If you ended up taking your car somewhere else even after coming here, you probably need to re-evaluate your decisions on a more personal level.Darnell is the friendliest service professional, will treat you like family, and has a passion for Subaru that comprises and is reflected in his life work. He truly knows what hes doing with an enthusiasm unmatched at other shops, and he charges a fair transparent rate for his work. I dont know what else you need from a car specialist.Like someone else said, theres no sneaky prices, no extra work or hidden costs. You get what you need, and you get it done right.They do everything, from maintenance to modes and tunes (they have a dyno now).I just wish every place I went to was like this.

Browns is an excellent Subaru specialist for repairs and customizations. I am extremely impressed with the professional and expeditious attention and service I received when I brought my Forester in for repairs. Browns is and will be my future go to when I need repairs to my 2017 Subaru Forester.

Ive never trusted a mechanics work more than I trust Darnells! He is honest and fair. The rates arent the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. And he doesnt try to sell you parts and services that you dont need. Highly recommend for all your Subaru needs!

I took my WRX into Darnells shop for a couple bolt-on mods and I have to say that Im blown away by how awesome of an experience it was. When I came to pick my subie up, before he took payment (which was a totally fair and transparent process), he handed me my keys and said, go take it around the block and make sure your happy with everything. After I came back with a huge smile, he showed me all over his shop like I was a friend. Trust is hard to come by in this business; Browns Performance has mine.

I called D&L Performance with problems with brakes. I was told to bring it on in but that they were booked up with appointments. I was treated wonderful. Before this visit, all my fixes and routine maintenance were performed at the dealership because I always wanted to provide the best care to her. However, there is always that feeling and experience that dealership simply tried to fix the issue by replacing the parts, rather than tried to really understand what went wrong. Yes, problem can be fixed at the dealership, however, it comes with extra higher cost from the customer, still without knowing what exactly went wrong. This time, I can not afford to have the engine replaced to fix the non-starting problem. I chose D & L based on the previous reviews posted here. It turned out that it was a very good decision made. D & L is different from the dealership because they truly care what customer wants. In addition, D & L want to understand what was really going on with the vehicle and search the optimal solution to solve the problem. Even better, D & L have the expertise to both diagnose and solve the issue. The vehicle was at the shop for almost a month. All kinds of actions were taken to diagnose the root cause and fix the problem. I have the full confidence when I hand my Subaru to D & L for services and repairs because I know they will take a very good care of her with customers interests in mind. These guys do what the dealership cant and/or wont. After Subaru of Gainesville tried to up sell me a radiator and took a week to not even get the job done, I took the car to D&L. They got me a better radiator, had it installed, and ensured I was happy with the work all within 2 days. Brought my 2008 Outback into D&L today to have the timing belt replaced (something you want a shop that specializes in Subarus to do). Darnell did a super job, explained everything he was doing to the car, pointed out other issues and how much time until I would likely need to address them (if ever), and test drove the car with me at the end to make sure everything was working properly. D&L is a totally honest repair shop that will not pressure you into getting things fixed that you don’t need to have fixed. They also look for ways of saving customers money, such as using EOM parts/fluids purchased from the actual manufacturer rather than Subaru. I was extremely happy with the service and plan to bring my 2009 Legacy there in a few months to get its timing belt replaced as well.

Good Subaru shop. Darnell knows his stuff and isnt shy to let you know. He can come of as cocky, but thats his style. Hes a really nice person and will get work done on time and correctly. If you have a subaru or have a subaru powered something, bringing it to him will not be a mistake. He is also an auto broker so if you are looking for a used Subaru he may have something for you.

My car had a slight oil leak. Darnell diagnosed the problem immediately and went to work on the same day. My car was returned to me in a timely manner. Most importantly though, Darnell is a man who sticks by his word. Not to mention, his coworkers were also courteous and pleasant. I definitely recommend coming to this shop for any issue you might have.

I have a 2011 Subaru Outback. I started having problems with the AC in Sept 2015 when it started blowing warm air at idle. To make a long story short, over the next several months I took it to two Subaru dealers and four other car shops trying to get it fixed. Although I paid thousands of dollars, no one was able to fix the AC problem (the dealers were the least helpful, btw). Then in May/June of 2016 I found Darnell at D&L Performance. He correctly diagnosed the problem and fixed my AC. Finally! He truly understands Subarus. He and Josh work well together. After he fixed the AC I went back for some other maintenance issues. I drove off, got no more than 0.5 mi from the shop, and my car completely died in the middle of the road. I called Darnell and he and Josh immediately came out and determined that my alternator had failed, so my battery had died. Who knows why it chose that moment to fail. They jumped my battery and I drove back to the shop. Darnell called around trying to find me a new alternator but it was nearly 5pm and no one had it. So he and Josh pulled a used one off the shelf and installed it which allowed me to drive home. I went back the next day and they installed a new alternator. They really went above and beyond for me and I appreciate that greatly. If you have a Subaru, dont go anywhere else.

There is no better place in North Florida to take your Subaru, whether you want an oil change, an engine swap, or anything in-between.Ive been working on cars for 10 years and I usually would do most work on my vehicles myself, but after finding these guys I just take my Subarus here for everything.You cant beat the prices they offer for the quality of work. Youll save at least 20-30% vs the dealership and I trust Darnell over a random dealership technician.They also buy up Subarus, fix and sell them at way lower prices than youll find at any dealer. No official warranty, but Ive bought two cars from them and theyve been great. And just knowing Darnell has been over it is the next best thing to a warranty.Darnell is an absolute expert on anything Subaru. He knows exactly which parts break, and can diagnose most problems almost instantly. I always love picking his brain when Im around.Chris provides amazing customer service as well. They built and installed a high performance motor in my WRX, and Chris kept me updated and was sending me tons of pictures throughout the whole process. Both he and Darnell gave me great recommendations for the build. They know which parts work well together and the best ways to hit performance goals.Oh and they also sell parts (high performance and factory) and racing fuel. Theyre really a one stop shop for anything Subaru.This shop is honestly one of the things Ill miss most about Gainesville when I leave. At that point Ill probably be working on my Subarus again. I know Ill be back in town if I want another engine swap.

Performances timeline.Jun 19, 2019, 10:22 AMI bought my first subaru in 2003 and met Darnell when he was a technician at the Subaru dealership. When he ventured out on his own I followed him to his new location and he worked on two of my subarus as we became friends and I had complete trust in him. However, the last couple years, I have been having my doubts about him for several reasons. But to make a long story short, the last visit my son brought in his car as oil had blown everywhere and it turned out to be a head gasket. He charged us $1700, WOW expensive! not even 6 months later one of the gaskets blew again and he lives not in this area, so he had to go to a franchised local auto mechanic. We have pictures and written notification of what happened and darnell would not even talk about offering to have it towed in. Nor guarantee that if it were to be found out that it had to be something he replaced 6 months ago. It turns out one of the belts that usually should be taken off with a machine was able to be taken off by hand. Tuffy s charged much less then what D & L charged, thankfully, they have better, trustworthy mechanics and even offered a rental car when his car was in the shop. Do not bring your car to D & L performance. I can not prove but I also think he takes parts off the cars he works on and uses them for cars he is rebuilding and puts something less new on your car. He is in it for his own gain, kind of shady.

After driving from Oregon to Florida D&L replaced both lower control arms in a few hours and the price was beyond fair. Had money left to treat the wife to dinner. Thanks to all at D&L.
