We moved to Elk Grove from the Bay Area (Palo Alto) last summer where both my daughters (8 and 11 year olds) were in a Spanish Immersion program so this was their first year in an all English school and inevitably were behind in reading and writing, as well as other subjects as a consequence of the pandemic. I am so happy to have found Huntington Learning last March! From the first interaction, the thorough assessment to see exactly where they were and their flexibility to accommodate my budget, I’m so glad I found them. Throughout our time there I have felt both Tony and Bonnie (owners who also relocated from Bay Area and understand the expectations) have really taken the time to understand my daughters’ needs, they have called their teachers to partner with them, and I have seen amazing progress. I highly recommend them!
I dont recommend this place for people who are middle income and/or cant afford private school. This may be a good place for maybe a high school student that needs help and is wanting to go onto college. The way this place works is they estimate how many hours your child needs tutoring and charges you in advance. I was advised for my son, who is 10 years old, hed need around 450 hours of tutoring, so itd be about $9,000. They offered me a loan that of course would have interest. Im sorry, I dont have that much money in savings and not looking to go broke over getting my son to grade level. Maybe if I see my son becoming a doctor or something but at this time I dont. I spoke to my son about spending $9,000 on his education and he said, Cant we buy a boat instead.. itd be a better investment. It would also motivate me to work harder. Smart kid. Were now saving up for a boat and hes working harder on his school work. I recommend for parents on a budget to contact your local college like ARC or Sac State. There are students looking to tutor and they only charge $10 to $20 an hour and dont require an advance payment. There is also a website care.com. This is where I found a tutor for my son.
Huntington learning curriculum is definitely helping my sons through this COVID-19 at home learning experience. It’s only been two months but a change is starting to happen, my sons feel comfortable, inspired in the environment, and learning more each day. Best decision of the year.
My 13 year old son started attending late December 2020 was struggling academically had cs & ds and maybe one B. He just made honor roll this month March 2021 and was about 3% away in one class from getting all As and making it on the principals list ! The staff there is awesome and friendly and great with my kids. My 4 year old also attends and loves going to see her teacher derrick, I have also seen a improvement in her & she super excited to get ready for kinder.
Huntington is helping my kids organize their writing skills, improve comprehension of reading materials and strengthen their math concepts. The teachers use a great teaching style, makes the student feel comfortable and makes learning fun. As a Special Education Educator, I can assure you that Huntington Learning Center is very competent in tutoring and teaching.
12/28/2020 UpdateI wanted to give an updated review since we are coming to a close on 2020. Since mySon began in Mid August, we have noticed that his confidence along with his grades has increased. He has been motivated to complete his school work and homework right after distant learning learning. With the help and encouragement of the staff and instructors, he has learned to slow down when taking tests or doing work. Because of this he has noticed an increase in his grades due to less careless mistakes. I can tell the staff truly care about children. They take time to really listen to the children. The communication between the staff, parents, and his 4th grade teacher is extremely helpful. Anyone who is reading this review and has a child who you feel is just not engaged, motivated, and has lost confidence due to struggling with distant learning, I would highly recommend calling Huntington Learning Center in Elk Grove.———————————. —————————————— —————————————————————————————————I scheduled an assessment for my son to get a baseline before he begins the new school year. I had to reschedule at the very last minute and The Elk Grove center was very understanding. We went in for the assessment the following week. Bonnie was very helpful at checking us in. Tony also greeted us and welcomed us in the center. My son was excited about taking the assessment. It seemed like he had a little pep in his step after the assessment. Thank you Bonnie for being so patient and motivational toward our son.I was impressed with the follow up and time that Tony took to explain and show what each part of the assessment was for and how our son did. I believe that we have found a program that will work best for my son!
They not only care about grades, but also about how the student is dealing with other social and motivational issues, and how happy is the student? They take the time to get to know their students on a personal level, and communicate with the parents about issues affecting the students learning and their ability to be successful in the future.
My son is in 3rd grade and is diagnosed with ADHD. Since Kindergarten we have struggled off and on with how to help him. Teachers always seemed to think “he wasn’t bad enough” to get extra help from the school and this went on for years. Finally we decided to take him to Huntington Tutoring Center. They gave him an evaluation and we were able to see clear as day what areas he needed help with. This learning center is very welcoming and has such a friendly staff. They are always doing contests and keeping things interesting. The other thing I love about this center is they are helping students that are behind and keeping them caught up. Other tutoring centers didn’t seem as personalized as Huntington. I think that is why we had struggled so much with my son because he needs more personalized work instead of keeping up with his peers. We love it here and have seen him grow so much!
Huntington Learning Center, Elk Grove has new owners, who have added their special touch. Tony and Bonnie are very caring, and make the students feel really special. The environment is very positive and upbeat, while at the same time communicating the seriousness and importance of learning. Monique, the Director and Bryanna, the Assistant Director are personally involved in each students program, which is tailored to their particular needs and styles of learning. Like the owners, they provide that personal touch, and are familiar with each students progress. My wife is one of their tutors, and has shared some success stories with me of children who couldnt read at all, or who were way behind at school and made a lot of progress in short periods of time. I think this is due to not only the Huntington method tutored by caring professionals, but also to the confidence that the staff inspires in each student.
I went into the center to seek help for my elementary school aged niece and nephew. And wow! how amazing are Monique and Tonya? Super responsive and helpful, even though my schedule is not the easiest to work with. The little ones started this past week, and they are loving it! Other students and parents also seemed quite engaged. Three thumbs up!
I am currently a student at Huntington Learning center, and I just wanna say that this place has really brought me to the best of my abilities. Before I came to Huntington I wasn’t good at math,But now after a few weeks I accelerated well and have gotten all A’s in all assignments.Same for English as well, English was never my cup of tea,I was never really good at it I would fail most assignments and I would honestly give up, but then I signed up for tutoring and u felt like a new everything about English, since it was never one of my favorite classes I still get a couple bad grades on assignments but I now have all A’s and a B in English which I have never gotten before during middle school. My overall review of this place is that it’s amazing and if your struggling they would do anything to help you be successful.
I am so grateful and appreciative to Bonnie and Mariel for being so caring, understanding, and attentive. Huntington Elk Grove nurtures a caring environment that is really focused on meeting the needs of students. My child was given a thorough assessment and his needs were discussed with me in a comprehensive manner. All of my concerns and questions were addressed, and I was able to collaborate with Bonnie in order to find the program that would best fit my child. Thank you for everything:-)**UPDATE 12/22/2020**Since starting with Huntington July 2020 my son continues to thrive. Withing the past five months his grades went from Bs and Cs to As and Bs, he has concrete time managment skills, and he has developed a healthy sense of self-discipline. I look forward to the PSAT and college counseling support offered to him as he continues with his junior year. I thank Bonnie, Mariel, Tony, and his tutor Nathan so much for the dedication to their students. We have truly gained a life-long resource.
Excellent work in teaching and motivating our two grandkids, who have been there for almost a year. Monique is awesome to work with. 😄🤗
Very professional, knowledgeable and well organized Educational Center. A Learning Center that I highly recommend to go and take your children to.Also if you need to take a test to be proctored, this is the place to go to!
Our overall experience with Huntington was outstanding. It was a great program with excellent teachers who really worked with our child on his learning deficiencies. He progressed through the program as they had projected and finished in line to graduate his senior year of high school.
A complete waste of time and money.
