Dropped off two landscape tools for repair. After 4 weeks of not hearing anything I called to get an update. No one answered the phone or returned my calls. After another week I stopped by the shop. They were rude and told me that my stuff wasnt there and that someone must have taken it home to work on it. I asked them to call me with an update the next day. After 2 more days of not hearing anything I went back and continued to get the run around. Finally I asked for my stuff back to bring it somewhere else. I was told it would be in the shop the next day. When I went to pick it up they only had one piece of equipment and that the other piece was torn apart but they could bring it in an hour. An hour later it wasnt there, I asked that the owner be called and now was told that it actually had been stolen. They replaced the saw but the whole experience was terrible.Save yourself the trouble and bring your stuff up the road to Johns equipment rental instead.
Dropped off a snowblower for diagnosis and repair, the associate asked no questions just handed me a form to fill out and went to go get ramps to unload it. No estimates were given about prices which could have been done after gathering the information that was never gathered. After having the blower for a week I finally get a call telling me it’s almost done and the repair costs $300. For that I may as well go buy a brand new blower for a little more! No call was made to tell me what was wrong and what it would cost to fix so we could plan accordingly. Overall very dissatisfied with the interactions with the employees and the lack of customer service and communication. Would not recommend.
I brought my zero turn lawn mower here a while back. Throughout my experience they were hard to get a hold of by phone. I showed up in person. There was someone there vacuuming that ignored me for a good 10 minutes. I finally found the mechanic who was nice but could tell me nothing about pricing. I had made several partially successful attempts to fix it myself but it had gotten beyond my limited ability to fix so when I finally got a hold of someone they picked it up to work on it. They called me a few days after said everything was done and gave me a price. It was a little higher than I expected but not too bad. When he described all they had done it seemed like they had taken some liberties in fixing other items we had not discussed. I was able to negotiate (pretty easily) a lower price which made me feel better about the liberties I felt like they had taken so I didnt think much of it.A year later, having forgotten the previous experience, I called to see about getting my snow blower some basic maintenance (oil change, new spark plug, etc). I remembered there was some fixed fee for this. The guy who answered the phone was not able to tell me prices but said it was on the website. There is (what appears to be) a fixed fee listed for this on their website of $69.95 for service for large snow blowers. I brought it in and asked for this service specifically mentioning an oil change and a new spark plug. A few days later I got a call from the sales guy saying the work was done and that the total was $275. I asked why it was so much more than the $69.95. He told me it needed a bunch of other work including putting new belts on. I asked if they normally do extra work without getting authorization from the customer. He paused and responded well, we are just here to help. Not sure what that meant in this situation. I asked what could be done about this. He said they could take the new belts off and put the old belts back on. Having no clue if it really needed the extra work and feeling generous and not wanting him to have to eat everything, I said what if we just leave it as it is and I give you $175. He said there is no way he could do that and explained how much everything costs. He said how about $172.80?. At this point I was confused as to why he would make a lower offer (maybe he misheard me) so I just accepted. I went to pick it up a couple days later. It was 4:50 pm (they close at 5). I walked in the door. There was no one at the desk so I pushed the button that said push for service and heard a ring but no one came. I waited for a bit and finally walked around the shop and into the back but didnt see anyone. So I found my snow blower, brought it out to my vehicle, found a couple boards for ramps laying around out front among all the sundry small engine parts scattered around and loaded up my snow blower. I felt like I should at least call and leave a message and explain what I had done. I called and to my surprise someone answered. I explained what had happened and what I had done. He said I was around back. I thought I heard the ring but I wasnt sure. He asked if I had paid (which I had over the phone) and if I was sure I got my snow blower. I told him I had paid and it was definitely mine and even had the tag they had attached with my name on it. Then we hung up and off I went.In summary, the customer service is pitiful and I am starting to think they purposefully do extra work, over charge and hope you will pay for it. If not they pretty quickly come down on the price and make you think you are getting a deal. Would not recommend this place.
The engine on my push mower had locked up. It wouldnt turn over, no matter how hard I pulled on the start cord. I took it to Southern Tier Small Engine Repair. I was told that the mower was toast: the engines connecting rod had jammed. The man waiting on me tried to sell me a new lawnmower. But I noticed something: with the lawnmower on its side, the salesman was able to move the blade backwards with his hands. I again wanted to try starting it before I made a decision. It started, and its been running fine ever since. Apparently the engines safety brake had locked up, and moving the blade backwards freed it.
I took my lawnmower there to get a general servicing done. They had it for over 2 weeks and did nothing to it. Its a 35 year old mower but Ive never had any issues with it. They told me they didnt work on it because it wasnt worth putting money into. No phone call to tell me anything. Didnt return calls. He said they couldnt even get it started. The only plus was they sharpened the blade and didnt charge me anything. I got the mower home, cleaned the carburetor, changed the oil, filled the gas tank, and it started on the 3rd pull. I definitely wont be back.
Honest. Fair prices. Does right by his customers. Paid to have a motor swapped out, did it same day, told me there was another part we should swap out to avoid future trouble (which I appreciated), took longer than expected for part to come in, was upfront, honest, took responsibility for it, and did not charge me for it. Good guy. Will definitely go back for all my small engine stuff.
Fixed up my blower quickly at a reasonable price.
Just waiting for parts to come in and should be good to go probably by the end of the week. TAT of about just over 2+ weeks.
I had two weed wacker that was there for over a month and was never looked at. One excuse after the other. When I complained about the service and what I felt what was being done and not being done the employee accused me of yelling at him and being disrespectful and he threatened to call the police on me if I didn’t leave. No professionalism to realize when someone is expressing he’s upset with the service and not yelling, but him taking it personally.
This place is great I got my mower and weed trimmer fixed. Very good service excellent work. Thanks
I took a 1980s Gilson snowblower that had not been used for several years to Southern Tier Small Engine repair. They had to do a decent amount of work on. The gas tank in particular need to be cleaned out, thoroughly. They replaced the carburetor, new brass bearings and drive system (dont quote me on that one) for the thrower blades. When all repairs were complete, they made sure that it worked properly. The cost was very reasonable for the amount of time and work out into my grandfathers snowblower. Professional and knowledgeable.
Scott is a honest businessman that cares about his customers and his reputation! Saved me today when the snowblower we got from him had a hiccup! Thanks Scott!
The a** who drives the black truck Shouldn’t cut people off and pull in front of them when he is driving a truck with the company name on it
