Coming from out of town we looked for the rating and the atmosphere. Place is very nice inside and beautiful outside. Our server was very nice. She was training so I am hoping she gets some pointer on promptness. Again she was very nice but tables that sat after us got food and bills way before we did. Which might not be her fault at all. The food was very salty. I ordered the chicken sandwich with truffle fries which I thought would be something fancy. It was a 3 dollar up charge for a small dipping container of truffle sauce. The chicken looked amazing in my sandwich but was way over seasoned. I could not finish it. The fries were also very salty. I had a cucumber melon Moscow mule and it was amazing. One of the best Ive ever had.

Returning from really good dining experience at Black River Tavern at Valley of the Eagles Golf facility in Elyria. Our first experience here but certainly not our last. The hostess greeted us warmly and with a smile and appeared pleased that we were there. Our young waiter appeared quickly and was very pleasant and helpful explaining the menu and attending to our needs. The menu was full of excellent suggestions and we ordered the short ribs with mashed potatoes and red cabbage and a half rack of smoked ribs. As an appetizer we had a unique Lobster topped Tots. Tater Tots smothered in good size pieces of lobster with a creamy bisque type sauce and grilled bacon bits. Delicious and almost a meal unto itselfOur entrees were well presented and of significant portion as to bring home tomorrow’s dinner. Both meals were excellent. The only regret we had was too little room to have dessert.This is a big cut above typical golf grill rooms or compact restaurants. Very cozy atmosphere and super clean. Pricing was below what you would expect with a range of $17-$23 dollars and certainly the portions are bigger then what we’ve come to expect. A terrific experience and worth your time.As we were about to leave a significant rain began. Noticing we were pacing at the door and wondering when the rain would stop a host near the bar area offered to walk each of us to my car under a large umbrella. An extra measure of courtesy and class. We’re definitely going to frequent this great restaurant.

Hidden gem. Ive not had the pleasure of golfing here, and I was looking for a quiet spot for lunch. This place was perfect. Great view, great food, excellent service. Will absolutely be back

The food was wonderful! However the service was extremely lacking. We had a 1pm reservation for my father-in-laws birthday, we were sat at a dirty table…without menus. So after about 5-10 minutes my husband asked for a towel at the bar. He wiped the table. Then we sat a bit longer…no drinks or utensils, or server. After about 15min total of sitting, the server came to take our drink order. Drinks took several minutes. We ordered an appetizer that we didn’t receive until about 1:35….and still no utensils or napkins. I went to the bar and requested some. Food came and was good. I saw the manager and let her know (politely) how the lunch was going. She didn’t come to the table to apologize, take a dollar off, or offer a Desert for the birthday. Don’t think we’ll be going back, as we’ve had much better service elsewhere.

We were served not once but twice raw shrimp. Then they brought it out a third time. Stapled and packed in a to go box. As I was curious to why it was stapled. It was burnt to a crisp. Not a very nice gesture. Hey cook whoever you are. Not my fault you dont know how to cook shrimp. We will never go back again anyway. Assuming that was the point intended.

The Jack Nicklaus revised course is fabulous and the food is amazing!Great burgers, they cook it medium rare which means never frozen

Where should I begin. Horrible service, food, atmosphere. Took over an hour for water, another 45min for the food it was burned (Brussel sprouts) not sure why they presented it like it was appealing. Internet was out took my friends credit cards and copied without approval then charged them twice. Like wth?? I wouldnt recommend anyone going there. Manager and owner acted less then concerned claimed the food was on the house from all the issues. Yea right.

Love the beautiful view, my favorite menus items are fire cracker shrimp, crab sliders, and chicken BLT salad. The waiting time is within a normal range. I don’t understand the people leaving 2 star reviews saying like the food but hate to wait. High quality tavern food takes time! Considering all industries is significantly understaffed during covid, and restaurant got hit the most. It’s the time to show your sympathy (unless you don’t have any) and be less critic just for once. Will defiantly come back.

Firecracker shrimp was raw all 3 times. Lobster bisque was nothing more than a quagulated bowl of cream and cheese. Nasty.The steak was done perfect and the service needs improvement. Our waitress was good but left us needing things. All in all dont think we can visit again

We attended a wedding there. It was our first time at this venue. Loved it! The ceremony was held outside overlooking the beautiful greens and the river, in front of the trellis. Breath-taking surrounding, especially with the setting sun! The sound system was excellent! A cocktail hour followed on the patio, which was lovely. The only suggestion I would make is to have several bar tenders for the initial onslaught. Dinner was inside. Loved the space! Bathrooms were clean and roomy. Loved the bar area! Beautiful natural edge wood tables! Spacious! Had a front balcony/porch area. Again, only suggestion for management is to keep the windows clean. The venue was so pretty, the streaked, dirty windows was a detraction in the pictures 😒. Overall, I would use this venue for my own events!

Lovely decor made from trees removed from this famed historic property that the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman has visited on multiple occasions throughout the years. Great nightly specials. Must try: Lobster Bisque, best in the area. Seasonal menu change is a nice touch, great use of local ingredients. Compliments to the chef. Not to mention food and beverage service while indoor golfing on a simulator.

First visit to the Nlack River Tavern yesterday evening. The tables are made from trees cut down as part of the golf course renovation.The Italian hoagie was great. My some had the oven fired pizza.

Ordered through doordash. Food arrived hot and the chicken sandwich I got was amazing. Best sandwich I’ve had in quite awhile. Also went there for dinner and got the steak. That was also extremely good. Highly recommend.

Took our aunt there for a birthday lunch and everything was fantastic! From the staff to the food the quality was excellent!!

Please, I encourage everyone to check this restaurant out and support your local business! Do not be discouraged by the construction that has been going around that neighborhood near the golf course. My sandwich was juicy, tasty, and very filling. The decor is very nice, and the staff are friendly.

The food is phenomenal best fries and sandwiches in Lorain county and the maple bacon sprouts simply amazing.

Went in and got a Full rack of Ribs to-go. The ribs were very tough and undercooked and drenched in sauce to cover it up. Hard to find good BBQ up here figured Id give this place a try but was definitely let down.

Service was slow at first then got a bit better.The chicken macaroni was delicious and wethe perch dinner was good but the breading was very heavy and didnt let the true flavors of the perch shine too much which is a shame because the fillets were pretty large.Pricing was reaonable for the amount of food you get though. For the chicken macaroni you got 3 good sized pieces of chicken (probably about half a breast) on top of the macaroni and the perch dinner had 4 large pieces of perch on top a pretty large pile of sidewinder fries.

Lobster bisque was delish. So was the wedge salad.

They have the most painfully slow service out of any restaurant you could ever imagine. Think 20min for a water. 30min for a beer. We have tried twice. Same story. Never tried the food because we never have 4hrs reserved for lunch.

What a nice place this is! Tucked in a charming valley where it shares its beautiful surroundings with an equally nice golf course. Its menu is nicely diversified that guests will have no problem finding something to tempt their taste buds. The salad I had was like a showpiece on a triangular plate, and on this particular day I added two appetizers to make up my meal along with the salad. One was the sauteed shrimp which was absolutely delicious, and the other was the fried brussel sprouts with an incredible sauce and crumbled bacon on it. I can pretty much guarantee you wont be turning your nose up at brussel sprouts anymore once you taste these, they were incredible! But what stuck in my mind the most was the gorgeous variations of the wood that youll see making up the walls and the booths as well as the bars. When trees were being cleared in order to create the golf course, all the wood was saved and repurposed in an absolutely beautiful way throughout the restaurant. Whatever the season is, this is a lovely place to visit with or without your golf clubs, but definitely with an appetite. You wont be disappointed.

Dinner was good, service was excellent. The problem is that when I pay 14 bucks for a sandwich and chips, it should be a really freakin good sandwich. It was just good. I cant complain about it, but the price point on the food is a little high. The atmosphere and the ambiance was very cool. I would recommend this place. It is worth visiting at least once. We were missing figs from a take out prosciutto and fig salad which is disappointing, but it was still good.

Ordered a pepperoni pizza and bacon and an assortment of cookies two each of three different kinds. Received a bacon pizza with no pepperoni and six cookies of one kind. Mind you the extra item on the pizza to make it bacon and pepperoni was an additional $3 and the six pack of cookies was $6 and and I got it because of the variety for me and my wife to share. The cookies are burnt but not done and the pizza is severely burned. Call the phone number for wicked slice Pizza it was disconnected. Called the number for Black River tavern and I get thank you for calling the valley of the eaglesand then it proceeds to hang up on me.One star review all around I will never be buying food from here again thank you

Ordered 2 Cowboy burgers and was very pleased. The French fries were very good too. The bacon on the burger was the best part of the whole plate.

The food here is impeccable and spot on in taste! It is so fresh and such a breathtaking experience of Summer!!! The chef absolutely takes pride in his dishes and it shows in presentation and flavor! Ive ordered the Croquen Bouche and other dishes and have not been disappointed!!

This is definately one of the best places to dine in elyria. Great atmosphere & staff. The decor is made from wood found from the course when it underwent renovations a couple years ago. Most of the wood and brick was reclaimed from the golf course. Its absolutely awesome. Great place for groups as well. Apparently they plan to expand the Upstairs to a pier w fine dining type of place. Stay tuned....

My wife and I had a great experience for dinner at Black River Tavern. It was our first time there. The atmosphere on the outside patio and the food was great and reasonably priced. Our waitress (Dana) was also fantastic. We will absolutely be returning and tell others about our experience.

Black River Tavern is very nice. We took the family here tonight for dinner and ate our fill of delicious burgers and the best spiral fries ever. They are thick and very potato-y.The Tavern is in the clubhouse of the Valley of the Eagles golf course, so you could sit outside and watch golf, but we sat inside and watched it on the TV at our table. Very classy.The server was very nice and helpful in ordering, which we greatly appreciated.

Excellent food in a beautiful atmosphere. Prompt service; attentive without being intrusive. The burgers are becoming well known, and I had an very good martini.

The service is always great, theyre all nice people who work here. The food is outstanding at a reasonable price. The ranch and honey mustard are the best Ive had at any restaurant. Burgers and steaks are cooked perfectly. Appetizer, three entrees, and one drink came to about 70 dollars before tip.

The food was fantastic, but getting in is terrible! The handicap parking is so far from the door that unless you are in a wheel chair the walk is bad.

Location is amazing I will give you that. The food on the other hand not so much. I was so excited to try the food too! I think this could be a great menu if they stuck with tavern food. We did not have great food at this location. Stick with the bar food not the specialty items they are trying and you should be fine. Gourmet prices and not so gourmet food.

5 star all around. Our sandwiches were AMAZING. The ranch dressing... best I’ve ever had. Fries...best I’ve ever had. Didn’t have flavored lemonade so they made one, and it was better then most. Servers were super. Our only complaints were we didn’t leave any room for deserts! Will drive an hour for it again any day!

This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in North America. A lovely vista, warm breezes, personable staff (the chef came out and shared a recipe with us) and yes, great food. I wish I lived in the area for this restaurant alone. Mind you, I think I would have more of the cocktail that the waitress recommended than would be strictly good for me.

Today we looked forward to coming for lunch. We liked the dining area by the bar. We were disappointed with the service. Once we got our meal, server never came back to ask how everything was or refill our drinks . I was disappointed with the chicken salad sandwich and felt the crossaint was old. We told the server and she said we should have ordered from brunch menu .I feel no matter what we order should be addressed and fixed but we couldnt since server never came back but to ask us how to ring the bill. We did enjoy the French fries . Im not sure about returning.

This place has a very good kitchen. I like the food and havent been disappointed yet. I am a huge fan of the cheesesteak, the truffle fries, and the pizzas (I go with meatballs). Very good food! Bar service is some of the slowest Ive ever seen, though, so order drinks asap.

We went to Black River Tavern which is at Eagle Valley, formerly Spring Valley Country Club. Plenty of seating & bar area. Outdoor seating too. The menu switches some things season to season. The Elyria Apple Salad is wonderful! Spinach, mushrooms, cured bacon served warm--but cheese & Granny Smith apples garnishing it!They do have a cozy Beet salad with pumpkin seeds, etc that sounds great!Menu has all kinds of tasty offerings. Many delicious desserts as well. Staff is terrific & friendly! We plan to stop there alot in the future!

This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! The food was so good I want to go back soon with friends! I got the pork chop that is cut fresh in house! It was huge too! My husband got the burger with egg on it...it was so fresh! The restaurant is beautiful and sevice was great!!!

I live close and have been waiting for the Black River Tavern to open. I was not disappointed with the service or the food. I was there for lunch and had a burger and beer. The burger was well prepared and very tasty. The beer selection while not extensive has a good variety. I will return and look forward to the opening of the outdoor area where the pool was at Spring Valley, this should be great in the summer. Well worth checking out.

This restaurant surprised me. I figured typical bar food at the golf course pub... to my surprise the food is fantastic!! Great menu, great food, great atmosphere. I highly recommend even if you don’t golf.

Very Slow and Forgetful Service.Wife and I went for lunch today. The décor is interesting and a welcomed change from the old setup. The food was good, however the service was bad. The restaurant didnt seem that busy since there were a lot of vacant tables but the waitress took a long time before coming for drink order. Then a long time before drinks got here. We then ordered and it seemed forever before our meal got there. When the waitress took our order we asked if the TV at the table could have a channel change and she said no problem, but only changed the channel when she brought our food and said she had forgotten about the channel change. Food was good and well prepared. Not sure if we had a bad waitress or they were way understaffed.

Very nice place. Although Ive lived the majority of my life in Elyria, this was my first time visitiing the Black River Tavern. It was a very pleasant experience.The departmental Christmas dinner was held here; therefore, I did not see the check total, so I cannot comment on the prices.The dishes were unique and delicious though! I had the Black River Tavern burger with house smoked bacon which was very good. Most will need to use a fork and knife to eat this one!! The fries were served in their own basket and very tasty.

Working for door dash and Wednesday after the big snow storm I went in to pick up an order slipped fell flat on my face . Was like sheet of ice . Went in told the waitress they need to get someone out there to salt and they didn’t even seem to care . Didn’t even ask if I was alright . They literally just looked at me like deer in head lights and walked away .
