I would give golds negative stars if possible. They are vultures and dont care about their customers. Closing your account will take an act of god, I swear it. Its happened twice now. When covid hit this location closed. We tried to close out our membership but the location was not open and we couldnt get through to anyone on the phone. They also stopped charging us on the auto-debit. We assumed they just closed our our account and they were going out of business. Unbeknownst to us, they moved our account to another location that was still open, without any notification. For 8 months they accrued monthly payments on our account but (didnt hit the auto debit so we had no idea) until we received a letter from a collection agency saying we owed $500.I can go on about how we called everyone and their mother at golds and literally no one cared about helping us but this already long enough. Today we settled w the collection agency and our credit reports will be tainted for 7 years. I would sue but unfortunately weve moved out of state. These guys are giant... Ill stop myself. Get your membership at your own risk, golds is the worst gym in America

The gym itself is pretty ok but if it ever comes time to terminate your membership be prepared for a wild ride. Ive requested my membership he terminated at least six times only to find out that after all of this there is no record of any of it on their end. The business practices at golds gym border on predatory and should be avoided at all costs.Personal trainer bailed on me for pushing myself too hard (at the trainers behest) and having an asthma attack. Golds wouldnt give me a new trainer or refund the remaining sessions I already paid for.

The gym is good. You have to go at certain times so it wont be packed. One thing though they need to hire new people to work at the front desk. The Indian guy which I think are one of the managers is not friendly at all. Very poor customer skills. Dont say hi. Just looks at you. The white girl, and white guy are not friendly neither. They lack customer skills. On the other hand, the Mexican or central american guy is very friendly. He will greet you as you are taking your temperature. They need to hire more people with customer service skills. Other than that the gym is not bad

Abysmal customer relations. Ive had bad encounters with gyms in the past when it comes to cancelling memberships but this one takes the cake. Pretty sure what they did to me is illegal but given the stakes its hard to take legal action.I canceled my membership when my location shutdown, the billing ceased, and I went on with my life. A few months later I noticed they charged me again so I cancelled them from my credit card. From this moment on they continued to bill me monthly for 6 months and then claimed I owed them all those dues. After polite phone calls and emails to tell them I had cancelled and they should remove the charges they claim that since there is no record of my cancellation there is nothing they can do. The real kicker is they had no record of my logins at my location either which leads me to believe they intentionally misplace records so that they can chase you down for bills. How they managed to reinstate my membership is of major concern, too. This institution would rather alienate people and conduct shady business practices, than instill good will and try to earn back my business. I will never recommend Golds to anyone. If you ever come across Logan or Eva at customer relations be weary.

I renew my membership who expired this past March when the virus hit. I called several times to renew, no one picked up the phone and when I left a message no one called me back. So I went there on Saturday and told the person at the counter about it - his answer NONE. I asked if they were strict on the new boundaries due to the virus, a simple yes. Then I asked why do you let this lady cross the whole gym (which is big) without a mask. He looked and said she has a health condition so if she has then why isnt she wearing one. He said I know her, then called her by her first name and said where is your mask? It happened to be in the office and they both laughed. Did I miss something? I am not sure if I should go back, my immunity has been compromised and I work for a surgeon. So we see patients by respect I should be concerned for them.

Ive had and still currently having a horrible experience with customer service. I sent an email back in september about updating payment info and they got back to me a week ago 12/2. If I hadnt gone in person to change it who knows how much they wouldve charged me. Secondly, they have been repeatedly over charging me and when I spoke to someone about the charge he told me to send an email which was two weeks ago now and still no reply. I dont understand how hard it is to reply to an email. Thirdly, given the pandemic and how loosely they enforce the mask wearing mandate, Ive felt very uncomfortable with the environment and have been wanting to cancel my membership. I also heard that they were going to charge all members an additional percentage due to loss of revenue due to the pandemic. I was told that regardless of the global situation chances of cancelling were unlikely or that Id have to pay a large fee and then again sent to email customer service. Which has sent me down another rabbit hole endlessly waiting for an automated reply from a jock in an office. This is supposed to be a multi million dollar corporation and this is the best customer service they offer? I would rather go to planet fitness in the midst of this outbreak. I never write reviews but this deserved special attention. Maybe this is why branches keep closing? I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere as soon as I get my email confirmation back hopefully sometime this decade.

The mask requirement is WAY too loosely enforced. Im regularly surrounded by 3 or more people doing the ol mask pulldown below nose/mouth move throughout their workout. Occasionally no mask at all. **DO NOT JOIN THIS LOCATION!**I joined this Golds Gym in January of 2013 on a month-to-month basis with the possibility of moving. When I signed up, I read in the contract and had been told that if I wanted to cancel my membership, I would be able to do so if I moved to a location without a corporate owned Golds Gym. I ended up moving to the upper Midwest in March 2013, nowhere near a corporate owned Golds Gym (theres not even one in my state). I attempted to cancel my membership in April of 2013. The operations manager said it would be no problem. I provided proof of location change with copy of insurance bill and driver’s license. She said it would be no problem. It is now November 2013 and I’m still trying to exit the contract. Customer service is no help and says if I were to exit contract with them, I’d need to give 30 day notice which I have several occasions (and provided previous correspondence via email). I ended up opening a claim with my bank on Gold’s Gym and blocking all future charges. Even after a month of having my bank block charges, I’m still getting emailed by the operations manager that I need to pay for my account.I urge you to be very careful when joining Gold’s Gym and if you do, please do your research on where to sign up. I would think that they’re not all like this, otherwise they wouldn’t be in business. This location however is awful. The other 2 reviews are similar in nature. There is a pattern!

Terrible management. Machines disappear or get put in the ladies gym with no replacement. Yet they have multiple duplicates of other machines on the floor and could put one of those out of general circulation. When I mentioned this to the manager he just muttered something about blaming it on “corporate” and didn’t take any responsibility or even seriously consider fixing it. Staff is very rude, especially one woman who works at the front desk. When I tried to get her name later she was nowhere to be found (typical). After doing essentially the same Curves workout for over 5 years, Im enjoying the variety of workout experiences offered here, including the different machines and the classes. Ive had the chance to take Bodyflow classes from 3 different instructors, and while each was different, all were equally good. I am also tapping into the personal trainer opportunity and have really enjoyed working with Phillip. He has taken the time to understand what I hope to accomplish and work with me. While I eventually hope to be able to work independent of any trainer, I fully appreciate the benefit of Phillip and the support and direction that he provides me at this beginning stage of my efforts. I LOVE this gym, been going here for almost 3 years. I enrolled in the Golds Gym Fit Challenge last February, and it has been one of the best things Ive ever committed to. Ive dropped 35+ pounds, put on some muscle, and feel great about myself. The regulars are really friendly people -- theyre there to do their work, but they will gradually warm up once they see you around for long enough. I owe a lot to both the regulars AND the trainers there -- Philip and Sofia have both been really open about fitness and nutrition advice, as is the shop manager, Remy. My Dad used to tell me, Never ask a fat guy how to get skinny. With these folks, you are definitely in good hands because you can see they really live fit, and the results show.Best times to go are, of course, when everyone else is at work, however even during rush hour there are plenty of machines. Youll have to wait for a bench or a squat rack on occasion if your target time is 7am or 5pm, but most folks dont mind giving a spot or letting you work in. Everybody plays nice in the sandbox. My wife drags me to spin class on Saturdays...I hate it because Im not a cardio guy and not particularly athletic, but its been a major help getting me to slim down. This gym has benefits over XSport: The equipment for the price is pretty equivalent, but this place is nowhere near as crowded during rush hour as XSport is. Its a zoo over there, plus parking is a nightmare in that garage. Overall Ive had a pretty good experience here.

I love the Les Mills group exercise classes at this Golds Gym. The instructors are outstanding: professional, courteous, highly fit, motivating and as concerned about preserving members safety as they are about encouraging them and showing them how to get a great workout. For anyone unfamiliar with Les Mills, its a bunch of inventive fitness addicts headquartered in New Zealand who choreograph--meticulously--creative workout routines set to popular music tracks. The workouts focus on all parts of the body and provide excellent interval-based cardio training (except for the yoga/pilats--Body Flow class) interspersed with some toning and ab work, followed by cool-down. The genres range from martial arts to athletic step to weight training to one class that I like to refer to as high impact calisthenics on steroids (Body Attack) and those are just a few. The moves take a few classes to learn but the classes are worth the effort. Theyre fun and you can burn 700 calories or far more in many of them if you work hard. Golds instructors help you to do that and build a real sense of camaraderie among those who take the classes. I had trouble finding a gym that has a lot of the Les Mills classes I like to take but, thanks to the Merriefield location, I can take up to 10 classes a week and am in the gym six days of every 7. Its also a friendly atmosphere but a serious work-out one. Folks are friendly and theres plenty of banter among them and with the friendly staff but were there to get it done. If youre looking for a tough but enjoyable group-x workout with great instructors and friendly, dedicated members, Golds in Merriefield is a good choice.
