The shop was very helpful. They fixed a old land rover freelander I bought for my daughter. I didnt want to spend a lot on the car, as I needed to keep the overall cost down. They communicated all the needs and were very up front with what was needed, why, and what I needed to do and not do. They were very patient with me, and I am a mechanically minded person, so Im the person shops dont like to deal with ๐. I would definitely take a car back to them, the work was done well, and more importantly the way they communicated was calm thorough, and detailed.Thank You Rich and Team!
Ran into Tyler one of the employees as the shop was closing. He was able to take some extra time off the clock and help me get back on the road. Definitely good people, quality service, and top notch work. Would not hesitate to take my vanagon to them again.
I drove into richs garage unannounced with my BMW and he stopped what he was doing to help me, hes just a great guy and thoroughly checked my vehicle and gave a really reasonable quote, barely charged anything for the inspection. As a young female driving into an auto repair you feel like you might be an easy target but this was not the case at Richs and I was treated really well.
I brought my vehicle into Richs to get some work done, I was very satisfied with the work that was done and they also found more work that needed to be done thanks for fixing it now before i ended up broke down on the side of the road. I have brought my vehicle here before and have never had any problems. appreciated and dependable, thanks Rich!
A few summers ago, my Subaru overheated, basically melting my engine, in California, on my way back to Eugene from a trip to the Napa wine country. After mechanics in Mendocino told me my car was only good for scrapping, Rich not only advised and helped me get my car towed back, but assisted in finding me an excellent engine from a wrecking yard here in Lane County. They put the used engine in my car, for a very reasonable price, and it has worked PERFECTLY ever since! Thank you, Richs German Motorwerks, you are the BEST!!!
If I could give negative stars I would. They were the worst shop I have ever been too. They failed to do basic troubleshooting before making expensive unneeded repairs, performed work not authorized, reused old parts and claimed they were new. Ran the vehicle without coolant and have it back to me after two weeks running worse than when I brought it in. The mechanic and the owner would tell me one thing then something completely different later. They didnt even plug into the vehicle computer until I complained about the lack of basic troubleshooting and after presenting me with a bill of over one thousand dollars. They treated me like I knew nothing about vehicles even though I have been working on and maintaining my own vehicles for 30 years and am an avid off-roader where you need to be able to do most repairs yourself on the trail. They failed repeatedly to listen to me, often asking the same question, such as how long Ive owned the vehicle, several times in the same conversation.I requested they save and show me old parts and they could not produce any of them.I had to stop them from grounding the battery directly to the alternator and turning my vehicle into an arc welder. These people are in my opinion nothing more than thieves and liars. I would recommend having somebody you just pick up on the street work on your vehicle even if they dont know what they are doing rather than let these guys touch your vehicle.
Went here a number of years ago and was my all time worst experience regarding an auto mechanic. Great breakdown on the bill for the service but the time it took for them to do simple tune up operations was beyond ridiculous. Taking my time I with a beer on a lazy afternoon doing the same work would be an eighth to a quarter of the time it took them. Watching them working revealed them spending time a little on this car then a little on that car. In other words they did not spend the billed time they reported on my car, but were billing an hour for each car they touched during that hour when they were really spending a small fraction on my rig.**Reply to the owner: That makes no sense. The bill you provided was broken down by time spent on every operation performed on the car. Those hourly figures were totaled and that was the labor billed. If you dont bill by time for labor then what was all that about? BS!
At first I thought thus was a great place, the owner said I could pay after as long as I posted good reviews on here Facebook & yelp & my title would be held, & strange they only had bad reviews previously? I told them to make sure I didnt have a Crack in the engine or blown head gasket & if so dont go any further. I got a call saying it was fine and they just wanted to fix several things so I told them just fix what needs to be done so I can drive it,so the bill climbed and when I got there I was told there actually was a Crack in the engine and more work had been performed which was pointless on an obviously totalled car, seriously? The owner told me the man who called to let me know there was no problem besides the several more things he wanted to fix didnt know better, so i guess that made it ok.....I had no choice but to let them keep my car.
I brought my volkswagon jetta here to have my automatic transmission swapped with a 5 speed manual transmission. They did a great job on it, it drives amazing & feels like it just came out of the factory! Couldnt be happier. Thanks Jerry!
More than SatisfiedI recently bought a Mercedes Benz C-Class and took it into Richs to have it thouroughly checked out. They suggested a tune up and said that they would check on a leak I noticed in the engine. Upon examination they said that a tune up was not needed and diagnosed where the leak was coming from. They called me PRIOR to doing any work, they actually drove the car to make any determinations (something my last mechanic never did) and gave me a printed detailed estimate to have the leak fixed and charged me a very small amount for inspecting my Mercedes..I am planning on taking my car back to Richs German Motorworks to get the further quoted work done and also my Volkswagen Cabrio.I now feel satisfied that i made a good decision on purchasing this used car and would recomend anyone purchasing a used car from a private party or a dealership to have the vehicalchecked out first at Richs German Motorworks first so you can make an solid informed decision.
2014 Update: Still satisfied. All work Ive had done at Richs was done right and has held up over many miles. Rich and staff continue to be knowledgeable about all aspects of my 89 Vanagon.Ive known of Richs reputation for quality work on VWs for years. So when I bought a neglected Vanagon Westfalia camper I took it to Rich to turn it into a reliable daily driver. Im satisfied with all of their work. Richs always uses quality German parts and pays attention to details. But most importantly, I completely trust Richs to not BS me on what needs to be done. This shop doesnt need to oversell you - theyre always busy and they dont spend money on furniture for the lobby or slick advertising.FYI, items Ive had fixed or installed at Richs on my VW include: A/C system, alternator, shocks, wheel bearings, brakes, power windows, pop-top canvas, antenna, LPG valve, the clutch master cylinder, radiator, and head gaskets. Richs has gone the extra mile to find the right parts at a fair price.
Very good shop, knowlegdeable and very helpfull. They took care of my car like it was there own. Very friendly staff that took care of what I asked them too and even found a few more things my car needed I would recomend this shop too anyone with a VW or german car.
Honest good mechanics.
Bad customer service and my dad had some machine work done on some vw cylinder heads a number of years ago and the shaving were not cleaned out.
