I told a staff member that I wanted a month by month membership. I was told the cost was 49 dollars for the initial enrollment and then there would be a monthly fee of 25 per month. I asked if the 49 dollar enrollment fee could be waived for a new member and I was told she would talk to a manager to see if she could give me a better deal. I was told the fee was waived. When I tried to cancel the membership I was told that when they waived the fee they changed my membership to a 12 month membership. I said I did not approve this change. They showed me the paperwork but the thing is my initials are in a box that could be signed for either option. I honestly believe they may have changed it after I signed it, but I did not ask for paperwork when I signed up so I cant prove it. I had to pay 127 dollars to get out of the contract and I only went to the place twice. I paid the money to get out of the contract because I dont like dealing with a deceptive company. I have told some of my friends and family about my experience and they have promised to spread the word about this place. They know I very rarely have a negative word to say about anyone. Please always save your contracts and I would advise you not to trust them.
9-11am. The perfect time to get your work done.
Unbelievable. My wife and I had a membership. My family had been going here for years. I had gotten terribly ill from toxic exposure. I had a horrible reaction and was fighting for my life. I kept my membership for a few months but it was clear I was getting worse, not better. I was stuck in bed. My wife went in to cancel our memberships. The guy at the counter didnt know how to cancel MY membership without me there. He told her to have me sign a paper. We followed his instructions. He said we were done and he would handle the rest. About two years later we get a notice from a collection agency for near $300, on top of another near $300 that they pulled from my account during the time I was stuck in bed. They had been charging us the whole time after telling us our cancellation was complete!I am doing much better now. Thank God. I went in and I confronted them about it and told them what happened, expecting they would be reasonable. Not at all. Im told they cant do anything about it and they still expect me to pay the bill. They say they will look into it and contact me back. I dont hear from them. I have stopped in multiple times. Crooked show. I am preparing a court case now. What a lousy way to treat your customers.
Okay selection of equipment, not enough to support the busy crowd. I did like the nice, open multipurpose room. Guest access is $5 for students or military members. Be aware they will hold your form of identification until you leave. Also be aware its going to be poorly secured during that time.
Can be moderately over crowded at times, staff is usually fairly friendly as well. Seems like the people going for the classes love it here. To me it is a little steep for what you get but for the convenience of where this is located it is our go to gym.
Terrible customer service. I went in back in June or July of 2017 to change my method of payment. At that time, I also signed my cancellation and wanted it to be implemented upon completion of my contract. So I wasnt trying to get out of a contract early or anything. I was starting up my Masters program and could use the schools gym, so I just didnt need the membership anymore after my contract finished. It is now May and I noticed that I was charged again by them. My wife normally handles the balancing of the checking accounts, I just happened to check this one time and noticed this charge. I went into the Maplecrest location and the lady working the front desk was extremely polite, but stated that since I was unable to present a receipt she was unable to help and referred me to the billing manager. The billing manager gave me a call about an hour or so later and started the conversation off with What do you want? Extremely cold and unprofessional. I explained my situation, and how I had recently moved and recently had a baby, which consisted of a lot of remodeling around the house, so I was unable to locate the receipt. I further suggested that they can see that I have faithfully paid my fees to the completion of my contract and have not once signed in to use the gym since that summer when I started school back up. It is easy to deduce from these findings that it is very possible that the error is on their end, especially considering how many people seem to have issues with cancelling their memberships and being charged after the fact. I also stated that from a business standpoint I understand asking for a receipt, but from a customer service standpoint you would think they would understand the extenuating circumstances, want my business and my friends business in the future, and thus be a little more understanding with making the situation right. The billing manager disagreed and stated that I would have to come back in to sign and cancel or send a letter in the mail (which really frustrated me...why didnt they have me do this when I was in there earlier?). I asked for the number for her boss, which she replied was corporate and they dont give that number out so Id have to contact them via the website. She was extremely cold, insensitive and provided terrible customer service. I have since reached out to corporate office via the website contact us link. I truly am hopeful that this situation gets resolved. If they want my future business after graduation, they need to make this right. If it does get resolved, I will come back and edit this post to reflect the good quality customer service that corporate provides. Until that time, however, Max Fitness will never have my business, or the business of my friends if I have any say about it, again. As of right now, all I have witnessed is extremely unethical business practices in order to make a quick buck.
Absolutely terrible. The billing manager is awful. I went to cancel my membership 4 months ago and it never got canceled. Now I have to pay them more money because of their mistake. When I called to talk to the manager she accused me of being a liar. Then later after arguing hangs up on me. Instead of us coming to an agreement she decides to give the worst customer service Ive ever had. Later after the phone call she emails me my old agreement? Im really confused at why? I will never recommend this place. Very very rude and inconsiderate and obviously dont know how to treat their members. My entire family is also withdrawing their memberships and I am telling everyone who reads this review. Just because they tell you its canceled doesnt mean it is. Be very very careful when you commit to this place. Also your rates continue to go up. Mine originally was $10 then $15 then $25 to better serve their members
Always clean. Have a great variety of equipment. Offer classes at no extra cost.
Hand sanitizer everywhere. Perfect!!!
Be prepared to deal with poor customer service, policies they do not inform you about and crowded space. If you are not there to notice posters posted about policy changes you will never know. Also they do charge a cleaning and equipment repair fee once a year not specified during initial sign up. Owner is crooked and will side with employees over a paying customer. Guest only get a free one time pass. Save your money or try else where
I was relocated to GA with the Army back in September of 2018, my wife moved with me in November. I have sent 2 letters (including orders and the law that applies to them canceling my wife’s account) and still they have yet to cancel her membership. I have called multiple times and get “the manager is not here” “the manager is at lunch I’ll take a message” and other numerous excuses. I called their finance company ABC Financial and they tell us we have to go through the club. So, here we are going on 9 months of still being charged. Maybe this will get someone’s attention and finally take care of this.Per the civil council here at Fort Stewart, we asked for any and all correspondence to be sent via letter so we can have a copy and for any legal proceedings to recoup the 9 months of payments annndddd guess what, no reply. This place is ridiculous.
Nice facility. Gets crowded at peak times. Some of treadmills are out of service. Competitive dues with lots of amenities.
Went to this location a few times. Today when I was there using a machine close to the front desk it was pretty obvious that a few of the female employees were gossiping, looking at me and laughing.... need better employees.
They are nice enough until you try to cancel your membership. I went in on the 18th of April to cancel my membership. I was told by the guy at the counter that it takes a little while to process the cancellation and that I would most likely be charged for that month, I was. Then this month (May) I am charged my monthly fee again and they also charged my annual fee. I called to ask about it and was told that they didnt have any record of my cancellation request and there is nothing they can do. I was told that I had to come in again to reprocess my cacelation. They said They would not refund the charges. I asked what would happen if I disputed the charge with my bank and was told that they would send me to collection. So because someone on there end didnt process my cancellation request correctly they want to hold my money. Beware of this shady business practice before you become a memeber. I will never do business with the chain of gyms again. And I recommend that you find another one to join also.
Great gym with great equipment and an environment that motivates you to improve yourself
I just really like the lay out of the gym, and the classes they offer .
Inadequate explanations of plans..deceptive signing. Overcharging...ppputting people in plans they did not want with no apology or refund.only way to get out of yr plan was to pay over 100 to cancel
Friendly staff as well as clean equipment! Love going here!
This place was always packed to the brim anytime I went. The best times to go to beat the crowd are fairly inconvenient.
I feel at home in this gym, friendly staff and a great verity of excellent equipment!
My credit card that I was using to pay for my membership was compromised a little over a year ago and I was forced to get a new one. I had not been going to MaxFitness for a while and didn’t bother to update my payment info since I wasn’t going any longer. I was under the impression that my membership would get cancelled once they couldn’t process the payment like most other subscription/membership situations out there. Recently, I found out that wasn’t the case. I learned from a collection agency that MaxFitness has been building up my account with charges for a little over a year before it was turned over to them. Not once did MaxFitness call me to inform me that my account was delinquent or even active with issues. To me that isn’t a very ethical approach to doing business. Now I am being forced to pay a large sum of money because they wouldn’t take the time to call me when it first became an issue.I would caution anyone about getting involved with MaxFitness. The contracts they use are set up to take every advantage of a slip-up on your part and do great financial harm. Please look elsewhere and be sure whatever place you decide to go with does not have a contract that preys on the customer.
It is a large gym which is nice, but it serves so many people it is always crowded. I try to go in the mornings but constantly run into classes that utilizes the entire turf room. Meanwhile they have two other training rooms for classes that remain empty while Im crowded into the freeweight section to do lunges/etc. It also has taken them 5 full weeks to fix the cable fly machine. If there was anywhere else I would probably choose it. Im tired of having to wait for equipment and kicked out of the turf room they boast about. It isnt all bad, just many, many annoyances that leave me in a bad mood instead of pumped after I go to the gym. Kind of like the Wal-Mart of fitness.
Excellent facility. The only thing it is missing is a rock climbing wall
Its a good place the only thing is u have to pay to bring ur guess
They are limit time to get in, not a good deal to be a member there. Plannet fitness have a better deal for any package, go check it out.
They scam you with a monthly fee, then fees throughout the year as well.Even though my contract expired, when my Wells Fargo card got canceled they blew my phone up with texts and calls daily and sent me mail claiming I owed them monthly fees and late fees.
Its not too bad of a gym. The equipment feels old and junky. The leg press creaks every time im on it. The seated weight leg press seems dangerous, the safety lock wont even stay off when im using it. Be careful when using some of the equipment. It needs an upgrade. The dupont location is better.
Very friendly staff. Lots of room. Never too packed.
My experience has been nothing short of amazing at Max on Maplecrest! Where do I begin? From the amazing classes, to the motivation and support I get from the staff Max is out of this world! They have a HUGE turf room that is so big, even when we have class it doesnt take up half the turf. They have a room filled with bikes for their popular spin class and a smaller training room where they offer pilates, core, zumba, and other combat like classes, so many choices and times. The trainers who teach the classes are into it, I really feel like they want to see me succeed, I dont feel like I am just their job. Stac and Mary are EXCELLENT trainers, always encouraging and challenging. Even peeps who arent trainers MOTIVATE me and ENCOURAGE me like Lindsey and Kenna! The front desk guy Chris actually RAN MY FIRST MILE WITH ME TODAY! I mean he had shin splints and STILL ran beside me encouraging me!!!!!! I have been to the Y and I have been to Anytime and I have been to Planet (shhhh I always whisper when I say that, dont want to set off an alarm :-) )and never in my gym life, over my 70lb weight loss STRUGGLE has anyone ever been as kind as the entire staff at Max Fitness. Even the other gym goers are fantastic. To me it feels a lot like a little gym family. BUT my favs trainer is Arnela. . .thats my girl! I cannot even tell you in words how amazing she is. She has a Tues class that will make you feel like a champion! When she says she is proud of you, you know you have earned it! All the trainers who teach the classes do personal training as well, sometimes its nice to have that one on one. I wish I could post a pic on here of what Max has helped me accomplish. . . .
Warning To American Health Fitness Transfers: I am a new member. I came to Max Fitness after AHF closed down. The facilities in Fort Wayne are beautiful and I have been really excited to be a member there. However, the last few days Ive experienced something very frustrating and I wanted to bring it to the attention of those considering a membership there.Wednesday of last week I noticed I had been charged $19.95. I had already paid my last months $19.95 when I signed up and was charged my monthly fee on July 20th, so you can imagine my surprise when for a third time in the month I was charged $19.95. Im on a budget and was down to my last $20. So when my card was charged it left me with $0.26 until payday. This is where the situation becomes a customer service concern.I made several calls, spoke with several different reps and everyone led me on a wild goose chase. Finally after 2 days of chasing my tail, I was told that the Maplecrest location was to blame and would be issuing me a refund. They said it could take 3-5 business days. There was never a sincere apology or an offer to help make it right. They just took my money for a week and wanted me to be like ok no big deal.So Monday I went to the Dupont location and spoke with Scott, the manager. I told him this whole story and he was appalled. He apologized genuinely, which I must say was the first time I felt like my issue was being recognized. He called the Maplecrest location to confirm that my refund had been processed. The lady from Maplecrest called me back while I was still in his office and said that yes it had been processed but that it may take 5-7 business days. That’s now 2 days longer than what I was told the week before. So now I may not see my $20 until next Monday. I have been told that the manager from the Maplecrest location is also 40% owner of the Fort Wayne locations and that he wants the Maplecrest location revenue to be higher and that may be why I was overcharged. That perhaps Scott from Maplecrest doesn’t like that the American Health Fitness transfers last month’s fees were processed at the Dupont location so he just went ahead and charged us from the Maplecrest location too to inflate his revenue. As I’m writing this it’s already been 6 business days since they processed the refund and I haven’t seen the money come through to my account yet. Keep in mind it took them 2 days to get it together to even make the refund. So theyve had my money for 8 business days. 10 days including the weekend.Im frustrated that I had to call and talk through this with so many different people and that only once was I called like I was told I would be. I appreciate that Im getting my $20 back but that means that I have had no money for gas or food for 2 days. Thats unacceptable to me. People dont just go around handing $20 to people and letting them hold on to it for a week and thats effectively what Max Fitness has done to me. So my question is why is it that Im expected to just accept the refund as if that makes the situation right when for 2 days I had no money for food and couldnt get gas for my car?. This kind of inconvenience shouldnt just be shrugged off by their customer service reps.UPDATE: The refund finally came through - 2 weeks after it had been taken out.
You better hope that you never have any kind of billing issues whatsoever because itll be an absolute nightmare working with them. Customer service isnt and has never been their strong suit.
Friendly staff and good place to workout
Great atmosphere spacious, clean and a helpful crew
Great facilities and staff
Great place and 24/7
Worst club to deal with ever. Impossible to cancel membership and continue charging you after you cancel and then charge annual dues after you cancel too. Go to planet fitness.
I liked this location
Great options. Little crowded.
Clean and provides all the gear youd need even on a busy day.
Great gym!
Be careful with billing I have cancelled the membership but still they are taking money from card in name of dues after cancellation . They have hidden charges in membership agreement and charge like due after cancellation. They will not mention those charges to you when you are signing .If you question them for charges they will speak to you like our paper work is ready to see you in court. These place will directly cheat you using the loop holes in law.DONT TRUST THIS PLACE.
Kicks my butt everytime!
Awesome place to workout

Its okay but not as i expected
I am glad I returned.
