headed. the location was closed for the day. So we could hang out in the middle of nowhere for a day and loose another night of our trip, or we could drive the final hour or so of our trip and then come back tomorrow. Both these options were unacceptable. We called budget again and they explained to us if it wasn’t sparking it was fine to drive on. So we spent the rest our trip driving a car that made an insane amount of noise. It was very frustrating. It made it very hard to have a conversation, listen to the radio, and our kids really struggled to sleep in the car. It was also embarrassing. Once we got to our destination we did our best to just put this behind us and enjoy our trip. But the car ride hone was very difficult. We felt very stressed about what else was wrong with this car and how safe our children were. Again we came home a day early because the car had to be back by 9:00 am. When we explained this to rude lady she showed no sympathy and didn’t apologize. Such a bad experience. We rent cars a lot. We travel a lot. This is our first time using budget and it was so bad.
I would urge anyone that needs a car rental to use enterprise. Budget did not have good customer service reps and they do not have a courtesy drop off service available so if you dont have a ride from the store you are out of luck with no help or concern from staff! My car was 5 miles down the road at the airport and I waited an hour for a car service!!
They hadnt been updating the mileage of our rental in their system. So when we brought the car back after 3 days they said we drove it nearly 5000 miles and charged us $2000. Thats basically like driving to LA and back non-stop. In reality we drove it just over 500 miles and the original charge was supposed to be $200. Were going to fight them on these egregious charges but who knows how many people theyve ripped off before us.

Ive always rented from budget/avis. I love the fact that they only hold a $100 plus the cost of the rental. If you only have a debit card. Not 250 or 400. Like the other car rental places.

Was a little wary to get a car from here due to the prolific bad reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The staff was courteous and I was given a brand new vehicle that is now a dream of mine to someday own. Paperwork was done quickly and smoothly. Will return in the future if I need another rental! The woman was rude. I asked about cost before she charged my card. She charged my card and made me wait for the receipt before I knew charges. Reviewing the receipt she charged me insurance. I opted out of insurance because my insurance covered it.
They claim I somehow used two gallons of gas between the gas station and their lot so they could charge their inflated prices. Dishonest and untrustworthy.
My family and I had planned on renting a car and driving from Michigan to Florida and back. I booked through the 1-800 number. When I called they told me the closest location that I could book with a debit card and not have to have a flight itinerary was 5 hours away. I asked all of the pertinent questions regarding booking with a debit card. I triple checked that it was unlimited mileage, as we were driving literally across the country and back. When I arrived, I was shocked to find out that I was not informed of the entire policy and was misled. We worked around it by moving the rental one day later and having my sister use her credit card. Everything was fine and dandy, except for a slight rate increase which I was prepared to deal with as there was an additional charge for adding me as a driver under my sisters rental. No big deal. When I got back to drop the vehicle off, they asked what the mileage was. I didn’t think anything of it as I had never rented a car before. Due to that fact, I had taken multiple pictures both before and after and had the odometer in one of the photos. I told them the mileage and then they handed me a receipt for over $500 MORE than the original price. I was utterly shocked and quickly came to realize after looking at the receipt that they had charged me mileage even though the rental was supposed to be unlimited, which is what it states in my rental agreement but they refused to honor it. They basically told me tough luck and to call the customer service number to get it resolved. It is still unresolved. Never again. I will never recommend budget to anyone and be sure to let anyone who will listen know of how awful this company is and particularly the Grand Rapids location on Alpine. Just awful.

Car broke down, I was forced to limp to a non-convenient Budget location to exchange. Had to cancel appointments that day, couldn’t do what I wanted for fear of breakdown. Still don’t know if I was gouged for not filling up the tank before dropping off the lemon. Doubtful I’ll rent from you again.
The stress of loading a rental car for a move to FL was made bearable by the kindness and professionalism of Deborah and Tina. The one way rental pickup was seamless and the vehicle they provided me was the perfect size and made the very long drive quit enjoyable. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! Took our money TWICE for the same rental that we didnt end up getting because of a glitch in their system. Ended up having to spend more money to rent from ENTERPRISE. It ended up costing almost 2 grand to rent a van for a few days. On top of it all, the lady working kept disappearing in the back and was really rude and did not seem to know what she was doing. WILL NEVER GO THROUGH THIS COMPANY AGAIN.
I had no issues. Ive never rented before, I called, asked a few questions, the person on the other end was polite and friendly and made an appointment for getting me set up. I went in the next morning, Tina was very straight forward and polite, and I was in-and-out in about 10 minutes. I even upgraded without any hassle. When I returned the vehicle (2016 in great condition), I was again, in-and-out in about 10 minutes. Later that night, I noticed something questionable on my bill, I called the next day and it was a fuel charge that was automatically applied that was immediately taken off. I would definitely use this place again. I rarely write reviews, but this was worth it.

Was called 30 minutes before my reservation pick-up time and told my vehicle wasnt there and was instead at the GRR airport. The lady I spoke with was less than interested in trying to solve this problem (upgrade, different vehicle, etc.) and referred me to the 1800 number to take care of it on my own. Because I had to get a different vehicle at the GRR airport, they wanted to charge more. I was fortunately able to explain this issue and was told I will receive a refund for the difference in 5-7 days. The vehicle I picked up at the GRR airport was not even what I originally reserved. ?? It also smelled of cigarettes. Fortunately, I had the time to exchange the vehicle at yet another location.tl;dr: poor customer service, solve their problems on your own even though youre paying them, circus
Vehicle was filthy when I picked it up. Worker said she had a new cleaning kid. I could see nothing that had been cleaned. Never used Budget before, but never will again. It was closer to pick up.
I had reservations from 4 different locations and each called me immediately afterwards to explain that they had made a mistake, and no cars we available for rentals. After I had made reservations and received email confirmation. It totally messed up my vacation plans, and I wasnt able to make my flight on time. Severely disappointed in their reservation system, and lack of customer service.
BEWARE....Prepaid and was driving 12 hours across country when it came time to get my car at the appropriate time (my appointment time) they said they did not have one that maybe in a couple hours to try back. I explained to them that i needed one for a family of 5 that is what I paid for and you already took the money she said maybe in a couple hours they might have something. They employee was extremely rude and began yelling at me saying well we have nothing and I would have to wait I said I paid for a car and my family is waiting to go on this trip that you could of told us beforehand Not at the time of pickup. She also said she contacted her manager and to try back in a couple of hours. I cannot believe how poorly they treat there clients and how unprofessional they are. Do more research and go elsewhere.
Prepaid for rental with AARP and coupon discount. Website accepted payment in full and both discounts. However, when I arrived, the coupon was invalid as it was applied after the AARP discount and just under the required total amount needed. The employee was very gracious about waiting until I pulled up a different coupon on my phone and then applied that coupon. Had a great vehicle (Jeep) with low mileage, very clean, no issues, great ride. Rental was for a week. Returned the vehicle and employee even remembered correct pronunciation of my first name. Return took very little time. Only complaint would be that the website work properly and if a coupon was not acceptable that it would reject it at the time of rental rather than cause an issue at pickup. Appreciate the staff on Alpine - very great to work with, pleasant and helpful.
I wasnt able to return the car to the location I reserved it for and I was told Id get a discount if I returned the car on a full tank of gas. When I picked it up it wasnt full.
My wife reserved a suv online. paid for it all in full. She went to go pick it up and told her she could not rent with a debit card after they took her payment three months prior. My wife asked for her refund it took Budget a week for her money to be refunded. Horrible service
I have had a rental car 365 days a year, for the past three years. I have rented from all of the major car rental companies in Grand Rapids. Without a doubt Budget on Alpine is the BEST OF THEM ALL!! The people at the other rental places are nice and do their jobs well. The budget people are Great also. But you are renting a car.. I have had problems over and over again with cars that smell of smoke, things not working in the car and many, many issues with tires. Never have I had an issue with a car from Budget on Alpine. Then there is car availability and selection. Other then going to the Airport. Budget has the best selection of cars and SUVs anywhere. Make sure you call and reserve and if you cant get through.. It is because they are so busy renting cars. Call them back. Most important things to me are service and cost. Let me tell you. I have done your homework for you.Have a safe and fun trip. Thanks
When you rent a car and you prepay for it you think you would be able to pick the car up, but no. When you get there they make you jump through more hoops. All in all a terrible experience and Im now without a car.

Went to get a car and I couldnt see out of it. Couldnt do anything for me. No others cars available (according to them) Very rude and disrespectful Told me to call corporate to cancel it. Drove 40 miles to go get the car. Other customers said theyd trade for the car she wanted to give me, but she said no. I rent cars often, but will never go here again. Stay away. Theirs a reason its cheap. You get what you pay for.

I am forever grateful for her act of kindness to my needs.After I got home my mother passed,but if it werent for her I would have never have got to say good bye.Their rates was better their selection of cars was better and the service was fast and customer service was fantastic ! If I could give this 0 or negative stars, I would!Dishonest employees, rude owner, and completely unprofessional!I was charged for an extra day of rental and when I called to discuss the matter with the owner, I was told the owner, TIna, would call me back. She never called back and when I FINALLY spoke with her after calling back 2 more times (with 0 returned calls), she told me that she would call me back by the next day. That was 1 week ago! In all, I called 7 times and 0 phone calls were returned! Tina was INCREDIBLY condescending the one time I did manage to speak to her and Ashley the assistant manager was ABSOLUTELY horrible(and lied right to me several times)!BEWARE!!!!

Worst experience of any rental car company I have ever used. I used to go to Budget for all my rental car needs for the past 3 years and thats why I kept going back until this time.Long story. Had to go out of town (read 17 hour drive to Florida 1 way, then 17 hours back 2 days later) for a funeral for my wifes grandma. The car we picked up didnt have working AC. The lady that runs this location didnt answer the phone after 3 attempts at calling. Called road side assistance. They refused to help because they car ran.Finally called corporate and they sent me to the Air Port to swap cars with a working vehicle. Drive 30 minutes out of my way in the opposite direction of where I need to go to get a working car. Get to Florida no problems. Find out we have plane tickets to fly back with 2 small children who have already been in the car for 17 hours. Called Budget corporate, the location the car was rented from, and customer service. All of them wanted $300 above the $238 we had already paid for 1 week.They hung up on us 3 times. Refused to offer any kind of bereavement discount, and were extremely rude on the phone.Do not use Budget ever. Their customer service is atrocious. Their respect for loyal customers is terrible. Dont be loyal to a company that wont be loyal to you.

Horrible service! I pre paid for my rental online and when I got there they didnt have the car I rented plus denied me based on a credit check. I showed the woman behind the counter that my agreement stated nothing about a credit check. She said I would have to wait 3 to 7 days to get a refund. I went down the road to enterprise and drove away in my new rental in less than 30 minutes.
