Great experience with my two sons. First it was a one time thing, now they want to go back so its turned into chores for horse-riding less. Im planning on paying for some myself, but they extras theyll do chores for grandma and I. They are learning how to be responsible cowboys now. Meanwhile the horses get extra love and food we bring them. Its a win win π€
My daughter is in the English class and it was great!! Her instructor Danya was awesome!! She really took her time with the class and was very patient with my daughter. I am looking forward to our next lesson.
We came for Sunday 4:30 June 6th classes and no one came they donβt answer the phone and we were told to go that Sunday.we called the place and their message box was full.
Great people! Most of the horses are rescues, which is awesome! If youre looking for a class that is about high level competition this isnt the place for you. If you want to learn to ride or get back into riding its perfect. If you decide you want to move on to high level competition, they will refer you to other training facilities. The first class you take on a Saturday morning is really an orientation and evaluation of what your skills are so they can recommend the right classes for you. Go a little early for check in, especially if you need a helmet or proper foot wear. You wont be riding for the entire hour, but if you take the time to read how their introductory class works, youll know this before you get there. I will most certainly be taking classes, very likely leasing as well, and definitely will be volunteering to help care for these amazing rescue horses.
Just a lovely place to be if you love horses :)
My eight year old daughter and I just took their one hour intro horse riding lesson. It was beyond amazing. I got Freckles, and my daughter rode Max. They were sweet horse - gentle and smart, and the instructors were so patient and helpful. Thank you for a great experience!!!
Let me start with saying the bad reviews given above are complete bogus! I have been with S.T.A.R.S for over 2 years now taking lessons as well as boarding my own horse at the facility. I have been around horses for 15+ years, have an Associates degree in Equine Science, and have never found a friendlier place to be in the horse community! The facility is an amazing place and strives to teach all of its clients and students everything there is to know about horsemanship and riding. The owner of the program and all of the instructors are extremely friendly and have exceptional background with horses.Every day you attend a lesson at S.T.A.R.S you can expect to learn something new. Lesson quality at S.T.A.R.S is phenomenal and students are taught through encouraging instruction. Students are even taught how to groom, saddle and bridle the horse on their very own, and are NEVER forced to tack the horse up alone! There is always an instructor present ready to help every student in all aspects. On top of this students are never given a horse that will be too much to handle. Students are always given a horse that will help them gain confidence rather than intimidate them.If you lesson at S.T.A.R.S you can be assured to make some great horsie friends, gain all the confidence you need to ride, and all the skills you need to handle horses.
I have been going here for lessons and I love the place.
I could not be any happier with the service we received! This was my first time riding a horse and they walked me through everything during the entire process. Prices are so reasonable and they dont harass you to sign up for following lessons. I LOVE that, it encourages me to go back so much more!
Miscommunication, charge way to much for what they offer, horses look tired and not cared for, shortened lessons and charge full price. Worst experience ever. Will not be back.
I love this place. I came to S.T.A.R.S. 4 years ago and I didnt know anything. The instructors taught me how to ride when I knew absolutely nothing, and when I wanted to quit and give up, they encouraged me to continue on. S.T.A.R.S. is not a huge competing riding barn with a bunch of expensive, highly trained horses. This is a place where you learn how to ride, make friends, and have fun with your horses. Competitions are available, but they do not force you in to it. There is absolutely no pressure to compete at this barn.I have personally ridden at Fox Mask Farms with Pam Stedman, and I loved it. However, this barn is an English competition barn. It wasnt what I was looking for. I couldnt afford to compete, even though I am at competing level to be doing 3 - 39 jumping. I want to be able to ride and not have to worry about competition. The owner, Danya Thornton, is incredibly friendly, loving, and understanding. She personally has given me opportunities and exceptions to help me out financially. She loves and cares for her students, and if you are a loving, caring person back to her then she will return every ounce of it and more.
Maybe focus on your own facility instead of giving nearby animal shelters one-star reviews without ANY comment or explanation. This facility is in the business of giving one star reviews with no comment/explanation for nearby horse and animal facilities (including local rescue groups too). That is PETTY, sickening, and frustrating to the people who dedicate their lives to helping the animals your facility capitalizes on. If you work for STARS Horsemanship you should be ashamed and embarrassed. You get one-star, but you deserve none.
I really appreciate the instructors, but feel very frustrated that time after time I wait from 10 minutes or more into my daughters private lessons. There is no time open between lessons for lingering parents who dont seem to care they are taking up time of someone else lesson and rest time for the instructors and horses does not happen. Last private lesson my daughter has and half of it is gone waiting for the lesson before to leave. I gave up and left with both my daughter and I frustrated while the family before just stands their blocking us from getting time we are scheduled for. So why am I paying $45 for 30 minutes and my daughter only gets less than 15 minutes of ride time?I think the instructors are great with the kids, but the structure of not giving any break time between private lessons always shorts someone who is still paying full price for reduced time and this is hard on instructors and horses in 100 plus weather. Please reconsider the structure of back to back lessons for the sake of other paid customers, the instructors, and the horses.
Danya and the stars team work very hard to give you the very best in professional instruction. I have been around horses for over twenty years and many of the teachers are the most patient and knowledge I have ever meet. 5 stars!
Been sending my granddaughter here for 8 months. She loves it. Instructors are great.
I am shocked at the negative review of this barn. I started riding here with my 10 year old daughter just over a year ago. We started lessons because my daughter needed something to build her confidence and she was afraid of large horses. The instructors were kind and patient. The two we use either have degrees or are getting degrees in horse care. They have worked with my daughter on not only riding but ground care, tacking, grooming, feeding and more. She has gone from being terrified to getting the horse out of his stall, tacking him (with help from the instructor), mounting and riding. She can post and is working ground poles and cross-rails. The barn has a large number of horses, some of which are rescue. The rescue horses sometimes have health issues but they are not used in the program until they are checked and cleared. There is always a list on the board of which horses are being used and which need rest. In a large barn, you are always going to have horses on rest they are not overused. Most days there are only lessons in the evenings from 4-7 and the lessons usually only have 1-4 students and some are owners. The barn has a full time stable person who feeds and cleans the stalls. The horses do have bedding and the barn is always open for anyone to walk around and visit. The barn has one large arena, one medium square pen and two round pens. This is not a show barn where you show up, get on a horse, ride and leave. This is a very hands on barn where the students are taught about grooming, tacking, identifying parts of the horse and more. I have taken the jumping class and I learned a lot. The level of instruction does depend on the level of the student. When my daughter started the focus was just holding the reins correctly and good seat position. Now she knows about posting, collecting and leg reining. I would never ride at a barn where there horses were abused or mistreated. The horses get wormed, supplements, shoes and toys. I encourage you to visit to walk around the barn. They also have a vet on call and who visits regularly. Very caring owner and instructors.
My wife took my son to this place a couple of months ago. He did not enjoy it at all.He said he was given a horse that runs only when someone whistles. My son is young and can not whistle. While the other horses ran, his horse did not and there was nobody to help him. When I offered to take him there again, he said definitely no.
I love this place!
Instructors are SO nice, and its awesome that they are rescuing horses from the kill pens!
This place is amazing, i defiantly recommend, especially for beginners, im in nauv, Mrs.Dayna is my trainer, she is very kind and will take the time to show you proper ways of riding, getting the horses to move, leading, and tacking up. The horses are gentle and kind as well, all rescues, mostly from the kill pen (ex. Charity ) one of the horses stories is as follows, big al is a 6 ft ( at the withers), or 18 hands tall 2,300 lb thoroughbred, he was rescued from the racing industry after 6 years of racing, instead of the usual 2, winning over $25,000, he is currently 19 years old, happy and healthy here. If you are looking at reviews, wondering which horse to use, Picasso was my first lesson horse there, he is sweet, but very calm. My personal favorite is Jack, hes a brown thoroughbred, 15 - 17 years old, very beautiful spunky horse, but defiantly not a beginner horse, that applies to fancy and lady as well, as they are spookier and just want to run, over all best decision was coming here, horses loved and taken car over, just like the riders ( its $45 for a hour lesson and $25 for your first lesson, if you get to chose trainer, Mrs. Dayna ( the owner) and Mr.Daniel are by far the nicest, most experienced trainers there. )
Lots of fun- my girls love the environment and the people!.
If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Its true its a beautiful stable and has a nice atmosphere - at first. When I first started taking lessons there, everyone seemed nice and friendly. However, after taking extra lessons at a different stable, I realized how awfully they treat their horses! Most of the horses were old (which is fine with me) but were not taken care of. Their hooves were misshapen because the owner uses the cheapest farrier she can, and the horses are always lame. Some have arthritis so bad they can barely walk out of their stalls. The stalls are cleaned badly (in addition to being tiny) and the whole stable smells like urine and feces. In addition, the horses have to stand in their stalls on hard ground because they arent given shavings. I started leasing a horse there, who started off with hoof problems before he was even put in the program. They overused him so much that he was continually on stall rest! That poor boy died from colic only a few MONTHS after arriving at that awful stable. Some of the teachers are kind, some have awful dispositions. None treat the horses correctly and overuse them even in the summer heat until they foam at the mouth. I spoke to one teacher who was using a limping horse for her lesson because her student was too harsh on the horses trying to get them to go faster, and that horse will take a beating and still wont move, so its a good learning experience for my student,. Please, dont give these people any business!
Be sure to approach the location from the south. If you come from the north, there will be a fence blocking your path.
Took forever to get on Vanna but ima cut yβall some slack because there was a lot of people. Good riding instructor btw π.11-10-18Edit: I noticed you guys have over worked horses, youβre literally killing them, and you guys arenβt very organized. Sorry to tell you this but fix yourselves.10-15-19
My daughter started horseback riding lessons nearly three months ago after my wife found a Groupon. The first lesson was great and my daughter was hooked. The trainers are very hands-on, theyre great with kids and animals, and I am simply amazed how quickly my daughter has been able to learn how to ride well. I highly recommend this place. As an additional note, Im really surprised by the couple of negative reviews. This facility takes in mistreated and abandoned horses. Nursing them to health can be a long process and in some cases may take the rest of the horses lifetime to overcome past abuse. Ive never seen them treated with anything less than compassion and love.
This barn is clean and there is no way any of their horses or boarded horses are abused. The entire staff loves each of their horses and take awesome care of them. They have special Olympics for the children, beginning lessons with the proper way to get a horse to respond to you without using your heels to kick the horse or a whip, just by using your body the proper way makes them go where you want. I was blown away when I watched how they train the horses to respond. They have an awesome program that teaches children who have never been on a horse or might be afraid of a horses how gentle they are and how even the smallest child can handle them. They show patience and understanding to everyone. They always have time to help you if you have questions and if you cant get to the barn to take care of your horse, they always have someone who will walk it, feed it, wash it down (in this heat) and put the fly mask on them. Ive seen where someone has gone to every stall to make sure that each horse had their fly mask on and if they didnt, they would put one on the horse before they left for the night.. This is an awesome place to learn or to improve yourself. They even had me on a horse and Im 62 years old and not in the best of shape but they showed me how to mount the horse properly and by the time I was done, I got the horse to go around the ring instead of heading to the gate which I was told they do if you dont have them under control and not once did I kick the horse, it was all done through the body. You couldnt ask for a better place for either yourself or your child to go to. I would give this a 10 or higher if I could. God bless you STARS, keep up the excellent work and give the horses a carrot from Granma.I think this is the best barn around. The staff is extremely helpful. They work with young children and up who have no experience with horses and teach them how to approach a horse, how to get the horse to respond to their commands without any whips or kicking them in the side. They teachers do have whips but never, never use it with malice, they only use it to touch the horse to lead them in the direction they want the horse to go. They feed, clean stalls, give vitamins to all the horses. All horses in the PROGRAM (leaning to ride, learning poles, barrels, etc) are only worked for 30 minutes then put away. With the heat there now, they constantly water down the horses and try not to use them much at all. The care and love that the staff shows toward these horses is one of pure love. They do whatever they can to assist someone if they need to do an evening lesson or a Sunday lesson. My granddaughter goes there and its the best thing ever. She is in complete awe of her horse and any other horse. Its a safe place where the children and parents dont have to worry that their child isnt being taken care of. They are taught how to love and treat these amazing animals. Ive seen where this one young lady wanted to keep using her heels to make the horse do what she wanted and was told that if she did it again rather than using her body to tell the horse what to do, she would have to dismount. She started using her body and the horse did just what she wanted and without the heel to the side. I would recommend this barn to anyone who wanted their children to learn the proper way to treat and respect a horse with getting it back in return by the love the horse will show them. Keep it up STARS youre the best, EXCELLENT HORSEMANSHIP BARN.
Love this stable and we love Ms. Rose!!

Professional programs, and qualitative attention to each student. Highly recommended!
Lame horses, lame manager, lame instructors. Dirty place filled with health hazards to both horses and people, gossip and abusive practices. Instructors are not qualified through any certification programs and appear to be teenagers. Children run wild on horseback colliding with one another in the arena at home and at horse shows. The facility has a horrible reputation with several local arenas due to how their students conduct themselves on horseback while exhibiting. Its about $$$$$$ and nothing more! Horses have and will continue dying due to their negligence.
Best experience for the kids
Happy horses and happy people!
Over 60 horses on just over 4 acres(two horse to a stall at times) Its all about the money NOT about how clean or well maintained the facility is! Health concerns
They are only doing it for the money and most of the stalls and very small thereβs no place for you to turn out your horse
15 minutes of standing around, 5 minutes10 minutes of sales pitch for more services, 20 minutes of riding, then they end early.
Dirty, smells of urine, horses over used, teachers under qualified. Its an accident waiting to happen. Ive seen parents let a 2 yo to walk unattended down behind a line of tethered horses. Not one teacher reacted.
