Although Vector Marketing narrowly dodges being a scam by legal and practical definitions, there are complaints to be had about the recruiting tactics--just do your research and youll find SO many, including legal actions taking against the company for their recruiting tactics. For instance, they target high school graduates with this great opportunity that fits perfectly with college and teaches amazing life skills. Kind of like the marketing tactics of the military, which I also have a deep disdain for. When I was first reached out to, I was told that a friend had recommended me for the position and I was told the company was Vector (not Vector Marketing, the ACTUAL name of the company), which is misleading as the second word reveals to us the nature of the company--which they dont want you to know until further down the line. With a name like Vector and the friend who recommended me, I assumed it was some sort of STEM-related job, which got me excited. But no... its a marketing position selling knives. I was still willing to do it, however, until I realized that in order to earn minimum wage in Florida, I would have to do 23 demos in a week (assuming I made base pay and didnt reach the quota for incentive pay). Which, by the way, incentive pay depends on whether or not you can actually sell the product--which, knowing me, I probably wouldnt be able to as Im not someone cut out for sales. The only sales I would probably make would be to family--they say you dont have to pressure anyone because you get paid anyway, but my sweet old grandmother isnt going to say no to buying kitchen knives from her grandson and they KNOW that! While Im on the topic of pay, lets talk about how they initially mislead would-be sales reps with the pay. I was initially told that the pay was $15, which lead me to believe that was per hour, not per appointment (which it actually is) and so I naturally got super excited: $15 an hour for a first job? Hell yeah! But no, thats not the truth of the matter. To summarize my relatively incoherent and off-the-walls review: is it a scam? Technically, no. But their recruitment tactics are downright shameful at best and illegal at worst.

This job changed my life in the best way possible. There really isn’t anything like it for young professionals looking for real world experience

Dishonest, no integrity whatsoever, preys upon young college-age people who just want a job, puts up all kinds of fake employee comments online that resort to name calling people who report on their practices. Theyll always claim that they made $30-50K in their first year, which is bogus. This job requires you to buy over $100 worth of equipment just to demo to potential customers. NEVER, EVER take a job that requires you to pay that much up front. Lets be honest, thats a lot of money worth of food for the average poor college student. They claim its not door-to-door sales, that its not cold calling. Truth is its a little of both and just as tedious and unrewarding. I did my research. I did not return for the second day of UNPAID TRAINING. (On the first day, one of our trainers obviously did not know what she was doing and wound up almost slicing off one of her digits when trying to demonstrate for us. I felt bad for her on two levels.) I politely left a message for them saying I wouldnt be returning. I received a rude message on my phone later asking where the hell I was... even though I left them a message saying I wouldnt be there. How professional. These sort of businesses are not worth your time or anyone elses time, whether working for or buying from them. You can get sharp-as-heck knives that are dishwasher safe anywhere. You can look up all sorts of reports on how this company has been sued for misrepresentation. Knowledge is power.

Its funny how people that dont have the correct information are quick to act as if they do know all the information. Vector is by far one of the best jobs a student can do through school. I started 7 years ago and I have loved every minute of it. I highly recommend all my friends and family to give it a shot at an interview! You will get the right information when you go i to check it out. The wall street journal wouldnt have written multiple articles on the great opportunity provided if it wasnt LEGIT.Ive paid my way through school since my Senior Year of HS

If you want to set yourself up for success, both professionally and personally, give Vector a shot. Vector taught me how to be a professional and gave me confidence in myself. I made friendships that have lasted past my employment, and I have learned lessons that will last me a life time. I had a blast while I worked there and would highly recommend trying it out yourself!
