We have had amazing experiences at Red River Traditional TaeKwonDo. Master Jim is phenomenal working with the students. He clearly cares about them and has high expectations. My kids developed their physical strength and their confidence. Master Jim is one in a million.

My children and I have been students at Red River Traditional Tae Kwon Do for many years. Master Jim is a fantastic teacher. He is easy going and fun, but also expects you to try hard and do your best. He will not give you anything you dont earn, but he will make you work hard to allow you to do things you would not have thought possible.Through the years he has helped teach my boys (and me) integrity, perseverance, and self control among other traits that will help us throughout our lives.I cannot recommend this program highly enough.

Jim is an exemplary role model for kids of all ages. He is fair, respectful, and encouraging. Not only is he teaching the Art of Taekwondo, but he is also building confidence and self-esteem. He is truly passionate about his career and takes the time to ensure each person, down to the littlest of littles, is learning and having a bit of fun.

Master Jim is excellent with kids and adults alike. The gym has bathrooms and changing rooms. There are chairs for parents to watch practice. Classes are inclusive and well-staffed. The discipline is friendly, and the program is somewhat self-paced. Its a wonderful gym for beginners or experienced athletes.

We love RRTKD and have enjoyed watching our kids mature in their personal discipline, strength and poise, as well as in their TKD rankings. Master Jim is an incredible teacher and mentor to his students, and I recommend RRTKD to all families who are looking to engage in an activity that is enriching for the body, mind and soul.

My kids and I all learned TaeKwonDo from Grand Master Jim. This was a deliberate choice on my part as I wanted my kids to learn more than punching, kicking and point based sparring. I was happy to have Grand Master Jim as a very positive influence on my kids as I raised them.Grand Master Jim routinely reminds the kids (and adults) that he doesn’t respect them because they can fight. He then reminds them that animals fight. He continues that he respects them because they are good people.Grand Master Jim expects kids to behave at home as well as in class, and checks to make sure that is the case. He teaches them age appropriate self defense techniques and challenges them physically. As an adult student, I can say that I greatly admire Grand Master Jim’s rigor. He can—and will—have the best conditioned students gasping for air, and will (safely) stretch anyone beyond their comfort zones routinely. Grand Master Jim is a fantastic teacher, has an exceptional grasp on fighting styles and techniques and lives the Tenets of TaeKwonDo every day.One final word for those concerned that TarKwonDo is not a realistic self defense martial art: don’t you believe it. The traditional style as taught by Master Jim is absolutely real world ready. Trust me on this.

We initially started with RRTKD as they offered an adaptive program through Fargo Parks and Recreation that was perfect for our son with Autism. Initially I was not on board to be perfectly honest, the last thing I wanted to introduce to someone with outburst potential was precise kicks and punches. Five minutes into the first session, I was 100% on board! We were so incredibly impressed that the focus was just as much on the Tenets (values) of TaeKwonDo as the techniques. I was instantly put at ease. By the third week my other kids were begging to participate and we’ve been at the gym twice a week ever since (14 months) We currently have 3 kids ages 5, 10 and 13 attending and our 2 year old has been doing her own move on the sidelines for months! As soon as she turns 5 she will participate as well.Having a son or daughter that needs special accommodations comes with its own special challenges. Not all “adaptive” programs are created equal, so for us to find an environment and instructors that were able to connect with our son is just incredible. They set realistic expectations and goals while encouraging him to push himself. He has never ever asked to skip a class or wanted to give up…and not because it’s easy and he is just “playing”. He has made connections here and wants to do well.Being a busy family of 7 having the flexibility of being able to attend which ever time slot works for us on a class by class basis allows us to never miss a session. The adaptive class is set, but there are multiple options for the other classes. As parents, my husband and I appreciate having another positive role model for our kids. Master Jim has the perfect balance of structure, personality and positive expectations that creates an environment our kids have all thrived in. There are a handful of gyms that are closer to where we live, but our experience here is absolutely worth the extra miles. We love Red River Traditoonal TaeKwonDo!

RRT TKD has been a wonderful experience for my 3 daughters, ages 13, 8 & 5. Learning TKD under the kind and focused direction of Master Jim and his instructors has taught my girls self confidence, perseverance and self control. Their ability to engage in activities of self control, spatial awareness and bodily control have improved so much in just 6 months. I would definitely recommend RRT for all kids, especially those that need a little boost in self confidence, self control or perseverance.

If you are thinking of having your child attend Taekwondo, you must attend a session with Grandmaster Jim and his team. His passion for the sport shines, his personality shows discipline yet he is able to gain the respect of the children. It is a site to see and hear. Thank you for what you do for these kids!

Jim is a great teacher of TKD, discipline, instilling confidence, integrity, and manners. It’s more than just exercise and learning a skill. He is giving the kids life lessons and has a way about having the kids really buy into it. The adult pupils seem to enjoy it as well.

We were invited the first time by a friend. I was very skeptical that my 2 kids (7&9) would appreciate the type of activity TKD presented in my eye. When my kids attended it they loved it. Theyre not the most physically active so this has been a great addition to their schedule. We started out once a week then twice a week then got the unlimited package and go for between 2 & 8 classes a week. The price is REALLY great as with the unlimited package we have had our kids attend 3 consecutive classes! Our kids love it and have been progressing both physically and mentally in the class. Theyre still children but after almost a year the kids are starting to get into the deeper aspects that TKD has to offer. Master Jim is fantastic and we wouldnt change anything about this TKD.⭐6 year later update: This gym still rocks. Both of my kids are now black belts and my daughter is an assistant here. This has been one of the best investments I have ever made in my kids lives.
