I have used Quinns several times and found some very unique pieces at amazing prices! This is a treasure trove and many items are antique, sure they may be dusty or even musty but for the price it’s a steal! Also, for those of us that still appreciate the feel of turning pages and reading an actual book; they have book auctions periodically where you will find some very interesting and rare, hard to find books! Their staff works hard to make sure items are out and ready for pick up. They are always very courteous and helpful ( although they understandably cannot help load items so bring help if needed ). This is a great place to find beautiful and unique items and get a crazy deal! Thanks guys!
I go to Quinns Auction Galleries fairly often and it is such a joy to see Robert there. He is always ready with our auction items and is very helpful in helping us load some of our items into our car (although sometimes its a miracle we can even fit everything inside). Quinns auction never ceases to amaze me on the variety of items available, the helpful staff and fantastic communication with the buyers. I would also love to commend the other staff who work on photographing and writing descriptions of the items as they are always spot on! Overall a great place to get some fantastic pieces of furniture and other treasures!
I purchased a piece of furniture from them. It arrived dusty and filthy. Once the piece was cleaned- it reeked of CIGARETTE SMOKE. I sent them a polite email letting them know. I thought maybe they would apologize or remove a trivial fee. I got a condescending email from a lady there. She said we are sorry you are disappointed. The issue wasnt my disappoint but rather it was that I spent $200 on furniture that smelt like an ashtray. But she did give me some instructions to put baking soda on it to take it away. Is this a joke?! Avoid at all costs. Stay away. Nothing but scammers.Update: they claim they describe their cigarette smoke smelling furniture as such (below comment). Here is a copy of the description of what I bought copied and pasted from the invoice and auction listing- Has Moderate Wear Especially To Top Surface. See Photos. As you can see there is no mention that the furniture smells of cigarette smoke!Once again, Quinns Auction Galleries prove themselves to be nothing but liars. Absurd...Update: I filled a dispute with my bank, they agreed with me and reversed the charges, as I understand it Quinns credit card processor agreed as well; this was part of the process.
I recently used Quinns Auction to liquidate the estate of my recently deceased uncle. My experience was great! From the initial meeting with the owner, the customer service department, and the team that inventoried and listed the items, they were true professionals. They set great expectations, and delivered on them. Best of all, they communicated! When I had questions, they were quick to answer them, and follow up with whatever they promised. It was great working with them, and I highly recommend them for others in my situation!
Our years long experience with Quinns has been consistently rewarding due to their diligence of transparency and detailed reporting throughout the consignment process. Their bidding and retrieval process is equally user friendly for the full range of items offered during their auctions.
Very sad experience with this Auction house. If they cared half as much about their customers as they do about marketing... I purchased two mirrors from Quinns months ago based on a false description they had provided stating that the mirrors were wooden. They were however entirely composed of plaster wrapped around wire. The false description resulted in the shippers assuming the mirrors were also wooden...and so the packaging choice was not suitable to plaster. The photos were also shopped to give the impression the mirrors were gilded with a nice finishing - they were in fact painted a bright golden color. I received the broken plaster you see in the photos. So then I simply called them and asked them to hopefully get back to me with some kind of solution or explanation. That did not happen. I then emailed them and the owner, a Mr. David Quinn, responded requesting photos. The photos were sent months ago and they have not responded to any calls or emails since. You would figure they would have the common courtesy to at least respond stating they will not be doing anything...but common courtesy is something these people do not possess. They have wiped their hands clean of the situation as they have been paid. I would be very skeptical purchasing anything from this auction house without a detailed and thorough evaluation of what you are buying. If they can abuse their position, they will.
Great management. Detail oriented and very nice. Easy in and easy out.
Enjoyed consigning here over the years, Mike at the front is great. Unfortunately, no consistent process for me but they do what they can. Sometimes a little disorganized, but ultimately Ive enjoyed seeing some of the things they sell, learning about the things that Ive sold. Definitely some interesting auctions here, best in the area.
Didnt work for me
Our first and last time using this auction house. The woman running it didnt have our time written it, we had to show her the email confirmation. Very rude and condescending. The items she attempted to load were not ours. I would have loved to have the furniture but the rightful owner may not have appreciated it.
Talk about BS first my absentee bid not accepted. Then during live auction its accepted I was approved the last bid was withdrawn I was in lead then end abruptly to floor bidder for less than my bid. This auction house is not legit. I challenge auctioneer and the credibility. My lot was 152 on June 27 2020. I beg for a response and others beware shills at this house. Not legit at all.
Quinns Auction Galleries advertises a free evaluation as a scam and waste of 95% of peoples time in taking photos and uploading information. They then refuse to provide the free evaluation. After 6 months of emailing them for my free evaluation they never return calls or emails and just hope you go away. The other 5% who have anything of value Quinns feels they can make sufficient money from they only contact them. This is FALSE and DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING. In addition to the other bad reviews calling them horrible, total scam etc.AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I went to them to pick up an item. It was the first time I had picked up an item from an online auction before. Their staff was SUPER nice and made it a great first experience.
Bought auction items from them twice already but I probably won’t use them again because of bad customer service. Staff was rude and condescending. Instead of explaining the new process due to the covid issue, she was rude and abrupt. I drove a long way to get to the place and a simple explanation would have been acceptable if she was nice about it. I hope it was not because she saw me wearing scrubs (because I was going to work after picking it up and not the other way around). It’s quite sad how people treat frontliners these days. It’s plain discrimination.
Bought some items off of the online auction, on the removal dates it says Thursday, Friday and Monday. I go and try to schedule a pickup time for Thursday and its not on the schedule as pick-up on the link I got. Ive sent numerous calls, email, and Facebook messenger with them seeing the messages and no response or them returning my calls. This is the first and last time with this experience.
Used through Rasmus which usually charges up to a 15% commission. Which is still high but reasonable. Come to find out Quinns charges 23% commission. Not worth it. Defeats the point of buying at auction. Will not use again.
Customer service and communication are top notch! They were able to ship everything securely and it was amazing. Highly recommended
MORAL HAZARD IS WHEN A PERSON OR BUSINESS TAKES YOUR PROPERTY AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR IT:This was our experience with Quinns Auction Galleries located in Falls Church, Va. We were in the process of down sizing and selling our antiques and high-end furnishings that were collected over many years. We took great pride in the care of our furniture and expected the same care from Quinns auction. The Director of the Auction house spent many hours with us working to get our business, but the results and delivery were lackluster, unprofessional and an ignominious failure! We took great care of wrapping all items, provided a detailed list of items for auction and hired their trucking company to deliver our furnishings, the end result was a disaster! We hand delivered many of our items which gave us the opportunity to see how they stored our items in their warehouse. From what we saw, many rooms were in disarray with furniture and accent items thrown together with little organization. We knew then that we had made a terrible mistake! There was no time to make changes as we were under pressure to move out of state. The only reprieve was to salvage some of the items and donate them to Salvation Army. We could not do the same for items that were in their auction process. The net result was that the majority of items auctioned netted a pittance. Items that cost over $30,000 netted under $2,000. We did not expect to get the original amount but expected to receive a fair amount of at least 15-20%, all because they have a LOOP HOLE THAT GROUPS ITEMS FOR AUCTION TOGETHER BY VOLUME.The speed and manner of the auction process was unprofessional. They did not provide reasonably decent photographs on their website and all items were open bids with no minimums! THEY DID NOT STYLIZE OR DSPLAY ITEMS TO THEIR BEST ADVANTAGE. (see photos attached) Many items were lumped together in a haphazard manner. There were some items accidentally left in open bids (item #162 photo) that were supposed to have a reserve. We were able to pull those out but only by our diligence.AUCTIONS WORK FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN THE BUSINESS TO GAIN EASY ACCESS TO ITEMS AT RIDICULOUS BIDS WITH NO MINIMUMS AT THE CONSUMERS EXPENSE! THE LOOP HOLES NEGATE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AS THEY CARE NOT FOR THE OUTCOME. This has been our experience with Quinn’s Auction.Let the buyer beware auctioning with this firm. They were not the best vehicle for liquidating our important furnishings. If you have the time (which we did not-sadly) there are many ways to get more for your return through online websites such as Chairish, Facebook, Craigslist and ebay.com. Using consignment and antique stores and having your own private sale would be more advantageous. Not all auction houses operate this way. We had a good experience working with Weschler’s Auctioneers & Appraisers in Rockville, Maryland. They were organized, consistent, and thorough. They provided professional photos, explained the process and gave us a realistic expectation as to what to expect. We didnt spend endless hours overseeing their process, unlike Quinns. The results were extremely satisfactory.
Quinns is a family auction that has been in Falls Church for many years. They usually have a pretty decent sale every week - and it goes fairly quickly (400 or so lots in 2 hours, more or less). They are very good about helping you collect and move items, as well.
Quinns folks have accommodated me the best they can, letting me pick up items in the middle of an auction, answering questions forthrightly... down right jovial st times. Auction houses are different than Macys. Most are overwhelmed, overworked Respectful and persistent interaction usually wins the day.
Ive had two clients who were referred to Quinns from decluttering and staging experts for selling homes full of mostly high end items. In both cases, they were charged far more transporting their belongings than what they sold for. The only thing I was thankful for was that I had not made the recommendation.
That Quinns has only two reviews is silly. Quinns is both a well-run and friendly auction, with weekly general auctions along with more specific auctions once or twice a month.Anyone interested in participating can simply show up. Bring cash or credit (Im not certain what credit card the other reviewer was using because weve paid using several.)Bidding at the Wednesday auction starts at 6pm and they will run through about 400 items each time. The majority of pieces are decent quality items with a number of fun-to-watch high-end pieces that create battles between the experts.Even if you dont win, or even bid, it is fun just to watch and see all the items. Im temped not to write anything about Quinns but that is just me being greedy about wanting a seat!
Places like this just dont exist much anymore. Its a cool spot to pickup odd items and I know the people behind the scene must work extremely hard to keep things rolling. Its quite an operation!
Nice item, but slow shipping on internet auction. It took over 6 weeks to get some books purchased via an internet auction. This was the slowest service I have ever had from an auction house. At first my e-mails were answered, but my bugging them eventually led to ignored e-mails.
Scam artists, thiefs, liars ..Sent my artwork to them to be auction at Art auction. They removed everything from frames even though they sent me a description of items framed as i requested. Then they put both pieces in a book auction at really low estimates when there were no bidders. Lot was passed .. which i was glad as at least i would get it back and sell it for more on Craigs List. They said they were returning.. then changed their minds and said item was sold for $150 when i know it wasnt as i attended the auction. They then took their commission out of $42 so now they have a piece of art worth $500 for $100. They lied, they didnt do what i asked, they stole. I dont know how Monika Schiavo sleeps at night.
Won some items. Items were MUCH bigger than described so their shipping department offered to remove the biggest item and ship the rest. Then I got a rude message from accounts receivables asking why an item was removed and I need to answer for this..... I called back and left a message letting them know it wasnt my idea and was offered by them. Never received an invoice...... meanwhile they black listed me on Hibid so I couldnt bid on ANYONE. Then a month later I get an email saying they would be invoicing me later that day. Nothing ever came. Not sure if the accounts receivable person is Bi-Polar or what is going on but this place is ran by amateurs.
My family needed to downsize my parents huge collction of antiques and fine paintings.Quinns auction handled everything for us and got us top dollar for our things
Very poor experience with Quinns - sad to say. They would not allow me to pay with a credit card, had to pay with a check. Perfect. Well, I dont live in Virginia and they didnt tell me that there was a 10 day waiting period if paying by check. They informed me I could have UPS pick up the piece I won on May 10th, now, suddenly I cannot pick up the item until may 12th, a full 15 days after the auction. the check cleared on May, 01.They have poor customer service allowing 3-5 days before they return a phone call. A very bad experience and I will certainly never do business with Quinns again.
I purchased an item and since the auction house is several hundred miles from my home I called when I was passing nearbye. They could not locate the item so I didnt attempt to pickup at that time. On my next trip through I called them and the woman on the phone said the man that handled the warehouse was not available and she would not be able to help me so I passed it by again. On this trip through I spoke with a secretary and was told my chest which I paid $726 for was considered abandoned and sold and that since it was left for so long I essentially have no recourse.
Never again!!! Dropped items off sold for little to nothing for verifiable antiques. Took several emails to find out what happened to our items. Some were sold at different auction. No communication from anyone. We feel ripped off.
Stay away
Poor communication and delayed shipping.
Buying stuff has never been this fun.
