Staff is RUDE, unprofessional, and care more about their personal biases than giving the dogs a loving home.I applied for a specific puppy, Funky Q, online after seeing him in person at an adoption event. Was told I needed written landlord approval. My lease stating “pets are allowed with approval” as well as a verbal agreement over the phone with my landlord wasn’t good enough.I asked if I could pay his fee and pick him up once the email goes through- they tell me NO HOLDS.My landlord sent the email but unfortunately Funky Q was adopted that day.Two weeks later they make a post about how Funky Q is still there.I come back ecstatic, I have a formal email from my landlord allowing approval, I fill out another application for Funky Q, have the cash and supplies all ready to take him home.Front desk ladies want nothing to do with me once I asked them to look into my application. They said “we didn’t get an email”So my landlord sends TWO more copies and even a screenshot of the correct email(directly from the business card the lady grew in my face when I wanted to double check the email)Front desk “I don’t know what to tell you we still don’t have it. You’re not adopting a dog today.”Leave the place upset, get a new email stating they received my email and I’m approved.I return so happy and ready to take home this puppy. Same rude lady at the front desk then tells me that “we have a lot of interns that don’t know, you’re not approved, you need to leave. Funky Q has an appointment to be adopted” which is funny because they don’t have holds? Or maybe they only hold dogs for personal reasons.I have never in my life have been treated so rudely when all I wanted to do was give that puppy a loving home. The following day I found an 8 month old pitbull puppy at the Spotsy animal shelter and he will be a spoiled boy. Only $85 adoption fee vs a RIDICULOUS $300-$400 adoption fee.Thank you ODHS for being such jerks to me that I ended up finding my fur baby at a place that cares and isn’t price gouging their adoption fees for underweight and sick puppies.
My family got our puppy Jarvis from here. The establishment was well organized, the animals were healthy, and the staff was quick to respond and give us information about the puppies while we were finding our new family member. It is very important to us that we got a healthy puppy, and Old Dominion seems to have it down. Lots of animals to choose from, but sorry, we got the cutest one!! Seriously, I would post a pic on here if I knew how, lol.
Adopted two pups from here. One was a foster fail. My son and gf just adopted their 1st from them. Love how they have expanded to have a better set up for the dogs.
Please believe some of the poor reviews. You may get lucky and get a great dog that fits your family but dont necessarily believe what the folks here tell you. Spend lots of time getting to know the dog before commiting.I returned our dog and they were not the least bit interested in why. Just wanted my name and signature, no questions asked. They said our dog had been adopted before but returned and said it was what they called a Covid adoption. They said our dog was the sweetheart of the shelter and how much everyone loved her. Well, if they adopt her out again, that will be around $900 they will have received for one dog and the dog we adopted needs professional help.
BEWARE! Pretty sad to see this organization was able to hide the review my dad shared. That post shared my little brother was attacked by a dog adopted here, paid $270 for it. The shelter demanded the dog back, and expects us to pay another $270 for another dog. This dog is currently available on their site and only states “mouthy player”! Not that it attacked a toddler, and currently is under a mandatory quarantine! This place refuses to treat known tick born conditions, and refused to disclose aggressive dogs to the new owners!
They turned me down because I had a few tickets on my driving record. What dose that have to do with giving a dog a good home. I have 3 that are the happiest dogs you ever meet. They have lost all my support and I use to give to them alit. Duck this place
We adopted a pet from them today. Everyone at this location are AWESOME!!! Very patience and. Attentive. They were patience and lovely to the pets and customers. Great job done!
Excellent place, got our puppy from here and the people there are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They take time to explain and give you the dogs story and background
Fantastic service and quality adoption center. My wife and I just adopted our second furbaby from here. If you are looking to add a family member they are definitely worth reaching out to.
It seems like reviews are either 1s or 5s here... Our experience was good enough I would say, probably right in between. We went to adopt a dog that we had been approved for and were told there on the spot that she had been spayed only two days before. Im all for spaying for a dog, but having that info beforehand would have been extremely helpful. She ended up being in pain and we needed to seek emergency pain medication the day after at our own vet. She also came to us with kennel cough - not a huge deal, but again, we would have better prepared our home so we wouldnt risk our other pet getting sick. While at the vet, we also found out our dog had double ear infections and another very treatable condition. All of this added up to a lot of extra care, time, and money. We love our dog and appreciate that so many people there are volunteers. Just wish they had done better basic animal vet care for our girl prior to adopting her out, just for her own basic comfort level at least. It worked out in the end for us with the dog we have, probably wouldnt recommend anyone here or go back here.
I adopted a dog from them and he is the sweetest thing ever. They were so honest and very professional and the facility was very clean.
After placing the application to adopt a puppy I waited a week like their website said. I wasn’t upset because they said it was volunteered based, but when they were having an open adoption a week later that would have the dogs I were interested in and did not contact me I was confused. I messaged them to inquire about my application, which said I would be registering the dog as an emotional support animal. They said I couldn’t adopt a dog as an esa because they didn’t have any trainers or were able to do a behavioral test (which only service animals are required to have). I told them they didn’t need any of that and sent them a link to a reputable source. The reason I mentioned it was going to be registered as an esa is because I have a no pet policy in my apartment complex. While the dog would be my emotional support animal, I was only doing it so I could have a dog in my apartment complex which they would have allowed per the law. I recommend the volunteers become more knowledgeable about emotional support animals versus service dogs because they are very different. Overall upset because I was very excited to give a puppy at home, but not surprised after reading other reviews of them being unprofessional.
Amazing people. They do a wonderful job. We love our new dog. Thanks! The initial review was 5 stars. When I went to register the chip in our dog (he had one when he arrived at the shelter) I did a basic search and found out he was not 2 years old, but 6 years old and where he was chipped which may offer me more historical info on the guy. We are not giving him up because of this. We wanted him for him, regardless. But calling a dog 2 when he is 6....not a minor oversight. Thats 4 less years well have with him. And we paid a higher price for a great breed and young dog. Adopters beware. Do some quick research on your phones if you want.
I absolutely love this rescue. It is completely volunteer -run and the people who run the rescue are extremely dedicated to providing the best experience possible to the dogs. They work hard to get as many dogs into foster homes as possible; this lets them thrive and also allows them to save more dogs! All the dogs get the medical care/shot (appropriate for their age) before adoption. 100% recommend. The people there care about the dogs, and will be completely honest with you about the dog you are adopting.
We love old dominion- the process is very organized and the fosters/volunteers do excellent taking care of the dogs. We got Barney last weekend.
Great place to find your forever furbaby.
I wish there was more information on animals given or a quarantine period before adopting to prevent costly surprises. Which unfortunately were alot of. 😔
Rude and unprofessional. No masks and disregard for social distancing so be careful if you are especially at risk. Dogs are basically on a factory line to get out the door ASAP and get some more money in. They don’t care about placing the dogs well, we had major aggression issues with the puppy we adopted and had to return him. We had previously been told that they had absolutely no info about the puppy so they couldn’t tell us anything. Yet, when I returned the puppy they claimed that he had been perfectly fine with other dogs in his foster and made out like it was our fault he was aggressive. Overall a horrible experience and I would recommend going elsewhere, there are much better shelters out there who care much more about placing a dog in an appropriate home.
I had a very negative experience here. I had adopted a puppy but sadly we had to return him. My wife and i jumped to soon to a conclusion that our daughter may be alergic without being 100% sure. We tried explaining our situation and all they said was to bring him back with out offering a suggestion on our situation. They were quick to say they had other people to adopt him without giving us a second chance or willing to work something out. To sum up this story this place is only interested in getting rid of the dogs and taking peoples money. The staff here is very rude, have no knowledge of the dogs, no social distancing nor wear masks.. my suggestion to anybody coming here is to make sure that you get the right dog for your needs or other wise they will not refund your money and just give a bs excuse.
Very friendly. They had lots of dogs to chose from.
I would not recommend adopting a pet from this shelter. The volunteers/staff are not knowledgeable about the pets that they bring in and their main goal is to get the dogs quickly adopted, not match the dog with the most successful adopter. I was really taken back when the volunteer could not answer my questions regarding the dogs medical history, temperament, etc. There are so many wonderful shelters in Virginia. I encourage you to take your business there! Please adopt from rescues who want the best for the pets they bring in and who will work with potential adopters to find a best match.
I am in awe of this organization. The amount of people that volunteer their time to rescue these pups from such awful situations is incredible! The owner is the most selfless person I have ever met. She puts all her time into getting these dogs the life the deserve. No matter the cost or how many hours it takes to drive to rescue these babies! I will always recommend this organization for anyone that is looking to adopt. If you can foster dogs this is the place to do that as well. They offer tons of training and assistance to help these pups that are sick and ones that need some extra tips for manners. These people dont get paid! They offer their time and love to these dogs. You cant put any price on that. Thank you Old Dominion for all that you do! ❤️
Old Dominion Humane Society is definitely the rescue you should come to if you want to adopt a great dog. It’s also a wonderful organization to foster or volunteer for. The staff do their very best to respond quickly to applications for adoption. The dogs are treated with love and attention EVERY DAY whether in their foster homes or at the center. And the staff does their very best to get to know each of the dogs so you’ll have good info on the pup you’re hoping to adopt.
I adopted a dog from them and when I got him home he showed some serious aggression issues which I had not been advised of. I tried to contact them several times and finally got through using Messenger. I know rescue dogs can have lots of issues and need time to decompress but these issues did not happen overnight! They finally emailed and told me then that the dog had resource guarding issues and leash issues... something I should have been told upfront. I don’t blame them for the issues but do hold them responsible for not disclosing the issues and for not contacting me immediately when I asked for help and information regarding the dog. Would not adopt from them because they won’t tell you everything you need to know for the good of the dog and your family situation!!So we returned the dog after taking him to a behaviorist and trainer. We had him on anti-anxiety meds and it took 2 trips to the vet because he was so aggressive . He bit my husband and showed aggression at various times but they have listed him for adoption again with no warning about his issues. He is a sweet dog sometimes but needs someone who is skilled at handling an aggressive dog. Be very careful when adopting from folks like this. They never wanted to know the circumstances of the bite or his aggression when we returned the dog.
My husband and I have been fostering with ODHS for some time now and we love it! ODHS provides everything you could need, from food to leashes to dog sweaters! They are extremely transparent about every dog and any behavioral problems they may have. Everyone there is on a volunteer basis, everyone does what they do out of the kindness of their heart and the joy for dogs. ODHS treats their dogs very well. I’m very proud to be a foster mom affiliated with them.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the dog we wanted was spoken for. I will try again.
Edit - the staff is great. And they were excellent when we realized we weren’t the best fit for a dog we adopted. Just wish they wore masks.I originally gave a 2 star because I didn’t see one staff member wearing a mask, eek! Most potential adopters were masked up. The indoor adoption portion of the facility is small, people were all over each other and in close contact. It was extremely nerve wreaking and discouraging to see a disregard for social distancing. A lot of other shelters have put in place new Covid rules, just not here. They’re putting adopters, their own and local communities lives in danger.
I will start off by saying what i read in other comments yes the staff dont wear masks or dont practice social distancing. Also they do seem more worried about getting the dogs adopted than worrying about the homes they go to. They are unprofessional and dont tell you everything. For my experience with them no I wouldnt recommend going here. I adopted a puppy from them and the puppy was great but showed serious dominant issues that wasnt playful and with me being a vet tech and dog trainer in the past I knew it wasnt playfulness like they said it was when emailed about it. also, with being where I lived and the excessive barking the neighbors complained. I decided the puppy wasnt going to be a good fit with my dog. I returned the puppy as stated in the contract the next day. On returning they had me fill out a owner surrender form, mind you I had the dog for 24hrs and they advised me theyre was no refund on the adoption fee which I paid 350 dollars. No where stated no refund or when you go in their office no where posted. I think they just out to get money and dont really care where the dogs end up. not only when I returned you can tell their attitude was different. be careful when adopting and make the dog you adopting fits with your family. cause you will not get your money back.
Ive worked with this rescue for close to 10 years. Transporting cross country, up and down the east coast, living there and working with the team. Any time there is a dog in need, she is there in a heartbeat and truly cares for the dogs. Keep up the good work! ❤
I highly recommend! I’ve been volunteering for a year and a half and LOVE it. ODHS goes above and beyond to give their dogs the best care, and find good homes. It is completely volunteer run, and a wonderful environment. They are the first place I would recommend going to to adopt from, foster for or volunteer for. I can’t praise them enough.
We are so glad we went to Old Dominion Humane Society to adopt our dog! The Staff was so kind and helped us find the perfect dog to add to our little family. They made sure that we had all the right resources to take home to ensure a smooth first night. Would absolutely recommend checking out ODHS if youre in the DMV area!
Very unprofessional. They made up a policy about if a appointment is cancelled, you can no longer adopt. They expect grace and understanding because they are volunteers but dont give any in return. They have 1 email contact with who knows how many people responding. No phone number contact anywhere and very rude when responding as well. Their ego was hurt when I pointed out that the dog I was interested in is sick and lethargic. Instead of taking it as feedback because I worry about the dog, they got upset and cancelled any further appointments. I like the mission, I like the dogs, but as a supervisor in customer service and support, the people need some training big time. Hopefully this goes as feedback. However, time will tell....
This non profit saves the lives of so many dogs. So many volunteers work together to take care of the dogs offering them.love while they wait for their forever home.
Old Dominion Humane Society is honestly the best!! The volunteers are so kind. So glad they helped me find my forever dog
I genuinely like this place but the adoption process is a bit confusing. To clarify you MUST fill out an application first or you will not be able to adopt and as of 12/16/20 this must be done first to even be let inside
I was not happy with my experience here. Walking in the shelter, not one person worked there had a mask on, not one person greeted us when we walked through the door or asked/offered assistance, not one person seemed to be concerned that we were there looking for a puppy! The ladies outside where the dogs were, were not welcoming and we did not feel welcomed at all! Going back to the inside of the building, it smelled like poo and the dogs inside looked either sick or too nervous.. overall, I WILL NOT be coming back and I STRONGLY SUGGEST these volunteers/staff members work hard on their customer service skills! I truly hope these dogs find good homes but I WILL NOT recommend this place to anyone!
I’ve adopted from Old Dominion in the past. They have been transparent with the info they provide for their dogs. If a volunteer couldn’t answer my question, they directed me to someone that could. I appreciate these volunteers who devote their time and open their hearts to helping dogs find their forever families.
Got my fur baby Coda from here. Wonderful experience from start to finish.
Amazing volunteers that work so hard to help these doggos!
Old Dominion helped me find my new best friend! I had to wait a few weeks before getting my puppy because of some biological issues (his balls took a while to drop). They communicated with me frequently and made the process very smooth. When I went to pick him up, his foster mom gave me a ton of information and was very caring. The people here truly care about the well-being of the animals they serve. I would definitely recommend!
Disappointed with the service i’ve received.Drove nearly 2 hours back and forth, when i arrived none of the workers were wearing a mask. While we’re in a middle of a pandemic there were no extra precautions taken. We were there for a meet & greet. One of the workers let us take the dog on a walk, the dog was absolutely frightened. We weren’t accompanied nor did we feel welcome to the place. One of the dogs in the cage got aggressive due to resource guarding and the way the workers responded to it was so unprofessional. I will NOT be coming here again, as well as recommending this place to any acquaintance of mine.
Our family has had nothing but great experiences with ODHS. We are volunteers, fosters, and adopters. Our Valentino is one of the best things that happened to us. He waited four months for us to find him. During that time he was well cared for by countless volunteers. He went hiking numerous times, was taken to Starbucks for pupachinos, played with in the green space, loved on, bathed, talked to every day, and had several overnight foster visits. I’ve seen first hand the care and devotion that goes to these dogs. Being a part of this rescue community has taught me more about dogs than I could have ever asked for.
I have been fostering for over a year with ODHS and have failed 2 times. I love the people and the dogs. All in all a great atmosphere. 💕
Website was user friendly
Great selection and friendly staff
Adopted our doggo from here a few weeks ago. Even though it was super busy (due to some new puppies being up for adoption), the staff took the time to speak with us about the dogs we wanted to see. We even got to sit down and have a one on one chat with our doggies foster mom, who was very patient and answered all our questions. And when we came back a few weeks later to drop off a donation, so many of the dogs wed seen last time had been adopted, making room for more dogs. Its obvious the volunteers work very hard!
Put in an application to adopt a dog, received confirmation from ODHS of approval with date and time to pick up the dog, we responded with confirmation email to verify we would he picking up and the dog at the designated time, received another email from ODHS of the specific type of collar to bring when we picked up the dog. Arrived at designated time to get dog, was told they closed at 4 (email sais we were to pick up dog between 4 and 5) young girl at counter said it would be up to Chrisy/Christy? If we could go ahead and pick up dog, then the story changed they dont have our emails, showed proof of emails then they said come Wednesday between 4 and 5 and pick up the dog, then the story changed again, the dog was already adopted. During this conversation a young girl stood in front of the dogs cage, the dog we were there to get, terrifying it by constantly spraying it with water. We drove 1.5 hours to pick up a dog, got a bunch of stories which kept changing as to why we couldnt get the dog. Left without the dog. Dont get your hopes up if you plan to adoot from them. Worst situation for potential adopters I have ever been in.
Wish I could adopt them all or pull a 12 monkies (but yall wouldnt Luke that) so yea sucks to keep making babies and not taking care of them...as is, place was a necessary evil I guess, clean and well kept, wonderful staff!
I was looking to adopt a dog from this group and then I got to the online application where they ask for way too much personally identifiable information. They should focus on getting the dogs into good loving homes and not on collecting so much information about anyone and everyone that will interact with the animal. Be careful of how much information you give out to these private groups.
This place is terrible. They literally give no training and force people to foster dogs. We went and it was dirty and the dogs needed care. We decided to go elsewhere because of the conditions and the overall experience. Would NOT recommend.
Great place to find your fur ever pup! They are extremely informative. And helpful through the whole process. I foster and volunteer and have personally seen the love and passion they have for saving these animals. It is incredible! Highly recommend ODHS to find your new family member. 🐶
My daughter adopted an 8wk old female puppy from this place for 375.00... A couple weeks later gets a call from Old Dominion stating she needed to bring the puppy in for a spay at 12 weeks old. They told her they spay and neuter puppies at 8 weeks of age at this facility and if she didnt comply, they would take her puppy away... So she complied and took her in to get spayed... It is unhealthy to spay and neuter dogs at such a young age. Their hormones are vital to their growth especially their bones. The proper age is 6 months to one year... The way these people speak to the adopter is absolutely absurd. Theyre very rude and very pushy. If you adopt a puppy from this place, u have no say so about waiting until your pup is at the proper age of spay and neuter. If u tell them u will get your puppy spayed at 6 months, they have no problem threatening to take your puppy away... Unbelievable
Staff is so friendly and very helpful and dogs are well taken care of. Application process is quick and easy. We’ve adopted from them 3 times.
The volunteers of this organization truly are amazing and one of a kind. They work around the clock to answer emails and review applications- even though they absolutely do not have to.The foster families that keep this rescue moving sacrifice so much to ensure each of these dogs are healthy and happy.
Good people who care about the dogs they shelter.
Ended up taking a 1 hour+ trip out here to see a puppy that I was already approved for that was advertised to be there on their website at that date. They told me that the puppy couldnt make it and instead to come back Saturday and he would be there for me. Took the 1 hour+ trip again on Saturday and when I arrived I asked where the puppy was AGAIN. Apparently, someone had already adopted the dog that they told me would be waiting for me on Saturday. Overall about 5 hours wasted and many miles on my car for nothing. They offered no solution to make things right. Normally, I would say pass on this business but for the animals sake check them out anyway... just dont believe anything they tell you.
We just adopted Billy and we are so happy with our experience through the adoption process. They answered ALL our questions and gave us all the information we needed. If we decide to get another dog along the road I won’t hesitate to come back!
Old Dominion Humane Society is a fantastic group to work with. Their leadership and volunteers are extremely caring and knowledgeable, and they do a great job of matching dogs to their perfect homes. This group not only saves dogs from disaster situations around the country, but also helps local shelters by pulling some of their difficult to adopt cases. The owner Chrissy is very professional and is able to work with troubled dogs and dogs with behavior problems to transform them into adoptable and loving pets. I cant say enough good things about this organization!!
First adoption and they made it an easy process. Great job!
I wish I would have found out about this place sooner. They are AMAZING volunteers and the building was super clean. I have adopted two dogs for here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a pup. Also all the dogs look well cared for and healthy.
During their adoption events they have dogs in the heat sitting in cages too small and in direct sunlight. You see the dogs panting. Then they feed the dogs in the cages outside directly next to each other with their cages touching. One dog was so scared of the aggressive dog in the cage next to him that he wouldnt eat and put his back to the food. Any time he would try to eat the dog next to him would bark and snap at him. All this was happening in front of a volunteer that was outside with them. No one did anything. Oh yeah, perfect way for them to care for dogs. Someone needs to shut this place DOWN!!!! They dont care about the dogs just the money. The owner walks around in too short of shorts with a little tank top on...this place is nasty, dirty and it stinks. Just trash. Kennel cough is running crazy through that place.
We adopted our dog Thunder from them this summer. They are so helpful. Very responsive, even though they are all volunteers. We couldn’t be more happy with how we were treated, how well we were informed, and there for any questions we might have. I love that they tell you they don’t guess breeds, even that ages are very loosely given. Because they rarely have a background on the animals. All of these people spend so much time to make sure the right dog and owner will be a good fit. We couldn’t be more happy with our sweet furbaby and will definitely adopt from them in the future and send as many people there as possible!
Loving rescue and healthy dogs. Very clean shelter and plenty of gated off outside play area. Staff and volunteers are very helpful and nice.
I got our little Arfie 🐕❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have experience working with other dog rescue groups and found this group to be extremely unprofessional. If you live in the area I would suggest seeking pets in one of the larger towns in the area where the process is run more smoothly. This group allowed me to drive two hours to see a dog that had been pre-approved to another adopter. I had been in almost nightly contacts with the dog!s foster mother. It was clear this was only dog I was interested in. It appears they are running more of a bait and switch program.I’d advise all potential new owners to look elsewhere!!!
I volunteer here great place great people and greaaattttt pups
They do a wonderful job for the community and their animals. Great organization
Staff was friendly, but young and many seemed to lack knowledge about specific dogs.
After submitting my application 10pm Friday night and being approved 8am Saturday morning, I was skeptical at how thorough the their verification process was ... Apparently its non-existent. No vet check. No reference check. Ok, whatever. I was told I was approved for a certain dog and that if I confirmed that I would be there on a certain date to pick him up, then they would hold that dog for me. I confirmed I would be there to pick up my new companion! I bought a crate, food, bowls, toys, a nice bed... the works. Drove 110 miles and 3.5 hour round trip to find out that they had adopted my dog to someone else. Why tell me that youre holding him for me if youre not!? Ridiculous. No apologies or explanation, they just offered for me to adopt another dog.Between the complete absence of any types of verifications, the high adoption fees, and the tell me what I want to hear to pacify me in the moment, I wont be adopting from this place. Nothing against the dogs there - its the people that I dont want to deal with.
This organization is an asset and godsend to dogs and puppies from all over the area. They take care of all the neutering and spaying before even allowing you to take a puppy. The people there are professional and are volunteering their time to make a difference for these animals. I appreciate everything they do and and anything said to the contrary is just incorrect and fake news. Take the time to visit them and you won’t be sorry. I have never had an issue with them. Thanks for all you do Old Dominion Humane Society.
My family had a great experience adopting from ODHS. We love that the dogs 🐕 are cared for like family pets in their foster homes, fed quality dog 🥘, have all required vaccinations & are spayed/neutered before they go 🏡 . They make adopting easy, the only thing I had to do was pick a dog-which was hard because they had so many adorable dogs 👨👩👧❤️🐶 We even get a tax deduction for adopting through a non profit, what an unexpected bonus!💵
Unable to contact - no phone # - discriminate against those who cant do things on line. Furthermore website very difficult to use/not user friendly at all. Its as if they dont want to find homes for the animals in their care.
They are friendly and clean Facilities. Loved the store onsite toys and accessories for your dog or cat a lot cheaper than the store! Donate food if you can. Meet my adopted fur baby Stevie.
Was very disappointed with this place. Went with my fiancé to adopt a dog to be apart of our family. The staff wasn’t great when it came to answering our questions. Kind of cold and distant almost. Felt as if they were discouraging us and attempting to persuade us not to proceed with getting the dog as we were filling out the application and to add icing to the cake were conversing about others who were there looking to rescue a dog. Making personal and rude comments about adopters that had left prior to us.at that point I didn’t feel comfortable enough to even want to finish the application.
Looking for young dog. I lost my friend for ever last May and feel now it is time now to look for amother companion.
Love Old Dominion Humane Society!! They blessed us with such a sweet loving dog 🥰 they were so helpful, all through the adoption process .... if you’re going to adopt a rescue puo, please consider Old Dominion!!!
I adopted a dog from this place and everything went very well during the time of adopting and of course pay .MY family named the dog Clarkson, they didnt even have a name for him. He is a great family dog and did very good with my other dog and son. I ended up surrendering this dog because he was beginning to show signs of jealousy with my toddler by knocking him down often and running into him which is not safe. When i went to surrender my dog not one person at this organization wasry trying. iohelp me. I am pregnant and had a toddler in my hand with the dog on the other. I had to ask for help and all the young lady did was hand me a paper to fill out. I had to ask them if they mind taking the dog so that i can fill out the form. I saw the lady that did my paperwork when i adopted him and she said nothing to me. They did not ask me why i wAs surrendering my dog, doesnt offer any tips to help me keep my dog, showed no care or empathy towArds me at all. Now i go on the site to see that this is what you guys put under his description:Meet ClarksonHi!! My name is Clarkson. I was born in April 2019 and I probably will end up being about 60-70lbs when full grown. Here’s a little bit of what I need from my forever home:1. Love and patience. I am a puppy and need to be taught right from wrong.2. Lots of play time to exercise my brain and body! My prior home had a toddler and a baby on the way, so my human didn’t exercise me. I’m in a foster home with a dog slightly older and we are already playing a ton!You guys told us he wont be for than 40lbs, he was and still is very loved by us but we know better as dog owners that he would be better off in a home with OLDER CHILDREN as i mentioned to the young lady. you dont even know if be was being exercised in his previous home because no one room the time to ask me any questions,. You people obviously dont care for the dogs or the families that they go to, the money must be all you care for. This is very disturbing thAt you people even foster dogs. Hope you are still giving him his medication that i gave you guys and actually taking good care of him.
Great experience, we decided not to adopt but they had a wonderful process.
They take great care of their animals at this shelter .
A wonderful adoption experience! Voluteer staff is extremely knowledgable bout their dogs and are efficient, considerate, and helpful. My daughter and I traveled from Richmond--she adopted a sweet chi.Lexi (formally Trixie) is a great match for both of us --Im Lexis daycare. The dogs are fostered by volunteers so much is known about each--very advantageous to potential adopters. We highly recommend Old Dominion Humane Society if you are looking to adopt.a dog!
Wonderful group of people helping to find wonder homes for wonderful pets
We foster with ODHS...Dont shop, Adopt!

We cannot day enough about Chrissy and ODHS. Running a rescue is the hardest thing a person can do. You see dogs that are abused, neglected, and sometimes just heart broken because the family that was once theirs has surrendered them for one reason or another. Chrissy and the volunteers at ODHS are the ones those dogs count on to care for them until their forever family is found. Chrissy has taken in dogs left at our stores and has always done as much as she can to get every animal that crosses her path the care and love they deserve. Thank you Chrissy and all the volunteers at ODHS for what you do day in and day out. Most of the crew at Dog Krazy has adopted one if not several dogs from ODHS. One of the owners, Sushi the Beagle, was once in their care. And now Sushi lives the life every rescue dog should live. One where every day is sniffing butts, eating treats, and knowing her family is her forever family. Sushi’s life is perfect because of people like Chrissy.
We have adopted 3 dogs from ODHS. We have fostered many dogs as well and we spend each week at ODHS volunteering. Great organization to help you find a great furry friend.
Adopted a dog from here. Extremely helpful during the process and made sure they were pairing me with the right dog. If youre looking for a new dog Id definitley go check them out during their adoption events on Saturdays.
