We reserved our SUV about 3 months in advance and when picking up our car... they had it! In this area and at this time that is a big first start. There was no line and they had the car and reservation all set. They gave an upgrade from a small SUV to a mid-size SUV. The person who was there was nice, not pushy about any coverage but did explain the options. Car had a full tank of gas, clean and ready to go! On return was able to park and just drop off the keys! Very easy. The only piece was that they did not review the car when I returned it. There was damage but I would have liked them to confirm that when I returned so no issues cropped up later on.
I reserved a mid size suv(intermediate suv) for our trip. I called a week before our trip to make sure that the car I reserved is available. I was told that it is. I called 4 days before our trip and same thing, I was told that the car is available. 2 days before the trip I was told that they do have a mid size suv reserved for me.We got to the counter and was given a compact suv.The lady at the counter said that’s the only thing she has— it’s red and it’s a sport trim. ( Well that’s not exactly what I was going for. Im all about comfort. We reserved the car for 11 days and comfort was our priority)We got to the lot and there were other suv obviously bigger than what we got.I reserved a mid size suv (intermediate suv) because we really needed the space. We have a chunky front facing carseat, 4 luggages, a stroller, and 2XL adult that were not happy to seat squished next to the carseat. My first time renting Alamo. What an experience. The car itself was not bad. It was clean but with a hint of smoke scent..
I had a great experience with a clean truck that meet my expectations. They should have additional people that can help when you check in but the weather was difficult at that time. Lots of snow but that is Alaska.
I was able to rent the large suv of my choice and when I needed to extend the contract, more than once, it was hassle free at both a local and national level.
Didnt have a single car available even though I had a reservation. Whats the point of making a reservation if you wont honor it!
They provided us with a car that was not winterized even though they said it was when we picked it up. They even gave us an extension cord. We didnt know what it meant and we realized it after 3 hours of driving. Customer Service was less than helpful about it when we called.I DO NOT RECOMMEND going through them
Alamo is by far the best car rental company Ive dealt with. No below the line scam fees or charges, they dont try to scam you with the fuel tank levels. Always for good cars, no cancer smell and often a free upgrade. Friends who travel for work agree.
Im a pretty loyal Avis customer. In Fairbanks the price difference was too large to be able to justify using Avis. My choice of Avis is largely due to any time I use a different company Budget, Thrifty, etc. I have a bad experience. I booked Alamo through Costco travel. This location is a joint National & Alamo venture. I found the people all quite friendly & helpful. I was upgraded to a larger car than I paid for which ended up being my choice of 4 vehicles. I chose the Jeep Patriot. The Jeep was fine & got relatively good gas mileage. It was pretty comfortable even for a long drive to Denali & back in one day.I interacted with 3 different people at the counter & each was so friendly & helpful.
Fairbanks, Alaska. Best rent a car experience I have ever had in my life. Staff was informative, easy going and they also offered a free upgrade.
Friendly staff, rental check out process is on point!
Alamo have always been good for us, although they do cost a bit more for that piece of mind.
Branch manager Ms. Jennifer ONeill and her staff go out of their way to make the car rental experience the least intrusive as possible. Whether the conditions are the long sunlight hours of summer or the deep cold of winter. If I have had any issues Ms. ONeill has rectified them as soon as possible. The rental cars are clean, service is fast, and her staff are always professional. The rates are excellent and lower than most other rental agencies. As a member of the Alamo insiders club there are special rates that can greatly reduce rental rates and this particular branch does an excellent job of honoring the insider special rates. I would strongly recommend using this branch if you are in Fairbanks.
Great experience. Good price, car was clean and fully functional. Quick to pickup and drop off - unlike the other rentals at FAI this one has two counter attendants which definitely kept the wait time under 5min
For such a small airport, we were surprised when we waited more than 30 minutes to pick up the car. There was only one person behind the desk and when it was our turn, she profusely apologized for the long wait. Apparently, there was a couple renting a car but didnt speak English (makes me wonder how they will obey traffic signs!) so it took her a long time to complete their reservation. Otherwise, the car was ready for us and we had no problems with the return (you have to return the keys inside)
Customer service was wonderful. They let us try out different cars until we found one that worked for us.
Terrible service. Still sitting here waiting. Only ones here, flight was late so car should have been ready but its been an hour already.
Disclaimer: Id like to make it perfectly clear from the start that the customer service at this Alamo location was absolutely stellar. In no way is my two-star rating or what I write next meant to disparage the good people I dealt with at the Fairbanks International Airport location.***The Chevy Impala I was assigned by Alamo had no snow tires, despite the fact that it was winter in Fairbanks, Alaska. I spent so much time skidding and sliding on the roads that I honestly became concerned for our safety.Let me be clear. I drive in snow and ice as a matter of routine in my hometown of Anchorage, Alaska. I know what Im doing. Driving the Impala was genuinely dangerous at times. Turning ensured that I would slide, often quite badly, no matter how cautious I was. Getting going again after stopping at traffic signals and stop signs was difficult and resulted in more sliding—once nearly sending us sliding off the road altogether—again, regardless of how cautious I was.Having experienced the poor control of the car, we decided that it wasnt advisable to attempt to drive any more than absolutely necessary. As a result, we were unable to do anything we visited Fairbanks for. Dogsled tours were too far out of the city to safely reach, as were snow machine tours. Chena Hot Springs was entirely out of the question.Dont get me wrong. Well be returning to Fairbanks, and if we visit in summer Ill consider Alamo. Theyll be farther down the list than they might otherwise have been, but Im not writing off the entire company for this error in judgement. However, the vehicle we were rented clearly had not been properly equipped for the environment. I certainly wont rent from Alamo again during winter, unless this issue gets addressed quite conspicuously.All-Season tires are perfectly acceptable in most of the Lower 48 states. They are entirely inadequate for winter in Alaska. Driving without them is dangerous.Update: I responded, as requested by the company in the reply below, and was informed that snow tires are not required by law. Alamo also offered me a voucher for two free days of rental time, which I have declined since I dont feel safer simply because Im not paying. After I mentioned that such a response seemed more like a brush-off, Alamos correspondence became more curt even as the customer support representative continued explaining that the company isnt required to offer snow tires. As a result, I have lowered my rating from two stars to one.
Be careful hitting charge they charged my jump start ....on phone they say its cover with my rental when I return at counter they include charge $55.00 unprofessional service.
Average car rental experience. What I was not satisfied with was that the car was not in very clean condition. There was a lot of easily noticeable dust in the car, making the drive not quite comfortable.
The first vehicle we were given had an electrical problem (no power to the lighter plug), preventing me from using my GPS. After a quick exchange, which entailed going back into the terminal from the parking lot to return one set of keys for the keys to another vehicle, we got started. However, the windshield, on the inside was so dirty (I know the difference between condensation and a milky film of accumulated dirt which I had to clean off), it was hazardous driving, especially at night. Also, from the time we got into the car, there was a warning light for low pressure in one of the tires. The only reason i am not giving this rental experience zero stars is because of the Alamo counter personnel.
Service is good and the car worked fine. I had zero issues and they also helped with directions.
Will not rent to locals without credit only card and proof of unrelated bills been paid. Hugely inconvenient and absurd. Horrible customer service.
Staff are always efficient and friendly, car was clean and dependable.
Convient but car was dirty and had no window washing fluid in the buggiest state in the Union.... also have a lot of fees the like to bring out...
Flew to fairbanks just for the day and needed a car. Alamo didnt have a full size available so gave me a free upgrade to a suv. very friendly and courteous at the counter, car was perfect and only a 1 minute walk from the counter.
Very friendly, professional staff at late night arrival and check in at return to FAI. Car, Jeep Patriot was perfect for our explorations around Fairbanks. We look forward to returning some day.
Very good experience, efficient, personable.
Very friendly staff. Car did not have a full tank of gas when picked up.
Got a great rate without alot of headache
Did not have what I needed and they could have been a little more friendlier and professional.
Nice clean vehicle and good customer service.
Great folks to work with.
Worst rental car experience in a long time thanks to an incompetent manager
Need a car? They have some
Really pleased with Alamo. I had the roadside assistance, and when I got a flat tire, they towed a new vehicle out for me!
I couldnt add my rental to my Alamo loyalty account retroactively according to Alamo corporate. This is opposite what the attendant told me when I picked up the car.
Great experience
