Review №1

I was having a yard sale. I posted a sign at the light on Broadway and Main. It was windy outside, and my signs blew EVERYWHERE, but after chasing them down and struggling for 15 minutes, I had a sign up.At that time, a man in a shirt that said B.I.D. came running up to me and told me I couldnt have my sign up. Thinking he was saying I couldnt have my sign posted at a light (maybe it would distract drivers?), I asked where I could post my sign. He gestured to the light and said nowhere in Downtown Fargo. Dispirited, I said that I wished he would have told me before I spent so much time putting it up.I continued walking and posted a sign lower to the ground on an empty metal post. Again, I struggled putting it up, but as soon as it was up, the man came running up to me and shouted at me about posting the sign. Naturally, I became defensive and replied you said no light posts. The man became extremely condescending and threatened to call the Fargo Police Department- after I was already taking down the sign. On my walk home, I saw the man 2 more times. Not only was I rattled from being threatened due to a misunderstanding, I began to feel unsafe. I decided to Google what B.I.D. was and make a call. I left a voicemail stating I had a concern.I was getting my yard ready and noticed I had several missed calls. They called again, and I answered. I recognized the mans voice, so I asked to have an in-person meeting to discuss the concern. He had an exasperated tone and became pushy- asking me multiple times to tell him what my concern was. He even offered to come meet me at my location. Feeling terrified at this point, I said I would rather discuss it in a meeting the following week.He became hostile and blatantly asked if the concern was about the signs I tried to put up. Keep in mind, this man never asked my name either time I was putting up the signs- he had assumed who I was and his behavior on the phone reflected this. Hoping he might change his behavior if I told him, I said my concern was that he made me feel unsafe. He then began to gaslight me and said that he warned me and the only person who was being unsafe or disrespectful was me. I tried to explain that I misunderstood and was confused about how I was being unsafe. I asked to discuss the situation with someone else, and he shouted that he would pass my number along and hung up on me.I called back several minutes later and left a voicemail stating that I didnt like the way our conversation went. I requested a call back to have a constructive conversation about how our interactions could have gone better. I suspect that I wont get a call back. If I am given a constructive meeting and a sincere apology, I will happily delete this review. Until then, I hope D.F.B.I.D will consider this feedback.1. We had 3 interactions, and this person never told me their name. I only know that they were working at 6 PM on 5/28/2021. I also only know that he works for D.F.B.I.D. because Im resourceful and Googled B.I.D. In the future, it would likely make people feel safer to know under what authority theyre being corrected.2. I am not stupid. I defended my dissertation in Clinical Psychology last May. If I was unsure about what I could and could not do, it is reasonable to assume that anyone would be. In the future, please clearly state the rules and where they can be found.3. The way I was approached and spoken to was unacceptable. Particularly when this man directly blamed me for his objectively inappropriate behavior. I wasnt intentionally violating his authority (which he accused me of on the phone); I stated several times that I misunderstood him. I also followed his orders. In the future, approach people slowly. I also dont care what the situation is, always use a level tone.It makes me sad that this happened in Downtown Fargo- where I live and work. To this man directly, I will now only drive where I need to go because of what happened. I hope that instead of becoming defensive youll embrace the business title and really focus on improvement.
