I highly recommend staying anywhere else. Not worth it at any price.
For me, I had a good time at Mary’s. I met many good people, and since I followed the rules in her ‘love letter’ I had no problems. She also let me hang my hammock by her pool. For thanksgiving dinner she also bought us two hams three heads of broccoli and bundles of potatoes. No regrets from this tenant. 😬
Marry asks that you respect the house and clean up after yourself. This shouldn’t be too demanding to ask of functioning adults but clearly is from the reviews.Price is fair but a little high.Super comfortable linens!Clean restrooms and homey feel.
I am now staying at Marys crew house for a second time. It is perfect for many reasons, great location walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars and everything you need. Mary goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. I would recommend anyone to stay here.
Marys crew house is a step above the rest. Clean, spacious, affordable and most of all perfectly located close to all yachtie hot spots. Mary goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that your stay is more than pleasant. Ive stayed in most crew houses and Marys is without a doubt exceptional! I highly recommend it.
Perfect place to get set up in fort Lauderdale if your starting out in yachting. Close to agencies and supermarkets in a safe neighborhood as well. Mary got me some work and went the extra mile to make sure everything was good in our house. There was no bugs and cleaning lady made the house shinny. She may have some faults but who does not.
Do not stay here!! The only good part of this place is the people you meet. She is a complete crook and will find whatever reason possible to deduct random amounts from your security deposit, mine was that I didnt clean the dishes properly and left them on the counter when I hadnt even stayed there the night before so she kept part of my deposit. She will also come in screaming at you to wake up and personally insult you, call you a child. There are so many other good ones in that area please check them out before putting yourself in a situation with this house. We are all professional in this industry and it is upsetting we have to deal with people like the sometimes
I had a great experience at Marys crew house. Mary was warm and welcoming. I think when people review about the cleanliness standards, it reflects the kind of house and people shes looking for- clean, professional and orderly. The apartment was way nicer than another crew house I stayed in. It was quiet with a great space to hang outside. Fast WiFi. As far as the non-stop party reviews go, I hadnt seen that during my stay aside from roommates hanging outside together having a couple beers. Which, given the age group of yachties in general, isnt shocking, nor were they disrespectful, loud and obnoxious. I highly recommend this crew house.
I got a lengthy detailed email when I inquired about a possible stay at this location.Mary has been in business for numerous years and has a lot of knowledge about it. Especially good for someone like me, who was clueless and new to the industry. She definitely has a lot of contacts so you wont have a problem finding day jobs through her that will keep you going. It is very centralized so you could walk everywhere. The grocery store, banks, restaurants, bars, agencies.Only the docks are abit far, but its just a 10min bus ride away.Definitely recommend it if youre serious about finding work.
Ive stayed with Mary at multiple locations over the years and have always found her properties to be orderly and well maintained. In the past, housing was segregated by intent or professional level (or so it seamed). I intend to return for the 5th time this fall for more prep courses. The anonymous google user below was likely booted for inappropriate behavior... Mary discourages flop house antics.
I have stayed at Marys Crew House several times over the past year and I have only good things to say. Besides making new friends, a clean house, good wifi, printer with paper and ink for my CV, a clean pool, BBQ with full propane, a TV in every room, good AC, 3 fridges, clean bathrooms and fans in every room she also got me my first job last January from her Captain friend. I will never stay at any other crew house.People who say she has bed bugs were people who were asked to leave for acting like children. Mary has always been fair. Thanks Mary!!!
My stay at Mary’s started off with her sleeping on our couch for two weeks, turning our living room and kitchen into her own place, while we all continued having to pay full rent. She is an extremely unprofessional woman who takes great pleasure in giving others a hard time. Everyday she would find a reason to psychotically yell at someone, purposefully trying to embarrass them in front of others. She will barge into your room at all hours of the day or night screaming about one thing or another, slamming doors and waking the whole house up. Even if you are not one of the people she continuously goes after the constant harassment affects everyone. Not only is dealing with this unstable woman on a daily basis bad enough but the house is old, dirty and not well looked after. She will do anything to save a few bucks and it more than shows with the state of the house. My first night there I noticed some brown and black shavings on my bed and after further inspection realized there were several holes in the ceiling caused by termites. After bringing this to Mary’s attention she simply had me switch beds and said she would clean in the morning. All day it sat until that evening when another girl came to move in. Mary then went into the room brushed the shavings off of the top bunk causing them to fall down onto the face of another woman sleeping on the bottom bunk waking her up. She then didn’t change the comforter or sheets of this bed and was going to have the new tennant sleep there until I told her what had just happened. Although I didn’t personally experience it I’ve also heard horror stories of bed bugs which is not hard to believe. Besides harassing others Mary’s favorite thing in life is money. She tries to scam everyone out of their deposit when leaving even taking $20 off of one woman’s because she left a dirty plate in the sink. Upon my departure she announced that the rate had gone up from $40 a night to $50 a night when leaving mid week despite her never announcing this change from the contract we all sign upon arriving. Her normal rate is $210 a week but I paid $200 my last week staying only 4 days. There is no arguing with her twisted mind. I urge anyone thinking of staying here to look elsewhere. Save yourself the trouble and money and STAY AWAY.
Horrible experience a 9 years ago. After reading the other reviews. I guess nothing has changed. There are better crew accommodations elsewhere.
I had the most positive experience with Mary. I called her for accomodation as I have stayed with her in the past and liked it. Well, I told her I land late in the night, and she offered to come and get me at the airport!!!:> I really think she have a personal touch, and run her business very well. Thanks Mary!!
Marys is an amazing place, I enjoyed My stay here very much, Mary was so helpful by getting me daywork and she also helped us to settle in to American culture.I love the fact that marys has Rules set in place, It make the stay here pleasant since there is no late night parties allowed and women and men have different housing areas to stay in. I also enjoy the fact that its in the middle of everything, and grocery stores, the beach and agencies are not far at all. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly.
Marys Crew House is a great crew house for crew. It is quiet and is close to everything. This is not a crew house for party types. She is resourceful in the sense, captains and senior crew call her often for crew and dayworkers.
In my opinion she is a thief has no right to run a businessdoes not clarify terms and conditions and is overpriced compared to other crew houses. STAY AWAY!!
Great Lady .I was in a jam and she accommodated me ..thank you Mary.
DO NOT STAY HERE if you like your privacy. Mary pops up randomly at ALL hours and has no problem waking you up. I woke up this morning to her yelling at me about dishes in the sink. As a stewardess, it is interesting and important to see how owners treat their help. She barks out orders to her maid and is very unkind to her. I stood up for the maid when she yelled at her for helping me do the dishes, and later the maid thanked me for it. Mary is literally insane.
BED BUGS! STAY AWAY- That crazy lady will haunt you every day! She will cheat you out of money and eat your food! roaches, mosquitoes and fleas! She will yell you at every day. Make you clean up and turns off every light in the house. Please. For the love of GOD, STAY AWAY!
Stayed two months and I couldnt say enough nice things about my apartment or Mary. Terrific location and accommodation was wonderful. Highly recommend!!
--------------We stayed at the SE 18th Ct. location.------------------------Pros- Nice computer with printer in main room for community use, somewhat well equipped kitchen, 3(!?) fridges, ironing board & iron, on site coin op laundry, and a grill outside ----------------------Cons- Printer was out of black ink and there was very little paper to use. Bathrooms are dirty, no central air and small a/c units are loud and smell musty. Mary seems nice, but runs her company in a disorganized manner. We were promised to stay in one location, but our move in time was pushed back almost 8 hours because she let someone else stay there the night before and did not have our rooms cleaned in time. Also, there was no toilet paper at our place! We had to buy our own and the company did not reimburse us; that is almost unbelievable. Additionally, Mary tried to raise the rate on us at the last minute. She is extremely disorganized, deals only verbally with individuals and then forgets what she says. ---------------------------Overall: The place is pretty nice, but the bathrooms need a serious cleaning. Mary is also nice, but is so disorganized she cant effectively run her business.
This place is a joke, that old witch is rude and disrespectful always, everyone who stays here is constantly concerned about when she will just show up and give us a hard time for no reason, she WILL find one. Stay away from this place if you value your personal space and your freedom. To pay 200 a week to be told what to do like you are in a halfway house??? nasty old woman.
I stayed at Marys for about 5 weeks. I made some great friends during my stay, and the crew house is in a nice location. As you can see from reading most other reviews on google, Mary herself is the biggest problem. For starters, at $210 a week (up from $180 I payed the previous time I stayed there), you expect a little bit of privacy. The last time I stayed here for 2 weeks, Mary lived off site in her own apartment, we maybe saw her once a day. SHE LIVES THERE NOW. She was living in the girls side of the house on their couch for 2-3 weeks, still charging them full rent, and was very unhappy if they decided to come over to the boys side to relax in the larger Mary-free living room. She does barge into the house at all hours of the day and night, never in a good mood, and does not have problems waking you up sometimes for no reason. One girl got kicked out, and did not get her $220 security deposit back because she came back to the house too late on a weekend, later we found out Mary had emailed 16+ other crew accommodations warning them that this girl was trouble and that she does not tell the truth and Do not take her in. Another had their emergency contact called by Mary because she had a few (keyword FEW) alcoholic beverages the night before and Mary saw her a little tipsy. This is not a party house, and nobody treated it that way. We were all very respectful of Mary and her rules, but she was still always very nasty towards us. She does not want you to find a job aboard a yacht. If you leave, so does her money. She knows that this house is becoming a last resort for anybody needing crew accommodations, and is definitely a last resort for any boats in need of daywork. Upon telling Mary that I had found a job and needed to leave, she raised the price per day cost from $40 a night (like it says in print on her rule sheet) to $50 a night just because she said so. This let her keep the whole weeks rent I had payed for even though I was less than half way through it. She is money hungry, she will try to find ways to rip you off. Any crew accommodation in Fort Lauderdale is better than Marys Crew House. You have been warned.
Had a wonderful time, met lovely people. The house was clean and in good shape, plus very convenient for 17th Street. Not a place for loud parties, but for those looking to work or study.Had another good stay, this time at the 12th st house with the pool. Mary fixed me (and another girl) up with full time stewardess jobs as well as daywork while we were waiting. The other folk at the house were great company and the location is in a lovely neighborhood for walking around or jogging. Also, its a pleasant walk to the supermarket, no highway to deal with. Ill be back.
This is the worst place ever how can anyone subject them self to this RACIST..
I stayed there for several weeks. With God as my witness, I know Mary, purposefully and with every intention of being a slimey cheat and calculating thief, didnt return my full deposit. The unit was decent (4.5 stars).Mary (0 stars)...
WARNING! DO NOT STAY HERE!Probably the most, horrible, filthy and expensive crew house I have stayed at.Mary is a nasty person who storms through the house trying to con an extra buck out of her honest guests where she can.I was packed into a room with 5 people, paying $210 +$230 for bond which a lot of people dont get back for no reason.Keep this short, read other reviews, find another crew house and good luck.
Great place to stay because close to everything and captains call her or come to the houses looking for day workers and full time positions. Mary always comes around the houses to make sure that everyone at the houses have everything they need and that they are safe.
Look at the reviews carefully. If you look you can obviously see that those who post either give Marys 4 to 5 stars or try to tear her down. How childish of those who dont want to follow the rules and act like adults. There are no negatives about Marys Crew House, the only negative reviews come from those that were asked to leave.Marys Crew House is a place for professionals. It is SPOTLESS AND CLEAN, has computers and internet in each room with printer and fax. The negative reviews posted here come from non-proffesionals, children who think they are entitled to do whatever they want and then try to demean a wonderful host, Mary herself. This is not a party crew house. It is not a Hostel and it is not a place that tolerates late night parties. Mary will enforce the rules about late night antics and she will throw out those that do not abide by the rules. If you are a yachting professional, are going to school and need peace and quiet to study, then this IS the place for you!!!! If you are a drunk moron with little to no respect for others then move on and look elsewhere for accommodations. If you want to party and be loud like some crew houses allow, then go there, not here.AND AS A CAPTAIN OF 30 years, I look at Marys guests first when hiring day workers. There are other crew houses I and other Captains pass on simply because I am ALWAYS able to find professionals at Marys and dont have to worry about whether or not they will be hungover or below par. This is the ABSOLUTE BEST CREW HOUSE IN FORT LAUDERDALE!!!!!! BAR NONE!!!!!
Marys Crew House should be at the top of your list when choosing crew accommodations in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Anyone looking for a well respected and highly professional crew quarter must consider Marys Crew House. Mary has many years experience hosting and caring for the needs of those in the yachting industry. She accommodates flexible schedules and provides a safe and secure environment for all your belongings. Marys offers several very clean and well maintained accommodations right in the heart of yachti nation. Its ideal location makes travel easy, you can bike or hoof it to many of the crew agencies and local yachti Hot Spots. It is also close to MPT. She is a go to gal for captains and boat owners alike.Mary is more than happy to assist her clients in finding both day work and full time positions within the industry.
Marys crew house is a very special place. I stayed there for 6 weeks. I met nothing but great people there. Except for Mary herself.Mary is a mean old lady full of hatred for the world. Her place is a mess. The Internet is always having problems. The roof over by the pool leaks like hell and is just rotting away; so much in fact that when the fire department came by to inspect it they declared it unsafe. The rats who run around in the back are almost kind of cute compared to Mary. People I have recently worked with have also mentioned that bed bugs were there during their stay. One of Marys favorite pastimes is screaming at people in a way that only psychotic people seem to be able to do. She has a tendency of barging into the rooms after midnight and waking people up to ask whos in here!?She also thinks up every and any possible excuse to cheat people out of giving them their deposits back. I have seen this happen with my own eyes on more than one occasion. She also has no problem with taking 9 volt batteries out of fire alarms so that she doesnt have to fix the fans over the stoves which also dont work. As far as I know that is illegal. I have also overheard her on the phone with captains who call looking for day workers or other employees and she seems to take joy in telling them that the people at her crew house dont deserve the work because they behave incorrectly in her own crooked eyes. All in all I would advise everyone staying there to move out and anyone whos considering going to stay there to find another place to stay. There are more than enough crewhouses in Fort Lauderdale. This old lady running this one is sick. Even when she does return your deposit like she did for me you almost dont want to take the money out of her hand after you just watched her dig deep into her FUPA gunt to fetch it. I would rather stay anywhere else in the whole wide world. And even now after working for 3 weeks in Miami and going back to Fort Lauderdale to stay at the Neptune group crew houses which are cheaper than Marys, she has the nerve to have apparently lied to the man in the Neptune office and tell him that I was kicked out by her which is absolutely not true. What a crazy poor old lady. My advice: avoid her like the plague.
Never go there the cleaning lady f up my UE boom speaker and Mary didnt do anything!!!The only thing Mary Sees and wants is money!!!!!! She is obsessed whit it. She is in you house 24/7 turning off the lights well youre sitting there and when you say something she Shas you dont need them!If you want a nightmare go to Marys if not go fare away from it!! 😂😂
Mary is rude and has no skills in customer relations. I highly recommend not to stay at Marys house.
Mary will steal your money. Stay away
RUN!
