Ive been here multiple times with multiple different barbers and ordinarily Id have nothing but great things to say about it, but Im not so sure now after my last visit with Dani D.I requested he clean up the sides of my beard and a little off the bottom to clean it up, but also that he leave length at the bottom. Instead, he took about two inches off of the bottom and made the entire thing even; not what Id asked for.Id say pretty much anyone here is good, but be careful with Dani.EDIT:After speaking to Matt from Union Barber on the phone, he explained what had happened and offered to correct what had happened. That said, I appreciate his reaching out and offer to fix this; as such, I have to raise my rating to 5 because I appreciate that they appreciate me.

Dani hooked me up! Im well into losing my hair so Im pretty specific how i like it too be cut so it looks good. Dani did it exactly how i like. He was very nice and not too talkative. I could tell he was very focused and spent a decent amount of time just making sure everything looked perfect. All that on top of a straight razor neck shave. This guy is awesome. Ill be back

Sharon did a great job executing my vision for a pretty drastic change in my hairstyle, and was also very respectful of my request to avoid discussing my personal life, both of which were greatly appreciated. Ive been here multiple times now and have always had a great experience. Every barber Ive had was very knowledgeable and knew the questions to ask in order to give me the haircut I wanted. The cleanliness and attention to detail at this location is really great and offers a comfortable, safe environment for everyone involved. All of these attributes being mostly expected from a quality barber, my favorite part remains the friendly chatting and banter between guests and workers. This makes for a more unique and enjoyable experience that Ive found to be lacking in other establishments. My barber / stylist recently moved and I needed a new guy, so I met Dani who is awesome with attention to beard styling, facial, and faded haircut, so I applied and I got new barber and Union Barber Associate got a new client. I have my regular appointments booked weekly and always look fresh and clean. Dani and the other staff seem very personable and the shop is super clean and always full of energy.

Just got my hair cut at Union Barber in Ferndale and am extremely satisfied and not at all surprised. Before lockdown this was my goto spot and now will continue to be. I love my curls and have found it difficult to find a good barber who understands my hair and what I’ve wanted in the past. Now, Sarah is the only person I’ll let touch my hair, as she has never ceased to get it perfect. In addition to being extremely skilled in her craft, she is fun, kind, caring, helpful, and professional. I will also say from the greeting to the floor, all of the other employees I have met seem to share these qualities, and were Sarah to be unavailable, I might indeed feel comfortable with them taking a whack at my curls, but for now Sarah’s my gal and I’m very happy with that! The environment at Union is exactly what I want, unpretentiously cool, down to earth, and welcoming. All the areas including the floor and the facilities have been clean every time I have been here. I book my appointments online and find it extremely easy, and I’ve never had a problem with availability. I do not usually write reviews like this, but was compelled to do so as I am truly thrilled to be able to get haircuts again at this place, and definitely want to them to succeed. Union Barber is a great place to get a haircut. I followed the person (Maureen, the best) that has been cutting my hair for a few years now. I frequent both Ferndale and Birmingham. Both locations have a great feel and are a great place to get a haircut. They have a good online reservation system so I never have to pick up the phone which I appreciate. Also, I have been here multiple times since they were allowed to reopen after the pandemic closure, including a trip with my 9 year old. They take the Covid safety protocols very seriously. I feel safe there. Cheers to the Union Barber team! Job well done.

Came in from outta town and very badly needed a trim. Im trying to grow my hair so cutting it off would have to be done carefully and they did just that. They cleaned me up and set me up for a nice hair do once it starts growing in more. I’d definitely recommend!

Not happy with both times Ive been. they never listen or follow what I ask them to do. I even bring pictures. I still end up completely hating the hair cut and wishing Id never made the appointment. I wont be back.

The staff at Union Barber have always been amazing. And especially in light of COVID, they have taken every precaution. The shop is pristine, everyone wears masks, and I see everything being sanitized between every client. Even when my stylist Maureen was going to cut around my ears, she asked permission to move my mask elastic. Trinity at Union has been cutting my hair for close to two years. I always have a great haircut thanks to her. Shes recommended a product that I really like and has shown me other products without any pushing. Always punctual and has great manner, whether I want to chat or just relax. 5 stars!Update: Trinity is no longer at Union Barber, but I can still recommend this barber shop. I have had appointments with a few other barbers here in the past, and they do good work as well.

I have been getting my undercut done here for over 2 years! Had a few barbers work on my hair, all wonderful and no offense to them, but Rhonda is my favorite. Great human and talented barber. I see Trinity once every 6 weeks. I always walk away happy with my cut. Recently I asked for a product suggestion to style my fairly curly hair for a wedding and she referred me to the best product Ive used in years. Trinity is great, super chill, and on certain days brings her cute pups to work.

I made an appointment for 3:45 PM. I showed up about 15 minutes early for the appointment and no one was at the front desk to check in with so I sat down and waited. I waited until 4:00 PM and not a single person in the salon had acknowledged me.If you are the type of person who feels comfortable speaking up in order to be helped then maybe this would be a good place to get your haircut. If you prefer being treated like a valued customer and not like an invisible man you may want to find an alternative salon.

My son and I have been going to Union Barbershop in Ferndale 3+ years now a loyal client of Macie C. The entire staff is friendly and very personable. After reopening from the Covid shut down, they are following strict guidelines to make sure clients and staff are safe with masks and wiping down after each client. Keep up the great work!

I’ve been going to Union Barber since I moved to Michigan. It’s environment is old school and modern at the same time, the staff is all really friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming and warm Trinity has been my barber for the entire time and she’s been fantastic! She’s always friendly, she’s great at offering new styles, and I always walk away with a great cut!

Trinity has been my barber for several months now and I hope that I will never have the need to find another. I have never been more satisfied with a barbers work, and I have found her thoughtful and engaging manner to be an added bonus to receiving an excellent haircut. I would also like to add that, in addition to the above, I have greatly appreciated her contacting me on occasion to provide a heads-up when an event in downtown Ferndale might affect parking for an appointment.

Barber decided for himself that i wear my hair up, i do not, i repeatedly told him i do not, he cut my hair so it looks bad every way unless i wear it up, which is a terrible look. Hiw dare they decide for me that i need to wear either a hat or put my hair up in a ridiculous tiny man bun.

This place has been my barber shop of choice for over 3 years. Sarah does a great job every time! The rest of the staff is friendly and Im offered a beverage every visit on the way in and on the way out. Its a little old school with a modern twist. Appointment setup is surprisingly simple and they never get it wrong.

It took me some time to find a place that I was comfortable getting a beard and mustache trim, its not something that is easy to do. I looked at the websites of Detroit Barber Co. & Parlor Thirteen but saw mostly information having to do with hot shaves and haircuts. Union Barbers website made me feel comfortable with the fact that they have experience trimming facial hair because it was a stand alone option that you could select. The person that I was set up with was Alicia S. and she was fantastic. She was also very personable and easy to get along with. Everything was great, from the person at the front desk to the experience. I highly recommend the Ferndale location and the $15 dollar beard and mustache trim. A+++

I will tell you my story but only if you will listen of this tragedy that has befallen me. I have kept silent about what happened to me for over a year but inspired by the comments of the fellow abused just striving for an acceptable cut. I made an appointment with a man named norm his beard length and unruliness was more of than enough to scare someone who was supposed to have him cut there hair. As soon as I sat down the lady cutting hair sitting next to us said, He is cutting your hair, good luck I laughed at what I thought was a joke but little did I know what horror would come to my stylish look within the hour. He pulled out his blade and asked, Do u want a fade, I responded, I do not know wishing now that I could have said no but he decided for me and started to carve the fade. Within minutes of starting the cut he says, oops, u dont have a girlfriend right? I did not and responded accordingly he said good. He had obviously made a mistake and did not want to admit it. he continued the haircut by raving about his girlfriend from Toledo and how he liked going to all the dive bars down there. I was finally free of his chair of horror but I had not seen what was on my head. I got out of there as soon as I could not wanting to be seen and didnt check it until I was safe in my car, and what I saw was worse than anything you could ever imagine it is unfathomable for u to think of the horror that had come to my hair. I was thoroughly disappointed and months of my life have been ruined and every day i see this place it reminds it should be closed by the health department. I would greatly appreciate the offering of a refundment but wont take as I will never show my face there again.

This is a great barbershop. Ive been going here for about a year and Im very happy I switched. I used to just go to Great Clips, but Id often leave with uneven or messy cuts. The staff at Union always does a good job, I havent gotten a bad cut since I switched. They have a really nice online system for setting up appointments too which is really convenient. Its a little more than the cheap places but still a really great price and well worth it.

Ive been getting my hair cut at Union for two years and I love it. The atmosphere is great and so are the people. The complimentary cokes are a great plus along with the great haircuts.

Beware. Not all of the barbers know what they are doing...major hacks. They will also charge your card for a haircut if you book online and are a few minutes late without honoring the appointment...even though they are consistently running behind themselves. I had that experience today. Very unprofessional and lacking in experience. I will never return.

The hair cut came out great and he spent a lot of time making sure the beard trim looked just as good. A great spot if youre looking for an all inclusive barber shop with reflective salon-like prices to match. Very friendly and down-to-earth staff.But in all honesty, I wasnt that impressed with my shave.

Mark did a great job. It was my first time coming here and I would definitely return.Edit-Ive been coming here for a couple of years now and the barbers are all great. David was my go to until he left and Trinity has been doing a great job since then. I get a great haircut and they even have glass bottle Coke while you wait.

Wish I could give it more stars. The owner Mark gives an amazing hair cut and shave, as well as being a genuinely nice dude. The atmosphere is super cool as well; its just an all around great spot. Oh and when you go, do yourself a favor and get a hot towel, youll thank me later. Its the perfect way to unwind after a day at work.

To be honest before this place I thought barber shops were a scam. Most of my hair cuts come out wrong and Id just end up shaving my head anyway. But at Union Baber I consistently get great results. The staff are friendly and all very talented.

Since my old shop closed, I tried Union Barber for the first time today. My initial impressions were great; the concierge was exceptionally friendly and inviting, and helped me work out a booking issue that was likely caused by my naive use of their web site. I was seated and the barber (stylist?) asked how I wanted my hair cut, and I gave a description. The place is really cool-looking inside, by the way. Things took a turn when the barber started long-running conversations with other staff, but ignored me, no matter how much I tried to butt into the conversation. I think I did get a half-interested oh really? somewhere along the line, then just decided to sit there quietly. I was also perturbed by the fact the barber was trying to tell another barber some place shed visited, and took time out for too lengthy of a Google search while I sat there. Its really okay if you cant remember the place right off the top of your head, please focus on the client. Midway through my haircut the barber was informed their next customer had arrived, and despite my request to cut the top short, the barber swooped it up with product and took *nothing* off the top. I got a shave and was sent on my way. I noticed right away in my car that a big patch on my neck was missed - also, the barber didnt bother nipping a few stray eyebrows, as Ive been accustomed to for years. I think they were shuttling me along to get to the next appointment. I dont want to slam the place because of this one experience, but a place that brags about dirty jokes - free! should be more customer-focused and engaging, and not be rushing clients out if theyre getting behind.

I started going to Alicia W SHE IS AMAZING! Unfortunately I couldn’t wait till her next available appointment. I made an appoint Saturday for 11:30a due to traffic, arrived at 11:39a and was told by Sara who was going to cut my hair that I was 10-minutes late and they have a 10-minute policy. I pointed out I was just under that 10-minute, she said I can’t see you we called. I had zero calls from the salon. I’ll go back for Alicia only. Sara was very snotty, and if I were a new customer I would never return because of her horrible customer approach. Had I actually received a call I would’ve been fine, but don’t lie to me, you were cashing out someone already standing at cash out when I arrived. Even when I arrive for an appointment I have to wait roughly 5-10minutes. Smh

Editing my intial review due to stellar customer service. Had a issue with my first visit but the staff reached out to me immediately to resolve the issue. On my return visit, David was my barber and did an amazing job on my cut. The place has a great vibe and everyone is friendly. I really appreciate the management taking my concerns seriously and going above and beyond. Thanks again to David and the rest of the staff, I will be returning for my next haircut.

A beautiful and clean barber shop that offers fair prices. I only go here solely for Patrick Gibbons. He’s arguably one of the better (best) barbers in this shop. His style that he has gives my hair the best result and I can explain what I want roughly and Patrick will take it even farther and add little touches like give me really nice fades and give me a Line which adds a nice look.Any one looking for the BEST result, book your appt with Patrick Gibbons.

One of the few places where you can still get a hot shaving cream and straight razor shave. The staff is great, and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed.

It was a great experience, scheduling an appointment was easy and hassle free, the second you walk in youre greeted by an extremely courteous staff and Patrick did an amazing job taking care of the mess that was on my face. I have to say this is the best Ive ever looked, thanks Patrick. Ill definitely come back and recommend people to Union Barber and to Patrick.

Great experience. The prices are high, but it is what you would expect from downtown Ferndale. Patrick did a great job. He seemed a lot more detail oriented than other barbers I have been to.

Ive been to the Birmingham and Ferndale locations, and theyre both great. I use the online appointment maker and just take whoever is available - and so far that has worked out great. Each stylist Ive seen has been great at their craft, but I go back because theyre fun & personable.Hell, I dont have that much hair left to cut - so it MUST be an enjoyable event for it to seem worthwhile. When it stops being fun I guess Ill just get some Braun clippers and do it myself.

I came here to get a haircut at 6 p.m. My barber, David Vo, was probably 8 hours into a shift already, likely 10 heads or so already cut. But he showed no sign of fatigue. Ive never received a haircut from him and I showed him a picture, but he replicated it masterfully. He also was able to do the haircut fast. I highly recommend that you go here.Theres also a nice vintage atmosphere. Theres wooden cabinets With typewriters in them, old school straight razors for sale, high-end grooming products. Also there is a vintage glass bottle Coke machine which they give to customers complementary.

Love this place for our boys’ haircuts. The atmosphere is modern and fun and the kids love going. They haven’t received a bad haircut with any of the barbers.
