Piss poor customer service! Does not answer the phone on no day! Very rude and does not show any empathy or remorse for taking a week to call you back! When expressing frustration then you become the bad guy! It could be because I’m black, I’m not too sure but I’ll never recommend anyone to use them to conduct business because they don’t know how to deal with potential tenants. They’ll literally run the tenants away with their attitudes and unprofessional actions.

TLDR: NHL was irresponsible with their timelyness and quality of repairs (in dangerous situation). Additionally, they do not provide a clean rental at the start of a lease or maintain the status of property prior to rental.I can only share my experience and hope it will inform others in their decision. I have several issues with the quality of NHL management service.I was their tenant for a year. I had to move into a house sight unseen due to work. My move in experience was: The rental was not clean at the time of move in (which i paid $100 fee for it to be cleaned, didnt matter). There was overgrown plants and trees on the property. There were broken lawn ornaments (ceramics) in the yard. The owner of the propertys personal belongings (and trash) took up half the storage space in the basement. The toliet leaked when flushed (Was repaired quickly though)The first incident with NHL was when there was significant rain fall and the basement flooded. It took several days for someone to come snake the basement drain to prevent it from happening again (Fine, it was very busy they claim, the water was not signficant, but enough to get most everything wet.) However, there was still the owners belongings to deal with. I alerted NHL that someone would want to come and see what was saveable. I reminded them 3 times, no one came or contacted me to set up a time for someone to come sort through belongings. Failure to respect their tenant and the owner, and could cause mold from letting all that sit in the water.Second incident. In the middle of my lease, any time it rained, water flooded and overflowed out of the bathroom lightfixture. I called, they promised someone would come out and fix it. I was told just not to use the only light in the only bathroom for a few days to dry out. For 6 months, the problem was not solved. Sometimes it took weeks to get someone out to try and fix the problem. Sometimes people showed up without warning me. Repairman after repairman informed me that the roof needed to be replaced and NHL and the owner of the property refused to do so (I was told at one point it was the 8th time NHL had been told to make repairs). So everytime it rained for 6 months, water came through a light fixture.Additionally, the interactions with the office staff via phone and email interactions were frequently rude and unsympathetic.Overall, sometimes NHL communicated with me, sometimes it was rude, sometimes I was left ignored for weeks at a time. Sometimes NHL was quick to make repairs, sometimes I was ignored and left in a dangerous situation. I would not recommend NHL property management to anyone I know.My positive? They were pet friendly for an additional fee which is hard to find in the area.

NHL Property Management is the worst company I have ever done business with. They are unorganized and no one communicates with each other. I moved in during Covid-19 and right before the state shut down however prior to signing my lease I asked them to address the issues in the house prior to moving in which was never done. The accused me of not paying my rent when in fact I paid months in advance just to be ahead. There are too many issues to name with this property and no one has reached out even though I have sent numerous emails. Paying rent online is complicated at best. There is a laundry list of things that need to be done and no one has reached out to apologize, acknowledge or even attempt to give a time frame when they will remedy the situation. I could however do the work myself but they will not reimburse me is what I was told but they want their rent on time. I have 3-4 different people I have to talk to for different things and all they do is pass me off to the next person and so on and nothing gets resolved. They do not call back when they say they will. This is very frustrating and stressful during this time and they do not seem to care. Also upon move in the home was not cleaned which is the same for other reviews I read and when I requested it to be cleaned prior to moving in they made a big deal of it and acted like I was wrong for asking. Do not rent from them if you have other options.
No cleaning was completed upon move in. The stove and refrigerator was so deplorable, that we requested it be moved out of the house. On day 1 of move in, the house was disgusting. There was crayon marks on the walls in the bedrooms. The work orders that we put in were closeout, yet no work was completed. The management is so rude and passive aggressive. I do not reccomend! Rent at your own risk! They do not care about their tenants. They failed a city inspection and the city forced them to complete repairs that had been ignored for months. If you want a company that will take your money, and talk disrespectful to you, this company is your man! Terrible experience!
1. Wasnt too happy with the repair process. In one instance they couldnt find someone to do the repair for two months, so I gave up and did it myself.2. Then upon move out they took money for broken blinds out of our security deposit, despite that being written on our initial move in assessment. Not worth arguing over though.3. The owner decided to sell his property with about 8 months left on our lease, and we accommodated the viewings we could and even often changed our schedule to let people in. This amounted to allowing 60% of requested viewings, about 20, over three months. Then the owner just decided not to sell, so that was an annoyance for nothing. This wasnt before NHL complained we werent being accommodating and thats why it wasnt selling. They threatened to tell the owner we were the issue, too. If youve had 20 showings, havent gotten one offer, and your asking price is 10% over a similar place down the road then maybe the problem isnt us?I explained that we didnt want to allow people to let themselves in without us there because my Mom had some stuff stolen from her house recently during showings. NHL didnt care. I explained I could not stay in Detroit some weekends to let people in because I had to give my brother a break from taking care of my terminally ill parents in Ohio. NHL didnt care. They just wanted as many showings as possible. Their insistence came at a very difficult point in my life and caused unnecessary stress.That said, the experience before the owner decided to sell was fairly average.
The team at NHL has been nothing less than kind, generous, and understanding. We moved into a home they are managing in Oak Park and theyve been incredibly prompt with responding to service requests and general questions. If the home needs something, they make a push for it with the owner and get it approved; its that simple. If I ever get into the rental business, Ill be sure to contact them to help management my properties. Until then, I enjoy working with Zach over at NHL to handle all my rental needs. Thank you!
I have lived in a home managed by NHL for the past 2 years. Initially there were a few issues with the house when I moved in. I held my breath anticipating push back about a stopped drain, or dripping faucet, etc. But nope. NHL was absolutely responsive, calling in specialists or their own guys who knew what to do. And all done amazingly fast!They even schedule folks to come and clean our gutters every autumn. I have found the owners and office staff all pleasant to work with. I am very grateful these folks have my back!
My husband and I are ending our lease early due to purchasing a home for our family. We did not have the most ideal experience in trying to accomplish this initially. We were able to however give at least 3 stars after speaking with one of the owners who contacted us directly to try and remedy the situation and to be sure we had all the information we needed. For that we are appreciative!
Howard & the gang over at NHL are great! They did a great job of managing the property we rented for 7 years. Quick to provide service on items that needed repair and service was always friendly. Highly recommend NHL Property Management.
I have contracted NHL for over five years to maintain my rental property and its leasing. I had one tenant that whole time which is a testament to NHLs excellence. NHL has kept my wife and me in the loop, with very open channels of communication. I heartily recommend NHL.
The office staff are understanding and responsive. The communication with them was good and it was a great experience working with them. They cooperated throughout the process and we got to close fast.
No cleaning was done upon move in, major issues with house yet they still want you to pay full rent even if its not safe. its been months since some of my first issues were brought to their attention, nothing happened. out of all the major issues, which includes pictures and email chains, the MAJOR repairs...nothing..no discount on rent or anything and they still want full payment without hold up to their end.
I can’t say enough about Howard and the rest of the staff. Now these are people who really care about your well being. Very polite and professional property maintenance is 100. Most of all they will get to know you and help you work through the rough times. They have been there for me and my family, and I owe them a ton of gratitude.Thanks again crewJim H

NHL has been great over the last 4+ years, excellent staff and responsive to any complaints.-Now if only they could open up their online payment system to accept early payments or payments before the due date (maybe a week or two before the due date)
If you are seeking a leasing company that exudes excellence in customer service, addressing property repairs in timely manner (same day or within 24 hours or loss) and a staff that makes you feel like family then NHL Property Management is the company that will exceed your expectations.NHL was my property management company for over four years and I can recall various times when my home was in need of an urgent repair (hottest day of the year - a/c fizzled & furnace issue) and a repairman was at my door, solving the issue asap. There was no time loss, whereas my famiy did not suffer as a result of an issue. I called in the serv. i problem and the staff addressed each issue with the professionalism one would expect.I also recall a time when I was between jobs or suffered a layoff and my rent could not have been paid on time and the staff never turned their backs on me. They made helpful arrangements with me until I was back on my feet.I appreciate the management team and staff at NHL Property Managements because of the treatment I received, I felt like family. When my back was against the wall, they were there for me.Thank you NHL words can never express the depths my gratitude.

I have been renting through them four 3 years now. I never have a problem and if something breaks the are on top of it. They are a great management company.
Rented through NHL for two years. No issues as a tenant payment was easy and online, realtors showing the condo were timely and pleasant.However, if I had been the owner I would have been very upset. We had a pipe burst in the garage of the condo we were renting, and when we called NHL about the garage flooding they told us to just let it go and they would send someone out soon. Thankfully, we found the emergency water shutoff so the garage wasnt totally ruined (pipe burst about 3 feet above the ground and water started flooding through the drywall). THREE days later a handy man called to come check it out, (what if we didnt find the water shut off??), I took the afternoon off work to meet him and he never showed up. Several calls to NHL later they said he would reschedule. Two weeks later I was moving out, and still have no idea how long it took to get the issue fixed.
NHL goes over and above when it comes to offering good service to land lords and tenants. They always return my calls with a solution and a smile.
Kind hearted business people. I love my place in Hazel Park and I will be recommending them family and friends when I hear they are looking for a new place to stay 😊
