John & Johnnie are awesome!! My husbands Ecosport needed rear brakes pretty badly and they got us in right away and they stepped right up! We dropped it off at the end of one day and had it ready the next afternoon and they even threw in installing a headlight bulb that my husband had laying in the front seat. I’m not here to slam this business, but rather to report on 2 separate family instances of gross overcharging. One on my father’s radiator repair and one on an estimate for my vehicle. My engine temp light went on and because they were nearby and I was panicked, I went there. The diagnostic, regardless if you accept their estimate for repair is $125.00. This wasn’t made clear as many don’t charge that fee, but in fairness, I didn’t ask. The issue with my vehicle was the thermostat. Because I didn’t know better, I called a family member because the estimate seemed super high. I also checked across Google and local area mechanics. They were double the price. I quickly picked up my car, paid the $125.00 diagnostic and took the vehicle nearby for a total charge of $412.00 with tax. They also did a free diagnostic just in case. My family member only realized after my experience that they were charged over double for the repair. I don’t care what they tried to mansplain at me...this is predatory and there simply no excuse. Buyer beware.

Great! I was scheduled for a free brake inspection. They were honest and informed me that the squeaking I had begun hearing while braking was not coming from bad pads or rotors. He gave me an explanation and saved me money. He also squeezed me in for an oil change that I did not have an appointment for.

We had a bad experience with our insurance affiliated shop after my wifes car was involved in an accident. The shop reinstalled a damaged tire and the car pulled hard to the right. We then took the car to a Toyota dealership who replaced the tire but couldnt align the car. After two shops being unable to fix our car, the insurance company allowed us to bring the car to a shop of our choice. After reading several reviews on Johns shop I knew this was where I wanted to bring the car. That was confirmed when I pulled up and noticed they were working on a classic late 60s Chevelle. If someone trusted that car to this shop, I could trust my family sedan. Inside I met a couple who had bringing their cars to John over the past 20 years. John was personable and honest, exactly what I expect out of a family owned shop. Within a couple days we had our car back and running just as it was prior to the accident. Johns team diagnosed and replaced a lower control arm and ball joint then aligned the car to spec. Even through the frustration of having our car with multiple shops who couldnt diagnose and fix our car, were happy we found a trustworthy mechanic who well continue to use in the future.

They correctly repaired and fixed the damage caused by another shops shoddy, improperly installed repair. It was quick and fairly priced. It seems very hard to find honest trustworthy people in any job these days, but I feel I have found one of the rare few here.

Best mechanic around. I’ve been going to Johns Auto for years. Since moving from Homewood I make the trip out to Frankfort because the service is so consistently great. Fair prices and quality. When i had my 2006 Jeep Wrangler I would take it in for “noises” every so often. John would assure me that it was just the nature of Wranglers. My point here is that they don’t do ANY unnecessary work. I recommend them to everyone I know needing a quality mechanic!

Technically something minor went wrong with John’s repair, and I’m still sitting down to write a glowing five-star review, which should tell you most of what you need to know. Also, I hardly ever write reviews. These guys really take care of people and stand behind their work. For the whole story, read on!I live in the Chicago area but found a used car that I wanted down in Frankfort, IL where John’s is located. I first called him for a pre-purchase inspection (needed a place near the selling dealer and saw other good reviews of John’s). For a thorough inspection (& talking me through the results by phone since I couldn’t get down there during the work week) he charged me an extremely-reasonable $45. After buying the car, I took it to John to complete most of the repairs he had recommended, which included a flush, test, and refill of the cooling system (antifreeze). A few weeks later back in Chicago, I noticed a slow antifreeze leak. Not wanting to drive all the way back to John’s, I called him and he said his repairs are warrantied and I could take to any Napa Auto Care location. So, I picked one in Chicago, confirmed they’d do Napa warranty work, and took the car to them. It turned out that one of the hose clamps John had put back on the radiator had come loose again (which can happen, especially in a car as old as this one), but when the garage here in Chicago called me, they informed me that they had already done the work but that “Napa said it wasn’t a warranty issue because it wasn’t a faulty part.” So, they said I would have to pay them for the work and then go get my money back from John. Not thinking that was right, I called John and he agreed they shouldn’t be charging me. He then called the other garage directly on my behalf, and when they refused to not charge me, JOHN PAID THE OTHER GARAGE FOR THE WORK. If that’s not standing behind your work and taking care of your customers, I don’t know what is. I highly recommend these guys and even though I live an hour away, I’ll strongly consider making the drive if I ever need a serious repair.

Johns shop is the cleanest and most well kept I have ever seen. This factor goes hand in hand with the level of his service he and his staff provides. Brought my Audi in to repair several issues. This was done honestly and in a timely fashion with daily updates from John. Prices are reasonable and I couldnt have asked for better service/communication. I will be bringing my car in for any future items that may arise.
