It is a great ministry with people who care. They have resources to to help those in need. And if you are willing to do your part and pull your own weight they have the tools and experience to help you succeed

Went to their dental clinic to have an infected wisdom tooth looked at. Over the phone they made it seem like I could have it extracted. It was a very unwelcoming environment, dental center was in was looked like a basement, nothing was sanitary. I could tell by the stains on everything. The radiation blanket they put over me for the Xray was stained with other peoples filth. It smelled musty and sweaty. Cracks in the walls, over all felt unsafe. They took TWO pictures of my teeth and told me they didnt feel comfortable doing the operation, which was NOT what I was told over the phone when I specified i needed a wisdom tooth extraction. I was there for maybe 15 minutes, they didnt even TRY to refer me to a surgeon that could operate sooner rather than later. They set an appointment three weeks out, told me to use MOUTHWASH to prevent further infection and they sent me on my way. Didnt give me antibiotics even though oral infections can spread into the blood stream when left untreated. They gave off the impression they didnt care AT ALL about what happened to me once I left the office. AND I was charged 50 dollars FOR NOTHING. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone seeking anything other that a basic cleaning, seeing as thats all those people know how to handle. Shouldnt even call themselves dentist. I went to aspen dental that same day and was given antibiotics and given a full treatment plan. If I could rate this place less than one star I would. They should honestly be shut down, as their medical equipment was NOT STERILIEZED. I could visually SEE stains and smudges on everything. Despicable. The secretary was very nice, the only positive thing throughout the whole experience.

This is the worst place. I was severely mistreated by the staff. And the staff let the other inmates mistreat me. As a result I was on the street in winter in summer pants and got hypothermia. It took me days to recover. Since then i was banned after a gal jumped in line in front of me in the bathroom and knocked me out and threw me to the floor. She made me go to the bathroom in my pants. Since covid I have been unable to bathe and I have lost 20 lbs. I also have been unable to wash my clothes. I used to be a very clean person but Mels has ruined me. I rarely eat except at Gods kitchen. And their meals leave me still hungry. I have had constant diarrhea so I am not getting any nutrition from the food I eat. I know I am dieing. Im 73 years old.

Sorry not even..these (girls) staff are trouble period they lye directly in front of your face creating scenes during another persons emergency..it seems they want recognition of some kind...they need more empathic employees...period!

Stayed for two weeks..... Two weeks to long. Nothing Christian about this place. While they do help crack heads and alcoholics get cash assistance so they can get more drugs to abuse, then come back to sleep there. Tried multiple times to attend a service, only to have no one show up, or even be informed that there is no service. Guards allow friends special perks, since most were in the program before. Who ever is in charge is either blind or could care less. Either way the devil is in charge here. Gods light has a slim chance of breaking threw the evil cloud over this place. Very dissatisfied

First off I would like to thank mel trotter for opening its doors to a person that was broken like myself. When I came to mel trotter 4 months ago I was broken. I was addicted to drugs and alcohol for 14 years. I was scared and lost, until one day I had, had enough of that kind of life. Mel trotter has a program called step up its for men and women. I entered the program and it completely changed my life people dont even recognize me anymore. Im so thankful for the step up program and all the people that put in so much hardwork into my transformation. If you want to change your life and really want to change I highly suggest the mel trotter step up program.

Theyre helping my girlfriend in the recovery program while I stay in the big shelter. So grateful she decided to stop her drinking. cant wait for her to graduate and we find a place!

This wonderful place saved my life! Anyone who gives Mel Trotter bad reviews its because they didnt want to follow the rules. The ministry threw violent and aggressive women out on the cold streets because they were a threat to the other women. Come on! If you are going to write a bad review about this shelter make sure you tell the whole story! Ive seen first hand how wonderful the staff, security, and ministry is to everyone. They give everyone who walks in a chance at a second life. Believe that!

Im very grateful to Mel Trotters Ministry! Ive a place to live and food to eat. Its clean, warm and dry. Ill be in the housing program eventually.

I went from sleeping out ont grounds in bus then from friend and famlily to mel trotter it been quit a ordeal for i i was cold and hunger but met trotter is the place of helping one another with cold and winter weatherthanks.

It was one of the worse places I have ever stay I will not recommend it to a dying human or animal

For the most part its a safe place to sleep and they feed you. But the program step up is a disorganized mess. The advocate said that it didnt matter if she was liked she was still getting her paycheck. It has very little to do with recovery and or getting you on track with your sobriety. And a whole lot to do with looking good for their big time donors who fund the place. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

As a volunteer, I cant say enough about the wonderful people who work at Mel Trotter. Every time I am there I am greeted by a staff member who is always positive and full of gratitude! The work done at Mel Trotter is amazing, and this organization is definitely a huge benefit to our community.

Im sad to see the poor reviews. Without Mel Trotters, many of the homeless would have no shelter or a place to stay at night. If the reviews are accurate, I hope the staff go through training about rights (training is available at Network 180 and I believe there is no charge). Even some of the nastiest people respond very well to kind words and being treated with respect. I know..Im from Servants Center, and we serve the homeless and others who cant fend for themselves. Thank you, Mel Trotters, for being there for us until we can find placement for our clients.

I cant believe this place calls itself a ministry. The staff throw women out into the freezing cold for arguing about even small things like what time to go to sleep. Animals are treated better than humans at this place. It is not at all safe place to even visit. The staff fears correcting violent homeless people that have threaten to hurt others and people that steal each others stuff. No one including the staff reads the Bible. The staff even takes Bibles away from anyone that has one.

I stay here now and its the worst. It took 3 weeks for the shower to get fixed in the youth shelter. The staff only care about a paycheck, and they are people who stayed here and probably currently live here. Its 6/26/2019. And I absolutely regret staying here. They dont provide the youth in the Youth Emergency Shelter, with any supplies for success, unless you talk 1on1. They make it so you depend on them. Somewhere along the line someone is making money off the general population. I asked for something to take with me to work till I got paid and my lunch had a spider the size of a dime in it. Considering the lunches are sealed with a staple or two I still didnt want to partake in the meal. I came here 06/17/2017 and my stay so far has been terrible. Im 23. I moved here from Detroit. And I wished I found somewhere else. On the phone the youth advocate, was pleased to accept me, due to open vacancy, but it was just to put a youth in a bed, besides that, I did everything on my own. They feed you when if youre resident....... Im not the outspoken type, Im actually fairly nice and easygoing. I plan on finishing my stay cause Im not here for the staff, Im here for the betterment of me. But I came here with the intentions that I would be getting on my own feet, and I did and now I am. I have plans to get my own place and continue work. but my advice to anyone who comes here. Be independent, be you. Dont rely on anyone or anything here. Only you can better you. If youre my age or younger, get on your grind. Cause prayer and Jesus isnt gonna put you in better hands. Only you will. This place is not a church, its not salvation from homeless, its just a step above it...... If any of the head honchos are reading this message, my name is Jay. And I approve this message. I made it out this crack head infested dump and made a name for myself 2 hours away fr my home cause my life it a speed bump I wasnt ready for. The community did more help than the shelter. I guess in a way. I used them, just like they use us......God bless this place, cause this ministry is falling to greed and corporate lust. And its places like this, that create homeless, not help them. If you made it this far. I hope you reconsider. If not, I guess this is goodbye ✌️

They treat everyone well and do their best to help everyone get back on their feet. Staff are awesome! :D

They help so many people. Its so much help when people dont have nothing to buy food with and they ha e children to feed. God bless.

Just had the oddest incident with a Tianna and a laughing hyena that appeared to be a fellow employee who got a kick out of the blatant brassness that appeared to be first nature for the cohorts who are also called employees.... Contention shouldnt be the first line of defense but history tells us all the lower level communicators work in that realm. I wont and appreciate the services that is being rendered to the community.

Just understanding homelessness shouldnt be so difficult. Everything is everything and nothing more. No other views should be expressed in government facilities helping humans.

Its not gay friendly, I stayed there one nighy. And left... A guy grabbed my arm. Another guy took his clothes off and layed in my bunk while sexual harassing me... I met these 2 beautiful black men. My age. Theyre in the same boat as I was in. I feel bad for them both. Staff was abusive towards me. Regina was the nicest one and understood my problems and was very sweet and said being gay is not a mistake... 💝

Wasnt a fan. First night there they gave me a bunk that reeked so bad of urine it burned my eyes. Staff insisted that he personally washed it, and then said my alternative was to go without. Showers were horrific. I got pneumonia my second day there, possibly from the mold in the showers or the piss soaked blanket.I feel for ANYONE relegated to depend on this place for sanctuary.If they get funding for this place I would be curious to find out where said money goes. It sure as hell isnt for cleaning or repairs!!

Company donated some material. Guy that picked up was arrogant and rude. You got stuff send it to habitat they appreciate it.

Im. Currently in the shelter, and I really looking forwards to reaching my goal to find housing. This is only a step up not a permanent solution for me. Staff is friendly and nice.

No one of any decency bars a single middle aged woman with arthritis and other health issues just for using the toilet too long! Also, why are there restricted hours on any restroom while you know several of the women have health issues? It wasnt about my mouth, infact, its the quiet ones-who arent hanging out with a group everyday that you do this to and I can tell that you dont appreciate anyone who keeps to her/his self! Also, discrimination tends to pick on the ones who cant fight back.

Its a non smoking facility so if you have cigarettes stash them somewhere or they will get thrown away the food is tolerable I dont eat soggy salad like every shelter soup kitchen seems to have drunks scattered from the shelter a block up to degoges
