This place enables their clients and don’t really care because it doesn’t effect them (aka their paychecks). Patients are always sneaking drugs on the property and case managers turn a blind eye to it. This place is a joke.

System COMPLETELY fails you. Call in for suicidal thoughts and manic episodes only to be treated like a bother. I know now I will not recieve the help I need here. But sadly its my only option at this point. Staff is rude, talks back, in-empathetic, and really just wants to hear you talk but do nothing to correct it. I will never call during a crisis again!

Ive was told the being on the wait list for about 6 months to see a psychiatrist. Its been two years. I have a practitioner, but mental health team says I need an M.D.I called to be admitted in a fit; because I was going to drill a whole in my head to fix my brain myself, but part of me thought I should get a professional opinion. I was quite serious about it though. They told me I couldnt come because I was functioning and not a danger to myself, I ended up being rushed to a different inpatient unit.

My mother has become a danger to herself and others. This is the second time she’s placed her hands on some one with full intentions of harming them. This time her attempt was to strangle. Oaklawn has an emergency 1800 number. My uncles her POA/health proxy. He calls the number only to yet again get a run around. I’m sorry, you have an emergency-1800 number, here’s an emergency, my mother yet again needs help. We’re told to wait. She’s been admitted once only for just over a week. We can’t place her in anymore shelters, we can’t provide housing for her. She’s forgetting to take her meds, she’s forgetting how to get herself from point-a to point-b.I give them four stars because her treatment in goshen was unbelievable.we received great help and she had a wonderful support team. Now that she’s in Elkhart my mother isn’t really a priority. It seems like the system has just completely failed her. We’re told to wait for months! Her meds have also been compromised for their testing; and this caused her to experience mania and loose housing once before.Oaklawn’s the gate keeper for Elkhart counties community mental health. Which means they have the power to determine who’s turned away for help, and who receives it. The law (nationally) states that if someone becomes a danger to themselves or others they need to be stabilized.I have full belief that we won’t be hearing from Oaklawn in regards to my mother today. If she harms yet again, or is harmed due to being left on the streets; I have no choice but to hold them responsible.
