We were selling a car with low mileage and not a scratch on it. We were taken immediately To an efficient and polite young woman who took some information and Car keys. We were brought to a Waiting room which was 75% occupied. We were told an inspector would go over our car and it would take about an hour.At approximately that time, she returned and told us our car was acceptable and showed us into the business area. A polite and professional young man told us the business aspect of our visit would take about an hour and 1/2.An hour and 28 minutes later, a woman from the business office took us into another room with dividers between each interview area. She was very personable and answered all of our questions very well. We signed numerous papers and left with an adequate bank draft. We were both very impressed with our first visit to Carmax.

Let me start by saying that I gave 4 stars only because their inventory on what I was looking for is very low. There were only 3 options available for what I wanted. However, the customer service from Nick R. was exceptional. He didnt rush me and was very patient with my indecisiveness. He took the time to show me vehicles that were able to be shipped from another store. He was kind, spoke about his family and stayed with me throughout the entire process. I highly recommend Nick as a sales consultant, if youre in the market for a new vehicle.Annette in finance was also very helpful. She was friendly and efficient. She properly read through the documentation and provided copies for my review.Lastly, My only negative is that the car was dirty. The previous owner must’ve had a pet. It was covered in hair. Plus, needed a inside detail. Most dealerships wash & clean the car before sending it with the customer.
Hassle free car shopping. Went in wanting to look at the trucks in stock, was pointed in the direction of the trucks and was able to look at what they had with out any pushy sales person bothering me.The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. They made sure I got the truck I wanted and was satisfied with my purchase. I will definitely go back to look for my next vehicle and highly recommend to friends and family.
Lets see where do I start.... they drove my car 5 miles, adjusted the seat and rear view mirror...they put on the appraisal form there were scratches on the hood of the car.....I washed the car before I came in dry the the whole car and wiped off smudges. I did a full inspection of the car before I brought it to carmax. I notice this scratch on the hood when I came home.... wth..
Excellent. Justin was patient with us. He was thorough and very helpful in making sure that the car we came to see was, in fact, the car for us. He allowed us to walk away - no guilt - and then we returned to buy the car the next day, after discussing overnight, without feeling pressured. All the financing was done online and with a phone call to confirm - no hassle. By the time we returned to the lot, all we had to do was sign paperwork and pick up the car! We are very happy with our decision - and very happy with our car!
1 month ago they gave me a much better price for my car so was not happy with what I got. Secondly, they took over 3 hrs to get my transaction completed from estimate to get a check.Last, I was told there is no competitor match guaranteed? What gives? If I wasnt pressed for time I would have gone with Autionation who offered me more money for my car.

Arrival and inspection were smooth, but then they provided me an offer on a different version (non-performance) of my vehicle, which is six to eight thousands dollars less valuable. When I notified them, they went back to their computer, then came back a few minutes later, saying my value was the same, since it was the same battery size. Needless to say they arent getting my business, and as someone who is in the auto industry, I will steer people away from CarMax, especially the Escondido location.
My husband had been thinking about selling his 2019 RAM 1500, we had been told to check out CarMax. My husband went online filled out the car buying form on CarMax and answered all the questions best we could and we were given a great price that CarMax would buy our vehicle for. I honestly assumed once we got there that CarMax would talk you down or hardly give you what was quoted but THEY GAVE US EXACTLY WHAT WAS QUOTED, NOTHING LESS!!!!! Best, easiest experience EVER!!

Great customer service. If you dont like to negotiate for cars this is the best place to go. Unfortunately I like to find the best deal and negotiate plus I never buy extended warranties. But this time they had a really good car for a reasonable price, gave me a fair trade in offer and the extended warranty was not that expensive and I can use it for 5 years on any major part in the car. And if you dont like the car within 30 days you can return it. Most dealerships you have to pay extra for this.
Great easy and efficient buying process. I highly recommend you have your mechanic check the car that you buy in that first 30 day window they give you. My car had easily fixed issues and I have it at the shop now.
I got a quote from CarMax online to buy out my leased luxury car. The number was more than 2 other dealers were offering. One of those dealers was the dealer I leased the car from! And higher than KBB was offering. The time was right due to the positive equity I had in it. No BS, no bait and switch, no changing the offer like the other dealers did. They validated all the information I filled out online and cut me a check! I dont always go through CarMax to sell vehicles but in this case it was the best and quickest way to go.

I had an oil change done. I was quoted an hour and a half, but to my surprise it was done in 45 minutes. It was a full synthetic product and it was about half the price of Jiffy Lube.Im a happy customer.
I purchased a car from this location. Not the experience I was hoping for with CarMax. It was an extremely busy day, however they were not organized. From not being able to determine if a car is actually available for purchase, to not providing up to date waiting times. We went to eat because we were told we had 45 min-1 hr before signing, they could have called us when our turn was up, instead, we had to wait an additional 45 minutes because they skipped us. The car was not cleaned like it was promised.
Percy was super helpful and efficient. I had to bring my two kids under 4 to test out how both car seats would fit. He was very helpful and patient with that chaos. He made the paperwork go quickly and smoothly.

I did not have a good experience with Carmax. The process was so long to buy a car. They messed up the contact so I had to go back and it was a long process. I just purchased the vehicle 1 month ago and yesterday it started overheating already. I had to take the car in so they could fix it. I thought there was a thorough checklist done before selling the vehicle that everything is functioning properly but obviously that was not the case with me.
The staff was very helpful, friendly, and very efficient. They gave me a great price on my truck and I walked away very satisfied. I dont leave reviews often but Carmax deserved a good one. Thank you Ashley!!

No hassle and stress free. And the most important part is that the price is right. The trade-in from dealer is too low. Ive posted my car on Auto Trader, but it will take time to reach the potential buyers. However, private party selling is stressful since you dont know who youre dealing with. Car Max got me a quote through Edmund Website. And that is within the price that I am willing to settle for my private party selling.
Absolute worst place to buy a car. They took my $ for a vehicle transfer, cancelled my transfer (after I paid), then sold my vehicle to another customer. Could not give me a reason for the cancellation. Hung up on me when I called, asking why they sold my vehicle to another customer.

My experience at Carmax has always been excellent. I recently sold a car. It has a few scratches and had not been perfectly cared for in regard to the interior. They offered a great price and from the price being honored to the lovely young woman who transferred the title and gave me my check, the experience was easy and NOT stressful.

Had some rattling/vibrations coming from the engine and brought my car in for service. Rick Stokes was assigned my case. I asked specifically for updates at every stage of the process(when the parts came in, when they started the work, eta, etc) Rick obliged no problem. I asked for all status updates via text, Rick obliged no problem. After the repairs have been made, the car drives great 👍. If you are bringing your car in for service or for post purchase repairs, ask for Rick.

This was a great experience. When i went in i had just a couple goals.1. Find a gas saving 5 door I can use for my photography business.2. Get a good deal that fit into my budget.I test drove several cars and found one I liked. Wrapped up the deal. I was stoked. Well the car had a few issues after the first couple days. I talked to a manager and I decided to return the vehicle and get a different one. They say things happen for a reason. I found the perfect car for me. While our sales associate, Rachel, was great, fantastic even, the administrative side of our car buying experience was awful. We had to come back after getting nothing accomplished in 5 hours one day. They were short staffed or just packed and it led to a pretty terrible waiting experience with little to no customer service during our wait.

Worst experience ever. I was hoping to buy a car and the girl who helped me name Raquel made me wait 2 hours. It looked like she didn’t want to work she kept walking back and worth ignoring me acting like if I wasn’t their. I ended up walking out because of the bad service. Extremely fast and easy, car ended up back in the shop there 2 times in the first month though. I understand things happen, but the customer service has been absolutely amazing the whole time. That’s why I’m giving 5 stars. Mad the car messed up, mad it happened 2 times, but they were fast, didn’t try to jump around the issues, and got 1/2 fixed so far with no problems. Highly recommend the team there, but definitely maybe bring a mechanic.

When we first went into carmax it was a struggle I was in california and my dad was in michigan, he wS my cosigner. They tried to tell us he had to be out there to do the signing which wasnt possible...after I started to get frustrated then they said oh well we can get you paper work and you can have him fill it out and mail back. So we said okay...then went to the next person to find a car she tried to tell us we couldnt do that that he had to be there...after we told her we were just told different she went and checked then came back saying it was fine. Nobody really seemed to know exactly what they were doing....then we had to spend over 30 bucks to have the paperwork overnighter and my dad had to pay to overnight it back. They had forgotten to mark a spot he was suppised to sign so they had to send it to him again. Finally we were able to get a car. The last guy that helped us was actually good and seemed to know what he was doing. And its nice that they offer maxcare. They just need to get their ducks in a row so they dont do so much back and forth on their information.

Quite possibly the easiest car buying experience I have ever experienced. They transferred a truck from another lot for me within 24 hours of the request and made the entire process stress free and quick for me. The trade in process was pretty smooth as well. I started on-line and sent specific pictures and ended up getting a higher offer from Car Max than I did at other dealerships. I could have made a little more with a private party sale but it wasnt worth the hassle for me.
Great service! I went there for my car valuation. They took my details and asked me to wait by car with all doors open, windows down and hood up. After 15 min. one gentleman came and asked me to turn on engine. It took 5 minutes for him then I was offered to wait for 30-40 minutes for paper quotation or get quote over email. I left and got the quote over email in 30 minutes. Quote was not bad!
Great customer service! I went in to get a quote for trading in my car. Service was fast, everyone I spoke to was extremely polite are kind and knew what they were doing. I ultimately did not do any business with them, but it was a very positive experience.
Terrible service. Went in for a re-appraisal .. After 2 hours they came back with a much lower offer. Questioned why and the guy went for lunch and left me without any notice. While he said he would look into it. Not going

I had heard the stories about how easy it was to sell a car through CarMax, and I thought, that just cant be true; but, it was true. It was a very seamless and easy experience, made more so by very nice people.
This had to be the worst experience Ive ever had with a car dealership, and Ive had a few over the years. I drove 100 miles to test drive BMW M240i, the car I was looking for and had already decided I will buy. I WAS SOLD before I even got there....I was ready to buy and it was done deal as far as I was concerned.......and yet somehow CarMax managed to make it impossible for me to make a deal and buy the car, so I had to drive back another 100 miles and completely waste my whole Saturday because of the complete lack of transparency and an incompetent sale associate. What Ive learned the hard way is that CarMax will low ball you for your trade-in and offer you only the cash price, regardless of whether you are selling them the car or you are trading it in. Usually a trade-in is higher because you are also buying from them. While I understand they can do whatever they want with their business, I wish they were more transparent with their policy upfront, especially after I asked specifically number of times about the trade-in, so I didnt have to waste my time. The sale associate assured me at the beginning they will work with me but when the time came for us to make the deal, I wasnt given any choice but to accept their low ball cash offer even though I was trading-in. So I walked and I wonder, how many ready to buy customers walk away every day from a deal they are ready to make, and how much $$$ that translates in lost revenue due to the lack of transparency. I called and spoke wit PJ in their customer relations and I got the standard oh I am so sorry....lol ...Please at least make an attempt to remedy the situation by offering a solution. This is what a good business would do. But your sorry will change nothing and your bad reputation will continue to grow as I am clearly not the only unsatisfied customer with CarMax judging by all the negative reviews on line.BE AWARETrade-In=Cash Price=CarMax=👎🏻

I will never sell another vehicle myself and frankly I have put a sticky note on a few vehicles being sold on the streets to go to carmax.com!

First I want to say the negative reviews seem to come from a lack of understanding and preparation in a car buying procesa and are blaming the dealer for that. I feel most of what Ive read they would have the same experience at any dealer they went to.Now, my opinion. I worked in automotive for 12 almost 13 years. Specifically on the auto auction side where I worked with many car dealers. Lets say I finally had enough and changed career paths to get away from the industry. So I tend to go to dealerships a bit jaded.How ever, buying a car at CarMax is incredibly easy. They make it fully transparent from the loan process, who approved you, rates, terms, and what is or isnt doable. They have a nice selection on and off site of cars to choose from. The staff is always helpful and nice. Trisha Soderstra my sales rep was absolutely amazing and on top of it. She was one step a head of everyone else though the process which made it quick and seamless.Yes there was a wait, they are incredibly busy. Yes the process takes a while. Even though I had pre-approval, knew my car, and was ready with all documents the process still took a while to get though. Its expected that buying a car is a long process.With the hundreds of car dealers Ive worked with I can honestly say I wont purchase a used car from anyone else other then carmax, they never try to up-sale or pressure you into things you dont want or cant afford. They worst part of a dealership is all the nonsense extended warranty and extra coverages they make you suffer though to try and increase their sales. Carmax is hands down the most transparent and easiest auto company to work with.
Ive used their services several times. I sold 6 cars to them over the last couple years. I have not bought a car through them yet so I cant comment on that. But selling is a very convenient process. You schedule an appointment to get an appraisal. This can take from 20-60 minutes. If you walk on, expect to wait at least an hour. They get busy. They give you a written appraisal, good for 7 days. You can shop it around, as I did last time (the dealer matched the price). Otherwise, bring the car in with your appraisal and you will be out of there within an hour. Check in hand or loan paid off. No DMV. They take care of all that. Yes you can get a better price if you sell it yourself but you cant beat the convenience of selling to them. Much better than trading it in to a dealer. I will continue to use them.
Overall satisfied with my 2017 Chevy Volt purchased from Carmax Escondido. My issue is that I came to the dealership with financing for the vehicle already squared away with USAA. I told the sales rep numerous times that I already had financing approved through USAA, but he still asked for my SSN and ran my credit for Carmax financing. When I finally got to the checkout window, I told the lady and showed her all of my paperwork from USAA, and she was shocked and almost embarrassed that the sales rep still ran my credit and tried running me through Carmax financing. This was especially annoying since my family is in the process for searching for a home in San Diego and any credit inquiry hurts my FICO score. Now this unnecessary credit inquiry is on my file for years due to a salesperson trying to make some additional commission.

Disappointing follow through after a very pleasant beginning. If there is something “imperfect” on the car you purchase (non safety) please get it resolved before you drive home. Carmax’s standard for perfection is sorely absent. Our salesman was outstanding, Chris Garcia, Escondido location, kind, patient, thoughtful. Sadly enough you have to wait four hours to get an appraisal on a vehicle they stated you have to wait to get an appraisal on a vehicle youre going to sell without knowing they raited the car at a higher amount just because used cars are in demand I would advise sell your vehicle on your own.
Don’t expect them to care about customer service after you bought your car. Anothrr bank gave me better terms so wanted to transfer my loan and the new bank couldn’t get a hold of anyone. I only had 3 days to do this after the car was purchased. Then, I tried to cancel my MaxCare policy and was on hold for almost an hour the 3 times I called. . Never got to speak to anyone. I tried contacting Rosie at the Escondido office, the person who sold me the car. She didn’t reply to repeated messages. Then when she finally did she said she’d look into it and I never heard back. Theses are typical used care salespeople. Buyer beware.

Appointment to obtain a quote was scheduled easily online. I was helped within 10 minutes of showing up at Carmax. The quote was at the high end of my car value. I returned within 5 days to finish the transaction and received a check within an hour. The whole process was painless. I would highly recommend Carmax and use it again.

Sold our 20 year old car last weekend. Super easy process that took about half an hour for the appraisal and then another hour and a half to be finalized. Very happy with the offer which was more than we were expecting. Everyone was very friendly through the whole process and it was so easy. They handled the paperwork so that all we had to do was sign the final paperwork.
